Chiefs OL Trey Smith is NFL’s second-best run blocker since Week 7, per PFF

Pro Football Focus has #Chiefs lineman Trey Smith graded out as the NFL’s second-best run blocking guard since Week 7.

Veteran guard Trey Smith has been a fan favorite on the Kansas City Chiefs offensive line since joining the team as a sixth-round draft pick back in 2021. His savvy in pass protection has helped Patrick Mahomes stay on his feet this season, and without his efforts in the run game, the Chiefs wouldn’t be able to get Isiah Pacheco or Clyde Edwards-Helaire gaps to hit in the running game.

With just a handful of games remaining on Kansas City’s 2023 schedule, it seems that Smith’s contributions will be particularly crucial to the Chiefs’ chances of making a deep playoff run.

According to Pro Football Focus, the third-year guard has been the NFL’s second-best run-blocking grade of any guard in the NFL since Week 7.

If Smith can keep up his exceptional work up front, Andy Reid may be able to lean on Pacheco and Edwards-Helaire more in the regular season’s final contests to help Kansas City earn the AFC’s No. 1 playoff seed.

WATCH: Chiefs TE Travis Kelce mic’d up for Week 7 tilt vs. Chargers

Travis Kelce was mic’d up for the #Chiefs’ Week 7 win over the #Chargers.

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce played with an extra edge against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 7, hauling in 12 passes for 179 yards in a touchdown. His efforts helped lift Kansas City to its sixth win of the 2023 season and dazzled 12-time Grammy winner Taylor Swift, who was in attendance for Kelce’s stellar performance at Arrowhead Stadium.

The All-Pro pass catcher was mic’d up for the rivalry tilt, and a video of his antics during the Week 7 matchup was posted to Twitter by the Chiefs on Wednesday.

Kelce’s enthusiasm for the game of football is absolutely infectious in the clip, and his trademark charisma was on full display as he put on a show for Chiefs Kingdom against the Chargers.

While his relationship with the aforementioned Swift has been the object of endless speculation on social media, this mic’d up recording is a good reminder that for all the press he has received in recent weeks, Kelce is still a football player at heart.

The worst offensive players in Tampa Bay’s loss to Atlanta, per PFF

PFF deemed these players the worst in a stuttering offense for Week 7’s matchup against the Falcons:

There wasn’t a lot to love about the Tampa Bay Buccaneers offense in Week 7.

The team lost 16-13 to the Atlanta Falcons in a crucial divisional game, and offensive ineptitude is a big reason why. The team has been generally unable to score in the red zone and has had problems in the running game, causing a huge stall in offensive productivity after the team’s win over the New Orleans Saints in Week 5. There were some key players on offense, but in the eyes of Pro Football Focus, far more played poorly.

Here are the five lowest-graded offensive players in Week 7’s loss against Atlanta, per PFF:

The worst defensive players in Tampa Bay’s loss to Atlanta, per PFF

These five players got the worst marks in PFF’s evaluation of the Bucs defense for Week 7:

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers held the Atlanta Falcons to just 16 points in Week 7, but looks can be deceiving.

The defense struggled against both the passing game and the run game against the Falcons, and it gave up a huge splash play to tight end Kyle Pitts that would set up the game-winning field goal from kicker Younghoe Koo. And while there were some big contributors to the game that managed to help keep Atlanta out of the red zone, others gave up big yards and allowed the Falcons to feast in the run game. Pro Football Focus graded every Bucs defensive player and made su

Broncos QB Russell Wilson optimistic after first home win

“That was huge for us, man,” Broncos QB Russell Wilson said after the team’s 19-17 win over the Packers on Sunday.

After the Denver Broncos held on to defeat the Green Bay Packers 19-17 on Sunday afternoon, quarterback Russell Wilson gushed with praise for his teammates and the fans at Empower Field at Mile High.

“That was huge for us, man,” Wilson said after the game. “I thought it was a great team effort across the board. I thought the offensive line played [an] amazing, amazing game today — giving me enough time to make all the throws. They were so solid up front. They were great in the run game. I thought our [running] backs did great.

“I thought our defense was unbelievable. They came up with some huge, huge stops. They’ve been getting better and better every week and that’s what you want. You want to keep rising — keep believing. Just to win in front of our fans, Broncos Country, to be able to get it done was really special. The fans were great. We feed off of their energy and it really does make a difference when the games on the line.”

Wilson has always been relentlessly positive, and Sunday was no exception. After securing the team’s first home win of the season and second win overall, Wilson and his teammates will now aim to upset the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 8.

WATCH: Re-live Charles Omenihu’s stellar Chiefs debut

Check out this highlight reel of Charles Omenihu’s #Chiefs debut from Week 7 against the #Chargers.

