March Madness: Clemson vs. Baylor odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Clemson vs. Baylor odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The 6th-seeded Clemson Tigers (22-11) face the 3rd-seeded Baylor Bears (24-10) Sunday in a 2nd-round game in the NCAA Tournament. Tip from FedExForum in Memphis is scheduled for 6:10 p.m. ET (TNT). Below, we analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Clemson vs. Baylor odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and bets.

Clemson beat 11-seed New Mexico 77-56 on Friday as a 2-point underdog in the 1st round, as the Under (153) cashed. F Ian Schieffelin gave the Tigers a double-double (16 points and 12 rebounds) and G Chase Hunter pumped in 21 points. Clemson looks to go to the Sweet 16 for the 1st time since 2018.

The 3rd-seeded Bears didn’t break a sweat in their 92-67 win over the 14th-seeded Colgate Raiders. They covered the 14.5-point spread as favorites as the Over (137.5) cashed. Four Bears scored in double figures led by F Jalen Bridges‘s 23 points. Baylor dominated on the glass, outrebounding the Raiders 33-24. Baylor was last in the Sweet 16 in 2020.

Baylor is No. 13 in the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll.

Clemson vs. Baylor picks and predictions

Prediction

Baylor 78, Clemson 70

Moneyline

PASS.

I was impressed by Clemson’s victory over New Mexico on Friday night. They left no doubt who was the better team on the court, but as good as they looked, the Bears looked just as good if not better in their win over Colgate.

I like Baylor to win this game comfortably, but I’m going to reserve my bet for the spread instead of the moneyline because I’d have to wager almost 2 units to win 1. I would consider putting Baylor into a moneyline parlay though.

Against the spread

BET BAYLOR -4.5 (-106).

I love what the Bears bring to the floor, a lot of tough, talented athletes who go hard for 40 minutes. They also have a coach (Scott Drew)  who has been to the mountain top and knows how to win on the biggest stages. They will force Clemson to play Baylor basketball, which does not fit their style. The Tigers will be put into uncomfortable situations which will cause unenforced errors.

Baylor has covered the spread in 2 of its last 3 while the Tigers have failed to in 2 of their last 3.

Over/Under

PASS.

I hate to not give you a pick, but I just don’t see an edge either way with this game. If I had a lean, it would be the Over because Baylor likes to play up-tempo and run the floor and Clemson’s defense has not been as good as in years past. I’m going to keep my focus on the spread in this game.

March Madness: Colgate vs. Baylor odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Colgate vs. Baylor odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The No. 14 seed Colgate Raiders (25-9) face off against the 3rd-seeded Baylor Bears (23-10) Friday in a 1st-round game in the NCAA Tournament. Tip from FedExForum in Memphis is scheduled for 12:40 p.m. ET (truTV). Below, we analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Colgate vs. Baylor odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and bets.

After finishing the regular season 22-9, Colgate won 3 games to claim the Patriot League Tournament title, capped by a 74-55 home victory over the Lehigh Mountain Hawks. The Raiders covered as 8-point favorites and the Under (136) cashed. Colgate is led by Patriot League Player of the Year G Braeden Smith, who averaged 12.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 5.8 assists and 1.9 steals during his sophomore campaign. Colgate was 17-15-1 against the spread (ATS) and just 1-3-1 ATS over its last 5 regular-season games — the Raiders went 1-2 ATS in the conference tourney.

The Bears lost in the Big-12 Tournament semifinal 76-72 to the eventual champion Iowa State Cyclones. Baylor did not cover as a 2-point underdog and the Over (134.5) cashed. Baylor has one of the most balanced offenses in the country with 6 players averaging double figures in points, led by G Ja’Kobe Walter’s 14.2 PPG. The court general is 2nd team All Big-12 selection G RayJ Dennis who averaged 13.3 points, 6.8 assists, 3.8 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game. The Bears finished 18-11-3 ATS, including 5-3-2 ATS in their last 10 regular-season games — they went 1-1 ATS in the conference tourney.

