Tennessee Titans add three more players on futures contracts

The Titans signed three more players to futures contracts on Tuesday.

In addition to the 11 players signed to futures/reserves contracts on Monday, the Tennessee Titans signed three more on Tuesday, bringing their total of futures contracts inked to 16.

The team announced it has signed defensive backs Shyheim Carter and Rodney Clemons, and linebacker Nate Hall to futures deals.

Carter played collegiate football at Alabama, becoming a regular starter over his last two years on campus and racking up 86 combined tackles (six for loss), and three interceptions over that span.

He was just one of two Alabama defensive backs who were not selected in the 2020 NFL draft. After going undrafted, Carter was signed by the New York Jets, and also spent time with the Houston Texans and Atlanta Falcons.

At 6-foot, 209 pounds, Clemons played his college ball at SMU, where he was a four-year starter. The Katy, Texas native recorded 78 tackles in his senior season, including three for loss, and had a team-leading four interceptions.

Hall has bounced around several clubs in a short amount of time. The Dallas Cowboys signed the former Northwestern linebacker as an undrafted free agent after the 2019 NFL Draft.

Since then, he’s spent time with the Buffalo Bills, Houston Texans, Carolina Panthers, Los Angeles Chargers, and Arizona Cardinals. Hall has played in three NFL games, recording ten total tackles and two sacks while forcing a fumble.

Chargers sign LB Nate Hall to practice squad

In the midst of Drue Tranquill’s injury, the Chargers added some reinforcements.

The Chargers signed linebacker Nate Hall to their 16-man practice squad. To clear up space, the team released defensive lineman Andrew Brown.

After being signed as an undrafted free agent by the Cowboys in 2019, Hall bounced around the league, specifically the Bills, Texans, and Panthers.

The move to bring in Hall comes amid Drue Tranquill’s chest injury, which could indicate that he might have to miss this Sunday’s contest against the Ravens.

If so, Los Angeles will then likely promote someone from the practice squad ahead of the matchup.

The linebackers currently on the Bolts’ practice squad aside from Hall are Cole Christiansen and Josh Watson.

Panthers waive/injure OL Matt Kaskey

OL Matt Kaskey was the sixth player to be taken off the Panthers’ roster on Tuesday.

If you thought the Carolina Panthers were done cleaning up the roster on Tuesday after maneuvering around the required five players, well, you were wrong. There was, unfortunately, a sixth—offensive lineman Matt Kaskey.

Carolina has announced they have waived/injured Kaskey, who sustained a foot injury in Sunday’s preseason opener against the Indianapolis Colts. He did not return to the game and, according to head coach Matt Rhule, was likely not ready to hit the field again for this week’s activities leading to Saturday’s matchup with the Baltimore Ravens.

Kaskey spent much of 2020 on Carolina’s practice squad. He was called up to the active roster during the season’s final weeks and appeared in just one game.

He joins fellow offensive linemen Greg Little (traded) and Mike Panasiuk (waived/injured), linebacker Nate Hall (waived/injured), cornerback Troy Pride Jr. (injured reserve) and fullback Rod Smith (released) as the players removed from the team’s roster on Tuesday.

Panthers place CB Troy Pride Jr. on IR, part with 3 others

In addition to the trade of OT Greg Little, the Panthers maneuvered around four other players to reach Tuesday’s 85-man roster limit.

As unfortunate as this side of the business can be, five players were headed to the chopping block for the Carolina Panthers on Tuesday afternoon. What’s even more unfortunate is that one of them has come as a result of a crushing injury.

During their cutdown to the 85-man roster limit, the Panthers announced they have placed cornerback Troy Pride Jr. on the injured reserve. Pride Jr. sustained a knee injury late in Sunday’s preseason opener against the Indianapolis Colts and was carted off into the locker room.

The 23-year-old defender was drafted by the team in the fourth round of the 2020 draft. He started in eight of his 14 games played as a rookie last season, totaling 41 tackles and a pair of pass deflections.

