Miyan Williams gets the first Ohio State touchdown of the season; social media reacts

Social media reacts to the opening touchdown drive for Ohio State #GoBucks

[autotag]Ohio State football[/autotag] is officially on the board for 2023.

The Buckeyes are in Bloomington taking on Indiana for the season opener. While all eyes were on [autotag]Kyle McCord[/autotag], the Buckeyes used a balanced attack to methodically move the ball down the field on the opening drive.

[autotag]TreVeyon Henderson[/autotag] took the bulk of the carries until the Bucks got into the red zone. A combination of [autotag]Chip Traynum[/autotag] and [autotag]Miyan Williams[/autotag] finished off the drive with Williams taking it in for the first score of the season. Buckeye Nation seems pretty excited about the fast start to the season.

Let’s check out some of the social media reactions.

Draft Wire predicts seven Buckeyes in first round of 2024 NFL mock draft

USA Today’s Draft Wire’s latest first-round NFL mock draft features seven Ohio State football players going in the first round.

With Week 1 of college football getting underway and the NFL preseason wrapping up, USA Today’s Draft Wire updated its 2024 NFL mock draft.

Preseason mock drafts are a tough projection to make because many things will change throughout the season. However, they are a good way to evaluate how much top-tier talent a college football team has.

The Buckeyes have sent a great deal of talent into the NFL in recent years. In fact, they’ve had at least one player in every draft since 2015, including multiple first rounders in seven of the last eight draft classes.

This mock draft projects Ohio State to produce a record number of first-round picks: Seven Buckeyes come off the board in this mock draft. Here are the Buckeyes who made the list.

Five Ohio State football players make PFF’s preseason All-American teams

Five Buckeyes projected to make the All-American teams with two more honorable mention?!? #GoBucks

Another day, another group of [autotag]Ohio State football[/autotag] players getting selected on a preseason All-American team.

This time it’s Pro Football Focus, who not only picked five Buckeyes to have those honors, but also had two more as honorable mention. You can probably guess at least one who is on the first team. Hint, he wears No. 18 and has been all over numerous other All-American lists. He also has an NFL Hall of Fame father to thank for passing some pretty impressive genes along.

The others aren’t quite as obvious, but it is a bunch of familiar names nevertheless. Find out below which five Buckeyes made either the first, second, or third team, along with the two that made honorable mention according to PFF.

Projecting Ohio State football ratings if NCAA ’24 existed: Offense

What would the Ohio State offense be rated had EA Sports came out with NCAA ’24? #GoBucks

EA Sports hasn’t produced an NCAA football video game title since 2013, when it released “NCAA ’14.” We all took it for granted not knowing it would be our last. Now it seems that every year we hear rumors of the return of this magical product, but despite the rumors heating up hotter than ever due to the emergence of name, image and likeness licensing the future is still fairly dim.

We recently took a walk down memory lane and covered the highest-rated Ohio State Buckeyes from the game’s history and that, mixed with the recent release of “Madden ’24,” got me thinking about how this current roster would shake out and how some of the most popular players would be ranked.

We are going to dive into how the offense would have possibly looked had the game been released. Again, this isn’t all-encompassing with every player on the roster, just a touch of most of the players you’ll probably see when you sit down in front of your television in the fall.

2024 NFL draft watch list: Top running backs for the New Orleans Saints

2024 NFL draft watch list: Highlighting top options at running back for the New Orleans Saints | @DillySanders

The New Orleans Saints are looking good at running back for now, but you can never take your eyes off a position like that. The turnaround at running back is high so the Saints could still be watching the position in the draft.

Jamaal Williams is coming off of a great year, but both he and Alvin Kamara are both 28 and these days that is almost ancient for a star running back. Todd Gurley retired and he’s only 29. It’s hard to predict when someone falls off the cliff at this position.

The Saints running back room has a little bit of everything right now, but it’s clear that they favor some versatility. There are some great names available for the second and third rounds, which seems to be the go to spot for running backs these days (unless you’re the Atlanta Falcons or Detroit Lions).