Baylor is No. 13 in the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll.

Colgate vs. Baylor picks and predictions

Prediction

Baylor 78, Colgate 57

Moneyline

PASS.

You should obviously avoid betting Baylor (-1450) as these odds are pretty steep. One would have to risk 14½ times the potential profit. That’s just not smart sports betting. Back the spread and/or total instead.

Against the spread

BET BAYLOR -13.5 (-120).

As much as I want to root for an upset, this is an awful draw for Colgate. This Baylor team is just on another level athletically and should thoroughly thrash the Raiders. The Bears went 5-1 ATS when facing mid-major schools during their non-conference schedule. They also have also beaten 8 teams this season that made the NCAA Tournament.  Only TCU and BYU scored more points per game than Baylor did in the Big 12.

Colgate faced 3 teams that made the Big Dance, going 1-2 in those games. The Raiders just don’t have the horses to keep up with the Bears.

Stream select live college basketball games and full replays: Get ESPN+

Over/Under

BET UNDER 138.5 (-110).

Colgate faced 2 ranked teams this season, and were beaten soundly. It only managed to score 55 against Arizona and 57 against Illinois. Those teams are on par with the likes of Baylor. Both of those games went Under the posted total because of the Raiders’ inability to score. Colgate was 12-20-1 O/U this season, including 3-6-1 O/U in its last 10 games

The Bears are a mixed bag when it comes to the total (17-15 O/U). They will get their points in this 1st-round matchup, but they7 will hold the Raiders under 60, leading to the UNDER (138.5) coming through.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Kansas Jayhawks (21-7, 9-6 Big 12) and Baylor Bears (20-8, 9-6) are lined up for a Saturday matinee in Waco. Tip-off from Foster Pavilion is set for 1 p.m. ET (ABC). Below, we analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Kansas vs. Baylor odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and best bets.

Kansas, ranked No. 9 in the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll, is coming off a Tuesday loss and is just 3-3 straight up and 2-4 against the spread (ATS) in its last 6 games. Tuesday as 8-point home favorites, the Jayhawks lost to the then-No. 21 BYU Cougars 78-66. KU allowed 13 3-pointers, while sinking just 3 in the defeat.

The 14th-ranked Bears also recently lost to the Cougars. Three games ago for Baylor, it lost as a 3.5-point underdog 78-71 at BYU Feb. 20. The Bears followed that with another loss — 82-76 in overtime as 2.5-point home underdogs to then-No. 2, now-No. 1 Houston Feb. 24. The Bears bounced back Monday with a 62-54 triumph as 2.5-point underdogs at TCU. The 54 points allowed marked a BU season-best in league play.

Baylor and Kansas played in Lawrence Feb. 10 with the Jayhawks claiming a 64-61 victory, but the Bears covering as 5.5-point underdogs and the Under (148.5) cashing.

Kansas at Baylor picks and predictions

Prediction

Baylor 73, Kansas 68

Moneyline

Baylor is 13-2 at home this season, and both losses were in overtime. The most recent of those was the heartbreaker vs. Houston.

The Bears have a penchant for frequent launches from beyond the arc, and their 40.2% success rate ranks 2nd in the country, per kenpom.com. Figure solid leverage there, on the boards and in getting to the foul line.

This one is worth a line watch. Back the Bears if the tag drops to -190 or lower.

Against the spread

The last 6 meetings in the Jayhawks-Bears series have netted an ATS split. Baylor is the lean side, but the Bears have had some game flows of late that don’t offer enough projectability of a touchdown advantage. PASS.

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under

The last 15 Kansas losses have yielded an Under going 10-5 the next time out (4-1 this season), per statfox.com.

The Jayhawks typically play an up-tempo style, while the Bears play slow. But when Baylor squared off against the 3 fastest squads in the Big 12 (BYU, Kansas, TCU), those contest have seen BU hold sway with the pace, and the Under has gone 4-1.

