March Madness: TCU vs. Utah State odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s TCU vs. Utah State odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The TCU Horned Frogs (21-12) and Utah State Aggies (27-6) battle in a 1st-round Midwest Region game Friday in Indianapolis. Tip-off at Gainbridge Fieldhouse is slated for a 9:55 p.m. ET (CBS). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook‘s lines around the TCU vs. Utah State odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and best bets.

Ninth-seeded Texas Christian has been off since March 14 when the Horned Frogs fell 60-45 to current-No. 2 Houston in the Big 12 Tournament as an 11 1/2-point underdog. TCU has won just twice since Feb. 26 and scored just 15 points in the 1st half of the loss to Houston.

No. 8 seed Utah State, ranked No. 19 in the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll, won the regular-season title in the Mountain West Conference. The Aggies lost to San Diego State 86-70 as a 5-point underdog in the MWC Tournament last Friday. USU is just 1-4-1 against the spread (ATS) since Feb. 27.

TCU vs. Utah State picks and predictions

Prediction

TCU 76, Utah State 73

Moneyline

The lean with the points is on the underdog Aggies. Utah State is 1-19 straight up in its last 20 NCAA Tournament games, so let’s focus on USU plus the points. PASS.

Against the spread

The Aggies get a lot of near-proximity looks and are averaging 79.8 points per game. TCU is just 4-8 ATS against foes averaging 77-plus PPG.

Over the last 3 years, Utah State has gone 15-7 in neutral-site games.

The Frogs have been a strong team most of the year on the offensive glass,  but have faltered in that facet of the game of late. BartTorvik pegs USU’s defensive rebounding rate as a solid 39th in the nation. TCU also likes to leverage turnovers, and the Aggies typically have solid handles on the ball.

Expect the Aggies to force the issue inside and get to the foul line with good frequency. This line has drifted toward TCU and is ripe for some buy-back.

FanDuel Sportsbook is offering a better cushion for USU bettors. TAKE UTAH STATE +4.5 (-120).

Over/Under

These teams play fast, but the total is up there reflecting perhaps a bit too much regular-season ball.

The matchup takes the edge off a couple point-spiral factors. Both teams are loaded with veteran experience, and shading this one in the 140s is the recommendation.

Consider a partial-unit play on the UNDER 150.5 (-105).

West Virginia at TCU odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s West Virginia at TCU odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The West Virginia Mountaineers (3-1, 1-0 Big 12) and the TCU Horned Frogs (3-1, 1-0) meet Saturday at Amon G. Carter Stadium in Fort Worth. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET (ESPN2). Below, we analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the West Virginia vs. TCU odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

The Mountaineers look to push their conference record to 2-0 after earning a 20-13 win over Texas Tech last weekend at Milan Puskar Stadium, cashing as a 6.5-point underdogs. West Virginia has cashed 3 in a row since dropping the opener 38-15 at Penn State.

The defense has been much better for the Mountaineers lately, too, allowing a total of just 36 points in 3 wins over Duquesne, Pitt and TTU, hitting the Under in each of the 2 games against FBS foes during that span.

TCU welcomed Houston to the Big 12 with a 36-13 win on the road, covering a 7-point number, and it doubled up SMU last weekend at home by a 34-17 score to comfortably cash a 6.5-point number. After a narrow 45-42 loss to Colorado in Week 1, which suddenly doesn’t look so bad, TCU has won 3 in a row, covering the past 2 against FBS opponents.

Like West Virginia, defense has been a big part of the turnaround for TCU. The Horned Frogs were gouged for 45 in the opener vs. Colorado, but it has allowed just 36 total points in the past 3 games, cashing the Under in each contest.

  • Against the spread (ATS): West Virginia +13.5 (-104) | TCU -13.5 (-128)
  • Over/Under (O/U): 51.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

West Virginia at TCU picks and predictions

Prediction

TCU 25, West Virginia 16

Moneyline

TCU (-630) will cost you more than 6 times your potential return, and that’s just a ridiculous amount of risk for not nearly enough reward. Even including TCU in a multi-team parlay isn’t a great idea, as it would suck all of the value out of your ticket.

PASS.

Against the spread

WEST VIRGINIA +13.5 (-104) is a solid play here, as the offense has been able to do just enough, and the defense has been nasty. TCU -13.5 (-128) isn’t likely to roll up very big totals, while also holding down the opposition with its tremendous defense.

This will be a good old-fashioned slugfest, with the Mountaineers keeping it within a pair of TDs.

Over/Under

UNDER 51.5 (-110) is the best play on the board, and really, it isn’t even close.

The Mountaineers have managed to average just 17.3 points per game (PPG) on offense in 3 games against FBS opponents, with the outlier being a 56-point explosion against Duquesne of the FCS. On defense, the Mountaineers have yielded just 19 total points in a pair of wins over Texas Tech and Pitt the past 2 weekends.