Here are the top names at running back to keep an eye on this college football season, while there’s really no Bijan Robinson or Jahmyr Gibbs, it’s still a fun class:

Biggest playmakers in the Big Ten who aren’t quarterbacks in 2023

Who are the biggest non-QB playmakers in the Big Ten? How many Buckeyes make this list? #B1G #GoBucks

The quarterbacks get all of the hype and I am just as guilty of it as evidenced by my top transfer piece, where most of the list are gunslingers. However, some of the most impactful players that affect the game aren’t under-center.

When I evaluate the Big Ten, including the Ohio State roster, I notice that many new quarterbacks are going to get a shot and someone will have to step up.

This list is focused more on the top guys who can take the pressure off the quarterback or even thrive no matter the circumstance. These five players are guys that opposing coaches will need to highlight and circle to work around and even then these players will still likely thrive.

It also just so happens that many of these names should receive some Heisman Trophy hype as well, but let’s dive into the top five non-quarterback playmakers in the Big Ten.

Ohio State places five players on 247Sports top 100 players in college football

Just five?!? #GoBucks

Star power is what you need to compete for championships, and if 247Sports is correct, the [autotag]Ohio State football[/autotag] team will have enough of it during the 2023 season.

The Buckeyes placed five players on the site’s top 100 list. More than a few of them we expected to be on the list. The bigger question was how high did they rank?

Blake Brockermeyer, who put together the rankings, along with the help of his cohorts at 247Sports, started the procedure with around 200 candidates, so more than a few players who weren’t selected were on his mind.

Find out below where each Ohio State star ranked and what Brockermeyer said about them.

Ohio State with four players named to Walter Camp Award watch list

Just four?!? That’s a lot of scarlet and gray on the list. #GoBucks

It’s safe to say that the [autotag]Walter Camp Award[/autotag] is extremely high on [autotag]Ohio State football[/autotag] players entering the 2023 season.

Why is that? Well, it announced its preseason watch list of 45 total players, and the Buckeyes have four of those, the most for any one school in the country.

If you didn’t know, the award is given annually to the best player in the country as judged by the Walter Camp Foundation. Last year USC quarterback [autotag]Caleb Williams[/autotag] took home the honors. The last Ohio State player to win the Walter Camp Award was quarterback [autotag]Troy Smith[/autotag] in 2006, who also took home the Heisman also.

Find out below which four Buckeyes made their preseason watch list.

Ohio State running back duo on Doak Walker preseason watch list

Two more Buckeyes on a significant college football award preseason watch list. #GoBucks

There aren’t too many backfields that are better than the Ohio State duo of TreVeyon Henderson and Miyan Williams. Both will more than likely get significant playing time this fall after a year in which both struggled with some injuries and weren’t quite at full health.

All indications point to the duo being at full speed for the fall, and that should be a really good thing for an OSU offense that must replace three offensive linemen and the starting quarterback.

In a nod to what the two are expected to be in 2023, Henderson and Williams were both on the Doak Walker preseason watch list that was announced on Wednesday.

If you’ve been around college football, we don’t have to tell you what the Doak Walker Award represents. It is handed out annually to the best running back in the country. It is awarded by a national selection committee and has been around since 1990.

Eddie George is the only Ohio State player to ever take the award home when he did so in 1995, the same year that he won the Heisman Trophy.

Top five Ohio State running backs of the last 10 years

Ohio State has had a lot of really good running backs lately. #GoBucks

We have started a new series here at Buckeyes Wire of ranking the top players at each position for Ohio State over the last 10 years. Up next: running backs.

Throughout Ohio State football history many legendary running backs have worn the scarlet and gray. The Buckeyes have had four running backs win the Heisman trophy.  This includes the only player in college football history to win the award twice, Archie Griffin who took home the award in 1974 and 1975.

Eddie George had 2,344 scrimmage yards in 1995 to win the award, and Howard “Hopalong” Cassady became the third Buckeye to win the Heisman in 1955. Vic Janowicz was a jack of all trades as he played tailback, safety, kicker, and punter taking home the award in 1950.

Today, we discuss the stars to play running back for the Buckeyes in recent memory. The list includes running backs who lasted played for Ohio State in the 2013 season or later.

This was a difficult ranking to produce as there are many running backs deserving of praise, but here’s how it all shook out.