Both teams excel in forcing less-than-optimum mid-range attempts at the defensive end.

BACK THE UNDER 145.5 (-110).

Texas at Baylor picks and predictions

Prediction

Texas 30, Baylor 17

Moneyline

Even with Texas being heavily favored in Saturday’s Big 12 matchup, AVOID the moneyline in this game. Taking the Longhorns at -650 odds isn’t advised given the minimal profit you’ll receive if they win.

Against the spread

BAYLOR +14.5 (-110) is the play in this game despite the Bears struggling through the 1st 3 weeks. Texas and Baylor are both playing its 1st conference game of the season, and the Bears can keep it closer than expected at home.

At the same time, the Longhorns needed 21 points in the 4th quarter of last week’s game just to beat Wyoming at home. Texas could have still been looking back at its win over Alabama in Week 2, but it’ll be interesting to see how the Longhorns respond on Saturday.

Over/Under

UNDER 49.5 (-110) is the pick in this game as Baylor’s offense has looked inconsistent to begin the season. Even QB Quinn Ewers looked out of sorts for Texas last week, completing only 11 of his 21 attempts for 131 yards and 2 TDs.

Texas and Baylor are a combined 2-4 to the Over in the 1st 3 weeks of the season. Plus, the Over is 1-9 in the last 10 meetings overall.

Utah at Baylor odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Utah at Baylor odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Utah Utes (1-0) and the Baylor Bears (0-1) meet Saturday at McLane Stadium in Waco, Texas. Kickoff is scheduled for noon ET (ESPN). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Utah vs. Baylor odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

Utah opened the season with an impressive 24-11 thumping of the visiting Florida Gators, avenging last season’s opening loss in Gainesville. It was especially impressive given the Utes used QB Bryson Barnes in just his 2nd career start for the injured QB Cam Rising. NFL prospect TE Brant Kuithe was also sidelined due to injury, yet the Utes still rolled.

While there is no update on Kuithe, Rising was able to practice without limitations this week.

The Bears also have a big injury at the quarterback spot. QB Blake Shapen was knocked out of the opener against Texas State, as he suffered an MCL injury and will be sidelined at least 2-3 weeks. QB Sawyer Robertson will get the nod against the high-powered Utes.

Baylor lost its opener last week against the Bobcats, falling 42-31 as heavy favorites, and it appears in danger of starting 0-2 for the 1st time since 2017 in the Matt Rhule era.

Utah is No. 12 in the USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll.

Utah at Baylor picks and predictions

Prediction

Utah 34, Baylor 10

Moneyline

Utah (-300) will cost you 3 times your potential return, and that’s just too much risk for not enough reward, especially on the road.

While Baylor (+240) is banged up, and the Bears are a hurt animal after last week’s embarrassing loss to a Sun Belt team, this still could be a dangerous team at home, even with a backup QB.

PASS.

Against the spread

UTAH -7.5 (-110) was one of my 1st plays when I saw the line was under a flat 7 earlier in the week. It has crept up a bit, perhaps due to cynicism that Robertson can get the job done, and perhaps due to the fact Rising could return. Even if the starter is sidelined, Barnes looked more than capable in last week’s beating of Florida.

Over/Under

UNDER 47 (-110) is the play.

We could potentially have 2 backup QBs facing each other, and we know that Utah’s defense is super nasty. It limited the Gators to just 3 points for a majority of the game before Florida tacked on a late TD and 2-point conversion to make things look more respectable.

Robertson starting against the Utes could be a nightmare, and the Bears could fail to growl much on offense. The Baylor D was a joke against Texas State, so Utah could have a day on offense. But this Utes offense should still be in the 30’s, points-wise.

March Madness: Creighton vs. Baylor odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Creighton vs. Baylor odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The 6th-ranked Creighton Bluejays (22-12) and No. 3 Baylor Bears (23-10) will let fly feather and fur Sunday in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The South Region match-up at Ball Arena in Denver is slated to tip off at 7:10 p.m. ET (TBS). Let’s analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Creighton vs. Baylor odds as we make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and best bets.

