The West Virginia Mountaineers (4-2, 2-1 Big 12) welcome the Oklahoma State Cowboys (4-2, 2-1) to Mountaineer Field at Milan Puskar Stadium Saturday. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. ET (ESPN). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Oklahoma State vs. West Virginia odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

Oklahoma State beat the Kansas Jayhawks 39-32 in Week 7, covering as a 3-point home underdog. It won its last 2 games, both as an underdog and is 2-1 against the spread (ATS) as an underdog this season. The Cowboys are 1-1 ATS on the road and 3-3 ATS overall. They are led by RB Ollie Gordon II, who has 534 rushing yards through 6 games.

Oklahoma State at West Virginia picks and predictions

Prediction

West Virginia 27, Oklahoma State 21

Moneyline

PASS.

The value is on the spread given the expensive value put on West Virginia to win outright.

Against the spread

BET WEST VIRGINIA -3 (-115).

Oklahoma State is 1-1 ATS on the road this season. However, the strength here is how good West Virginia is at home.

It is 3-0 ATS at home with wins over Pitt and Duquesne as a favorite and a 7-point win over Texas Tech as a 6.5-point underdog. The Mountaineers are 2-1 ATS in conference play as well.

Their strength at home and against conference opponents make them the play here. Back WEST VIRGINIA -3 (-115).

Over/Under

LEAN UNDER 49.5 (-110).

West Virginia is 3-3 O/U this season and has scored 24 or fewer points in 3 of its last 4 games. Against Power 5 opponents, it has 2-3 O/U and has topped 24 in just 1 of 5 games.

Oklahoma State is 2-4 O/U and has scored 30 or fewer in 5 of 6. It has allowed 21 or fewer in 3 of 6 as well.

Neither team has had an offense that has consistently topped 30 points per game, and both teams have solid defenses. Couple that with the trends and back the UNDER 49.5 (-110).

West Virginia at Houston odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s West Virginia at Houston odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The West Virginia Mountaineers (4-1) visit the Houston Cougars (2-3) on Thursday. Kick from TDECU Stadium is set for 7 p.m. ET (FS1). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the West Virginia vs. Houston odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

West Virginia took down TCU 24-21 last week to cover as a 14-point road underdog. While QB Garrett Greene struggled through the air with a 10-of-21 performance for 142 yards, he rushed the ball 12 times for 80 yards and 2 TDs. RB CJ Donaldson Jr. also tacked 61 yards on 22 carries and a TD.

Houston fell 49-28 last week to Texas Tech, failing to cover as an 8.5-point road underdog. QB Donovan Smith played well, going 30 of 41 for 335 yards and 4 TDs with his top target being WR Samuel Brown with 10 receptions for 113 yards and a TD. The Cougars struggled on special teams giving up a 100-yard kick return TD and a blocked punt which led to a Texas Tech score as well.

  • Against the spread (ATS): West Virginia -3 (-110) | Houston +3 (-110)

West Virginia at Houston picks and predictions

Prediction

West Virginia 31, Houston 27

Moneyline

PASS.

While West Virginia is expected to win this game, coming off a massive win against TCU, there is more money to be made betting the spread.

Against the spread

BET WEST VIRGINIA -3 (-110).

West Virginia has found its groove in the past 2 weeks, knocking off TCU as a 14-point road underdog and knocking off Texas Tech as a 7-point home underdog. The Cougars played well last week, with Smith playing great under center, but they have lost to both TCU and Texas Tech in the previous 3 weeks by 23 points and 21 points respectively. With the Mountaineers on a hot streak, it would be a difficult decision to fade them. They are also 4-1 ATS this season.

Over/Under

BET OVER 51.5 (-110).

Expect this game to be an offensive battle. Both teams have displayed their offensive abilities in the past few weeks with West Virginia putting up 24 and 20 points, respectively, against top defenses and Houston scoring 28 and 38 points, respectively, in its past 2 performances. Both defenses have also had their struggles recently with the Mountaineers allowing 21 points last week and the Cougars allowing 49 points last week.