Pride Jr.’s spot on the roster was already in jeopardy, even prior to the injury. With Carolina boasting a sudden crop of solid depth at cornerback, teammates Keith Taylor and Stantley Thomas-Oliver III were presumed as favorites to knock off Pride Jr. on the depth chart.

The Panthers also released fullback Rod Smith, who they had signed less than two weeks ago, and waived/injured the duo of center Mike Panasiuk and linebacker Nate Hall.

Offensive tackle Greg Little was served his walking papers as well, with the team announcing a trade of the 2019 second-round pick to the Miami Dolphins at the head of this Tuesday wave of departures.

Panthers claim linebacker Nate Hall off waivers from Texans

Following short stints in Dallas and Buffalo, the 25-year-old linebacker was then waived by the Texans on Monday.

Hours after releasing DB J.T. Ibe, the Panthers have filled his spot on the 90-man roster by claiming linebacker Nate Hall off the waiver wire.

Hall’s NFL career began with the Cowboys in 2019 as an undrafted free agent out of Northwestern. There, he started nine games as a senior linebacker, recording 51 tackles, 5.5 tackles for a loss and three interceptions on his way to becoming an All-Big Ten honorable mention.

Following short stints in Dallas and Buffalo, the 25-year-old linebacker was then waived by the Texans on Monday. Through 10 games with Houston in 2020, Hall racked up 11 tackles and a pair of sacks in just 15 defensive snaps, also lining up for 36% of the team’s special teams snaps.

Still, Hall faces an uphill battle to make Carolina’s final roster. While he provides more insurance in case of injury among the linebacker group right now, he’ll likely compete against players like Frankie Luvu, Julian Stanford and the recently-signed Jonathan Celestin for a permanent depth spot.

Texans promote 2 from practice squad to active roster versus the Jaguars

The Houston Texans have promoted ILB Nate Hall and S Jonathan Owens from the practice squad to the active roster versus the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Houston Texans announced the promotion of two players from the practice squad to the active roster ahead of their Week 5 matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Texans promoted inside linebacker Nate Hall to the active roster along with safety Jonathan Owens.

Houston has some injury issues at inside linebacker. Dylan Cole worked through a knee issue throughout the week, was a full participant in Friday’s practice, and received no designation. However, Pro Bowler Benardrick McKinney was limited in practice all week with a shoulder injury and given a questionable designation. Peter Kalambayi, who also was given the questionable designation, has yet to play in a game this season due to a hamstring injury.

The Texans could be anticipating more defensive snaps from Cole, who is a special teams ace. If so, having Owens and Hall fill that void in the transition phase of the game could be what Houston is going for.

Texans sign LB Nate Hall to practice squad, release TE Jerell Adams

The Houston Texans made a new addition to their 10-man practice squad, signing rookie linebacker Nate Hall and releasing tight end Jerell Adams.

The Houston Texans are shaking up their practice squad. The Texans signed linebacker Nate Hall to their 10-man practice squad, the team announced. In a corresponding move, they released tight end Jerell Adams from the group.

Hall, 23, played collegiately at Northwestern. After going undrafted in April, he spent time with the Dallas Cowboys practice squad, then the Buffalo Bills’. He will wear jersey No. 48 in Houston.

In four seasons at Northwestern, Hall tallied 261 combined tackles, five sacks, five interceptions and 10 pass deflections. In 2017, he tore his right ACL while practicing for the Music City Bowl.

The Texans also worked out defensive end Eric Lee, according to Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle. Houston did not sign him immediately.

Hall joins running back Karan Higdon, cornerback Anthony Chesney, wide receiver Chad Hansen, offensive tackle Rick Leonard, quarterback Alex McGough, offensive tackle Kyle Murphy, offensive tackle Elijah Nkahsah and safety Jonathan Owens to round out the practice squad.
