Indiana at Penn State odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Indiana at Penn State odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Indiana Hoosiers (2-5, 0-4 Big Ten) travel to face the No. 10 Penn State Nittany Lions (6-1, 3-1) Saturday. Kickoff from Beaver Stadium is set for noon ET (CBS). Below, we analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Indiana vs. Penn State odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

Indiana has lost 3 consecutive games, the last being a 31-14 setback as a 6-point underdog vs. the Rutgers Scarlet Knights on Saturday. Coach Tom Allen said redshirt freshman QB Brendan Sorsby, who started in the loss to Rutgers, will starts vs. the Nittany Lions. He has completed 51.1% (45 of 88) of his passes for 420 yards, 3 TDs, and 0 INTs on the season.

Penn State was handed its 1st defeat of the season in Saturday’s 20-12 loss at  the Ohio State Buckeyes, failing to cover as a 4-point underdog. The Nittany Lions had their worst offensive showing of the year in the loss, only gaining 240 total yards of offense and converting on just 1 of 16 on 3rd downs.

Indiana at Penn State picks and predictions

Prediction

Penn State 42, Indiana 14

Moneyline

PASS.

The Nittany Lions will pick up the win here, but a -7000 favorite is never worth the risk of betting on. Bet on the spread and/or total instead.

Against the spread

LEAN INDIANA +32.5 (-110).

Penn State has yet to beat a Big Ten opponent by 31.5 points or more this season, and I’m not sure they’ll do it here. I like the Nittany Lions to dominate here, but I see the starters being pulled before the 4th quarter, which will make it difficult for Penn State to cover the margin. I expect Penn State to come out hot after the loss to Ohio State, but 32.5 points feels like a stretch here.

Over/Under

BET OVER 46.5 (-110).

Indiana has allowed its last 3 Big Ten opponents to put up 30-plus points; allowing 31 to Rutgers, 52 to Michigan, and 44 to Maryland. The Nittany Lions have scored at least 30 points in 6 of their 7 games, including in all of their wins. Penn State has a dominant defense that will force turnovers and provide great field position. Look for Penn State to carry the load scoring-wise, propelling this game to hit the Over number of 46.5.

Penn State at Ohio State odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Penn State at Ohio State odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Penn State Nittany Lions (6-0, 3-0 Big Ten) and the Ohio State Buckeyes (6-0, 3-0) meet Saturday at Ohio Stadium in Columbus. Kickoff is scheduled for noon ET (FOX). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Penn State vs. Ohio State odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

The Nittany Lions have not only won all 6 games to date, but Penn State has covered each outing, too. Penn State has registered 2 shutouts this season, blanking Iowa 31-0, while shutting out UMass 63-0 last Saturday.

The Penn State defense allows just 193.7 total yards per game, and 123.8 passing yards per game, each ranking No. 1 in the nation. PSU yielded just 69.8 rushing yards per game, too, while conceding just 8.0 points scored.

The Buckeyes topped Notre Dame 17-14 with a late-second touchdown on Sept. 23, while topping Maryland 37-17 at home in a battle of undefeated Big Ten teams on Oct. 7. Ohio State rolled to a 41-7 victory last Saturday over Purdue to cover a 17-point number on the road.

The Buckeyes have covered in consecutive games for the 1st time this season. Ohio State has cashed the Under in 3 in a row, and 5 of 6 games overall, while going 2-0 ATS against FBS opponents this season.

Penn State is No. 6 and Ohio State is No. 3 in the US LBM Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports.

Penn State at Ohio State picks and predictions

Prediction

Ohio State 26, Penn State 17

Moneyline

Ohio State (-190) will cost you nearly 2 times your potential return, and that’s just over my personal moneyline limit of -180 for a singular bet. If you were to toss this into a parlay with at least 4 or 5 teams, including the Buckeyes wouldn’t be the end of the world.

PASS.

Against the spread

OHIO STATE -4.5 (-110) is the lean in this titanic Big Ten battle.

The Buckeyes have been tested twice so far, once on the road against the Irish, and once at home against a solid Terps team.

I am not sold on the Penn State +4.5 (-110) schedule so far. Sure, it is unbeaten in the conference, but wins over Illinois, Iowa and Northwestern just isn’t terribly impressive, although the Nittany Lions easily took care of each. But Penn State’s toughest game is the opener against a marginal West Virginia team, so this game represents the biggest test.

