Report: Nation’s No. 1 recruit de-commits from Clemson – Is Georgia an option?

Korey Foreman, the nation’s No. 1 recruit, has de-committed from the Clemson Tigers. Is Georgia football an option for the defensive end?

On Tuesday, Clemson had a player de-commit from the program for the first time since December of 2016.

And this player just happens to be the No. 1 overall recruit in America for the class of 2021, defensive end Korey Foreman.

Foreman had originally committed to Clemson in January while on an unofficial visit to the campus. After getting a tattoo of a tiger inked to his left arm, nobody would have thought Foreman would be reopening his commitment just a few months later.

Out of Centennial High School in Corona, California, Foreman ran into an issue with a Dabo Swinney recruiting policy.

At Clemson, Swinney has a strict ‘no-trip’ policy for players who are committed to the program. The policy basically says that players who are committed to the program are not allowed to take trips to check out other schools. If you want to visit other programs, do so while you are still uncommitted.

According to 247, Foreman wanted the chance to take visits to other programs, but in order to do so he had to de-commit from Clemson.

The reasoning behind Foreman reopening his recruitment makes me think it leaves the door open for him to wind up back at Clemson when all is said and done. Expect the Tigers to still heavily recruit Foreman, and don’t be surprised if he ends up signing there.

But in the meantime, the nation’s top recruit is currently uncommitted, and he’ll have every coach in the country hitting his line in the coming days.

The news was first reported by Grace Raynor of The Athletic.

So that raises the question — is Georgia an option?

The Dawgs have been on a roll lately in terms of recruiting the 2021 class. They’ve soared up the class rankings after receiving three commitments in April and two in March. Currently, Georgia has the No. 8 ranked class in the country.

Currently, Georgia has one player committed at Foreman’s position of strong-side defensive end, and that’s four-star Douglasville native Jonathan Jefferson. But if Foreman shows interest in Georgia, which I suspect he might, I’m sure Kirby Smart will find room for the nation’s top player.

Leaving home to play for a school 3,000 miles away is tough, but it appears that Foreman is not ruling out the southeast, as seen by his previous commitment to Clemson. And the good news for Georgia is that the Bulldogs were actually once awfully high on Foreman’s list prior to his committing to Clemson. As was Alabama.

“After the Clemson visit, I was originally supposed to also visit Georgia, Alabama and LSU too,” Foreman said in early February, per 247Sports’ Greg Biggins. “Last summer, I visited all those schools, but Clemson just felt like home to me. It’s where I’m supposed to be and where I felt God leading me.”

Ohio State is another strong contender to keep an eye on, but the biggest threat that could keep Foreman from leaving the state is USC, where he has close ties to Trojan freshman defensive end Drake Jackson.

Foreman will be an early graduate from high school, will sign in December and enroll early at whichever school he chooses to attend.

On Anderson, 247Sports wrote:

“Speed manifests on the field. Has played both ways as dual-threat QB and DB, but long-term fit is in the secondary. Could provide versatility thanks to athleticism, instincts, and awareness. Capable in man coverage, but also terrific covering territory as a deep safety.”

Georgia football made the top-six for 2021 4-star WR Chris Hilton

The 6-foot, 169 pound prospect is ranked as the No. 5 receiver in the 2021 class and the No. 51 ranked prospect overall. (via 247Sports)

Hilton told 247Sports:

“You could say whichever school I feel like I’m more comfortable at, can play at, and get my education is how I’ll get it down to one.”

Although the Bulldogs have good depth at the receiver position for at least the next two seasons, Kirby Smart knows that you can never have too many explosive playmakers in today’s game.

Hilton, who runs a 4.45 40 yard dash, would be great addition to a speedy Georgia offense and with 5-star quarterback Brock Vandagriff heading to Athens in 2021, the Bulldogs hope to get as many playmakers on the outside as possible.

“I like the coaching staff and the academics are really good,” Hilton told Dawg Post, speaking of Georgia.

Georgia football among four-star DE Keeshawn Silver’s top seven schools

Projected to commit in-state, Silver has a long list of scholarship offers, including UGA rivals Florida, Auburn, Georgia Tech, and Alabama.

Four-star defensive end Keeshawn Silver took to twitter to narrow down his preferred collegiate destinations.

A rising senior out of Rocky Mount, North Carolina, Silver is the state’s top defensive end and fifth-ranked prospect overall. According to the recruiting analysts at 247.com, he is the eighth-best strongside defensive end of 2021’s recruiting class.

Currently projected to commit to in-state UNC, Silver has a long list of scholarship offers, including Georgia rivals Florida, Auburn, Georgia Tech, and Alabama.

Of that list, only Florida, Auburn, and Alabama made the cut. Sorry Jackets, but it’s not exactly surprising.

Silver, who began his high school athletic career primarily as a basketball player, has a high ceiling given that his talent and his new venture’s novelty.

He has not scheduled a commitment date.

Top-100 recruit expands list, includes Georgia football in final eight

Georgia football was included in the top-eight of an elite 4-star recruit.

Kaine Williams, a 4-star safety in the class of 2021, has included Georgia in his top-eight schools.

Williams initially released a final cut of six schools, which included Georgia. In his tweet on Wednesday, Williams mentioned that no school dropped out of his top-six, however, he did add two schools to his list: Florida State and Texas.

His new top-eight includes LSU, Alabama, Texas A&M, Texas, Oklahoma, Florida, Florida State and Georgia.

Williams, out of John Ehret High School in Marrero, Louisiana, ranks as the nation’s No. 95 overall player and the No. 3 safety in the country.

Right now, according to 247Sports, Williams is viewed as an LSU lean. The Tigers will be a tough program to beat out seeing as how they routinely produce some of the nation’s top defensive backs and are located just 45 minutes from his home.

Williams recently told Rivals that he plans to commit either at the end of May or the beginning of August.
