Colts add a pair to the practice squad

The Colts added TE Nakia Griffin-Stewart and G Arlington Hambright to the practice squad.

The Indianapolis Colts signed tight end Nakia Griffin-Stewart and guard Arlington Hambright to the practice squad and released kicker Lucas Havrisik and tight end Jared Scott from the practice squad, the team announced Tuesday.

The notable piece of news here is that Havrisik was released from the practice squad, signifying that Chase McLaughlin will be the kicker moving forward. McLaughlin played just one snap in Week 2, which was the opening kickoff of the second half.

The Colts technically could keep him on the practice squad and elevate him two more times until they need to sign him to the active roster. Whether they’ll do that remains to be seen.

Griffin-Stewart spent time at Rutgers (2015-2018) and Pittsburgh (2019) before entering the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2020. He’s spent time on the practice squad or offseason roster with the Minnesota Vikings (2020), Green Bay Packers (2020), New York Giants (2020–2021) and Cleveland Browns (2022). He was active for one game with the Kansas City Chiefs (2021).

Hambright had previously been a part of the practice squad before the Colts signed Havrisik and McLaughlin before Week 2.

Panthers waive CB Troy Pride Jr., officially sign two players

CB Troy Pride Jr. is the first draft pick of the Matt Rhule era to part ways with the Panthers.

Monday afternoon marked a first for Carolina Panthers head coach Matt Rhule, as he and the team parted ways with one of his draft picks. And that pick is Troy Pride Jr.

The 24-year-old cornerback was officially waived with an injury designation today, just two years after being selected. Pride Jr. had missed the entirety of the 2021 campaign after tearing his ACL in the preseason opener against the Indianapolis Colts.

A University of Notre Dame product, Pride Jr. was taken in the fourth round of the 2020 draft. In his lone season with the Panthers, he recorded 42 tackles and two passes defensed over 14 games.

Along with the release, came news of two additions to the roster. One, as reported by Pro Football Network’s Aaron Wilson on Sunday, is tight end Jared Scott—who most recently played at Idaho State University.

The second is offensive tackle Wyatt Miller. Miller entered the league as an undrafted free agent in 2019 and has picked up practice-squad stops with the New York Jets, Cincinnati Bengals, Dallas Cowboys, Seattle Seahawks and Kansas City Chiefs.

Panthers signing TE Jared Scott after rookie minicamp tryout

As reported by Pro Football Network’s Aaron Wilson, the Panthers are signing TE Jared Scott out of rookie minicamp.

You can use the word “former” in a number of different ways in front of Jared Scott’s name. He was a former Prairie View A&M Panther, a former Wyoming Panther, a former Jacksonville State Gamecock and, heck, he even played another position as a former wide receiver.

But, now, he’s a current Carolina Panther.

According to Aaron Wilson of Pro Football Network, the Panthers are signing the 6-foot-5, 225-pound tight end following his tryout. He has been one of 42 players—rookies, undrafted free-agent signings and veterans alike—present at Carolina’s 2022 rookie minicamp.

Scott played his final season of college ball at Idaho State University, where he reeled in 41 receptions for 340 yards and four touchdowns in 2021. He, over his previous four campaigns between his three aforementioned stops, totaled 24 receptions, 445 yards and five scores.

The Oak Park, Ill. native will join the Panthers’ roster as their sixth tight end—alongside Ian Thomas, Tommy Tremble, Colin Thompson, Stephen Sullivan and Josh Babicz.