For TCU, after getting pounded by Colorado for 45 points in the opener, the Horned Frogs have coughed up just 36 total points in the past 3 games, cashing the Under in each contest. It’s offense is a bit more explosive than West Virginia, but it will also have difficulty solving the yellow crush defense.

TCU at Houston odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s TCU at Houston odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The TCU Horned Frogs (1-1) square off against the Houston Cougars (1-1) on Saturday at TDECU Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET (FOX). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the TCU vs. Houston odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

TCU defeated Nicholls State 41-6 in Week 2, failing to cover as 42-point home favorites. The Under of 59 points also cashed in the contest. TCU lost 45-42 to Colorado in their season opener.

Houston lost in a shootout against Rice 43-41 in Week 2 despite entering as 7-point road favorites. The Over of 51.5 easily hit with both teams nearly hitting the Over themselves. It was QB Donovan Smith who tried to lead an impressive comeback for the Cougars after going down 28-0 to Rice.

TCU at Houston picks and predictions

Prediction

TCU 38, Houston 24

Moneyline

The Horned Frogs are favored against a Big 12 newcomer in the Cougars, but I’ll PASS on the moneyline. Taking a team at -300 odds isn’t worth the risk given the return you’ll receive if TCU wins.

Against the spread

BET TCU -7.5 (-110).

Even though the Horned Frogs lost to Colorado in Week 1, they bounced back with a lopsided win against an inferior opponent in Week 2. Meanwhile, Houston narrowly escaped with a win over UTSA in its season opener and lost to Rice last week.

While the Horned Frogs are 0-2 ATS to begin the season, this is the best team the Cougars have faced thus far by a wide margin.

Over/Under

UNDER 64.5 (-115) is the play as neither team has been consistent to begin the season. TCU’s offense has been solid in the 1st 2 weeks, but Houston managed to score only 17 points in Week 1 before exploding for 41 points against Rice in Week 2.

Colorado at TCU odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Colorado at TCU odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Colorado Buffaloes and TCU Horned Frogs open their regular seasons at Amon G. Carter Stadium Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for noon ET (FOX). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Colorado vs. TCU odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

Colorado has been making national headlines since bringing in coach Deion Sanders in December 2022. Sanders comes in to revitalize a Buffaloes team that went just 1-11 straight up and 2-10 against the spread (ATS) in 2022. While bringing in Coach Prime has certainly helped recruiting, Colorado’s regular season wins total sits at Over 3.5 (+105) / Under 3.5 (-125).

TCU is coming off a 65-7 loss as a 13.5-point underdog vs. the Georgia Bulldogs in the National Championship Game on Jan. 9. Sophomore QB Chandler Morris has earned the starting job for the Horned Frogs this season and was originally the starter in 2022 before getting hurt in the opener at Colorado. TCU’s regular season wins total sits at Over 7.5 (-135) / Under 7.5 (+110), despite coming off a 12-0 regular season (9-2-1 ATS).

TCU is No. 16 in the USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll.

Colorado at TCU picks and predictions

Prediction

TCU 41, Colorado 10

Moneyline

TCU (-1000) is actually one of the better lines you will find on the Horned Frogs in the market. However, most people are not comfortable laying $1,000 to win $100.

PASS. Lay the points and/or bet the total instead.

Against the spread

The last time we saw TCU, it was getting blown out by Georgia in the National Championship Game. Meanwhile, Colorado has been receiving a ton of positive press for hiring Coach Prime and going all-in on recruiting.

It will take Sanders time to turn around this program, and I believe TCU is being slightly undervalued vs. this Buffaloes team that went just 1-11 straight up last season.

BET TCU -20.5 (-110).

Over/Under

The total in this game has jumped all over the place since the opener. We saw early money coming in on the Under, dropping it to as low as 59 at some books, while the Over money in recent weeks has pushed it back up above its original number of 62. While TCU is definitely capable of putting up a lot of points, I don’t trust Colorado to contribute in any significant way.

BET UNDER 63.5 (-110).

March Madness: TCU vs. Gonzaga odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s TCU vs. Gonzaga odds and lines, with expert college basketball picks, predictions and best bets.

The 6th-seeded TCU Horned Frogs (22-12) and No. 3 Gonzaga Bulldogs (29-5) meet Sunday in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The West Region contest at Ball Arena in Denver is slated to tip off at 9:40 p.m. ET (TBS). Let’s analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the TCU vs. Gonzaga odds as we make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and best bets.

TCU defeated Arizona State 72-70 Friday. The Frogs are looking to win back-to-back games for just the 2nd time since Jan. 24. They shot 35.5% from the floor Friday and have shot just 37.3% over their last 4 games — well below their season average of 45.37% (127th).

