Jason Peters named one of the NFL’s best performers in the 4th-quarter and overtime in 2019

Free-agent left tackle Jason Peters named to Pro Football Focus’s All-Clutch Team

Jason Peters is currently unemployed and not a member of the Philadelphia Eagles but that doesn’t mean his presence isn’t still looming large.

A free agent currently, Peters will likely land on an NFL roster thanks to stats like this one from Pro Football Focus.

According to grades and data collected by PFF, Peters was named one of the NFL’s best performers in the 4th quarter and overtime, landing on the 2019 All-Clutch team.

LT JASON PETERS, PHILADELPHIA EAGLES
Second Team: Taylor Decker, Detroit Lions
Peters may remain a free agent, but this man can still play at 38 years old. His overall grade of 83.4 in 2019 ranked second among all left tackles, and no player graded out better in the clutch than Peters did. It was a balanced effort with grades of 77.0 or higher as both a pass-protector and run-blocker. Peters allowed just five pressures in 114 pass-blocking snaps across these plays. His continued availability as a free agent presents an ideal opportunity for a team that needs stability up front, particularly if the current plan is rushing along a young tackle who may not be ready to step in and start right away.

Right guard Brandon Brooks landed at second-team on the list behind Dallas Cowboys right guard Zach Martin.

Peters has been in constant contact with the Eagles, but the organization appears prepared to move forward with second-year left tackle, Andre Dillard.

Fletcher Cox leading Eagles defensive linemen through workouts at his home

Eagles’ defensive line working out together at Fletcher Cox’s house

With Malcolm Jenkins returning to New Orleans via free agency, there was an assumption that the Eagles would face a leadership void.

That simply hasn’t been the case with several Eagles players increase their leadership and none more important than Fletcher Cox. The Eagles All-Pro has gathered some of his defensive linemates to his Houston area home for some pre-training camp work.

Eagles edge-rusher Brandon Graham was on Instagram Live on Tuesday night with Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson when it was revealed that the defensive line took a trip to Cox’s house for the week.

Transcripts via NBC Sports Philadelphia:

GRAHAM: We out here with Fletch … The D-Line came out.

We got out here, we’re gonna be with Wash, we’re gonna be with Wash working out. Most of the D-Line came out. Hargreaves couldn’t come.

JACKSON: I’d seen you with Slay, how was that?

GRAHAM: Oh, that was cool. You know, we’d been working out since last year, when we found out they was trying to trade for him. So we always just stayed together after that.

[…]

We start working out tomorrow.

Javon Hargrave is the most important defensive tackle not making the trip but it’s a good sign for a team that should have an advantage in preparation thanks to no changeover in the coaching staff.

Graham had previously worked out with Darius Slay while in Michigan and it appears that this Eagles team will be tight-knit and prepared for work in a few weeks.

Eagles could hold mid-June minicamp as NFL coaches begin return to team facilities

Eagles and other NFL teams could possibly hold June minicamps

[jwplayer mtYv3XFQ]

As cities and states along the Northeast start to reopen for business, Yahoo Sports NFL Insider Charles Robinson is reporting that NFL head coaches could start to return to team facilities as early as next week.

Robinson is also reporting that as the proper steps continue to get taken during the Covid-19 pandemic, teams in certain cities could start to gather for mid-June minicamps.

The sources told Yahoo Sports that if coaches resume their in-house work next week, minicamps including players could be scheduled as early as June 15 or as late as June 27, depending on COVID-19 data and whether a handful of franchises get a “go ahead” signal from state governments to resume full operations. Resuming full operations and getting a minicamp scheduled would represent the league’s biggest step to date toward keeping the 2020 NFL season on track for a regularly scheduled fall kickoff.

Robinson is also reporting that California could play a large role in whether teams actually start to gather for minicamps before again returning home to their families until the start of late July or early August training camps.

“If California is open for [team] operations soon, minicamps can still happen in June — probably late June, I’d think — but maybe even mid-June,” the league source said.

Philadelphia and surrounding eastern Pennsylvania counties are scheduled to enter the yellow phase on June 5.

Jalen Mills embracing switch to the safety position in Eagles new hybrid-secondary

Philadelphia Eagles defensive back Jalen Mills excited for responsibilities that come with the move to safety

In an effort to finally eliminate the countless deep balls and crippling big plays, the Philadelphia Eagles reconstructed their secondary.

Ronald Darby and Malcolm Jenkins have moved on, while K’Von Wallace, Will Parks, Nickel Robey-Coleman, and Darius Slay have joined the team.

The Eagles are utilizing a more hybrid, positionless secondary and former safety and Jalen Mills is spearheading the change.

While chatting with The Eagles Insider, Dave Spadaro, Mills admitted that he was “excited” for the position switch, while embracing his newfound “responsibilities.”

“I’ll do whatever for the win,” Mills said. “I embrace the responsibilities.”

“It’s a new position. It’s a new field and it’s going to be new energy,” Mills said.

With Parks and Wallace in the fold now, Mills could see more time playing in the slot, or with his new positionless approach, you could see one of the other safeties in the box, while the former cornerback flashes his versatility and chases a tight end or bigger slot receiver around.

The possibilities are endless and Mills sounds prepared for the ride.

Rich Scangarello set to play an integral part in Carson Wentz reaching the next level as a QB

Carson Wentz ‘excited’ about working with new assistant Rich Scangarello

The Philadelphia Eagles enter the 2020 NFL season with a renewed confidence from quarterback Carson Wentz and a bevy of new weapons that should eliminate any talk about No. 11 not being elite.

One of the main reasons for Wentz and other Eagles’ excitement has centered around the addition of quarterback guru and offensive consultant, Rich Scangarello.

Wentz for his part is extremely excited about the move via transcripts from PennLive.

