College GameDay signs roast Tennessee football

An Ole Miss fan took advantage of College GameDay coming to Oxford, Mississippi, and made a sign roasting Tennessee football.

A few Ole Miss fans took advantage of College GameDay coming to Oxford, Mississippi, and made signs roasting Tennessee football. Ole Miss defeated Tennessee in Knoxville, Tennessee, 31-26 back on Oct. 16.

Tennessee fans were upset when Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin and the Rebels stopped Tennessee on a controversial fourth down. After a lengthy video review, replay correctly ruled that their was not enough video evidence to overturn the call.

Madness ensued. Tennessee fans threw whatever they had including: beer cans, water bottles, and more. It took a while to clean the field and calm down Tennessee fans, which caused a lengthy delay.

You would think that Tennessee fans would be used to losing tough games after going 25-31 in their last five seasons, but evidently that is not the case.

Here’s a look at the signs:

Two of the more interesting things Tennessee fans threw on the field were: a mustard bottle and a golf ball, which was aimed at Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin.

Tennessee has banned a few dozen fans for throwing trash on the field during their defeat to Ole Miss. The Volunteers will hope to have a better environment for the Nov. 13 game against Georgia.

Georgia football has dropped a hype video ahead of the Nov. 13 game against the Tennessee Volunteers.

Georgia football has dropped a hype video ahead of the Nov. 13 game against the Tennessee Volunteers. Kirby Smart and UGA travel to Rocky Top in what should be a very interesting game.

Tennessee has a new coach, a high-powered offense, and are coming off a big win over Kentucky. Now, the Volunteers face a challenge from the top-ranked team in the country.

Who will prevail? Tennessee will look to throw Georgia’s defense off balance and get off the field on third downs when they play defense. Georgia will try to dominate the trenches, including former UGA offensive lineman Cade Mays.

Country singer Thomas Rhett, who was born in Valdosta, Georgia, narrates a hype video for the Georgia football team ahead of game 10 at Tennessee:

Thomas Rhett began his career out of Knoxville, Tennessee, so his loyalty may surprise a few folks on Rocky Top. It’s almost time for another Saturday of SEC football!

Tennessee to wear all-black uniforms against Georgia

The Tennessee Volunteers plan to wear their all-black uniforms against Georgia on Nov. 13.

The Tennessee Volunteers plan to wear their all-black uniforms, known as β€œDark Mode,” against No. 1-ranked Georgia on Nov. 13.

Tennessee’s jersey combination may give Georgia a pinch more motivation for the SEC East rivalry game. The Bulldogs have worn black jerseys in big games in the past and know the results can be hit or miss.

Tennessee has one of the top offenses that Georgia has faced all season. The Volunteers’ up-tempo attack will provide a challenge for Georgia. The game will be one of the most hostile environments UGA has played in all season.

Georgia has only played in a few true road games this season: at Vanderbilt, where the stands were mostly red, and at Auburn, which is always one of the top environments in the SEC.

Tennessee and quarterback Hendon Hooker last wore their black jerseys on Oct. 9 this season against the South Carolina Gamecocks. Calvin Mattheis-USA TODAY Sports

If I were Tennessee, then I am not sure this would be the game to choose to wear the all-black jersey combination. The jerseys look clean and are exciting, but will not help the Vols when they face the best defense in the country. The Georgia-Tennessee game should be fun and may be one of UGA’s more entertaining games all season.

Tennessee football announced their uniform combination via their Twitter account:

Twitter reacts: Tennessee hires head coach Josh Heupel

The Tennessee Volunteers have hired former UCF head coach Josh Heupel to be their head coach. Here’s how media and Twitter reacted.

The Tennessee Volunteers have hired former UCF head coach Josh Heupel to be their head coach. Heupel replaces Jeremy Pruitt, who was fired for cause after the NCAA discovered some of Tennessee’s recruiting violations.

Former UCF athletic director Danny White did not spend very long on his coaching search and pulled the trigger on Heupel. The duo reunite with a tall task ahead of them.

Tennessee has some talent, but has lost a lot of experience to the NCAA transfer portal. Georgia fans and the rest of the SEC can expect Tennessee to install a no-huddle offense with lightning speed. Tennessee’s offense should improve. The SEC has seen a recent influx of aggressive offensive schemes in recent seasons.

In 2018, Josh Heupel replaced former UCF head coach Scott Frost, who helped UCF to an unbeaten 13-0 record the year prior. Heupel finished 28-8 in his head coaching career with the Knights, including a 12-1 season in 2018.

Here’s how Twitter reacted to Tennessee’s latest head coach Josh Heupel:

Updated SEC football TV times and schedule for Oct. 24

The fifth week of SEC conference play features Auburn at Ole Miss, Alabama at Tennessee, South Carolina at LSU, and more.

The fifth week of SEC conference play features Auburn at Ole Miss, Alabama at Tennessee, South Carolina at LSU, and Kentucky at Missouri. Following a Florida Gators COVID outbreak, the league rescheduled the Georgia Bulldogs at Kentucky Wildcats game and the Florida Gators verus Missouri Tigers game.

Vanderbilt, Arkansas, Mississippi State, Georgia, Florida, and Texas A&M now all have the week off. Both UGA and Florida won’t have bye weeks before their Nov. 7 game.

Will Alabama have a let down following their primetime win over Georgia? Tennessee has looked rough in blowout losses in their past two weeks, so don’t count on it. The Crimson Tide are already the final undefeated team in the SEC.

