The 22nd annual Elite 11 quarterback competition began Monday and Georgia football commit Brock Vandagriff looks the part so far.
On Monday, 20 of the top- high school quarterbacks in the nation arrived in Nashville for the first day of competition at the 22nd annual Elite 11 finals.
Among those competing is Georgia football commit Brock Vandagriff, a 5-star quarterback from Bogart, Georgia. Vandagriff is rated as the No. 2 dual-threat quarterback in the 2021 recruiting class.
247Sports spoke with Elite 11 head coach Trent Dilfer about his thoughts after day one and it seems Vandagriff is matching the high expectations so far.
“Vandagriff is awesome,” Dilfer stated. “He’s another one of those kids that makes everything look easy. His tape matches what you see in person. It’s impossible not to put the other stuff out of your mind when you’re watching him, he plays six weeks after he shatters his ankle with screws in his ankle and scores six touchdowns. He’s not a camp guy, you can see he’s a football player at a camp. He’s consistent.”
Vandagriff isn’t the only Georgia quarterback in Nashville. Wake Forest transfer quarterback Jamie Newman is also representing the Bulldogs as a counselor.
Notable former UGA quarterbacks that have participated in the competition are D.J. Shockley, Matthew Stafford, Aaron Murray, Jacob Eason and Jake Fromm – not a bad list to follow if you’re Vandagriff.
Will Notre Dame be playing schedule games in NFL venues in 2020? Brian Kelly spoke to Mike Tirico about potentially changing that Tuesday.
For playing a plenty respectable schedule in 2020, Notre Dame has a very kind set of games in terms of where they’re played.
Sure they have to play Wisconsin who is almost always in the top 15, but they get them at Lambeau Field, home of the Green Bay Packers instead of at Camp Randall in Madison.
Wake Forest doesn’t present the most difficult of places to play but the Irish are slated to play the Demon Deacons in Charlotte, home to the NFL’s Carolina Panthers instead.
And the meeting with Georgia Tech on Masters weekend is currently set to be played in the Atlanta Falcons stadium, not on Georgia Tech’s campus.
That only helps things for Notre Dame in terms of the of the likelihood of a victory in each of those games by not having to go play a true road game.
But it all might be changing according to Brian Kelly, who spoke on Mike Tirico’s new show on NBCSN Tuesday.
Brian Kelly, on Mike Tirico’s show, says that Notre Dame is exploring moving games from NFL stadiums back on campus.
He references games against Wisconsin, Wake Forest, Georgia Tech and Pittsburgh.

The one thing worth mentioning there is that Pitt does not have a stadium on their campus as they play at Heinz Field, home of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Wisconsin would then come to Notre Dame Stadium as well since it is technically a Notre Dame home game in the Shamrock Series.
I can’t at all get upset about any of it. One, the Badgers having to come to Notre Dame Stadium, even if the crowd is nowhere near capacity only does Notre Dame favors.
College football is made to be played on campus, though. I know some of those in Georgia and Florida or Oklahoma and Texas will discuss how great their rivalries are when they’re played annually on neutral fields, but is there anything better than a football Saturday in the fall on your favorite college campus?
As cool as it is for teenagers to get to play in NFL venues and as much as Notre Dame promotes doing so, there is nothing like college football being played on campus and not in neutral or watered down professional stadiums.
Some might get upset because Notre Dame doesn’t play as many games in NFL venues but to me, this would be more how college football is meant to be played.

Obviously, no one knows what’s going to happen to the 2020 college football season. We’ll take a general look at where each team stands – doing it without spring ball to go by – while crossing our fingers that we’ll all have some well-deserved fun this fall. Hoping you and yours are safe and healthy.
– The Demon Deacon attack was a blast for most of the season, but it fizzled at odd times. Even so, the O led the ACC in third down conversions, was second in passing offense, and was 15th in the nation in total yards per game.
And now it’s going to have to do it all with QB Jamie Newman off being a Georgia Bulldog. That’s okay – sophomore Sam Hartman showed in 2018 that he can handle the work, and now he’s in his third year in the system. He has to be great, though, with only freshmen as the backups.

– Just when it looked like Sage Surratt was going to make a push to be the nation’s best receiver, he went down with a shoulder injury. He’s back, but the rest of the top pass catchers have to be replaced. 6-2, 200-pound redshirt freshman Donavon Greene is the second-leading returning receiver with 13 catches, but the offense helps make the receivers shine. This is a very big group – lots of 6-2 targets – that should shine around Surratt.
– The ground game wasn’t just along for the ride – it more than carried its weight. However, leading rusher Cade Carney is done, and Newman added 574 rushing yards, too. Sophomore Kenneth Walker is a nice 200-pound back who should average close to five yards per carry, and junior Christian Beal-Smith is a good option. Hartman can run, too.
The O line loses left tackle Justin Herron, but the entire interior is back. If Maryland transfer Terrance Davis can play a role early on, the coaching staff can play around with the configuration – it needs to settle the tackles.