If this were in Happy Valley, it might end differently, but Ohio State won 6 straight in the series, and it will make it 7 on Saturday.

Over/Under

UNDER 45.5 (-110) is a surprisingly high number with the defensive numbers each side has put up. It wouldn’t be surprising to see a total in the 30’s, in fact.

The good news is that the weather from Thursday and Friday will pull out, with temperatures in the mid-50’s and mostly cloudy conditions with a slight breeze. The defenses will both be red-hot, however.

UMass at Penn State odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s UMass at Penn State odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The UMass Minutemen (1-6) take a trip to Happy Valley to face the No. 5 Penn State Nittany Lions (5-0) Saturday. Kickoff from Beaver Stadium is set for 3:30 p.m. ET (Big Ten Network). Below, we analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the UMass vs. Penn State odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

Penn State, who was off last week, has won all of its 5 games by a minimum of 23 points and have only allowed 48 total points on the year. QB Drew Allar has shined to start his collegiate career, completing 64.5% (102 of 158) of his passes for 1,092 yards and 9 TDs with 0 INTs.

UMass suffered its 6th-consecutive loss on Saturday, 41-24 vs. the Toledo Rockets, but covering as a 19.5-point underdog. RB Kay’Ron Lynch-Adams ran for 157 yards and 1 TD on 20 carries. Lynch-Adams has now rushed for 661 yards and 6 TDs this  season while averaging 5.1 yards per carry.

Penn State is No. 5 in the US LBM Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports.

  • Against the spread (ATS): UMass +41.5 (-110) | Penn State -41.5 (-110)

UMass at Penn State picks and predictions

Prediction

Penn State 52, UMass 12

Moneyline

PASS.

The Nittany Lions will pick up the win here, but a -10000 favorite is not worth the risk of betting on. Bet on the spread and/or Over/Under instead.

Against the spread

BET UMASS +41.5 (-110).

The Nittany Lions have only beaten 1 of their 5 opponents by 41.5-points or more this season, and that came in a 63-7 victory vs. Delaware in Week 2. Penn State should have no trouble defeating the Minutemen and their very weak defense, but I’m not quite sold on them winning by this big of a margin as I expect the backups to play for a majority of the 2nd half.

Over/Under

LEAN OVER 54.5 (-110).

Expect the Nittany Lions to carve up this Minutemen defense that allows 453.9 yards per game, but the Nittany Lion defense only allows 210.6 yards per game and should limit UMass from scoring. I like Penn State to score at least 45 here which should help this game hit the Over even with the Minutemen having trouble on offense.

Penn State at Northwestern odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Penn State at Northwestern odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The No.7 Penn State Nittany Lions (4-0, 2-0 Big Ten) take a trip to Evanston, Ill., to play the Northwestern Wildcats (2-2, 1-1) on Saturday. Kickoff from Ryan Field is set for noon ET (Big Ten Network). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Penn State vs. Northwestern odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

The Nittany Lions shut out the formerly No. 22-ranked Iowa Hawkeyes 31-0 last Saturday. QB Drew Allar overcame poor weather conditions to complete 25 of 37 passes for 166 yards and 4 TDs. Penn State’s defense continued to show why it is one of the best squads in the nation, forcing 6 fumbles while also getting 3 sacks and 5 tackles for loss. It is allowing just 8.8 points per game (5th of 133).

Northwestern pulled off an improbable comeback to secure a 37-34 OT win Saturday vs. the Minnesota Golden Gophers, winning as an 11-point underdog. The Wildcats trailed 31-10 with 12 minutes left in the 4th quarter before scoring 21 unanswered points, including the game-tying TD pass by QB Ben Bryant with 2 seconds left in the game. Minnesota scored a field goal 1st in OT, but Bryant struck again with a 25-yard TD pass on Northwestern’s 1st play of OT to win it.

Penn State is No. 7 in the US LBM Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports.

Penn State at Northwestern picks and predictions

Prediction

Penn State 35, Northwestern 10

Moneyline

PASS.

Penn State will pick up the win here, but -10000 favorites are never worth the risk of betting on. Bet on the spread and/or total instead.

Against the spread

LEAN WILDCATS +27.5 (-115).

Northwestern has been competitive in past games vs. the Nittany Lions, even when outmatched. Penn State hasn’t beaten Northwestern by 27-plus points since 2002 when it won 49-0.