Gonzaga is No. 9 in the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll. The Bulldogs shot and rebounded their way to an 82-70 win over Grand Canyon Friday, hitting 53.6% from the field and going plus-16 in rebound margin (38-22). The Bulldogs enter on a 10-game win streak.

Against the spread

TCU’s defense, particularly on the perimeter, will be key against a Bulldogs five hitting 38.9% of its looks from beyond the arc (9th). The Frogs have held foes to a 30.8% mark (32nd). TCU gets a lot of looks in close on offense. Peg the Frogs as possibly keeping this game close down to the wire.

No lean. PASS.

Over/Under

The Under is 4-1 across TCU’s last 5 games and 4-1-1 in its last 6 neutral-site games. It’s also 3-0 in Gonzaga’s last 3 games and 4-1 in its last 5 neutral-site games.

Pace figures point to a high-scoring affair, but this total is a shade too aggressive. The Bulldogs are a great shooting team, but some regression in their numbers could well come due against a TCU defense that has been quite good since mid-season.

The lean is slim toward a partial-unit play on the UNDER 156.5 (-112).

The 11th-seeded Arizona State Sun Devils (23-12) meet the No. 6 TCU Horned Frogs (21-12) Friday in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The West Region contest at Ball Arena in Denver will tip off at 10:05 p.m. ET (truTV). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Arizona State vs. TCU odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and bets.

Arizona State struggled down the stretch in the regular season, but the Sun Devils won a couple of Pac-12 Tournament games and then drubbed Nevada 98-73 in a First Four game Wednesday. After going 5-8 with some shooting woes from Jan. 19-March 4, ASU is 3-1 over its last 4 games.

Nationally ranked No. 23 TCU made its bones over the first half of the season. The Horned Frogs went 13-1 out of the gate but are just 8-11 since. TCU does do a decent job getting to the line and rebounding, and despite being a dreadful team from distance (30.6%, 331st), the Frogs have the better offense and are a slim favorite in this 11-6 matchup.

TCU is a lean here but only a profitable one up to about -225, and even then only for much bigger bankrolls.

PASS.

Against the spread

The Sun Devils are 1-7 ATS in their last 8 games following an ATS win.

Look for TCU to get its points in the paint, rebound its way to extended possessions and get more looks at the foul line. Look for that to add up into 3-possession territory.

Consider a partial-unit play on the HORNED FROGS -5.5 (-110).

Over/Under

The Under is 6-1 in ASU’s last 7 games after scoring more than 90 points in its previous game and 4-0 in TCU’s last 4 games against teams playing .600 ball.

Look for an above-average pace to this game but not a lot of bonus points from distance. Both defenses are efficient, and in the neutral venue with its different shooting background, the UNDER 142.5 (-115) is worth a partial-unit play.

Big 12 Tournament: TCU vs. Kansas State odds, picks and predictions

TCU and Kansas State both earned 1st-round byes as the Horned Frogs come in as the No. 6 seed and the Wildcats the No. 3 seed. In the 2 regular season matchups, the home team won by double digits and covered. The total was 1-1 O/U.

The Horned Frogs were just 3-6 straight up over their last 9 games and 2-7 against the spread (ATS) over that span. They are coming off a 74-60 loss at Oklahoma March 4, failing to cover as a 2-point favorite.

The Wildcats, on the other hand, lost to West Virginia 89-81 March 4, failing to cover as a 5-point road underdog. Kansas State went 4-1 ATS on its last 5 games. It was 20-11 ATS on the season.

TCU vs. Kansas State picks and predictions

Prediction

Kansas State 73, TCU 70

Moneyline

PASS.

While Kansas State (+110) may look enticing, the spread here is the way to go for the better value, especially considering how close conference tournament games can be.

This is a fine play, but I’d prefer getting a couple of points here.

Against the spread

BET KANSAS STATE +1.5 (-105).

The Wildcats have thrived in this position as they are 12-6 ATS in conference games, the best covering percentage in the Big 12. Both teams are 5-6 ATS on the road as well, so this situation isn’t one either has consistently covered in.

The Cats also ended their season on a good note, covering 4 of their last 5 and beating both Iowa State and Baylor straight up. TCU has struggled as of late, failing to cover 7 of its last 9. It also had a 21-point loss to Kansas State on Feb. 7, the two programs’ most recent matchup.

Put it all together and back KANSAS STATE +1.5 (-105).

Over/Under

LEAN UNDER 148.5 (-115).

Both teams have consistently been better at hitting the Under lately. Kansas State is 3-6 O/U in its last 9 games while TCU is 2-6 O/U in its last 8 games.

Both teams also rank in the top 50 in opponents’ 3-point field goal percentage. The limited opportunities there should keep the total relatively low. The programs are a combined 18-18 O/U in conference games as well.

