Gonzaga vs. West Virginia odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Wednesday’s Gonzaga vs. West Virginia sports betting odds and lines, with college basketball betting picks, tips and predictions.

The No. 2 Gonzaga Bulldogs (2-0) and 15th-ranked West Virginia Mountaineers (3-0) meet Wednesday at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis at 7 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze the Gonzaga-West Virginia college basketball betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

Gonzaga vs. West Virginia: Betting odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 7:20 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Gonzaga -455 (bet $455 to win $100) | West Virginia +333 (bet $100 to win $333)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Gonzaga -8.5 (-110) | West Virginia +8.5 (-110)
  • Over/Under: 154.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

Gonzaga vs. West Virginia: Three things to know

  1. Gonzaga has fired out of the chute with a pair of impressive wins over Kansas and Auburn. They covered a four-point spread over the Jayhawks, 102-90, and they blasted the Tigers, 90-67, to easily cover an 18.5-point number. They’re hitting 58.5 percent from the floor so far while rounding up 34.0 rebounds per game.
  2. Western Kentucky has played three neutral-site games, and won three times, going 2-1 ATS. After failing to cover in its opener against South Dakota State, they covered the number in wins over Virginia Commonwealth and Western Kentucky. The Over is 1-0 in the game they failed to cover, while the Under is 2-0 in the two games the hit against the number.
  3. The Mountaineers have hit 41.1 percent from the field, while shooting a dismal 31.7 percent from behind the arc. Defensively, West Virginia is good at defending the long-range shot, limiting the opposition to just 24.6 percent from behind the 3-point line.

Gonzaga vs. West Virginia: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Gonzaga 85, West Virginia 74

Money line (ML)

Gonzaga (-455) has been dominant so far, while West Virginia (+333) has struggled against much lesser competition. This is a good measuring stick game for the Mountaineers, and it’s going to show that they don’t quite measure up. PASS.

Against the spread (ATS)

GONZAGA -8.5 (-110) is rolling up 96.0 points per game to rank 17th in the nation, and no one has offered much resistance through two games. The Bulldogs are hitting a robust 58.5 percent from the floor, and there is little reason to believe West Virginia +8.5 (-110), who barely beat South Dakota State, VCU and Western Kentucky, will be able to slow down the Zags.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 154.5 (-110) is the lean here, as Gonzaga can fill up the basket with plenty of points. They tossed a blanket on Auburn last time out, but West Virginia should be able to do a little more of the offensive end. It might come down to some late free throws, but this game will inch across the finish line.

South Dakota State vs. West Virginia odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Wednesday’s South Dakota vs. West Virginia sports betting odds and lines, with college basketball betting picks, tips and predictions.

The South Dakota State Jackrabbits and West Virginia Mountaineers tip off their college basketball seasons Wednesday at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, S.D., at 7 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze the South Dakota State-West Virginia college basketball betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

South Dakota State vs. West Virginia: Betting odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 9:45 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: South Dakota State +375 (bet $100 to win $375) | West Virginia -500 (bet $500 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: South Dakota State +9.5 (-110) | West Virginia -9.5 (-110)
  • Over/Under: 145.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

South Dakota State vs. West Virginia: Three things to know

  1. West Virginia opens the season No. 15 in the USA TODAY Sports Men’s Basketball Coaches Poll. The Mountaineers registered a 21-10 regular-season record, including a 16-2 mark on their home floor, but they were just 5-8 in road/neutral-site contests. They were 16-15 ATS last season, while the Under dominated at 21-9-1.
  2. South Dakota State is projected by many prognosticators to win the Summit League, edging out rival South Dakota. The Jackrabbits won 22 games a season ago, and they were a perfect 16-0 on their home floor. SDSU also went 21-8 ATS, while the Over edged the Under 15-14.
  3. The Jackrabbits bring back their top four scorers from last season’s talented squad, including the 2019-20 Summit League Player of the Year in F Douglas Wilson. SoDak State struggled defensively last season, though, yielding 70.5 points per game. That’s where West Virginia will go to town, especially in the frontcourt with bigger bodies wearing down the Jackrabbits in the second half.

South Dakota State vs. West Virginia: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

West Virginia 79, South Dakota State 68

Money line (ML)

West Virginia (-500) was originally expected to face Northern Iowa, which would have been a bit of an easier draw, but the lineup at the Bad Boy Mowers Crossover Classic was shuffled due to some COVID-19 issues, and now the Mountaineers face what’s essentially the home side in the opener.

It’s a tough draw, but a good early test for the ranked Mountaineers. Still, it’s too risky to play the Mountaineers at five times your potential return. AVOID.

Against the spread (ATS)

WEST VIRGINIA -9.5 (-110) is going to be a play bettors look at early on and they just shake their heads. South Dakota State could start out hot, as they are playing in their home state, and they’re not a bad team.

Eventually, the talent of the Mountaineers, with frontcourt members Derek Culver and Oscar Tshiebwe, will wear down the Jackrabbits. Bet this lightly, in what will eventually be looked back at as a quality double-digit win for West Virginia.

Over/Under (O/U)

My first inclination is to PASS. The total is set at 146, and it’s going to be super close. Just play the line and live to see another day if you like Overs and Unders.