West Virginia at TCU odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s West Virginia at TCU odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The West Virginia Mountaineers (3-1, 1-0 Big 12) and the TCU Horned Frogs (3-1, 1-0) meet Saturday at Amon G. Carter Stadium in Fort Worth. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET (ESPN2). Below, we analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the West Virginia vs. TCU odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

The Mountaineers look to push their conference record to 2-0 after earning a 20-13 win over Texas Tech last weekend at Milan Puskar Stadium, cashing as a 6.5-point underdogs. West Virginia has cashed 3 in a row since dropping the opener 38-15 at Penn State.

The defense has been much better for the Mountaineers lately, too, allowing a total of just 36 points in 3 wins over Duquesne, Pitt and TTU, hitting the Under in each of the 2 games against FBS foes during that span.

TCU welcomed Houston to the Big 12 with a 36-13 win on the road, covering a 7-point number, and it doubled up SMU last weekend at home by a 34-17 score to comfortably cash a 6.5-point number. After a narrow 45-42 loss to Colorado in Week 1, which suddenly doesn’t look so bad, TCU has won 3 in a row, covering the past 2 against FBS opponents.

Like West Virginia, defense has been a big part of the turnaround for TCU. The Horned Frogs were gouged for 45 in the opener vs. Colorado, but it has allowed just 36 total points in the past 3 games, cashing the Under in each contest.

  • Against the spread (ATS): West Virginia +13.5 (-104) | TCU -13.5 (-128)
  • Over/Under (O/U): 51.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3012″ ]

West Virginia at TCU picks and predictions

Prediction

TCU 25, West Virginia 16

Moneyline

TCU (-630) will cost you more than 6 times your potential return, and that’s just a ridiculous amount of risk for not nearly enough reward. Even including TCU in a multi-team parlay isn’t a great idea, as it would suck all of the value out of your ticket.

PASS.

Against the spread

WEST VIRGINIA +13.5 (-104) is a solid play here, as the offense has been able to do just enough, and the defense has been nasty. TCU -13.5 (-128) isn’t likely to roll up very big totals, while also holding down the opposition with its tremendous defense.

This will be a good old-fashioned slugfest, with the Mountaineers keeping it within a pair of TDs.

Over/Under

UNDER 51.5 (-110) is the best play on the board, and really, it isn’t even close.

The Mountaineers have managed to average just 17.3 points per game (PPG) on offense in 3 games against FBS opponents, with the outlier being a 56-point explosion against Duquesne of the FCS. On defense, the Mountaineers have yielded just 19 total points in a pair of wins over Texas Tech and Pitt the past 2 weekends.

For TCU, after getting pounded by Colorado for 45 points in the opener, the Horned Frogs have coughed up just 36 total points in the past 3 games, cashing the Under in each contest. It’s offense is a bit more explosive than West Virginia, but it will also have difficulty solving the yellow crush defense.

Pittsburgh at West Virginia odds, picks and predictions

Looking at Saturday’s Pittsburgh Panthers at West Virginia Mountaineers college football odds, lines and trends. Here’s what you need to know.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Pittsburgh Panthers (1-1) visit the West Virginia Mountaineers (1-1) at Milan Puskar Stadium in Morgantown on Saturday. Kickoff in the 106th renewal of the Backyard Brawl is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET (ABC). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Pittsburgh vs. West Virginia odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

Pitt scored 2 TDs in the final 4 minutes to win last year’s meeting in Pittsburgh 38-31. In a series that had a gap from 2012-21, the win marked the Panthers’ 1st since 2008. The Panthers opened the season with a 45-7 victory over FCS Wofford, but suffered a 27-21 setback against Cincinnati last week.

