Angry Tweets: CFB fans react to Georgia’s No. 4 ranking

Angry college football fans tweet after Georgia football checked in at No. 4 in the CFP Rankings.

On Tuesday night, Georgia checked in at No. 4 in the College Football Playoff rankings, remaining the highest ranked one-loss team.

According to the most recent edition of the CFP rankings, Georgia’s ranked wins include:

No. 16 Notre Dame

No. 10 Florida

No. 15 Auburn

The full top-six is as follows:

1. LSU

2. Ohio State

3. Clemson

4. Georgia

5. Alabama

6. Oregon

Surprisingly, Texas A&M, which Georgia hosts this weekend, remained unranked despite checking in at No. 23 in both the Amway Coaches Poll and the AP Top-25.

Following the release of the rankings, college football fans gave their thoughts on Twitter.

Originally, I was planning on making this an article that included happy tweets from UGA fans. Then, as I browsed Twitter all I saw was triggered fans of other schools…mostly Alabama.

On Tuesday night, the newest College Football Playoff rankings were released after Georgia’s big road win over Auburn.

In the most recent rankings, Georgia (9-1) remained at No. 4. Surprisingly, Texas A&M (7-3), which Georgia plays on Saturday, stayed unranked despite being placed at No. 23 in the Amway Coaches Poll and the AP Top-25.

LSU (1), Ohio State (2) and Clemson (3) all took care of business, and all held onto the same rankings.

The Dawgs definitely had the most impressive win of the weekend among those teams, beating then-ranked No. 12 Auburn on the road. That victory gives Georgia three victories over top-25 teams.

Alabama, which lost star quarterback Tua Tagovailoa for the season, remained put at No. 5.

Georgia will look to hold onto that No. 4 spot on Saturday vs Texas A&M. That game is scheduled to kick at 3:30 p.m. ET from Sanford Stadium and will air on CBS.

Patriots activate UGA’s Isaiah Wynn from IR

The New England Patriots have activated former Georgia Bulldog Isaiah Wynn from Injured Reserve.

The New England Patriots have activated former Georgia Bulldog Isaiah Wynn from Injured Reserve. Wynn, New England’s starting left tackle, was placed on IR earlier this season with a toe injury. ESPN’s Field Yates announced the move today via Twitter:

The Patriots placed Wynn on Injured Reserve after they defeated Miami in week two. Wynn was eligible to return in last week’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles. NFL players must spend at least eight weeks on IR before becoming eligible to return. Teams are now granted two slots for players eligible to return from IR.

New England rookie wide receiver N’Keal Harry returned from IR this week against Philadelphia. The Arizona State product caught three passes for eighteen yards in his debut. New England’s offense hasn’t been playing up to their usual high standards. For now, the Pats’ stout defense is carrying the load.

Wynn and Harry will give Tom Brady and the Patriot offense a much needed boost heading into the last stretch of the regular season. The Patriots can’t activate anybody else from IR moving forward.

Georgia football opens as a heavy favorite over the Texas A&M Aggies.

This Saturday, Georgia hosts Texas A&M in Sanford Stadium for the Bulldogs’ final SEC matchup of the year.

It will be the first time the two schools have met since the Aggies joined the SEC in 2012.

Ahead of Saturday’s matchup, Georgia opened as a 13.5 point favorite over Texas A&M, continuing the Dawgs’ streak of being favored in every game they have played this season.

No. 4 Georgia is sitting at 9-1 and coming off an impressive road win over Auburn, while Texas A&M, which found its way into the Amway Coaches Poll this week at No. 24, is 7-3. Last Saturday, the Aggies took down South Carolina, the team responsible for handing Georgia its only loss, by a score of 30-6.

The last time the two programs met was in the 2009 Independence Bowl, which Georgia won 44-20. Running back Caleb King was responsible for two rushing touchdowns while tight end Aaron White caught two of his own.

Georgia leads the all-time series 3-2. The most recent regular season meeting between the two programs came in 1980. Georgia won that game and went on to win its second national championship.

Kirk Herbstreit shows love to Georgia football after win over Auburn

The famed analyst gave the Dawgs praise after an impressive win

After their nail-biting yet still impressive road victory over the rival Auburn Tigers, former Ohio State quarterback and current college football analyst Kirk Herbstreit gave the Georgia Bulldogs some Twitter praise.

Herbstreit listed the Dawgs as his second best-performing team of the week, trailing only the Oklahoma Sooners, who rallied to overcome a 28-3 deficit and defeat the Baylor Bears.

It certainly was an impressive victory for the Dawgs. They marched into hostile territory, and though it got closer than it probably should have been towards the end of the contest, UGA still escaped with a 21-14 victory, which is no easy feat. The defense took center stage, showing why many believe that the unit will give the Dawgs a fighting chance in their SEC Championship matchup with LSU.