TCU at West Virginia odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Saturday’s TCU Horned Frogs at West Virginia Mountaineers sports betting odds and lines, with college football betting picks, tips and predictions.

The TCU Horned Frogs (3-3 overall, 3-3 Big 12) tangle with the West Virginia Mountaineers (4-3, 3-3) in a Saturday afternoon contest in Morgantown, W.Va. Kickoff will be at noon ET. Below, we analyze the TCU-West Virginia college football betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

TCU at West Virginia: Betting odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated Thursday at 5:40 p.m. ET.

  • Money line: TCU +125 (bet $100 to win $125) | West Virginia -150 (bet $150 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: TCU +3 (-110) | West Virginia -3 (-110)
  • Over/Under: Over/Under: 45.5 (O: -106 | U: -115)

TCU at West Virginia: Three things to know

  • The TCU offense has produced just six aerial touchdowns in as many games this fall. The Horned Frogs have averaged 211.7 passing yards per game (85th in FBS). Things don’t figure to trend the other way this week: West Virginia ranks fourth in the nation in passing yardage allowed. The Mountaineers have yielded just 161.6 passing yards per game.
  • West Virginia QB Jarrett Doege is a fourth-year talent who has thrown 57 TD passes and 21 picks over his career. After throwing a combined three interceptions in games against Baylor (Oct. 3) and Kansas (Oct. 17), Doege has responded by logging three straight 300-yard games without a pick. Over that stretch, the WVU signal-caller has thrown 134 passes.
  • WVU has won three of the last four meetings in this series (4-0 against the spread). The Mountaineers won in Ft. Worth last fall, beating the Frogs 20-17 in a defensive struggle which produced just 541 combined yards ad five turnovers.

TCU at West Virginia: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

West Virginia 27, TCU 24

Money line (ML)

Both teams have a couple of one-score losses this season, but TCU figures to have a bit more momentum. There is quite a bit of gray area, however, in quantifying much more than that. In a game that should perhaps have more of a one-and-a-half-point line, TAG A SLIGHT LEAN ON TCU (+125) due to some value on the price.

Against the spread (ATS)

Too many conflicting signals: PASS.

Over/Under (O/U)

The profiles of these teams have the total tamped down into the mid-40s. Peg that total as yielding some value on the high side. Both defenses are adept at creating havoc, enough so to set up several short-field scores. Figure TCU as being able to stay on schedule perhaps more than is suggested by surface numbers and apply the same logic to West Virginia’s big-play potential.

Throw in a default setting for 2020 college football, and BACK THE OVER 45.5 (-106).

West Virginia at Texas odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Saturday’s West Virginia Mountaineers at Texas Longhorns sports betting odds and lines, with college football betting picks, tips and predictions.

The West Virginia Mountaineers (4-2, 3-2 Big 12) and Texas Longhorns (4-2, 3-2) meet at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin, Texas, for a noon ET kickoff Saturday. Below, we analyze the West Virginia-Texas college football betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

The Longhorns received 115 points in the Amway Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports, the top team receiving votes outside of the Top 25.

West Virginia at Texas: Betting odds and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated Thursday at 6:38 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: West Virginia +190 (bet $100 to win $190) | Texas -239 (bet $239 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: West Virginia +6.5 (-110) | Texas -6.5 (-110)
  • Over/Under: 55.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

West Virginia at Texas: Three things to know

  1. West Virginia posted an impressive 37-10 win over previously ranked Kansas State as a 5-point favorite last week. At home the Mountaineers have been outstanding, going 4-0 SU/ATS. However, they’re 0-2 SU/ATS in their two road trips – to Oklahoma State and Texas Tech.
  2. Texas is looking to build upon an impressive 41-34 overtime win at Oklahoma State last weekend, knocking the Cowboys from the ranks of the unbeaten. The Longhorns have been so-so at the DKR this season, going 2-1 SU and 1-1-1 ATS, pushing against Baylor Oct. 24 in their most recent showing in Austin.
  3. The Longhorns are averaging 44.3 PPG to rank 10th, helped in large part by the pass game. QB Sam Ehlinger has completed 60.3 percent of his pass attempts for 1,650 yards, 20 touchdowns and 5 interceptions across six games, while running for 284 yards and 7 more scores.

West Virginia at Texas: Odds, prediction, betting lines and picks

Prediction

Texas 41, West Virginia 30

Money line (ML)

Texas (-239) is just a little more expensive than my personal limit, which is no higher than -180 on money lines. Look to the spread instead. AVOID.

Against the spread (ATS)

TEXAS (-6.5, -110) is a strong play on this side of a flat 7, even though it’s been a mixed bag for the ‘Horns at the DKR. They pushed last time they were home against underwhelming Baylor, posting a season-low 27 points in the 11-point win. However, West Virginia (+6.5, -110) has stunk on the road and cannot be trusted until it starts ticking off wins away from Morgantown.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 55.5 (-110) is a slam-dunk play, hitting in five of six games for the Longhorns this season. They’re averaging 39.0 PPG in three games at home this season, while their defense has allowed 33 or more points in four of the past five games overall. Texas gets into plenty of track meets, and there’s no reason to believe Saturday will be any different.
