UCLA commit Weston Port ranked 3rd-best high school LB in Orange County

Weston Port getting some attention.

The UCLA Bruins football program has landed a number of big recruits since DeShaun Foster was hired as the head coach. One of them is linebacker Weston Port.

As Port begins his high school season, he was ranked as one of the best linebackers in Orange County, per a post from the Orange County Register.

Port was ranked as the 3rd-best in the county, as the San Juan Hills football X account pointed out from the preview piece.

“The UCLA commit heads into his senior season as a four-year starter seeking to punctuate a stellar high school run. Port (6-2, 220) racked up a career-best 128 tackles last fall and added 13 tackles for loss & 3 int’s.”

Port has a four-star ranking and attended UCLA practice over the summer as he seems excited for what lies ahead.

Recruits react on social media to time spent in Norman with the Sooners

How did recruits react on social media to their time spent with the Oklahoma Sooners?

The Oklahoma Sooners hosted a number of prospects across the next few recruiting cycles. This week’s recruiting events have already yielded a commitment with the pledge from Jeremiah Newcombe to the Sooners 2024 class.

These weekends are about furthering recruiting pitches for prospects the Sooners have been recruiting for some time. Additionally, the recruiting events help build relationships with prospects they’re just beginning to recruit as well.

While much of the focus was on the 2024 and 2025 classes, the Sooners looked deep into the future and welcomed 2026 and 2027 prospects as well.

As we do after each of these major recruiting weekends, here’s a look at what some of the prospects had to say after their time in Norman.

‘Future Freaks’ weekend set to be a massive recruiting event for Oklahoma’s present and future

Arguably the second biggest recruiting event of the calendar for Oklahoma will take place this week, with OU hosting its “Future Freaks” day.

Oklahoma has had some major recruiting in the month of March, but none seem as big as the one happening in Norman this weekend.

Officially dubbed “Future Freaks” weekend, Oklahoma plans to host exactly that. The Sooners will be welcoming more than 60 prospects over the next few recruiting classes in Norman.

Oklahoma’s been building momentum for recruiting since landing their top five composite class in 2023. While they have no commitments for 2024, the momentum is building.

Much like a volcano, it’s about to erupt. There’s a real chance the commitment party starts April 8 when Michael Hawkins, Oklahoma’s number one QB target in 2024, will make his commitment.

Oklahoma has plans to keep it pushing forward as they host many talented players this weekend. Here are the players they’ll be hosting over the next three recruiting classes in Norman this week.

Ohio State Football: Quick recruiting recap from this past weekend

It looks like they had a great time

The Buckeyes weren’t just busy on the field this weekend, they are active on the recruiting trail as well. Even though The Game didn’t go Ohio State’s way, it didn’t mean that the weekend was a complete bust. Ryan Day and his staff were active with plenty of recruits who were in Columbus and some that weren’t. Check out some of the action from over the weekend below.

OU, Bedlam to play host to big names with a number of prospects descending on Norman

Oklahoma takes on in-state rival Oklahoma State for Bedlam and will be doing so with a massive group of recruits in attendance. From @thatmanbryant

There’s a fairly significant amount of importance surrounding Bedlam this year. The amount of games left between Oklahoma and Oklahoma State has been reduced significantly with Oklahoma’s impending move to the SEC on the horizon.

We may have 2023 and 2024, but the rivalry will cease as we know it in the next few years. Every game has always mattered but these last few, like the one on Saturday night, will mean a lot more.

Additionally, Oklahoma is fighting for bowl eligibility. They need one more win to participate in 2022’s bowl season.

Lastly and arguably most importantly, Oklahoma has its biggest recruiting weekend of the football season with Oklahoma State coming to town. We’ll revisit 2022 Bedlam several years from now and look back and remember it as a pivotal moment in Oklahoma’s last five to ten years.

There are some big-time names across multiple recruiting classes that will be in attendance for Oklahoma including five-star DT and Texas A&M commit David Hicks and recently dubbed 2024 five-star DT David Stone. More than 20 recruits have already committed to being in Norman, some via social media and others per OUInsider.com.

Rising Cali LB details interest from ‘amazing school’ Clemson

Earlier this year, The Clemson Insider spoke with one of the nation’s top freshmen, who has already begun to hear from Clemson.

San Juan (Capistrano, Calif.) Hills 2025 linebacker Weston Port has been in touch with Wesley Goodwin and detailed his interest from Clemson, as well as from some other high-profile programs around the country.

Port had indicated that Clemson reached out to him after getting ahold of his freshman year film. He spoke with Goodwin in early February, which was just the beginning of his relationship with Clemson’s defensive coordinator and linebackers coach.

“He seems like a really great guy, honestly,” Port said of Goodwin. “I didn’t talk to him too long, but the time that I did talk to him, he seemed like a great coach and someone that I definitely want to get to know better.

“We just talked about my interest in Clemson and maybe just coming out and seeing the campus,” he added “but yeah, just really kind of talking with each other for the first time and meeting. It was great. It’s awesome to talk to a coach at Clemson University. It’s an amazing school for football and stuff outside of that too.”

We followed back up with Port, who told us that his father visited the football facilities last month and toured with one of Clemson’s assistants. Port said that his father was super impressed and that he’ll definitely be visiting at some point, which hopefully could come this summer.

In the meantime, Port has visited schools like BYU, Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Memphis. He also currently holds offers from Michigan, Oregon State, BYU, Arizona, Utah, UNLV, Pitt, Virginia Tech, Louisville, Texas A&M, Georgia, Florida State, Liberty, Colorado, Ole Miss, Arizona State and Oregon.

“It’s great, but none of it’s really tangible,” he said of his ongoing recruitment. “There’s not like this real weight that’s been put on my shoulders or anything. I’m just trying to enjoy the game and have fun like I did before all the offers and stuff.”

As a freshman, Port recorded 91 tackles (25 for loss) and 12 sacks. He lined up on the edge and whenever his team needed him to, he would drop back into coverage.

“I think it went awesome and I’m just excited to improve more and see how much better I can do,” he said regarding his freshman campaign. “I’m happy with what I did, but I’m looking to do more next season.”

Part of that process this offseason was getting in some fieldwork with Clemson starting quarterback D.J. Uiagalelei.

Port describes himself as an aggressive and powerful athlete, who is tenacious and goes to the ball. He doesn’t care whether he plays defensive end or linebacker at the next level, as he is the type of player who will play any position where he’s needed. He also plays tight end for San Juan Hills and mentioned that he’ll be playing a lot more offense this coming season.
