Michigan State used some late-game heroics from a handful of players to come from behind and pick up a big-time road victory over No. 18 Wisconsin, 69-65.

The Spartans used a 15-to-6 run across the final four minutes of the game to erase a five-point deficit and earn the win over the Badgers. Michigan State was led offensively by Joey Hauser’s 20 points, with the starting back court combining for 35 points as well. A.J. Hoggard especially was huge for the Spartans down the stretch, hitting a few big-time buckets and icing the game away at the free throw line.

With the win, Michigan State is now 12-4 on the season and 4-1 in conference play. They are tied with Purdue for first place in the Big Ten.

Wisconsin leading scorer F Tyler Wahl questionable to play against MSU on Tuesday

Wisconsin could be without their leading scorer in Tuesday’s matchup against Michigan State

Wisconsin could be without their leading scorer in Tuesday’s matchup against Michigan State in Madison, Wisc.

Badgers head coach Greg Gard said on Monday that Wahl missed practice yesterday, and wasn’t sure if he’d practice today or play in Tuesday’s game against the Spartans.

Wahl suffered an apparent ankle injury against Minnesota last week, which kept him from returning against the Golden Gophers and missing Saturday’s loss at Illinois. Wahl was a preseason All-Big Ten selection, and averages 13.2 points and 6.4 rebounds per game this year.

As Graham Couch of the Lansing State Journal pointed out in the tweet above, Wahl is a crucial piece for the Badgers to be successful — similar to Malik Hall for the Spartans. If he doesn’t play on Tuesday night, Michigan State’s chances of beating the Badgers on the road increases quite significantly.

Tipoff from the Kohl Center between the Spartans and Badgers is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. The game can be seen on ESPN.

The Spartans rally in the second half to knock off Wisconsin and snap a four-game losing streak on Saturday, 34-28. The win over the Badgers came on a double-overtime touchdown connection from Payton Thorne to Jayden Reed.

With the win, Michigan State is now 3-4 on the season and 1-3 in conference play. The Spartans will be on a bye next week and will next take the field at rival Michigan on Oct. 29.

The Spartans did their weekly uniform unveiling on Thursday, and this week’s included a new helmet. Michigan State will wear a green helmet with script State written in white on the side.

Last year, Michigan State wore a similar script State helmet for the first time but it was on a white helmet with green text. So this year’s version is a slightly different take on what was worn last year.
