Son of former Notre Dame quarterback commits to Notre Dame

Think we’ll see him in any games?

There always is something gratifying about seeing a former Notre Dame player’s kid go out for the Irish. That’s exactly what 2024 outside linebacker recruit [autotag]Tommy Powlus[/autotag], son of former Irish quarterback [autotag]Ron Powlus[/autotag], is doing. Although he will begin his career without a scholarship, he seems excited about the opportunity to suit up for the same program his father did:

Powlus won’t have to travel far to go to Notre Dame as he currently attends Penn in Mishawaka. If, for whatever reason, college football doesn’t work out for him, he also is an accomplished lacrosse player, so he at least has another sport he can fall back on. All we know for certain is athleticism definitely runs in the family.

There isn’t a lot about Powlus online other than his MaxPreps and Hudl profiles as well as Penn’s athletic site. Even in those cases, not much information is offered. It looks like we all will finding out about him at the same time assuming he even gets the opportunity.

Listen: ’93 Notre Dame Star Shares Lou Holtz Motivational Stories

In this time of there being no games to react to we checked in on Pete and discussed what it’s like have teenage kids at a time like this and got a couple of Lou Holtz stories out of him (those come towards the end of the interview).

If you’re at all familiar with the 1993 Notre Dame football team, the name Pete Bercich means something to you. He returned an interception for a touchdown on the first play of that season, and, well, didn’t intercept a Glen Foley pass late in the Boston College game later that year.

Pete played in the NFL for the Minnesota Vikings and now does their radio broadcasts each fall. The radio show, I work on as a producer each weekday, “The McNeil and Parkins Show” on 670 The Score in Chicago, has established a pretty good relationship with Pete over the years. In this time of having no games to react to, we checked in on Pete and discussed what it’s like have teenage kids at a time like this and also drew a couple of Lou Holtz stories out of him (those come toward the end of the interview).

Lou knew how to put on a happy face for the camera, but he’s also clearly not a guy you’d want to tick off. Fun stuff from a fun guest and a helluva football mind.

Notre Dame gained their second commitment to the 2022 recruiting class on Monday as it was four-star tight end Jack Nickel announcing his commitment.

Nickel is ranked as a four-star player according to 247Sports and becomes the latest tight end for a program that produces them at as high of level on on as regular of basis as anyone.

Notre Dame Offers 2022 Florida Star Safety

Brian Kelly and Notre Dame became the 19th team to offer safety Devin Moore a scholarship Thursday. Find out more about the 3* safety here

Notre Dame continued their recent run of extending scholarship offers to the recruiting class of 2022 Thursday when they extended an offer to Naples, Florida safety Devin Moore.

Moore is listed at 6-2, 175 and attends Naples High School.  Notre Dame became the 19th football program to extend a scholarship offer to Moore, who also received offers from Nebraska and Virginia Tech in the last week.

Moore is listed as a three star safety according to 247 Sports.  They also rank him the 21st best safety in the 2022 class.  Notre Dame joins the likes of Florida, Florida State, Miami, Michigan, Mississippi State, Nebraska, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia Tech who are among the 19 total schools to have offered him.

A look at Georgia QB Jamie Newman’s high school recruitment, highlights

Looking at Wake Forest transfer QB Jamie Newman, now with Georgia football, as a high school prospect and some of his best highlights

We know that Wake Forest transfer quarterback Jamie Newman is one of the highest-graded quarterbacks returning in 2020, but what was Newman like as a high school prospect before playing for Wake and later transferring to Georgia?

Newman was a 3-star prospect at Graham High School in Graham, North Carolina and was ranked as the No. 17 dual-threat quarterback in the 2015 recruiting class, according to 247Sports.

Newman recorded a 4.7 40 in high school and held offers from NC State, Vanderbilt, West Virginia, North Carolina and Wake Forest, among six others.

Although Newman took unofficial visits to Duke, Wake Forrest, North Carolina, Vanderbilt and East Carolina, his college decision really came down between Wake Forest, Vanderbilt, NC State and West Virginia. And ultimately signed with Wake Forest in Feburary of 2016.