Creighton is No. 22 in the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll. The 3-happy Bluejays went just 3 of 20 from distance but still managed a 73-62 1st-round win over NC State. CU has shot just 23.3% from 3-point range over its last 2 games, both of which were neutral-site tournament games — well short of its season average of 35.48% (102nd).

Baylor is ranked 11th in the nation. The Bears launch triples even more frequently than the Bluejays, but they’ve been on target lately. Including a 74-56 win over UC Santa Barbara Friday, BU has averaged 10.8 3-pointers made per game since Feb. 11 while shooting 41.3% from distance.

Against the spread

These are two similar teams that can bomb it, but Baylor has the edge in expected 2nd-chance buckets and free-throw frequency. Creighton answers with a better defense and a propensity to get more looks at the rim.

Can’t split ’em: PASS.

Over/Under

The Under has hit in back-to-back Creighton games and 2 of Baylor’s last 3. The Under is 4-1 in the Bluejays’ last 5 games against teams playing .600 basketball and is 7-2 across Baylor’s last 9 in that same category.

Yes, these teams can fill it from distance, but the contest will still have plenty of good defense and likely be played at a mid-pace.

BACK THE UNDER 145.5 (-108).

March Madness: UC Santa Barbara vs. Baylor odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s UC Santa Barbara vs. Baylor odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The 14th-seeded UC Santa Barbara Gauchos (27-7) meet the No. 3 Baylor Bears (22-10) in an NCAA Tournament first-round game in Denver Friday. The contest at Ball Arena will tip off at 1:30 p.m. ET (TNT). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the UC Santa Barbara vs. Baylor
odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and bets.

UC Santa Barbara swept the regular-season and tournament titles in this season’s Big West Conference play. UCSB sported that league’s most efficient offense, averaging 72.2 points per game. The Gauchos are a good shooting team and one that takes care of the ball and frequently totes it to the free-throw line. They enter this game on a 7-game win streak.

Baylor lost it regular-season finale and Big 12 Tournament opener and is just 2-4 in its last 6 games. The 11th-ranked Bears have struggled with their 2-point shooting over that stretch while their 3-point shooting (40.6% on 26.7 attempts per game over those 6 games) has continued to be Baylor’s bread and butter.

Against the spread

UCSB is 20-10-1 ATS and the Gauchos have not been an ATS loser since Feb. 20. Peg UC Santa Barbara as just a sliver of a lean here. The Bears are quite dangerous and can so easily flip a late 8-point lead to 14 in short order. The Gauchos would be an actionable play at +12.5 or +13.

PASS.

Over/Under

The Gauchos play at a bottom-3rd pace, and they will try to grind this game down to as few possessions as possible. They do take good enough care of the basketball to at least keep BU from 3-bombing them to death in transition.

There will be plenty of build-up by 3s and clock-stopped-1s (free throws), but look Baylor saving some in reserve for the weekend. Look for a score in the 130s.

TAKE THE UNDER 143.5 (-110).

The South Region has some heavy hitters, as Pac-12 Tournament champion Arizona is the 2-seed, joined by 3-seed Baylor from the Big 12. South Region expert pick and prediction

Baylor Bears (+550)

The Bears lost in their 1st game of the Big 12 Tournament against their kryptonite, Iowa State, and it likely dropped them a peg to the 3 line. That’s OK, as this team has been resilient all season, and truthfully, it received a little more much-needed rest.

Baylor has a resume littered with impressive wins after traversing the ultra-competitive Big 12, racking up 22 victories along the way. It has scored wins over a 1-seed, Kansas, while also taking down the likes of Arkansas, Gonzaga, Texas and UCLA. It swept conference member and tournament West Virginia in 2 regular-season meetings, too.

