Twitter reacts to Logan Diggs’ go-ahead touchdown in Gator Bowl

Pretty run.

It turned out [autotag]Braden Lenzy[/autotag] wasn’t content with a game-tying touchdown in the Gator Bowl. Apparently, getting in on a successful fake punt was necessary, too. Lenzy was on the receiving end of such a play, and he picked up 20 yards to keep Notre Dame’s first fourth-quarter drive alive. It was a bit of revenge for South Carolina pulling the same stunt in the first quarter and scoring a touchdown off of it.

While Lenzy didn’t score a touchdown on this particular fake punt, he did set one up. Three plays later, [autotag]Logan Diggs[/autotag] ran for a 39-yard score, his second of the game, to give the Irish a 38-31 lead, their first of the game:

If the Irish come away with a victory, that sequence will be one of many things the fan base looks back on. In fact, many members wanted to look back on it immediately, and you can see that through these tweets:

How Twitter reacted to Notre Dame-Clemson: Irish side

You’re happy, right?

It had been 40 years since an unranked Notre Dame team last defeated a top-five team. That came when the 1982 Irish upset Dan Marino and top-ranked Pittsburgh. Clemson wasn’t the top-ranked team entering Notre Dame Stadium in 2022, but the final outcome was no less impressive. The Irish beat the Tigers, 35-14, almost two years to the day of them beating this same program in the same location.

Irish fans in South Bend and beyond will be celebrating this one for a long time. If a national championship wasn’t in the cards, this was the next best thing. All reservations about [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag] have gone out the window, at least for the moment. There no longer appears to be a limit on the possibilities with him at the helm in the years to come.

Here are some of the best reactions to the big win on Twitter, many of which came from program alumni:

NFL roster news: former Notre Dame defensive back waived by Panthers

Hopefully he finds a landing spot soon

Former Notre Dame cornerback [autotag]Troy Pride, Jr.[/autotag] was drafted by the Carolina Panthers in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL draft but he was officially waived from the club on Monday with an injury designation.

Pride missed the 2021 season after tearing his ACL in a preseason game against the Indianapolis Colts.  In 2020 he recorded 42 tackles and was credited with a pair of pass defenses while playing in 14 games played.

Pride played at Notre Dame from 2016-2019, being a regular starter in the 2018 and 2019 seasons.  He recorded 88 tackles in his time at Notre Dame while intercepting four passes for the Fighting Irish.

Panthers waive CB Troy Pride Jr., officially sign two players

CB Troy Pride Jr. is the first draft pick of the Matt Rhule era to part ways with the Panthers.

Monday afternoon marked a first for Carolina Panthers head coach Matt Rhule, as he and the team parted ways with one of his draft picks. And that pick is Troy Pride Jr.

The 24-year-old cornerback was officially waived with an injury designation today, just two years after being selected. Pride Jr. had missed the entirety of the 2021 campaign after tearing his ACL in the preseason opener against the Indianapolis Colts.

A University of Notre Dame product, Pride Jr. was taken in the fourth round of the 2020 draft. In his lone season with the Panthers, he recorded 42 tackles and two passes defensed over 14 games.

Along with the release, came news of two additions to the roster. One, as reported by Pro Football Network’s Aaron Wilson on Sunday, is tight end Jared Scott—who most recently played at Idaho State University.

The second is offensive tackle Wyatt Miller. Miller entered the league as an undrafted free agent in 2019 and has picked up practice-squad stops with the New York Jets, Cincinnati Bengals, Dallas Cowboys, Seattle Seahawks and Kansas City Chiefs.

Panthers react to University of South Carolina’s NCAA championship victory

Those who’ve repped the Panthers repped the South Carolina Gamecocks on Sunday night, as the ladies captured their second national title in program history.

The Carolina Panthers may be one team, but they proudly represent two states. And both of those states had themselves a heck of a weekend in college basketball.

On Saturday, it was the University of North Carolina Tar Heels edging out their rival Duke Blue Devils to clinch a spot in the men’s national title game. Then Sunday was for the ladies, as the University of South Carolina Gamecocks held off the UConn Huskies to capture their second ever tourney crown.