For a smaller unit, back the UNDER 148.5 (-115).

Texas at TCU odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Texas at TCU odds and lines, with expert college basketball picks, predictions and best bets.

The No. 7 Texas Longhorns (22-7, 11-5 Big-12) look to finish the season on a high note against the No. 22 TCU Horned Frogs (19-10, 8-8) in Fort Worth on Wednesday at 9 p.m. ET (ESPN2). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Texas vs. TCU odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and bets.

Rankings courtesy of the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll.

Despite its lofty ranking, Texas has been a different team on the road this season with a 4-5 record. This will be a rematch of a game which the Longhorns won 79-75 in Austin on Jan. 11. TCU did cover as 6.5-point road underdogs as the 141.5 Over hit.

Texas is coming off an 81-72 loss at Baylor on Saturday, failing to cover as 4.5-point road underdogs while TCU won at Texas Tech 83-82 on Saturday.

Texas at TCU picks and predictions

Prediction

Texas 77, TCU 75

Moneyline

TEXAS +130.

Texas needs a win at TCU to have a chance to play for a share of the conference title against Kansas on Saturday. While the Longhorns have struggled on the road, TCU has been beatable at home and has 4 home losses.

Coming in after an 81-72 loss at Baylor, Texas will be ready to compete in this game. And by compete, I mean win. And +130 is excellent value here.

Stream select live college basketball games and full replays: Get ESPN+

Against the spread

PASS.

Texas has been a good team at recovering after a loss. It has covered the spread in 6 of its last 7 following a straight up loss and 4 of 5 after an ATS loss.

With this line only being 2.5 and with Texas being the underdog, the likelihood of Texas covering but not winning is slim. I like the Longhorns to win and so I would rather save the juice and wager them on the moneyline.

Over/Under

OVER 149.5 (-115).

Texas is 4-0 to the Over in its last 4 Wednesday games while TCU is 4-1 to the Over in its last 5 against a team with a winning record.

The 1st meeting this season went Over the 141.5 total and also would have gone Over the 149.5 total offered here.

Both teams can score and are looking to get ready for March. This will be a fast paced Big-12 game and both teams could get to 80 in this matchup. The 149.5 line is high, but not high enough to make me shy away from taking the Over.

TCU at Iowa State odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s TCU at Iowa State odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The No. 24 TCU Horned Frogs (17-8, 6-6 Big-12) square off with the No. 18 Iowa State Cyclones (16-8, 7-5) Wednesday. Tip-off at James H. Hilton Coliseum is at 9 p.m. ET (ESPNU). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the TCU vs. Iowa State odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and bets.

Rankings courtesy of the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll.

TCU will be looking to get revenge on Iowa State for a 69-67 defeat on Jan. 7. The Horned Frogs were topped on their home court despite being favored by 5.5 points as the Cyclones recorded 1 of their 2 road wins this season.

Both teams have been far different at home than on the road. TCU is 3-5 on the road (11-3 at home) and Iowa State is 12-1 at home (2-6 on the road).

TCU lost 72-68 as a 2-point underdog to Baylor Saturday; Iowa State comes in off a 64-56 road loss to Oklahoma State Saturday despite being a 7-point favorite.

Both teams have found victories difficult to come by in Big-12 action after opening the season strong in non-conference play. Despite that, this game will go a long way toward momentum entering March — especially if TCU can garner its 4th road win of the season against a top-20 team.

TCU at Iowa State picks and predictions

Prediction

Iowa State 65, TCU 63

Moneyline

PASS.

Iowa State (-190) has performed well at home this season and a match with TCU should be no different. However, while this line is okay to add to a parlay it is not suitable for a straight wager.

Stream select live college basketball games and full replays: Get ESPN+

Against the spread

BET TCU +3.5 (-105).

Iowa State, despite its good play at home, has been uneven in recent outings and TCU will have revenge on its mind after losing to the Cyclones on its home floor.

Iowa State is 1-6 ATS in its last 7 games and is also 1-6 ATS in its last 7 against teams with a winning record. TCU is 9-1 ATS in its last 10 Wednesday games and the underdog has covered in the last 5 meetings in this series. The Horned Frogs will be able to stay inside this number.

Over/Under

Take the UNDER 134.5 (-105)

This game will be a low-scoring mesh of solid defense and bad shooting. Iowa State has the 17th-ranked scoring defense at 61.8 points allowed per game and the TCU offense only ranks 72nd with 76.2 points per game. On the road in Ames, the Horned Frogs will find getting to this number difficult.

TCU allows 66.8 points and will also find holding the 210th-ranked offense of Iowa State (70.1 points) less of a challenge than recent opponents it has faced. With both offenses struggling against solid defenses, the UNDER 134.5 (-105) is the way to go.