This Baylor team can score plenty, averaging 77.3 points per game (PPG) in the regular season, while hitting 36.8% from behind the arc. It is a solid free-throw shooting team, too, hitting 74.6% from the line, which is key in close games, especially in the NCAA Tournament. Defensively, the Bears could do better, but they’re adequate, especially along the perimeter. Defenses hit just 32.0% from downtown against Baylor.

Things are set up nicely for Baylor, as it should ease by the winner of Creighton-NC State, and it matches up well with Arizona in a potential Sweet Sixteen matchup. I like the team’s experience in a potential matchup with Alabama in the Regional Final, too. At this price, Baylor is the best value in the region.

Top 25: USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll

South Region contenders

These 2 teams are worth a futures bet to win the region.

ARIZONA WILDCATS (+450)

The Wildcats are flying high after bumping off rival Arizona State in the Pac-12 Tournament semifinals, before dropping UCLA in an epic Pac-12 Championship game.

Arizona sports one of the best players in the nation in Azuolas Tubelis, as he averaged 19.9 PPG, 9.2 RPG and 2.0 APG during the regular season, while hitting 57.7% from the field. Oumar Ballo clogs up the paint, too, providing a giant obstacle for the opposition. But he can also score, posting 13.9 PPG, while cleaning the glass at an 8.6 RPG rate. He is very efficient from the field, too, cashing in at 64.5%.

This is a high-flying offense, going for 83.1 PPG, and a defense which limited teams to just 41.0% from the field. That’s a nice combination for success.

ALABAMA CRIMSON TIDE (+180)

There isn’t a ton of value in playing the chalk, as taking ‘Bama to win the South Region will only multiply your initial wager 1.8 times. I also don’t like the distraction of the off-court issues the Crimson Tide have faced, although to date, it hasn’t derailed this team from its goals. Expect plenty of questions, and more noise, however.

Still, the on-court talent cannot be argued. This team rolled to the SEC Tournament title, not only beating 3 NCAA Tournament teams in Mississippi State, Missouri and Texas A&M, but topping each by 11 or more points. Solid offense, and suffocating defense was the name of the game in hoisting the trophy. That was the case all season, as ‘Bama limited teams to just 37.7% from the field, and 28.4% from behind the arc.

This team can beat anybody, and it showed in Houston Dec. 10, but it also has double-digit losses to UConn, Gonzaga and non-tournament team Oklahoma. Arizona and Baylor are better values, but Alabama has the talent to not only win the region, but to have “One Shining Moment/”

South Region long shots

CHARLESTON COUGARS (+7000)

Charleston found itself ranked in the Top 25 earlier this season. Back-to-back regular-season hiccups against Drexel and Hofstra knocked Charleston back a bit, but it also served as a wake-up call. This team enters the NCAA Tournament with 10 straight wins, and a CAA tournament title in tow.

Charleston topped fellow tournament team Kent State earlier in the season, and it can score with the best of them at 81.7 PPG during the regular season, ranking 13th in the nation, according to Covers.com. Defensively, the Cougars did a good job holding teams to just 31.4% from behind the arc. The strength of schedule is a bit of a question, and what likely dropped a 31-win team to a double-digit seed. But a Sweet Sixteen run wouldn’t be shocking, and then you never know what can happen. For a chance to multiply your initial wager by 70, CoC is worth a look.

NC STATE WOLFPACK (+5000)

The Wolfpack are one of those teams which would make a deep run into the NCAA Tournament, or could easily bow out in the 1st round. They’ve been hard to figure, but NC State certainly has the tools to be successful.

D.J. Burns Jr., Jarkel Joiner and Terquavion Smith are a solid 3-headed monster, with Casey Morsell capable of filling up the basket as well, especially from long range. Burns brings the swagger, and he is solid on the glass, which showing nice touch around the rim. Jack Clark is also a nice complementary piece.

The Wolfpack have enough talent to give Creighton, Baylor, and even Arizona, some trouble in the South Region. We’ve seen double-digit seeds go deep into the tourney in recent years, and NC State has a solid array of plays to make a lot of noise.
