10 players for Packers fans to monitor on East roster during Shrine Bowl week

Ten players to watch from the East’s roster during East-West Shrine Bowl week.

The East-West Shrine Bowl practices start on Saturday with the game scheduled to take place on Thursday, January 30th at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Zach Tom, Edgerrin Cooper, Jon Runayn Jr, Samori Toure, Ka’Dar Hollman, James Looney and Hunter Bradley are all draft picks who played in the Shrine Bowl that Brian Gutekunst has selected.

Let’s take a look at 10 players from the East roster who could be potential targets for the Green Bay Packers during the 2025 NFL Draft.

With the Packers having assistant coaches in charge of the offensive line group and linebacker group for the East roster, there won’t be any linebackers or offensive linemen on this list.

Mello Dotson, CB, Kansas

Dotson plays the ball like a wide receiver and finished the past two seasons with four interceptions and 18 pass deflections. He shows good route recognition and has the reactionary quickness to disrupt the catch point.

Fadil Diggs, Edge, Syracuse

Diggs looks like he was sent from central casting. He checks in at 6-5 and 260 pounds. A Texas A&M transfer, Diggs recorded 14 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks and 42 pressures.

Tyler Baron, Edge, Miami

A transfer from Tennessee, Baron recorded 11 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks during his lone season in Miami. Baron owns an NFL frame, standing at 6-5 and weighing in at 260 pounds. He has a good blend of speed and power.

Warren Brinson, DT, Georgia

Brinson is stout run defender. He’s powerful at the point of attack and has the power to reset the line of scrimmage and stays balanced through contact.

O’Donnell Fortune, CB, South Carolina

Fortune is a feisty cornerback with plus ball skills, who recorded seven interceptions over the past three seasons for the Gamecocks. Fortune got the call up from the Hula Bowl to compete down in Texas this week.

Nick Nash, WR, San Jose State

A former quarterback, Nash looks like a natural at wide receiver. He finished this past season as the FBS leader in receptions (104), receiving yards (1,382) and receiving touchdowns (16).

Jaydon Blue, RB, Texas

The Texas running back has home run speed and is shifty in space to make defenders whiff. According to Pro Football Focus, Blue finished this past season with 517 yards after contact and forced 37 missed tackles.

Johnny Walker Jr, Edge, Missouri

The Missouri edge rusher finished this past season with 12.5 tackles for loss and 9.5 sacks. He takes strong angles to the quarterback and has physical hands.

Nazir Stackhouse, DT, Georgia

Stackhouse is a brick house. The Georgia defensive tackle can be hard to uproot and eats up double teams for the Bulldogs. Stackhouse controls his gap and could be a potential replacement for TJ Slaton.

Mitchell Evans, TE, Notre Dame

Standing at 6-5, Evans looks the part. Over the past two seasons, the Notre Dame tight end has hauled in 72 receptions for 843 yards and four touchdowns.

Georgia DL Warren Brinson makes NFL draft decision

Warren Brinson declares for the 2025 NFL draft, thanks UGA via social media

Georgia Bulldogs senior defensive lineman Warren Brinson is declaring for the 2025 NFL draft. Brinson announced his decision in a post via socia media.

Brinson thanked his family, football coaches, teammates and Georgia fans in a lengthy statement on his decision to declare for the draft.

“My college football career  has come to an end, but now there’s a new lifelong dream to pursue. With that being said, I am excited to announce that I will be officially entering the 2025 NFL draft,” Brinson said. “I look forward to carrying the lessons I’ve learned at Georgia into this next chapter and making everyone who has supported me proud. The best is yet to come!”

Brinson started his Georgia career in 2020 after being a four-star recruit out of IMG Academy. Brinson played immediately as a freshman and used his extra year of COVID-19 eligibility in 2024, so he really could not have returned in 2025.

Brinson played in 59 games in his Georgia career. He recorded 71 total tackles, six sacks and 14 tackles for a loss in his five year UGA career. Brinson posted a career-best 26 tackles, six tackles for a loss and two sacks in 2024.

The 6-foot-4, 310-pound defensive tackle is projected as a late NFL draft pick or an undrafted free agent. Regardless of his draft status, Brinson will be a tough part of the UGA defensive line to replace.

The 2025 NFL draft will be held at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin, from April 24-26.

Georgia draft prospects for Packers fans to watch during College Football Playoff

Georgia draft prospects for Packers fans to watch during College Football Playoff

Since 2021, Brian Gutekunst has selected four Georgia Bulldogs, with all four picks coming on the defensive side of the ball. The Bulldogs once again have a ton of talent on the defensive side of the ball that could keep the Georgia to Green Bay pipeline churning. They also have some offensive linemen who could be targets for the Packers as they look for depth up front.

The top prospects for Georgia include safety Malaki Starks, edge rusher Mykel Williams and hybrid defensive star, Jalon Walker. All three players figure to be off the board by the time Green Bay is on the clock. Let’s look at the rest of the Bulldogs that could be on Green Bay’s radar for the 2025 NFL Draft.

Daylen Everette, CB

Everette is light-footed and stays locked into the hip of the wide receiver. He shows good route awareness and uses his length to tighten windows. He shows a willingness in run support, although he will have to clean up his technique (13 missed tackles this season).