West Virginia lost 38-15 to ranked Penn State in Week 1, but bounced back with a 56-17 thrashing of another Pittsburgh school, FCS-member Duquesne, last Saturday. WVU racked up 619 total yards in that triumph.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3012″ ]

Pittsburgh at West Virginia picks and predictions

Prediction

Pittsburgh 27, West Virginia 21

Moneyline

Pitt went 3-0 straight up and ATS over its last 3 road games in 2022.

Figure the Panthers’ close loss against Cincinnati as being an underrated performance. And Pitt looks to be the healthier team heading into this game.

This game sets up as being more of a 50-50 battle, so the plus money here makes for value. BACK PITTSBURGH +125.

Against the spread

The Panthers figure as balanced in stopping the run and pass, and they do well to keep foes a bit off schedule.

WVU has developed a reputation as a slow-starting team. Look for the Mountaineers to be the team chasing in this year’s meeting. In a close-low-scoring game, BET THE PANTHERS +2.5 (-105).

Over/Under

Either side getting into the 30s would be a surprise. PASS on what is a well-made number.

West Virginia at Penn State odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s West Virginia at Penn State odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The West Virginia Mountaineers take a trip to Happy Valley to visit the Penn State Nittany Lions Saturday. Kickoff from Beaver Stadium is set for 7:30 p.m. ET (NBC). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the West Virginia vs. Penn State odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

Both teams enter this game with a lot of roster changes, particularly at the QB position, and neither team has publicly announced a starter. Former 5-star recruit sophomore QB Drew Allar is expected to be the starter for Penn State and junior Garrett Greene is projected to start for the Mountaineers.

Greene has seen limited playing time in his college career, but his best game came last season when leading his team to a 23-20 win vs. Oklahoma. He completed 12 of 22 passes for 138 yards and 1 TD, while also running for 119 yards and 2 TDs.

The biggest threats in the Mountaineers’ passing game are NC State transfer WR Devin Carter and freshman WR Rodney Gallagher III. Carter is a senior who posted 25 receptions for 406 yards and 2 TD’s last season.

Fans will get their 1st taste of a backfield with Allar and the RB duo of sophomores Nicholas Singleton and Kaytron Allen. The Nittany Lions did suffer a big blow with starting G Landon Tengwall announcing a medical retirement. While a big loss, Penn State’s offensive line depth this year is better than in recent seasons.

Penn State is No. 7 in the USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll.

West Virginia at Penn State picks and predictions

Prediction

Penn State 42, West Virginia 21

Moneyline

PASS.

Penn State should win this game but a (-1400) line is not worth the juice. Bet on the spread or Over/Under instead.

Against the spread

LEAN PENN STATE -20.5 (-110).

This is a very slight lean, as a 3-TD favorite is a risk, but Penn State has all the right tools to blow out West Virginia. This bet does rely heavily on how Allar will play in his 1st start, but based on his play as a backup last year, he’ll do just fine. Penn State’s high-powered offense will be too much for the Mountaineers. The Nittany Lions’ defense will also be pivotal in this game, as they are huge up front and have stars on all 3 levels.

Over/Under

BET OVER 49.5 (-110).

This will likely be the best Penn State offense in years, and I expect Allar, Singleton, and Allen to carve up the Mountaineers’ defense. Penn State has always been very good defensively, but I do expect the Mountaineers to put up a few TDs as well. The dual-threat ability of Greene will add a facet to this WVU offense that will lead to some scores.

The 9th-seeded West Virginia Mountaineers (19-14) battle the 8-seed Maryland Terrapins (21-12) Thursday in the first NCAA Tournament matchup of a 16-game opening-round slate. Tip-off from Birmingham’s Legacy Arena is set for 12:15 p.m. ET (CBS). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the West Virginia vs. Maryland odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and best bets.

Check out: USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll

West Virginia ended the regular season losing 4 of its last 7 games. It beat Texas Tech 78-62 in the Big 12 Tournament as a 4-point favorite before losing to the eventual West Region’s No. 1 seed in Kansas 78-61. Thanks to a late run, the Mountaineers are 17-16 against the spread (ATS) this season. They covered 5 in a row before the loss to Kansas as 3-point underdogs.

