UGA football player card: RB Sevaughn Clark

Georgia Bulldogs running back Sevaughn Clark redshirted in 2019, but saw playing time against Murray State and Arkansas State

Running Back Sevaughn Clark (No. 20):

Class: Redshirt freshman

Height: 6-1

Weight: 215 pounds

Hometown: Dawsonville, Georgia

High School: Dawson County

Georgia Bulldogs running back Sevaughn Clark redshirted in 2019, but saw playing time against Murray State and Arkansas State. Clark will carry experience into next season, but isn’t expected to be a large factor in Georgia’s stacked backfield.

Clark had four carries for 13 yards last season. He came to Athens as an unheralded recruit. He played quarterback and running back in high school, but was more of a threat as a rusher. He additionally ran track for Dawson County.

Clark, a walk-on, has some solid high school highlights. He could potentially step-up to contribute similar to Brian Herrien later in his career.

Clark is in a talented running back room that features Zamir White, James Cook, Kenny McIntosh and more.

UGA football player card: RB Kenny McIntosh

Georgia Bulldogs running back Kenny McIntosh is projected to have a larger role for Todd Monken and UGA’s offense in 2020

Running Back Kenny McIntosh (#6):

Class: Sophomore

Height: 6-1

Weight: 210 pounds

Hometown: Ft. Lauderdale, Florida

High School: University School

Georgia Bulldogs running back Kenny McIntosh is projected to have a larger role for Todd Monken and UGA’s offense in 2020. McIntosh played in twelve games as a freshman.

He averaged seven yards per carry, but only touted the rock 25 times for 174 rushing yards. His 62 yard touchdown against Arkansas State was UGA’s longest rush of the season. McIntosh was a key special teams player for Georgia last season.

Look for him to be more involved in Georgia’s rushing attack next season following the departure of D’Andre Swift. Zamir White is projected to start and James Cook is a beter receiving threat, but McIntosh may be next in line. McIntosh came to Georgia as a four-star recruit from University School.

Kenny’s brother, RJ, played at Miami and recorded two sacks from the defensive tackle position for the New York Giants last season. Will Kenny join his brother in the NFL?

Georgia Bulldogs player card: RB James Cook

Georgia Bulldogs running back Jame Cook is projected to start as the third down back for Todd Monken and UGA’s offense in 2020.

High School: Miami Central High School

Georgia Bulldogs running back Jame Cook is projected to start as the third down back for Todd Monken and UGA’s offense in 2020. Cook has a unique skill-set and is a versatile back, who is a threat as both a runner and a receiver.

Cook gained 320 yards on 47 total touches in 2019. Look for him to be more involved in Georgia’s rushing attack in 2020 following the departure of D’Andre Swift. Zamir White is projected to start, but Cook offers more in obvious passing situations. Cook came to Georgia as a four-star recruit.

As Dawg fans know, James Cook is the younger brother of Minnesota Vikings running back Dalvin Cook.

With Georgia football spring practice postponed, who’s most affected?

In the college football world, it’s hard to imagine that any individual or team benefits from a delayed practice schedule.

It’s old news by now: earlier this month, the SEC cancelled all remaining spring competitions amid COVID-19 concerns. Outlined in an official announcement, the plans to halt play include abandoning spring football scrimmages, events that are open to the public and free to attend at most schools.

Spring football practices have been postponed indefinitely.

In the college football world, it’s hard to imagine that any individual or team benefits from a delayed practice schedule. Maybe a starter with a minor injury has enough extra time to be cleared for full participation, but that’s the only hypothetical that comes to mind.

Of all players, graduate transfers are the most negatively impacted. Finding themselves on new college campuses less than four months after the conclusion of the previous season, these players with only one remaining year of immediate eligibility have less time on the field to gel with their new teammates.

On the Georgia’s Bulldogs’ offense, this includes quarterback Jamie Newman and tight end Tre’ McKitty, grad transfers from Wake Forest and Florida State, respectively.

Pro Football Focus rates Newman as the top returning quarterback among all SEC teams. Though he’s already studying the Silver Britches’ playbook, the lack of face time with his new offensive line, tailbacks, receivers, and tight ends like McKitty prevents Jamie Newman from having the start he and the Bulldog Nation would prefer.

For the lauded dual-threat presupposed to be the Dawgs’ starting quarterback come September, practice limbo couldn’t have come at a worse time in his college career.

Tre’ McKitty has the opportunity to be the second tight end in as many years to lead the position group in receptions after having transferred. Eli Wolf did so last season and hauled in more passes than in his three years at Tennessee combined.

Following the departures of tight ends Wolf and Charlie Woerner, a proven commodity like McKitty can still pull it off, but it’ll be a great deal more difficult without the “head start” of starting on time.

They will practice under newly appointed offensive coordinator Todd Monken. Without witnessing drills firsthand, the postponement gives Monken (and all other coaches in their first seasons at a new program) significantly less time to develop game plans with their available personnel.

This is exceptionally more challenging when scheming with players who have no game film playing for Georgia.

Right now, any coordinator might have a pretty good idea of how a freshman, transfer, or graduate transfer fits into their team based upon film from their previous team (collegiate or high school), but that idea isn’t as good as it’d be if these players were on the field getting in some reps together.

New additions should open up the Georgia football passing game

With the addition of an elite tight end recruit and a grad transfer, UGA football improves on offense.

The University of Georgia Bulldogs have the top recruiting class in the whole nation as of noon on National Signing Day. In the Early Signing Period, head coach Kirby Smart and his subordinate recruiters were already able to sign 19 key incoming high school recruits, including a run on top talent from out of state. None looms larger than 5-star Darnell Washington, the 6-7 tight end out of Las Vegas, considered one of the elite athletes at any position.