This play is only a lean because of how talented this Penn State team is and how dominant it has proven to be on the defensive side of the ball.

Over/Under

LEAN UNDER 45.5 (-105).

A matchup between the Nittany Lions and Wildcats hasn’t hit the Over number of 45.5 since 2012 when the Nittany Lions won 39-28, meaning thr Under has hit 4 straight in the series. The Nittany Lions defense is so good I expect the Wildcats to simply have too much trouble scoring to help push this game to hit the Over.

Iowa at Penn State odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Iowa at Penn State odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The No. 22 Iowa Hawkeyes (3-0, 0-0 Big Ten) take a trip to Happy Valley to play the No. 7 Penn State Nittany Lions (3-0, 1-0) Saturday in this year’s White Out Game. Kickoff from Beaver Stadium is set for 7:30 p.m. ET (CBS). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Iowa vs. Penn State odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

Iowa is undefeated, but only 1 of their wins was convincing. The Hawkeyes struggled in wins vs. Utah State (24-14) and Iowa State (20-13). Last week they blew out the Western Michigan Broncos 41-10 as 28.5-point home favorites. QB Cade McNamara has looked shaky thus far, completing 38 of his 71 passes (54%) for 417 yards, 4 TDs, and 3 INTs.

The Nittany Lions have cruised to 3 pretty convincing wins, but their offense  looked shaky despite covering as 13-point favorite in last week’s 30-13 win vs. the Illinois Fighting Illini. QB Drew Allar had the worst start of his young career, completing 16 of 33 passes for 208 yards. The Penn State defense has been dominant (11.7 points per game) and I expect that to continue when backed by the White Out crowd vs. Iowa.

Iowa at Penn State picks and predictions

Prediction

Penn State 32, Iowa 14

Moneyline

PASS.

The Nittany Lions are on a 3-game win streak in White Out Games, and I expect that streak to continue. But as a -650 favorite the line is not worth the juice. Bet on the spread and/or total instead.

Against the spread

LEAN PENN STATE -14.5 (-110).

I like the Nittany Lions to cover here as the deafening noise from the White Out crowd will make life very difficult on McNamara and the Iowa offense. Penn State’s defense has been stellar, having allowed 35 total points and no more than 15 points in any game, and I expect the Nittany Lions D to force turnovers that will help the offense generate points. Iowa has won the last 2 meetings with Penn State, but I expect that streak to come to end here.

Over/Under

BET OVER 40 (-110).

The Over number of 40 has been hit in 6 of the last 7 meetings between the Hawkeyes and Nittany Lions, and that should continue here. The Hawkeyes have struggled on offense, but Penn State should be able to carry this game to the Over. The Nittany Lions’ lowest scoring this season was 30 points, which makes me feel confident in their ability to put up points even if the offense isn’t firing on all cylinders.

Penn State at Illinois odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Penn State at Illinois odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The No. 7 Penn State Nittany Lions (2-0, 0-0 Big Ten) visit the Illinois Fighting Illini (1-1, 0-0) in a Big Ten matchup Saturday. Kickoff from Memorial Stadium in Champaign, Ill., is set for noon ET (FOX). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Penn State vs. Illinois odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

The Nittany Lions won 63-7 vs. Delaware last Saturday as they covered as 44-point favorites. QB Drew Allar continued his strong start to the season, completing 85% (22-of-26) of his passes for 204 yards and 1 TD before the starters were pulled. The defense and run game also impressed in the win as LB Dominici DeLuca returned an interception for a 26-yard touchdown and the Nittany Lions rumbled for 315 yards and 6 TDs on the ground.

The Fighting Illini are coming off a 34-23 loss vs. the Kansas Jayhawks last Saturday, failing to cover as 3.5-point underdogs. QB Luke Altmyer seemed to be the entire Illini offense in that loss as he completed 68% (19-of-28) of his passes for 202 yards, 1 TD, and 2 INTs and led the rushing attack with 70 rushing yards and 2 TDs on 13 carries.

Penn State at Illinois picks and predictions

Prediction

Penn State 35, Illinois 17

Moneyline

PASS.

Penn State should come away with the win, but as a (-600) favorite the moneyline is not worth the risk. Bet on the spread and/or total instead.

Against the spread

LEAN PENN STATE -14.5 (-110).

