Seahawks near bottom of Football Outsiders’ watchability ‘fun index’

After an offseason that saw many changes, the Seattle Seahawks now rank near the bottom of Football Outsider’s watchability “fun index.”

The Seattle Seahawks have undergone major changes this offseason, dealing their franchise quarterback to the Denver Broncos and releasing longtime defensive superstar Bobby Wagner, who promptly signed with the division-rival Los Angeles Rams.

Seattle did have a successful NFL draft, but the rookie additions may not have an immediate impact this season.

All that being said, will the Seahawks be enjoyable for fans to watch this year?

Not according to Football Outsiders, who recently ranked all 32 clubs based on their “fun index.” The Seahawks scored a mere 3.5, landing them at No. 26 overall in the league.

“Watching the Seahawks will be like going out for beers to cheer up a recently separated pal,” writes Mike Tanier. “‘Uh-uh, he started drinking before I got here. Oh no, he’s straight-up asking a barmaid his daughter’s age out. Maybe we should go get some coffee, buddy? Please stop sobbing.”

“Drew Lock, in this metaphor, is the Tinder date who is just using the Seahawks for a free dinner.”

Well, none of this sounds particularly exciting, but this is only one man’s opinion.

Single-game tickets are now on sale, so you can find out the Seahawks’ fun factor for yourself.

Chiefs’ all-time record against each opponent in 2022

The #Chiefs have a winning all-time record against their opponents in 2022. Find individual W-L records for each opponent here:

The Kansas City Chiefs have a winning all-time record against the opponents they’ll face during the 2022 NFL regular season.

During the illustrious history of the franchise, the Chiefs have won 359 games, lost 306 and tied five against their opponents next season. They have winning records against each of the three teams in their division and the one team that used to be in their division prior to the 2002 realignment.

How do the wins and losses break down for each individual opponent in 2022, though? Take a look down below to find Kansas City’s all-time record against each:

Chiefs-Ravens matchup features two winningest NFL teams

These two teams have the longest active win streaks and the best records dating back to Week 11 of 2018.

The Kansas City Chiefs and Baltimore Ravens have both accumulated a lot of wins over the past three NFL seasons and now they’re getting set to meet on “Monday Night Football.”

In fact, these two teams are the winningest teams in the NFL since Week 11 of 2018 according to Chiefs Reporter Matt McMullen. That’s back when Lamar Jackson first became the starter for the Ravens. If you include both regular season and postseason wins, Baltimore has a 22-5 record during that span, while Kansas City has a 21-8 record. The Chiefs played the Ravens twice in that span and won both times.

Of course, Patrick Mahomes won the league MVP award in 2018 and Jackson won the league MVP award in 2019. Combine that with the Chiefs’ Super Bowl LIV win and it’s not that big of a shock to find that these two teams have won so many games since 2018. The next closest would be the New England Patriots, who have 20 wins.

Currently, the Ravens and Chiefs also have the two longest active regular-season win streaks in the NFL. Two teams with such win streaks haven’t met in the NFL since 1969 when the Los Angeles Rams hosted the Minnesota Vikings according to ESPN’s Field Yates.

If you go back to the Chiefs’ recent postseason victories they’ve won 11 consecutive games, which marks the longest active streak of consecutive wins in the NFL.

At least one win streak comes to an end on “Monday Night Football” and there’s always a chance that both do if they to finish in a tie game. It might be a bit anticlimactic, but it’d also be a little poetic.

Top 5 Fantasy Baseball sleeper pitchers

Previewing the fantasy baseball landscape and highlighting the top 5 sleeper pitchers for the 2020 MLB season.

[jwplayer eksOOQvZ]

Fantasy baseball managers will need to act quickly in the shortened 2020 MLB season. The 60-game campaign will mean smaller sample sizes of both successes and struggles will carry more weight, and fantasy owners will need to be ready to pounce on the waiver wire and cut ties sooner than usual. Below, we’ll help you get a head start on the 2020 fantasy baseball season with a look at the top-five sleeper pitchers to target in drafts.