The Kansas City Chiefs defensive line got a huge boost from free agent addition Charles Omenihu in Week 7 against the Los Angeles Chargers. In his first regular-season game with the Chiefs, Omenihu tallied his first sack of the year and played a major part in Kansas City’s sixth victory.

The Chiefs posted a highlight reel from Omenihu’s debut in Kansas City, providing fans a great chance to re-live the lineman’s stellar performance against the Chargers.

With more games like the one he put together against Los Angeles, Omenihu is sure to ingratiate himself to Chiefs Kingdom as part of Kansas City’s fierce pass rush.

While his six-game suspension early in his career with the team was a disappointing start to his tenure with the Chiefs, Omenihu’s fast start to his season went a long way toward justifying Brett Veach’s decision to sign him back in March.

Keep your eye on the promising lineman in Kansas City’s Week 8 matchup against the Denver Broncos to see if he can continue wreaking havoc in the backfield.

Antoine Winfield Jr.’s words to Bucs: ‘How good do we want to be?’

Antoine Winfield Jr. gave his team a stern message in the locker room after its loss to the Atlanta Falcons in Week 7.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers dropped one of its most important games of the season on Sunday, relinquishing the NFC South to the Atlanta Falcons after a rough 16-13 loss. The sense of urgency wasn’t lost on the team — in fact, it came face to face with it right after the game in the locker room.

Bucs safety [autotag]Antoine Winfield Jr.[/autotag], who has played at an All-Pro level in 2023 and has been a leader on Tampa Bay’s defense, wouldn’t let the result of the game linger. Instead, he gave a speech to the team, and it came with a burning question for everyone in the organization: “How good do we want to be?”

“It’s up to us, it’s up to the guys in this locker room, and it’s really cool coming from (Antoine),” Bucs left tackle Tristan Wirfs said. “We all know what an incredible player he is. You know, that play he made on the goal line, that’s insane. Coming from him, everyone listens, all eyes are on him. It was really cool.”

Winfield Jr. himself says that he isn’t a man of many words, but when he speaks, he “really means it.” Winfield Jr. not only told his team that its story is its own and that it’s up to everyone to take the destiny that is out in front of them, but also spoke about the football issues plaguing the team.

“Yeah, just that we’ve got to close those games out. We’ve got to play better, and we’ve got to win those close games like that, to summarize it,” Winfield Jr. said. “We’ve just got to find a way to win.”

Finding a way to win has been tough for this team. Tampa Bay’s offense has stalled entirely, and a once-mighty defense is currently giving up the most third downs of any team in the NFL — it’s a big reason why the team couldn’t get off the field on the final drive of the game. Whether or not the Bucs have the talent and wherewithal to turn things around remains to be seen, but the team definitely has the motivation after Winfield’s big speech.

Everybody took it well,” Winfield Jr. said. “We’re all trying to win here. We’re all professionals. I just felt like it needed to be said and so I just said what I said.”

Wirfs echoed his statement, and so did another Bucs captain — quarterback Baker Mayfield.

“He is a key leader,” Mayfield said. “Obviously, [he made] a ton of big plays in that game and has been consistent here for a while. Those guys we have to lean on and follow that leadership and everybody else has to fall in line.”

The top defensive players in Tampa Bay’s loss to Atlanta, per PFF

There were a few notable contributors in on defense in the Bucs’ loss to Atlanta in Week 7.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers defense has been staunch in giving up points all year, and that trend continued in Week 7 against the Atlanta Falcons.

The Bucs only gave up 16 points in the NFC South battle, but unfortunately, the offense wasn’t able to capitalize and only put up 13. There were some notable splash players on the day, the foremost being safety Antoine Winfield Jr., who is currently playing at an All-Pro level for the Buccaneers. Pro Football Focus recognized this by placing him as the team’s highest-ranked defender, but who else did they like on the Bucs defense?

Here are the top 10 Bucs defensive players from Week 7, per PFF:

The top offensive players in Tampa Bay’s loss to Atlanta, per PFF

There wasn’t a lot of offense against the Falcons in Week 8, but nonetheless, Pro Football Focus had these players as their top performers:

There wasn’t exactly a wealth of offensive production when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers played the Atlanta Falcons in Week 7.

The Bucs scored just 13 points on the day, putting in a poor offensive performance for the second week in a row. Tampa Bay’s offense particularly struggled in the red zone, failing to punch it in twice when in scoring range. There wasn’t a lot to like when it came to the offense, and Pro Football Focus’ grades for the team certainly reflected that. Despite that, there were some players who put in a strong performance in the eyes of the graders.

Here are the top 10 offensive players from the Bucs’ Week 8 divisional matchup, according to PFF:
