Twitter reacts to Tony Romo calling Taylor Swift Travis Kelce’s wife

Twitter went crazy after Tony Romo referred to Taylor Swift as #Chiefs TE Travis Kelce’s wife.

The Kansas City Chiefs have played some atrocious football through two-quarters of their Week 14 matchup against the Buffalo Bills. Patrick Mahomes has thrown an interception, Clyde Edwards-Helaire looks aggressively average, and the team’s defense has already surrendered two touchdowns.

One of the only notable occurrences in the game for Kansas City was a sound bite from CBS broadcaster Tony Romo who described pop superstar Taylor Swift as tight end Travis Kelce’s wife.

While rumors have swirled about Swift’s romance with Kelce in recent weeks, there has never been any indication of an engagement, and Jim Nantz was quick to correct Romo after the awkward mistake. The broadcast went on as normal, but social media was buzzing about the clip while the Chiefs floundered on the field.

“Swifties” and Chiefs fans took to Twitter after Romo misspoke to voice their opinions about the strange assertion.

Check out their top reactions to the bizarre moment in the broadcast below:

Lions downgrade Alex Anzalone, former Saints LB won’t play in Week 13

Alex Anzalone will miss Sunday’s matchup against his old team due to injury, but the former Saints linebacker found an important silver lining:

The Detroit Lions have officially ruled out linebacker Alex Anzalone for this week’s game versus the New Orleans Saints, downgrading his status from doubtful on Saturday.

This was Anzalone’s first opportunity to play against his former team. Not only will he not play, he won’t travel to New Orleans either. There’s a silver lining for him: Anzalone and his wife Lindsey announced the birth of their daughter on Friday through his official Instagram account, so the young family will have a weekend to themselves.

Anzalone isn’t the only former Saints player sidelined for this game due to an injury. C.J. Gardner-Johnson will also miss this game with a torn pectoral. He suffered this injury early in the season, and it’s unsure if he’ll return by year’s end. It’s the second time an injury has taken Gardner Johnson out of a matchup with the Saints in as many years. The Lions-Saints reunion now starts and stops with the coaching staff.

Saints QB Derek Carr and his family draw cheers at Pelicans-Thunder game

Saints QB Derek Carr and his family drew cheers from the home crowd in New Orleans at Saturday night’s Pelicans-Thunder game, via @DillySanders:

Newly-signed New Orleans Saints quarterback Derek Carr took his family to the New Orleans Pelicans game on Saturday night against the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Smoothie King Center. They were able to sit courtside, and were welcomed by the home-crowd fans with an uproar of applause.

Carr and his sons Dallas, Deker and Deakon along with daughter Brooklyn and wife Heather have been given the superstar treatment by the Saints and Pelicans organizations for his first day in the city.

The Pelicans would go on to lose the game to the Thunder by a score of 110-96, giving him a realistic outlook on the current state of the team. Maybe he can make another trip when Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram return.

Matthew Stafford discusses reaction to photographer’s fall at Rams parade

Matthew Stafford personally texted the photographer and apologized for his reaction

It was a strange moment at last week’s Los Angeles Rams’ Super Bowl parade.

Former Georgia quarterback Matthew Stafford, who was accompanied by his wife and former UGA cheerleader Kelly Stafford, went viral for his reaction to photographer Kelly Smiley falling off the stage right in front of the two. The Rams superstar reacted by quickly turning away, while his wife, however, instantly went to check to see if Smiley was all right.

Stafford, who threw for 283 yards and three touchdowns in the Super Bowl win over the Bengals, expressed regret over his reaction while making an appearance Tuesday on wife Kelly’s podcast, “The Morning After.”

“We can’t not talk about what happened,” Kelly started. “There was a photographer, who stepped off the back of the stage, had asked if we wanted a picture and I was like, ‘Yes,’ because looking back at my camera roll I have literally zero of Matthew and I.

When she offered, she stepped back and fell. And it was an awful, awful moment. Matthew looked at me and said, ‘Check her please,’ and turned around.”

Kelly added that after the fall she went “straight to” Smiley, which can be seen in the above video, and “could see that she was OK.”

“We followed up with her, the moment we got in the car, Matthew actually looked at me and said, ‘Hey, will you contact the Rams, ask how she’s doing?’ Did that, they’re like, ‘We think she’s going to be OK.’ We sent her flowers. Next day we wake up, not OK,” Kelly explained.

Smiley would later reveal on social media that she had fractured her spine as a result of the fall. Following the incident, Kelly said that her husband “actually texted her himself.”

Kelly and Matthew shifted gears to talk about the quarterback’s instant reaction to seeing Smiley’s fall. Matthew noted that he wishes he “had a better reaction in the moment.”

“I do know that the reaction that the world saw in that split second, I do know that’s not what you wish would have been your reaction,” Kelly said.

Stafford then replied, “Yeah, I mean, that obviously happened really quickly and suddenly and unexpectedly, and wish I had a better reaction in the moment.”

The former No. 1 overall NFL draft pick added that he apologized to Smiley over text about the way he reacted.

“One of those things you try to train your reactions to be a little bit better next time,” he said.

The Staffords and the Rams organization will be covering Smiley’s medical expenses, telling People in a statement: “As we told Kelly, we will be covering all her hospital bills and replacing her cameras. We wish her a speedy recovery.”

LOOK: Taysom Hill announces the birth of his son

New Orleans Saints quarterback Taysom Hill had a great explanation for missing two days of training camp practice: the birth of his son Beau

The New Orleans Saints were without Taysom Hill for two days of practice in training camp, and now we know why: Hill’s family just added one more. Hill and his wife Emily announced the birth of their son Beau Nixon Hill on Saturday in a post from the quarterback’s official Instagram account.

It’s the latest and biggest move for Hill’s household, following the one-year contract extension he signed earlier this summer. Hill, who will be celebrating his 30th birthday on Sunday, spent his offseason preparing to compete with Jameis Winston for the right to back up Drew Brees, and maybe set himself up to start under center as soon as 2021.

But asking whether Hill will be up to the task is a question for another day. For now, he’s focused on being a great father, and we’re certainly wishing the best to him and his young family.

Drew Brees donates another $5 million to Louisiana healthcare efforts

New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees and his family donated another $5 million to Louisiana healthcare efforts, partnering with Ochsner

New Orelans Saints quarterback Drew Brees and his wife Brittany made waves earlier this year by pledging $5 million towards fighting the COVID-19 novel coronavirus pandemic. And now they’ve done it again.

The Brees family announced their follow-up in a post from the future Hall of Fame quarterback’s official Instagram account, detailing their plans to help fund the construction of facilities in partnership with Ochsner Health throughout Louisiana. The first center will be built in New Orleans East.

It’s a huge gesture by Brees and his family, and just the latest example of their philanthropy. He’s given back often throughout his career as a professional athlete, and this is proof that he won’t stop using his resources to help others any time soon.

The New Orleans Saints reached an agreement with backup quarterback Taysom Hill on a two-year contract extension, and he was excited to sign the offer they put on the table.

Hill announced the new deal from his official Instagram account, thanking the team for the opportunity and the chance they took on him. Hill first joined the Saints as an older prospect out of college who had already washed out of one NFL team. Now he’s the projected starter once Drew Brees hangs up his cleats, possibly as soon as in 2021.

WATCH: Baker Mayfield’s wife defends comments about ‘fair weather fans’

The 2019 season has not been kind to the Browns or quarterback Baker Mayfield.

The 2019 season has not been kind to the Browns or quarterback Baker Mayfield.

This week, Mayfield’s wife Emily took to Instagram to defend her husband and his team … then had to defend herself.

Late Monday, Mrs. Mayfield posted a black screen to her IG story with a short note reading, “Fairweather fans are HILARIOUS TO ME. Get out of here.”

Browns’ fans did not take kindly to the message. Tuesday, Emily clarified that she noted talking about legitimate Cleveland fans (which, to be fair, would not have had a real opportunity to be “fair weather,” during the actual season). The former first overall draft pick’s with explained she, “didn’t expect to ruffle so many feathers,” adding “No, I was not directing that at the die-hard, loyal fans who have stuck around for years. I’m talking about the idiots who say horrible things about my husband and the team when we lose and are obsessing when we win. That is laughable to me.”

Emily added one final note, “…loyal fans, I see you!”

The Browns are 3-6, better than only the winless Bengals in the division, and host the Steelers (5-4) Thursday.