Maryland lost as a 2.5-point underdog to the Indiana Hoosiers 70-60 in the Big Ten quarterfinals after beating Minnesota 70-54, slightly covering as a 14-point fave. The Terps lost 3 of their last 4 games, yet did win 8 of their last 12 to close out the regular season. The Terrapins enter the NCAA Tournament with a 21-12 ATS record.

West Virginia vs. Maryland picks and predictions

Prediction

Maryland 70, West Virginia 67

Moneyline

PASS.

I like the Terrapins, and there is clear value as they have plus-money odds here. I would prefer to get a couple of points on the spread and would pass on the (+110) moneyline.

Against the spread

BET MARYLAND +2.5 (-115).

The Terrapins were more impressive down the stretch than the Mountaineers. West Virginia lost 4 of its last 7 games and 3 of its last 4 games on the road. It was also blasted by Kansas.

Maryland has several good wins on the season — taking down tournaments teams like Purdue, Penn State and Northwestern in its last 10 games. The strength-on-weakness should bode well for Maryland, which has an elite defense.

It ranks 24th in opponents’ points per game (63.2), according to NCAA.com. It should be able to heavily limit a West Virginia team that ranks 133rd in field-goal percentage (45.3%). The Terrapins’ defensive dominance should help it prevail.

BACK MARYLAND +2.5 (-115).

Stream select live college basketball games and full replays: Get ESPN+

Over/Under

LEAN UNDER 138.5 (-112).

Maryland has gone Under in 3 straight games and is 11-21-1 O/U on the season. It has a defense that is among the best in the nation and should be able to tame West Virginia.

The Mountaineers have gone Under in 2 straight games, both conference tournament games.  Maryland ranks 125th in defensive rebounding rate which is in the top half of the nation.

West Virginia is solid on the offensive glass, ranking 90th in the nation in offensive boards per game (11.1). The Terrapins’ strength should neutralize West Virginia, which may result in a slower game and the Under hitting. BACK UNDER 138.5 (-112).

Big 12 Tournament: West Virginia vs. Kansas odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s West Virginia vs. Kansas odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The 8th-seeded West Virginia Mountaineers (19-13) battle the 1st-seeded Kansas Jayhawks (25-6) Thursday in the quarterfinals of the Big 12 Tournament. Tip from T-Mobile Center is set for 3 p.m. ET (ESPN). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the West Virginia vs. Kansas odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and bets.

Check out: USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll

The Jayhawks beat the Mountaineers 76-74 in Kansas on Feb. 25 and 76-72 in West Virginia on Jan. 7. They are 1-1 against the spread (ATS) over the series and the Under connected in both meetings.

Kansas had a 7-game win streak snapped with a 75-59 loss at Texas in its regular-season finale Saturday. That win streak included the victory over WVU, a home win over Baylor and a road win over TCU. The Jayhawks are 14-17 ATS on the season and 16-15 O/U.

West Virginia beat Texas Tech 78-62 in the first round of the Big 12 Tournament Wednesday, covering as a 4-point favorite. It is 4-1 straight up and 5-0 ATS in its last 5 games, with the lone loss coming at Kansas. The Mountaineers finished the regular season 16-15 ATS and 21-10 O/U.

West Virginia vs. Kansas picks and predictions

Prediction

Kansas 76, West Virginia 71

Moneyline

AVOID.

Kansas (-170) won both regular-season matchups — including on West Virginia’s home court and is rested following an opening-round bye. However, this is past my limit for a moneyline wager, particularly when the Jayhawks should win by margin.

Stream select live college basketball games and full replays: Get ESPN+

Against the spread

LEAN KANSAS -3.5 (-110).

Kansas covered 5 of its last 8 games to close out the season, winning 7 of them straight up.

It lost the battle on the offensive glass by 7 rebounds and shot just 59% from the free-throw line in its 2-point win over West Virginia on Feb. 25. Those figures should improve for the Jayhawks, and they should be able to pull away.