Fantasy baseball: Top 5 sleeper pitchers

Kenta Maeda, SP, Minnesota Twins

Average Draft Position (ADP): 171

Acquired from the Los Angeles Dodgers this offseason, Maeda joins Jose Berrios and Jake Odorizzi at the front of the Twins’ rotation. Maeda went 10-8 over 37 games (26 starts) and 153 2/3 innings last year while pitching to a 4.04 ERA and 1.07 WHIP with 169 strikeouts against just 51 walks.

Maeda will benefit greatly from the change of scenery. He’ll no longer need to pitch in the hitter-friendly confines of Coors Field and Chase Field, and will instead get to feast on the expected cellar-dwelling Kansas City Royals and Detroit Tigers.

Steven Matz, SP, New York Mets

ADP: 277

Matz went 11-10 in 32 games (30 starts) while throwing a career-high 160 1/3 innings in 2019. He posted a lackluster 4.21 ERA and 1.34 WHIP, but both those figures improved greatly in the second half of the season, as did his K-BB percentage. The Mets lineup should be much stronger this season and can help provide more win opportunities with improved run support.

Andrew Heaney, SP, Los Angeles Angels

ADP: 198

Heaney was limited to 18 starts and 95 1/3 innings in 2019. He averaged more than 11 strikeouts per nine innings for the second time in his career and walked fewer than three batters per nine for the second straight year. The 29-year-old has been named the Angels’ Opening Day starter and will front a new-look rotation.

Kyle Hendricks, SP, Chicago Cubs

ADP: 144

Hendricks hasn’t been able to replicate his breakout 2016 campaign in which he pitched to a 2.13 ERA, while going 16-8, but a regression to a 3.44 ERA in 2018 and a 3.46 ERA in 2019 are being viewed too unfavorably. He won’t steal matchups with strikeout totals, but his reliability and consistency will pay off nicely in an otherwise unpredictable season.

Ken Giles, RP, Toronto Blue Jays

ADP: 128

Giles recorded just 23 saves over 53 games last season, but pitched to a sparkling 1.87 ERA with a career-best 14.09 strikeouts per nine innings. He may still struggle to get save opportunities while backing the middling Blue Jays, but should get into games more regularly with teams expected to limit the usage of their top starters in 2020.

Nate Davis of USA TODAY predicts Seahawks finish 2020 with 9-7 record

Nate Davis of USA TODAY Sports predicts the Seattle Seahawks will finish the 2020 NFL regular season with a 9-7 record.

Seattle Seahawks fans have long taken issue with USA TODAY Sports’ Nate Davis and his power rankings and predictions and now it looks like the 12s will have yet another reason to express their displeasure.

In his most reason piece, Davis has the Seahawks finishing the 2020 NFL regular season with a paltry9-7 record.

“Their 11-5 showing in 2019 was rather fluky given they outscored the opposition by a collective 7 points,” Davis writes. “Seattle must now overcome the apparent loss of DE Jadeveon Clowney, hope its top two running backs (Chris Carson, Rashaad Penny) recover from serious injuries and pray QB Russell Wilson once again masks a subpar offensive line. Four 1 p.m. kickoffs on the East Coast won’t help, nor does a travel itinerary that includes a league-high 29,000+ miles.”

Of note, Davis has the Seahawks’ biggest rival – the 49ers – easily winning the NFC West with an impressive 12-4 finish to put Seattle at No. 2 in the division at the end of the season.

Texas Basketball: The Longhorns will meet Texas Tech on Thursday

The brackets are set for the Big 12 Tournament that begins on Wednesday. Texas Tech and Texas will meet on Thursday.

With the college basketball regular season officially in the rearview mirror, the Big 12 conference turns its attention to the tournament. In the first round of the tournament, Oklahoma State will meet Iowa State. The winner of the that matchup will face Kansas. Texas Christian will face Kansas State, the winner will take on Baylor in the quarterfinals.

Following the loss to Oklahoma State, Texas fell from third to the fourth seed in the standings. In the matchup of the four-five seeds in the quarterfinals, the Longhorns drew the assignment of Texas Tech. The two teams split their season series with each team winning on the road.

With the Texas Longhorns losing to the OSU Cowboys, the Longhorns need a strong showing in the conference tournament to get into the NCAA Tournament. They currently sit with a 53 percent chance to get in according to ESPN Bracketology. Shaka Smart will need at least one victory over Chris Beard and the Red Raiders to help his case. Not just to get into the tourney but also for the sake of his job.

