Social media thrilled: Nazir Stackhouse announces UGA return

Georgia Bulldogs senior defensive tackle Nazir Stackhouse is returning for a fifth season at UGA

Georgia Bulldogs senior defensive tackle Nazir Stackhouse is returning for another season. Stackhouse elected to return to Georgia instead of entering the 2024 NFL draft.

Stackhouse’s return provides a big boost to the Georgia run defense in 2024. The Bulldogs are already returning a number of key pieces on defense next season, but they needed a top defensive tackle such as Stackhouse to return.

The 6-foot-3, 320-pound defensive tackle recorded 24 tackles, two sacks and one memorable interception during the 2023 college football season. Stackhouse will be one of the leaders of Georgia’s defense next season as the Bulldogs look to return to the College Football Playoff and win a national championship.

Stackhouse is projected to start at defensive tackle for Georgia in 2024. Georgia Bulldog fans are thrilled Stackhouse is returning for another season in Athens!

The Scouting Notebook will feature prospects to keep an eye on throughout the day. While some may think it’s too early to start talking about the 2024 NFL draft, there’s never a bad time to talk about the future of the Chargers.

With that being said, here are a handful of prospects to watch for in Week 3.

Georgia’s Nazir Stackhouse rated as top DT prospect in 2024 NFL draft

UGA senior Nazir Stackhouse listed at the top of draft-eligible defensive tackles

This season, Georgia has the challenge of replacing a generational talent in defensive lineman Jalen Carter, who was the No. 9 overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft.

Among those tasked with making up for the lost production is junior defensive lineman Nazir Stackhouse, who is projected as one of the top defensive tackle prospects in the 2024 NFL draft, per Pro Football Focus’ Connor Rodgers.

Stackhouse had a solid year for the back-to-back national champions last season. He racked up 33 tackles, three tackles for loss, 14 quarterback hurries and one blocked kick.

The 6-foot-3, 330-pound Stone Mountain, Ga., native has plenty of talent around him to take up the opposing offensive line’s attention.

Seniors Warren Brinson and Zion Logue will lead the charge, along with rotational support from redshirt sophomores Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins and Justin Jefferson. Redshirt freshman Christen Miller is on track to see playing time this fall.

The Bulldogs also added two physically imposing defensive lineman in the 2023 recruiting class in Jamaal Jarrett and Jordan Hall.

Nazir Stackhouse says NFL teams will be proven wrong if they pass on Jalen Carter

Nazir Stackhouse says that any team that passes on Jalen Carter in the draft will be proven wrong

Georgia defensive tackle Jalen Carter’s troubled offseason has been one of the main storylines as we head into the final weeks before the NFL draft.

Because of that, Carter, who was once considered a candidate to be taken No. 1 overall, may slide outside of the top-five in the 2023 draft.

Georgia defensive tackle Nazir Stackhouse, a former teammate of Carter’s, explained why it would not be the best idea to pass on Carter:

“Any team that passes up on Jalen, he’s just going to prove them different and prove them wrong,” said Stackhouse.

“Wherever he goes, he’s going to go out there and he’s going to be Jalen Carter like he was at the University of Georgia.”

Carter is widely considered the best prospect in the upcoming draft despite his negative media attention this offseason. However, that does not necessarily mean that NFL teams will be willing to take a chance on him so early on. Even after everything that’s happened, Mel Kiper’s Top 25 big board for the 2023 NFL draft still featured Carter ranked as the No. 1 overall player, where he’s been since December.
