2001
Leonard Davis: 2nd overall to the Arizona Cardinals
Leonard Davis was a mountain of a man and a powerful offensive guard that found himself drafted second overall in the 2001 NFL Draft just behind Michael Vick. Davis was the first of two guards taken in the first round with Seattle’s Steve Hutchinson. Davis played for the Cardinals until 2006. He came home to Texas to suit up for the Dallas Cowboys where he enjoyed the most success of his career.
Davis remained in Dallas until 2010. From 2007 to 2009 he was selected to the Pro Bowl each season while also being named second team All-Pro for his efforts in 2007. After a brief one-year stint in Detroit and another in San Francisco, Davis retired from football after a 12-year career where he started 155 games and played in 171 total.
Casey Hampton: 19th overall to the Pittsburgh Steelers
Hampton finished his collegiate career in Austin earning Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year honors in 2000. The Steelers drafted him with their first pick to make him a mainstay on their defensive front for a decade plus. Hampton won two Super Bowls while with the Steelers, never played for another team.
Hampton was named a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers All-Time team, given their illustrious history that is quite a compliment. He finished his career as a five-time Pro Bowl selection in 13 seasons. Hampton finished with 374 tackles, nine sacks and four forced fumbles.