West Virginia isn’t a deep team and could have some tired legs after having two of its top players on the floor for 38 and 40 minutes Wednesday against Texas Tech.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 148.5 (-105).

The Under was the better side for both regular-season matchups between these two teams, and Kansas does not play at a quick tempo.

The Jayhawks have gone 6-9 O/U in their last 15 outings and have hit the Under in 4 straight games, two of which featured both teams scoring fewer than 70 points.

West Virginia is 2-2 O/U in its last 4 contests and went Under against Texas Tech in its Big 12 Tournament opener.

West Virginia at Iowa State picks and predictions

Prediction

Iowa State 70, West Virginia 66

Moneyline

ISU’s slide has been very real. WVU can struggle against a good inside game and is inconsistent, but the Mountaineers would be worth a look if this price got to +155 or better.

PASS otherwise.

AVOID.

Would want WVU +5.5 or more.

Both sides can pile up points off turnovers and on put-backs. WVU got to the free-throw line 31 times in meeting No. 1 and has been solid of late from beyond the perimeter.

LEAN BAYLOR +6.5 (-115).

The Mountaineers have not rebounded well recently after losing by 20 or more points; in their last 5 such games, they are 0-5 ATS.

Meanwhile, Baylor is 4-1-1 ATS in its last 6 games following an ATS win, is 4-1 ATS in its last 5 Monday games, and is 4-1 in its last 5 home games against a team with a losing road record.

Expect the Bears’ offense, ranked 32nd in the nation averaging 78.8 points per game, to be too much for the Mountaineers’ defense, ranked 189th allowing 70.2 PPG.

Over/Under

BET OVER 148.5 (-110).

The Mountaineers’ O/U record this season is 17-8 with their last 5 games hitting the Over and 7 of their last 10 hitting the Over. The Over is also 6-1 in their last 7 Monday games.

For the Bears, the Over is 5-0 in their last 5 games against a team with a winning outright record and 2-1 in their last 3 games.

Iowa State at West Virginia odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Iowa State at West Virginia odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The No. 13 Iowa State Cyclones (6-6, 7-3 Big 12) and West Virginia Mountaineers (14-9, 3-7) lock horns Wednesday. The Big 12 game at the WVU Coliseum in Morgantown tips off at 7 p.m. ET (ESPN2). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Iowa State vs. West Virginia odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and bets.

Iowa State defeated current-No. 8 Kansas 68-53 Saturday, but the Cyclones are just 2-3 straight up and 1-4 against the spread (ATS) over their last 5 games. The Big 12’s leading defense (61.0 points per game) has been touched up for 76-plus points in 3 of its last 4 games.

The Mountaineers are 3-1 in their last 4 games and look to have steadied their season after a 5-game losing streak from Dec. 31-Jan. 14. West Virginia is 1 of the top offensive rebounding teams in the Big 12 and 1 of the top free-throw frequency teams in the nation. WVU has averaged 27.5 looks from the line over its last 4 games.

Iowa State at West Virginia picks and predictions

Prediction

West Virginia 68, Iowa State 67

Moneyline

PASS.

West Virginia is unplayable while I prefer Iowa State with the points.

Stream select live college basketball games and full replays: Get ESPN+

Against the spread

The Cyclones are 7-2 ATS in their last 9 games against foes playing .600 ball. ISU is 5-1 ATS in its last 6 games following an ATS win. The Mountaineers are 0-6 ATS in their last 6 games following a straight-up win.

Iowa State’s interior defense is a difference-maker in this match-up. ISU has lost 4 straight on the road but has suffered some shotting percentages that don’t fit with expectations. Look for some regression in this tough road game.

WVU may well be a sell-high candidate, a team that will settle somewhere between recent success and the earlier 5-game skid.

BACK THE CYCLONES +3.5 (-105).

Over/Under

Slow-paced ISU crashes with up-tempo WVU. No room on and around this figure: PASS.