The Georgia Bulldogs were set to have a night game against Kentucky. Now, UGA travels to Lexington for a noon game on Halloween (Oct. 31).

As always in the SEC, there are a lot of good match-ups. Please note the game changes mentioned above for Georgia, Florida, Kentucky, and Missouri.

The headliner for the week has to be Alabama at Tennessee. Can the Vols put up a fight against the Crimson Tide?

Interestingly, all of the other week five action features teams with a minimum of two losses. Auburn and LSU will be particularly desperate this week. This may be a good week to watch college football outside of the SEC.

The Big Ten returns and Ohio State should look impressive against Nebraska. Other top college football match-ups include:

Cincinnati at SMU, Michigan at Minnesota, Iowa State at Oklahoma State, and NC State at UNC. What’s your favorite game for the week?

Postgame recap: UGA football beats Vols 44-21

The Georgia Bulldogs crushed the Tennessee Volunteers 27-0 in the second half to end Tennessee’s hopes of an upset

The Georgia Bulldogs crushed the Tennessee Volunteers 27-0 in the second half to end Tennessee’s hopes of an upset. Georgia trailed 21-17 the half, but rallied behind three forced turnovers to beat Tennessee.

The University of Georgia once again has one of the top defenses in college football. The Dawgs held Tennessee to -1 rushing yards on the afternoon. Georgia stymied the Vols on third down, where they attacked the Volunteers offense and forced multiple turnovers.

Defensively, Azeez Ojulari, Adam Anderson, and Monty Rice all forced fumbles. Eric Stokes added an interception (play was pressured by defensive back Tyrique Stevenson).

Dan Lanning called an excellent game and Jarrett Guarantano was quite uncomfortable in the second half thanks to the pass rush, which recorded five sacks on the day. Azeez Ojulari and Channing Tindall both sacked Guarantano twice.

On the offensive side of the ball, Stetson Bennett and the Georgia attack overcame an early bad snap. Kenny McIntosh looked like a great weapon in both the run and pass game. He had a solid kick return as well.

Georgia running back Kendall Milton impressed, despite fumbling. Zamir White had somewhat of a lackluster game. He took 22 carries for 50 yards, but scored a touchdown. He was denied at the one yard line several times. White looked powerful,Β  but wasn’t a factor in the passing game.

The offensive line only gave up one sack of the day. Much of that is thanks to Stetson Bennett, who usually gets the ball out of his hands quickly. Bennett was effective as a runner (six carries for 22 yards and a rushing TD). He took a big hit late in the game, but returned to action.

On special teams, UGA kicker Jack Podlesny went 3-3 on field goals including a 51 yard make. Punter Jake Camarda had a 64 yard punt to flip field position in the second half.

Georgia will need a more complete performance to beat the Alabama Crimson Tide. Both DJ Daniel and Tyson Campbell got beat deep for Tennessee touchdowns. Daniel got pushed a little bit on the TD he gave up.

3-0 feels good. The players should be happy with their performance, especially in the second half. Go Dawgs!

2021 recruiting: Tennessee fans, stop bragging. Georgia fans, stop panicking.

Looking at the 2021 recruiting class, Tennessee Vols fans should stop bragging and Georgia football fans need to stop panicking.

Georgia football’s 2021 recruiting class is as follows (all rankings via 247Sports)

5-star QB Brock Vandagriff: No. 2 QB, No. 12 overall

4-star OT Micah Morris: No. 9 OT, No. 61 overall

4-star ATH David Daniel: No. 4 ATH, No. 78 overall

4-star RB Lovasea Carroll: No. 7 RB, No. 117 overall

4-star SDE Jonathan Jefferson: No. 13 SDE, No. 145 overall

4-star WDE Elijah Jeudy: No. 10 WDE, No. 170 overall

3-star DT Marlin Dean: No. 28 DT, No. 447 overall

Right now, this is the nation’s 20th ranked class. Given the fact that Georgia has only seven commitments, being ranked No. 20 is just fine. It’s clear that Georgia is going for quality over quantity in this class, with its commits carrying an average rating of 94.52, which is third in the country.

For comparison purposes, Tennessee has the No. 2 class in the nation. But Jeremy Pruitt is certainly going for quantity in this class. With 23 verbals, Tennessee commits carry an average rating of 89.84. That’s the lowest in the top-five.

(Fun fact: Florida, which has the nation’s No. 7 ranked class, has an average rating of 87.41, which is the lowest in the top-10 and the second-lowest in the top-15).

Georgia commits, fans and coaches all know that Kirby Smart has plenty of time to work his magic and climb the rankings by the time the early signing period rolls around in December. Maybe enlisting a little help from current players and commits on Twitter is what it takes to expedite that process, which is something we’ve seen a lot of this month. 5-star quarterback commit Brock Vandagriff has led the surge, tweeting at a number of top players in the 2021 class recruiting them to Georgia.

It’s too early to start doing two things: Bragging and panicking.

Look at Alabama. Nick Saban currently has the nation’s No. 46 raked class for the 2021 cycle. Nobody thinks for a second that the Tide will finish outside of the top-five when all is said and done. There’s just too much time and too many elite players remaining.

And let’s stick with Tennessee for a moment. The No. 2 class is nice, but in the end I’d prefer a class of around 22 players filled with elite commits than a class consisting of 30+ players where a majority of them are three-stars.

Tennessee’s 23 commitments broken down by star rating:

  • One 5-star
  • Nine 4-stars
  • Thirteen 3-stars

Georgia has plenty of highly ranked uncommitted recruits still on its board, not to mention the ones that Kirby will try to flip to UGA.