Texas picks up fourth consecutive victory, outlast Texas Tech

To make the NCAA Tournament this season, UT needed to go 3-1 in their final four games. They picked up another huge win against Texas Tech.

In order to make the NCAA Tournament this season, Texas needed to go 3-1 in their final four games against West Virginia, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, and Oklahoma State. After defeating the Mountaineers on Monday, the Longhorns picked up another huge win on the road against the Red Raiders.

It was once again a big game for Texas guards, this time being led by Andrew Jones. After getting a career-high 22 points against West Virginia, he matched that total in Lubbock on Saturday. Jones shot 8-14 from the field, leading the team at 57%. He also led the team in the three-pointers, making three.

Michael C. Johnson-USA TODAY Sports

As for Courtney Ramey and Matt Coleman, they had 12 and six points respectively. A combined 6-17 inside the arc, their play was enough to get past Texas Tech. The two each snagged three rebounds, while Ramey provided one assist.

Hitting free throws has been a struggle for the Longhorns all season, shooting under 70% on the season. On Saturday, Texas only missed four free throws, going 10-14. Still ranking dead last in the country in free throws attempted, if Shaka Smart’s team can get to the line more, they will continue to have free offense.

Up next for Texas is a huge game in Norman against Oklahoma. With both teams on the bubble, it is a must-win for both squads. Losing in Austin to the Sooners earlier in the season, the Longhorns will be looking to secure their spot in the 2020 NCAA Tournament.

Pete Carroll earns 100th win as Seattle Seahawks head coach

Pete Carroll won his 100th game as the head coach of the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday against the Carolina Panthers.

The Seattle Seahawks will finish the 2019 season with a 7-1 record on the road, a franchise record, along with a 5-0 record in 10:00 a.m. starts after defeating the Carolina Panthers, 30-24, in Week 15.

The win signified another milestone for this Seahawks team – the 100th victory under the leadership of coach Pete Carroll.

Carroll now sports a 100-57-1 record as the head coach of the Seahawks and a 133-88-1 overall record, which includes his stints with the Jets and Patriots.

Carroll has been without a doubt the most successful coach in franchise history, having long passed Mike Holmgren (86 wins) and Chuck Knox (80) for the most wins of all-time.

Carroll was also at the helm for two of Seattle’s three Super Bowl appearances, and of course the team’s only victory back in 2014.

The Seahawks signed Carroll to an extension that runs through the 2021 season, giving the oldest coach in the NFL plenty of time to add to his win total in the Emerald City.

For now, he’ll turn his attention to the team’s final two regular season games, both at home against the Cardinals and the 49ers, as the team looks to secure a top-two seed in the NFC and a potential first round bye in the playoffs.

Seahawks can remain unbeaten on the road with win in Philadelphia

The Seattle Seahawks are undefeated on the road at 5-0 this season and can extend that record against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday.

[jwplayer CyWAa1YN-ThvAeFxT]

The Seattle Seahawks are known throughout the NFL for their daunting home-field advantage at CenturyLink Field. However, they have been less stellar as a road team in the Pete Carroll era. That has changed substantially this season, as the Seahawks are undefeated on the road with a 5-0 record in 2019. This is already one win away from the record for most road victories in franchise history, behind the 2013 season in which they finished 6-2 away from the friendly confines of CenturyLink Field.

Conversely, Seattle suffered their two losses at home against the Saints and  Ravens. Most of the Seahawks’ wins have been close shaves, but they keep finding ways to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. This is particularly evident on the road, as four of their five victories away from Seattle have been by one possession. At the end of the day, what matters is the fact that the Seahawks keep winning, not the method by which they achieve the victories.

The Seahawks (8-2) have a chance to keep their 2019 road record perfect when they face the Eagles (5-5) in Week 12. Seattle has performed well in the City of Brotherly Love, compiling a 4-0 record there over the past 14 years. This could work to the Seahawks’ advantage, especially considering the Eagles are coming off a devastating loss to the Patriots. The game against Philadelphia will take place on Sunday at Lincoln Financial Field at 10:00 a.m. PT.