“I’m excited to see his insight and what he can bring to this offense, how we can become more explosive and more dynamic,” Wentz said on a Zoom call. “But what little I have talked to him, I can tell he’s a smart guy and he knows what he’s talking about.”

Scangarello, 48, spent two years as the quarterback’s coach under Kyle Shanahan with the San Francisco 49ers, and he was previously an offensive quality control coach for the Atlanta Falcons when Shanahan was the offensive coordinator.

Scangarello excels in the run game with pre-snap motion and misdirection that Shanahan’s 49ers team performs so well.

Scangarell played a key role in the maturation of rookie Drew Lock, who now looks like the Broncos signal-caller of the future.

Expect Scangarello to tinker with Wentz as a quarterback and add in some of his offensive intricacies with Doug Pederson continuing to call the offense in an aggressive manner.

Eagles RB Miles Sanders working hard in preparation for an “MVP” year

Miles Sanders wants to be NFL MVP in 2020

Miles Sanders has never lacked confidence and that can probably explain his choice to attend Penn State despite the presence of one Saquon Barkley.

After a rookie season that saw Sanders improves leaps and bounds on a weekly basis, he’s looking to take it up another notch.

While working out on Wednesday, Sanders looked stronger, more explosive and he definitely wasn’t lacking for confidence as he talked about landing the NFL MVP award this season.

https://twitter.com/thomasrp93/status/1263200476612485121

Sanders led the Eagles in rushing as a rookie, racking up 818 rushing yards with three TDs on 179 total carries. Sanders did his best work down the stretch in the passing game.

The Eagles rookie had 50 receptions for 509 yards and another three scores while leading the Birds in explosive plays.

After making the MVP statement, Sanders took to social media to explain his feelings and make it clear he won’t apologize.

Sanders made it clear that he’s looking for an increased workload this season and he’s working to carry the team.

Watch: Eagles DE Brandon Graham works out with new teammate Darius Slay

Darius Slay and Brandon Graham working out together

The Philadelphia Eagles have been reduced to a virtual offseason program due to the Covid-19 pandemic but that doesn’t mean the work isn’t being put in.

Doug Pederson spoke on Tuesday about all his guys making the virtual offseason sessions and recently, Brandon Graham and new Eagles cornerback Darius Slay, were spotted getting some work in together.

According to John Clark of NBC Sports Philadelphia, this isn’t the first time Slay and Graham have worked out together and the Eagles defensive end has previously recruited the former Lions star to Philadelphia during those workouts.

Slay will be called upon to firmly establish a shutdown cornerback for the Eagles and will give Jim Schwartz some options with his new versatile defense.

5 Philadelphia Eagles who are underrated entering the 2020 NFL Season

5 Philadelphia Eagles who are underrated entering the 2020 NFL Season

The Philadelphia Eagles enter the 2020 NFL season with a solid team that has postseason potential and room for more if some big-name stars are able to remain healthy.

The Eagles are stacked at several positions but there are several key players that enter this upcoming season criminally underrated.

Here’s five Philadelphia Eagles that are underrated entering the 2020 NFL season.

***

Dallas Goedert

TE Dallas Goedert

Ertz is the big dawg in terms of name recognition and status, but it’s Goedert who helps make the engine go via pass-catching and run blocking. Goedert is a top-ten tight end and we’ll have every right to demand significant compensation when his turn arises. At times last season, Goedert had earned an 81.4 PFF grade that ranked seventh at the position despite not being a deep threat. On targets of less than 10 yards downfield, Goedert was PFF’s third-highest-graded tight end, and he was second in yards after the catch per reception at 8.6. Combine that with his run blocking prowess and Howie Roseman has a decision to make.

Philadelphia Eagles gave undrafted TE Noah Togiai big guaranteed money to sign

Philadelphia Eagles gave undrafted TE Noah Togiai big guaranteed money to sign

The Philadelphia Eagles love tight ends just as much as they enjoy developing quarterbacks and Howie Roseman may have found his franchise a third tight end.

After the conclusion of the NFL Draft and the start of the undrafted free agent period, the Bird’s first signee was Noah Togiai, a tight end out of Oregon State.

The Eagles coveted the athletic Togiai so much, that they gave him one of the biggest guaranteed deals for non-draftees.

The 6-foot-4, 246-pound Togiai started in 37 of 44 games played while at Oregon State, and accumulated 1,000 yards receiving in his career.

A developmental tight end, Togiai is a former basketball player who as a senior in Corvallis, talled 44 catches for 406 yards and three touchdowns for the Beavers.

Eagles may have found perfect complement to Miles Sanders in UDFA RB Adrian Killins

Eagles undrafted free agent back Adrian Killins could be the perfect running mate for Miles Sanders

The Philadelphia Eagles ignored addressing the running back position during free agency and the entirety of the NFL draft, but Howie Roseman may have had a method to his madness.

After bypassing running backs, Roseman signed two undrafted free agents at the position. One player, Michael Warren, is a thumper who’ll definitely have an opportunity to put his stamp on the roster.

The guy that could turn his post-draft signing into a bonafide roster spot is Adrian Killins.

The 5-foot-7, 162-pound running back is fast and productive while specializing in finding the endzone. He’ll go down in UCF history after finishing his career with 2,459 rushing yards and 25 rushing touchdowns career. His 6.1 yards per carry average ranks third in school history.

Killins wasn’t invited to the NFL Combine, but if he had, he would have clocked one of the fastest times.

In 2019 with UCF, Killins rushed 87 times for 629 yards and seven touchdowns, while adding eight catches for 120 yards and another score.

Killins and Warren should both make the Eagles 53-man roster while ensuring that Miles Sanders doesn’t get ran into the ground next season.