So check out those who rep the Panthers repping out the Gamecocks in their triumphant win.

Panthers players react to Tom Brady’s reported retirement

Tom Brady is retiring . . . or is he? Either way, a few Panthers reacted to the unofficial news that has the game’s greatest player calling it a career.

The Carolina Panthers may or may not have to see Tom Brady again. And that’s because Tom Brady may or may not be heading towards retirement.

Either way, a few players hopped on social media to react to the news that might spell the end of perhaps the greatest career in NFL history.

Panthers to waive CB Jalen Julius

CB Jalen Julius will be waived by the Panthers, according to Joseph Person of The Athletic.

Hours after their trade for Buffalo Bills defensive end Darryl Johnson, the Carolina Panther kept it moving with their latest roster departure.

According to Joseph Person of The Athletic, the team has let cornerback Jalen Julius know of their intentions to waive him. Julius signed with Carolina back in April.

The 5-foot-10, 190-pounder cracked into the league two years ago as an undrafted free agent with the Kansas City Chiefs out of the University of Mississippi. With the Rebels, he totaled 138 tackles and 1.5 sack over four seasons.

Although the Panthers have grown a bit thin at corner, mostly notably with the season-ending ACL injury to Troy Pride Jr. and the two-game suspension of A.J. Bouye, Julius was not expected to make the roster. He could, as Person also notes, be a candidate for the practice squad.

Follow all the roster cuts leading up to Tuesday’s 4 p.m. ET deadline here.

Panthers injury update: S Kenny Robinson ruled out vs. Ravens

S Kenny Robinson (knee) is the latest Panthers defensive back to go down with a preseason injury.

Soon after cornerback Keith Taylor sustained an apparent shoulder injury, the Carolina Panthers were forced to deal with yet another health scare from the secondary. This time, it was with safety Kenny Robinson.

Early in the third quarter of Saturday night’s game, Robinson remained on the turf following an assisted tackle of Baltimore Ravens running back Nate McCrary. He was helped off the field and later ruled out.

Robinson was brought to the blue tent upon being aided off and had his knee subsequently wrapped in ice. He joins Taylor and cornerback Troy Pride Jr., who will not return at all in 2021, as defensive backs on the injury list.

Panthers who benefited most from Tuesday’s roster cutdown

As six are headed out, which Panthers are now headed up after Tuesday’s roster adjustments?

The Carolina Panthers did some shaving down just ahead of Tuesday’s 4 p.m. ET deadline in order to hit the league’s mandated 85-man roster limit. In fact, they even got down to 84 just for good measure.

Ok, maybe not for “good measure,” but for good reason, as the season-ending injury to cornerback Troy Pride Jr. was a departure that was perhaps a bit premature. He and five others, as of now, are no longer active members of roster and, as weird is it may be to lay this down, that helps out a few men who are still around.

Panthers waive/injure OL Matt Kaskey

OL Matt Kaskey was the sixth player to be taken off the Panthers’ roster on Tuesday.

If you thought the Carolina Panthers were done cleaning up the roster on Tuesday after maneuvering around the required five players, well, you were wrong. There was, unfortunately, a sixth—offensive lineman Matt Kaskey.

Carolina has announced they have waived/injured Kaskey, who sustained a foot injury in Sunday’s preseason opener against the Indianapolis Colts. He did not return to the game and, according to head coach Matt Rhule, was likely not ready to hit the field again for this week’s activities leading to Saturday’s matchup with the Baltimore Ravens.

Kaskey spent much of 2020 on Carolina’s practice squad. He was called up to the active roster during the season’s final weeks and appeared in just one game.

He joins fellow offensive linemen Greg Little (traded) and Mike Panasiuk (waived/injured), linebacker Nate Hall (waived/injured), cornerback Troy Pride Jr. (injured reserve) and fullback Rod Smith (released) as the players removed from the team’s roster on Tuesday.