The Dawgs will next take the field this Saturday for their final home game coming against the Texas A&M Aggies.

Sure, there’s the annual clash with the North Avenue Trade School the weekend after Thanksgiving, but we’re talking about the real contest in Atlanta.

The SEC Championship Game, of course.

An essential part of any tailgate is “where to park?”  Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta has a variety of tailgating options.  These include the infamous “Gulch” next to the stadium, to the upscale The Home Depot Backyard, to an immersive RV experience at The Marshalling Yard.

In past years, parking for the SEC Championship has sold out quickly, and prices for parking passes are often listed for 4x – 10x face value on the secondary market.

By going to the Mercedes-Benz Stadium website, Georgia fans may purchase parking for their tailgate at face value now before spots are sold out.

The rules for tailgating at Mercedes-Benz Stadium are as follows:

• Tailgating before events is allowed in all flat parking lots, and is specifically prohibited in the campus multi-level garages.  When purchasing lots from parking.mercedesbenzstadium.com, look for the tailgating icon. 

• Vehicles may take up only one parking space, and tailgating equipment may not extend beyond the parking space, or impede vehicles driving through the lot. 

• Grills, chairs, coolers and other equipment may not take up a parking space.  Tailgating is confined to the area directly behind the vehicle. 

• Adjacent landscaped areas are common areas and may not be claimed exclusively. 

• Dispose of trash in appropriate receptacles. Dispose of coals in coal containers provided in the lots.

 

We hope to see a sea of red in Atlanta both on 11/30 and 12/7 for what could be two extra special days for Dawg Nation.

Georgia football K Rodrigo Blankenship named finalist for prestigious award

Georgia football kicker Rodrigo Blankenship named finalist for prestigious award

Rodrigo Blankenship, the beloved senior kicker for the Georgia Bulldogs, has been named a finalist for the Burlsworth Trophy, along with two other collegiate players.

Per a press release from Mitchell Communications Group:

“The Burlsworth Trophy is awarded to the most outstanding college football player in America who began his career as a walk on.”

In addition to Blankenship, University of California Running Safety/Kick Returner Ashtyn Davis, and Michigan State Defensive End Kenny Willekes were also named finalists for the award.

The 3 finalists will be honored and the winner of the 2019 Burlsworth Trophy will be announced on December 9th, at 12:45 p.m. at a luncheon in Springdale, Ark. hosted by the Brandon Burlsworth Foundation in conjunction with the Springdale Rotary Club, per the release.

The trophy is named in honor of Brandon Burlsworth. Without one D1 scholarship offer, Brandon walked on to the Razorback team in 1994, worked his way to being a three-year starter and was eventually named an All-American in 1998. Burlsworth was selected as the 63rd overall pick by the Indianapolis Colts in the 1999 NFL draft, but was tragically killed in a car accident 11 days later. The Burlsworth Foundation was created in his memory and supports the physical and spiritual needs of children, in particular those children who have limited opportunities.

In Saturday’s win at Auburn, Georgia punter Jake Camarda’s performance earned him the honor of Southeastern Conference Special Teams Player of the Week. Camarda isn’t the first recipient of the award to suit up for the Silver Britches this season.

His teammate, kicker Rodrigo Blankenship, is no stranger to the award and was among the first to congratulate Camarda this afternoon.

This is the fourth time this season that a Georgia Bulldog has been named the SEC’s Special Teamer of the week. The other three were awarded to Camarda’s hype man Blankenship.

Camarda was called to punt 11 times for the Dawgs against the Tigers, averaging 50.7 yards per attempt including an early 67 yard bomb that stuck Auburn at their own goal line.

Blankenship recently called for Camarda to be recognized as game MVP in the Bulldogs’ win on The Plains.

In a defensive struggle that 1) was heavily reliant on field position and 2) resulted in a division-clinching win for Georgia, it’s hard to argue with Hot Rod. Jake Camarda came up big.

The Texas A&M Aggies travel East this Saturday as the Georgia Bulldogs will host them in Sanford Stadium for what will be the Dawgs final SEC matchup of the regular season.

Georgia secured a ticket to its third straight SEC Championship Game this past Saturday with a 21-14 victory at Auburn.

The unranked Aggies (7-3, 4-2) are not a team to overlook.  Jimbo Fisher and company have lost games to previously ranked #1 Clemson, #1 Alabama and #8 Auburn. A&M has one of the toughest schedules in all of college football, still having #4 Georgia as well as #1 LSU the week after.

That will be a total of three #1 teams and four top five teams on the season.

That being said, let’s take a look at how these two teams matchup statistically this season.

On paper, the first matchup between the Bulldogs ands Aggies since TAMU joined the SEC in 2012 looks to be a Georgia win. But, hey, we said the same thing before South Carolina.