Here we are just 98 days, 14 weeks exactly from the SCHEDULED start of Notre Dame football in 2020. Get ready for Irish football now!
The countdown is on!
Exactly 14 weeks from now, just 98 days (we hope) Notre Dame will return to the football field for Season 133 when the Irish take on Navy in a Week Zero affair. Will the game be played as scheduled? I’m guessing not in Ireland but perhaps with the way the news has gone this week we’ll see it get underway on time.
Each day from now until Notre Dame kicks off the year we’ll count down the days with the number and why it’s significant in the history of Notre Dame football.
Yesterday, Nick Setta’s nearly-perfect career PAT conversion percentage got us through Friday.
Today we get into the weekend back on offense, with the longest run in Notre Dame history.
It was November of 2015 and Notre Dame was sitting fourth overall in the country, looking to take another step towards their first-ever College Football Playoff appearance. Leading Wake Forest 14-0 early in the second quarter the Irish had the ball backed up nearly to their own goal line.

Notre Dame would win easy that afternoon, 28-7 as Adams would finish with 141 rushing yards. Just three years later Dexter Williams would nearly match the mark, taking a run 97 yards to the house at Virginia Tech in 2015.
That 2015 Notre Dame squad would eventually fall on the last play of the regular season at Stanford to miss out on their first CFP appearance.
Georgia football coach Kirby Smart was ranked 4th in 247Sports’ list of the top-25 coaches in college football.
On Thursday, Brad Crawford of 247Sports released his list of the top-25 coaches in college football.
Georgia coach Kirby Smart checked in at No. 4.
Crawford’s top-five was as follows:
1. Nick Saban, Alabama
2. Dabo Swinney, Clemson
3. Ed Orgeron, LSU
4. Kirby Smart, Georgia
5. Lincoln Riley, Oklahoma
Smart was named the Bulldogs coach in 2015 after serving as Alabama defensive coordinator under Nick Saban for eight years.
Smart has led his alma mater to a 44-12 record over four years as the Bulldogs head coach and has boasted three consecutive No. 1 ranked recruiting classes.
There is no question that Smart has built a powerhouse at Georgia. He recruits at an elite level and has one of the best defensive minds in all of college football.
So, what separates Smart from Saban, Swinney and Orgeron?
A national championship.
Smart has led Georgia to three consecutive SEC East titles, an SEC Championship title, a College Football Playoff victory and a National Championship bid, but a couple of close losses to Bama have held the Bulldogs from the top of college football.
However, Smart will have another shot at a title in 2020 and it may be with the most talented team he has had in his time at Georgia.
The Bulldogs return many of the starters from the 2019 record-breaking defense and have a new air-raid offensive system behind the arm of Wake Forest transfer quarterback Jamie Newman, and new offensive coordinator Todd Monken.

Looking at Wake Forest transfer QB Jamie Newman, now with Georgia football, as a high school prospect and some of his best highlights
We know that Wake Forest transfer quarterback Jamie Newman is one of the highest-graded quarterbacks returning in 2020, but what was Newman like as a high school prospect before playing for Wake and later transferring to Georgia?
Newman was a 3-star prospect at Graham High School in Graham, North Carolina and was ranked as the No. 17 dual-threat quarterback in the 2015 recruiting class, according to 247Sports.
Newman recorded a 4.7 40 in high school and held offers from NC State, Vanderbilt, West Virginia, North Carolina and Wake Forest, among six others.
Although Newman took unofficial visits to Duke, Wake Forrest, North Carolina, Vanderbilt and East Carolina, his college decision really came down between Wake Forest, Vanderbilt, NC State and West Virginia. And ultimately signed with Wake Forest in Feburary of 2016.

Georgia Bulldogs legend David Pollack thinks current UGA quarterback Jamie Newman will be a first round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft
Georgia Bulldogs legend David Pollack thinks current UGA quarterback Jamie Newman will be a first round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Pollack, an ESPN College Football GameDay analyst, made the College Football Hall of Fame earlier this offseason.
The 2021 NFL Draft featured four quarterbacks selected in the first round (seven went before Jake Fromm). Kellen Mond, Trevor Lawrence, Justin Fields, Kyle Trask, Jamie Newman, and Mac Jones are among potential first round QBs in 2021. Of course forecasting first round QBs this far in advance is tough to predict. Nobody was projecting Joe Burrow to be a first round pick before the 2019 season.

Newman has the potential to be a first round QB. NFL teams value quarterbacks with mobility more than ever. Newman will have to clean up his mistakes, but he’ll be surrounded by more talent than ever in Athens. Newman threw 11 interceptions last season to go along with 32 total touchdowns.
Newman’s experience at Wake Forest will be a plus for him. He went up against plenty of talented defenses during his time in the ACC. He’ll have a chance to boost his draft slot playing behind the best offensive line he’s ever had.
If Newman ends up as a first round pick, then that’s good news for Bulldog fans, who just saw Jake Fromm go in the fifth round. Will Jamie Newman be Georgia’s first QB selected in the first round since Matthew Stafford in 2009?