Under outgoing one-year offensive coordinator James Coley, the Bulldogs struggled to pass the ball to the middle of the football field, and at times had trouble converting on third downs. Thusly, the defense had to keep UGA in low-scoring games. With Air Raid expert Todd Monken taking over the play calling duties, and a couple other very experienced coaching minds added to the offensive think tank, scoring should increase in 2020.

The spotlight shines brightest on Wake Forest grad transfer Jamie Newman, the presumed starter under center in Athens. But also keep an eye out for FSU grad transfer Tre’ McKitty (6-5), another tall tight end weapon.

Newman’s dual-threat arsenal includes his ability to run the football, which will draw defensive attention. The plan seems to be for Monken to open up the passing offense. Georgia loses stud runner D’Andre Swift to the NFL along with four offensive line starters, but the middle of the football field should be relatively open for tight ends to roam free and move the chains.

Salary released for new Georgia football OC Todd Monken

Salary info has been reported for new Georgia football OC Todd Monken,.

New Georgia offensive coordinator Todd Monken was recently hired by Kirby Smart to bring the Bulldogs’ passing game up to speed with the rest of college football.

Monken, who previously coached as the offensive coordinator for the Cleveland Browns and Tampa Bay Bucs, will take over for James Coley calling plays.

Per contract information obtained by DawgNation, we now know Monken’s salary at Georgia.

Monken will be earningΒ $1.1 million as Georgia’s offensive coordinator in 2020.

According to the College Football Assistant Coach Salaries database at USA TODAY, that figure will make Monken a top-15 paid assistant in college football. There are only two offensive coordinators who earn more than Monken – Steve Sarkisian at Alabama ($1.55m) and Jim Chaney at Tennessee ($1.5m).

Coley, who remains on staff at the moment, earned $950,000 last season as offensive coordinator of the Bulldogs.

As reported by 247Sports, new UGA quality control analyst Buster Faulkner will earn a $150,000 salary.

Georgia football: Kirby Smart just keeps reloading

Georgia football and Kirby Smart just keep reloading.

Georgia’s 2019 offense left a lot to be desired, even with three year starter Jake Fromm under center.

The defense is what ultimately got Georgia as far as it went last season, while other SEC powerhouses – Alabama and LSU – were able to adapt to the current trends and put up record breaking offensive numbers.

Georgia, though, stayed behind, sticking to its possession-style offense. And it did not work great.

So, when Fromm announced he was declaring for the NFL Draft and skipping his senior season, there was real concern among DawgNation. If Georgia’s offense was mediocre with Fromm, how bad would it be next year with potentially a true freshman slinging it around?

Luckily for Georgia, Kirby Smart went out and secured graduate transfer quarterback Jamie Newman from Wake Forest. In Newman the Bulldogs get an experienced signal caller who can make any throw on the field and is more than capable of taking off and running if asked to.

And then there’s offensive line coach Sam Pittman, who left to take the head coaching job at Arkansas. When he left, so did four of our starting offensive linemen. Three declared for the draft and one, Cade Mays, transferred to Tennessee. We can’t bring back the four departed linemen, but Smart did the next best thing by hiring former Ole Miss head coach Matt Luke as offensive line coach — a move that has been praised nationwide.

And today, Friday, Smart made another big splash when it was reported that he has hired Cleveland Browns offensive coordinator Todd Monken to replace James Coley. With Monken now calling the plays, Coley is expected to slide into another role within the Georgia offense, ESPN’s Schlabach reported.

On a recruiting level, Smart has been to his same old success. The Dawgs have the third ranked recruiting class and could still climb to No. 2 if all the chips fall in place.

Just a few weeks ago, Georgia fans were in their annual widespread panic about the future of the Bulldogs. And as he’s done the past 4 years, Smart quickly put an end to that panic.

With two big hires and securing Newman in Athens, there’s no reason to think the Dawgs won’t be back contending for a title again next year.

Georgia hires former NFL coordinator to take over play calling

After a mediocre offensive performance last season, Kirby Smart has hired NFL offensive coordinator Todd Monken to take over the call playing duties in 2020. ESPN’s Mark Schlabach reported Monken’s hiring and a reshuffling of the offensive staff. …

After a mediocre offensive performance last season, Kirby Smart has hired NFL offensive coordinator Todd Monken to take over the call playing duties in 2020.

ESPN’s Mark Schlabach reported Monken’s hiring and a reshuffling of the offensive staff.

β€œMonken will take over playcalling duties for the Bulldogs this coming season, after their offense struggled at times in 2019. Georgia was fifth in the SEC in scoring (30.8 points per game), total offense (408.1 yards), passing (223.0) and rushing (185.1). Georgia assistant coach James Coley, who called offensive plays this past season, is expected to move into a new role. Former Ole Miss coach Matt Luke previously joined Georgia’s staff to replace offensive line coach Sam Pittman, who left to become head coach at Arkansas.”

Monken, 53, spent the 2019 season as the offensive coordinator for the Cleveland Browns. He directed the NFL’s top passing offense while calling plays for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2016 thru 2018. He is considered an expert in the “Air-Raid” style of offense.Β The coaching move appears the Georgia offense will open up next season and fit the talents of incoming grad transfer Jamie Newman.

He was the quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator for Oklahoma State in 2011 and 2012, where the Cowboys ranked second in the nation in scoring offense (48.7 points per game) and second in passing offense (387.2 ypg) during his first season and third in the nation in scoring (45.6 ppg), fourth in total offense (547.0 ypg) and seventh in passing (331.7 ypg) during his second year. He also was the quarterbacks coach under Les Miles at LSU and head coach at Southern Miss for three years.

Georgia’s offense ranked 61st in the nation in total offense (408.1 ypg) in 2019, 72nd in passing (223.0 ypg) and 50th in scoring (30.8 ppg).