Penn State is clearly the more complete and talented team in this matchup, but they have struggled in recent meetings against Illinois on the road. The Nittany Lions are only 9-4 all-time in Champaign but just 3-2 in their last 5 there. Don’t be shocked if Illinois gives this Penn State team a battle, but I still lean towards Penn State to cover as this may be the most complete Penn State team in years.

Over/Under

BET OVER 48.5 (-110).

This Fighting Illini allowed 34 points, 277 passing yards and 262 rushing yards last week vs. Kansas, so the Nittany Lions should have their way. Illinois will not be able to stop the RB duo of Nick Singleton and Kaytron Allen from getting this Penn State offense going and even if it has an answer for the ground game, it’ll still have to worry about Allar who’s been a pinpoint passer so far this season.

West Virginia at Penn State odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s West Virginia at Penn State odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The West Virginia Mountaineers take a trip to Happy Valley to visit the Penn State Nittany Lions Saturday. Kickoff from Beaver Stadium is set for 7:30 p.m. ET (NBC). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the West Virginia vs. Penn State odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

Both teams enter this game with a lot of roster changes, particularly at the QB position, and neither team has publicly announced a starter. Former 5-star recruit sophomore QB Drew Allar is expected to be the starter for Penn State and junior Garrett Greene is projected to start for the Mountaineers.

Greene has seen limited playing time in his college career, but his best game came last season when leading his team to a 23-20 win vs. Oklahoma. He completed 12 of 22 passes for 138 yards and 1 TD, while also running for 119 yards and 2 TDs.

The biggest threats in the Mountaineers’ passing game are NC State transfer WR Devin Carter and freshman WR Rodney Gallagher III. Carter is a senior who posted 25 receptions for 406 yards and 2 TD’s last season.

Fans will get their 1st taste of a backfield with Allar and the RB duo of sophomores Nicholas Singleton and Kaytron Allen. The Nittany Lions did suffer a big blow with starting G Landon Tengwall announcing a medical retirement. While a big loss, Penn State’s offensive line depth this year is better than in recent seasons.

Penn State is No. 7 in the USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll.

West Virginia at Penn State picks and predictions

Prediction

Penn State 42, West Virginia 21

Moneyline

PASS.

Penn State should win this game but a (-1400) line is not worth the juice. Bet on the spread or Over/Under instead.

Against the spread

LEAN PENN STATE -20.5 (-110).

This is a very slight lean, as a 3-TD favorite is a risk, but Penn State has all the right tools to blow out West Virginia. This bet does rely heavily on how Allar will play in his 1st start, but based on his play as a backup last year, he’ll do just fine. Penn State’s high-powered offense will be too much for the Mountaineers. The Nittany Lions’ defense will also be pivotal in this game, as they are huge up front and have stars on all 3 levels.

Over/Under

BET OVER 49.5 (-110).

This will likely be the best Penn State offense in years, and I expect Allar, Singleton, and Allen to carve up the Mountaineers’ defense. Penn State has always been very good defensively, but I do expect the Mountaineers to put up a few TDs as well. The dual-threat ability of Greene will add a facet to this WVU offense that will lead to some scores.

March Madness: Penn State vs. Texas odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Penn State vs. Texas odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The 10-seed Penn State Nittany Lions (23-13) take on the 2-seed Texas Longhorns (27-8) Saturday in the 2nd round of the NCAA Tournament. Tip from Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, Iowa, is set for 7:45 p.m. ET (CBS). Let’s analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Penn State vs. Texas odds as we make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and best bets.

Penn State vs. Texas A&M picks and predictions

Prediction

Penn State 70, Texas A&M 69

Moneyline

BET PENN STATE +125.

The Nittany Lions are hot after a solid Big Ten Tournament performance, knocking off Illinois, Northwestern, and Indiana and coming within 1 possession of beating 1-seed Purdue. In each of the games, they were the underdog and managed to stick around until the end.

Penn State is 5-3 in neutral site games this season and an impressive 7-1 ATS in those games. They will have their work cut out for them against the Aggies, but they rank 13th in the nation in 3-point percentage (38.52%) so a few outside shots can keep them hanging around just long enough to get the upset.

PENN STATE +205.

Penn State has seemed to be wearing Cinderella’s slipper so far, defeating the 2, 3, and 7 seeds in this tournament. It is also hard to beat a good team 3 times in a season. Purdue does enter as the heavy favorite, but Penn State is worth taking a shot to double-up.

The Boilermakers are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 following an ATS win and 0-6 ATS in their last 6 vs. teams with a winning record.