Jared Wilson, C

The starting center for the Bulldogs anchors well in pass sets and has patient, powerful hands. During his first season as a full-time starter, Wilson has given up zero sacks and five pressures.

Nazir Stackhouse, DT

Stackhouse is a brick house. The Georgia defensive tackle can be hard to uproot and eats up double teams for the Bulldogs. While he offers little to nothing as an interior pass rusher, Stackhouse controls his gap and could step in immediately and help an NFL team’s run defense.

Warren Brinson, DT

Brinson is another stout run defender. He’s powerful at the point of attack and over the past five games, Brinson has recorded 13 run stops 4.5 tackles for loss. He has the power to reset the line of scrimmage and stays balanced through contact.

Xavier Truss, OL

Georgia’s starting right tackle has started games at left tackle and both guard spots during his time in Athens. Truss paves the way as a run blocker and has good range. The versatile offensive linemen could be a Day 3 target for the Packers as they look for depth along the offensive line.

Smael Mondon Jr, LB

Mondon has excellent change of direction skills to excel in coverage. He’s a rangy athlete to make plays sideline-to-sideline. He’s a reliable open field tackler, with eight missed tackles over the past two seasons. During his time at Georgia, Mondon has logged 416 snaps on special teams.

Three Georgia players to watch in the Sugar Bowl

Three key Georgia players to watch out for against Notre Dame in the Sugar Bowl

The No. 2 seed Georgia Bulldogs are playing the No. 7 seed Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the Sugar Bowl.

The Sugar Bowl will played in New Orleans, Louisiana, on Jan. 1 at 8:45 p.m. ET as part of the College Football Playoff quarterfinals).

Here are the three Georgia players to watch for against Notre Dame.

Quarterback Gunner Stockton

All eyes will be on Gunner Stockton in the Sugar Bowl. In the SEC championship, Stockton had a lot of good moments and showed his competitiveness. Stockton is not scared of the moment and seizes every opportunity in front of him. With the Georgia offense now being catered towards him, there will be an even more confident Gunner and a team that is ready to step up for him.

Warren Brinson played the game of his life in the SEC championship accounting for a sack and two and half tackles for loss. Brinson will be a huge  part into shutting down the Notre Dame’s dynamic 10th rated rushing offense and running back Jeremiyah Love. If Brinson plays like how he did in the Texas game, then he will be moving up NFL draft boards and help the Bulldogs to advance to the next round in the playoff.

Running Back Trevor Etienne

Trevor Etienne will be relied upon to shoulder some burden away from Gunner and to make some plays happen early in this game. Etienne had a rib injury that stooped him from being 100% but now with the three weeks off he is the closest to 100% since the Texas matchup in Austin. Etienne is one of the most talented players on this offense so expect him to have the ball in his hands.

In a game where Stockton thought he was not going to play, he stepped up in the most important game of his career. Stockton was taking what the defense gave him through going 12 of 16 with 71 yards.

He added a rushing dynamic that helped the UGA offense. In the first possession after halftime, he helped dissect Texas’ defense to take the 10-6 lead. In late fourth quarter, he threw a costly interception that turned into a Texas field goal to send the game into overtime. In overtime, he was decisive and showed off his toughness after taking a huge hit from Texas safety Andrew Mukuba.

Trevor Etienne’s injury status was up in the air due a rib injury. Carson Beck left the game with an upper body injury, then Etienne stepped up to aid the comeback.  He became the focal point of the offense gaining over 100 total yards and scoring the only two touchdowns for the Georgia offense including the game-winning touchdown in overtime to crown the Bulldogs SEC champions.

“This why you come to Georgia,” Etienne said during his postgame interview. Etienne transferred from the Florida Gators to Georgia during last offseason.

Daylen Everette has faced an insane amount of adversity during his time at Georgia. He was picked on last season, but was the shut down corner in the SEC championship. He had two interceptions against a very experienced quarterback in Quinn Ewers. Everette has been progressively been getting better this season and played his two best games versus Texas.

Entire front seven

The Georgia front seven made their mark all game. In the previous matchup, they had seven sacks and 10 tackles for loss. In the SEC title game, they accounted for six sacks and 15 tackles for loss against Texas offensive lineman.

The most talented player in this front seven, junior defensive lineman Mykel Williams, played out of his mind with two sacks and two tackles for loss. Another player that showed up big time was senior defensive lineman Warren Brinson with a sack and 2.5 tackles for loss.

Georgia Bulldogs senior defensive tackle Warren Brinson is returning for another season in Athens, Georgia. The 6-foot-4, 305-pound defensive tackle was Georgia’s highest-graded defensive lineman according to Pro Football Focus.

Brinson finished the 2023 college football season with 21 total tackles and two sacks. Brinson joins several other Bulldogs in opting to return to school instead of entering the NFL draft. Georgia is the way-too-early preseason favorite for the 2024 college football season.

Georgia’s defensive front should be formidable in 2024. The Bulldogs are projected to return Nazir Stackhouse, Jordan Hall, Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins, Christen Miller, Mykel Williams, and more along the defensive line.
