5-star offensive tackle sets May official visit with LSU

The Tigers are looking to add another elite prospect to the 2025 recruiting class.

LSU already has one of the top recruiting classes in the 2025 cycle, holding commitments from the top quarterback, running back and receiver in the class, which includes No. 1 overall prospect quarterback [autotag]Bryce Underwood[/autotag].

Now, the Tigers are looking to add one of the top offensive tackles in the cycle to that group. They’ve set an official visit for May 22 with Michael Fasusi, a five-star offensive tackle from Lewisville, Texas.

Fasusi ranks as the No. 13 player nationally and the No. 3 offensive tackle in the class per the 247Sports Composite. The 6-foot-5, 300-pounder has also set official visits to Texas A&M, Texas and Oklahoma, all of which will take place in June.

LSU seemingly has some ground to make up with Fasusi, and the in-state Texas Longhorns are a heavy favorite according to On3. Coach Steve Sarkisian’s team also holds three Crystal Ball projections to land Fasusi, according to 247Sports.

Four-star RB Rickey Stewart commits to Texas

Texas recruiting is starting to pick up as another elite running back chooses the Longhorns.

The Texas Longhorns’ 2025 recruiting class is starting to pick up steam. The Longhorns added yet another elite running back after leading the way in recruiting at the position the last couple of seasons.

Running backs coach Tashard Choice earned a commitment from Chapel Hill (TX) running back Rickey Stewart on Saturday. He ranks as the No. 20 overall running back and No. 247 overall player in the 247Sports composite, but those rankings might too heavily weigh the smaller school competition Stewart played against.

Stewart saw offers from Alabama, Michigan, Oregon, Tennessee and Ole Miss among others after an impressive early start to his career. In his sophomore and junior seasons combined, Stewart ran for 5,117 yards, 68 touchdowns and around 10 yards per carry.

He would add another elite recruit to Texas running back coach Tashard Choice’s resume. Choice has brought his fair share of blue chippers to Austin including five-star back CJ Baxter and elite recruits in Jerrick Gibson and Christian Clark.

Texas will look to build momentum off the strong recruiting start.

Updated look at college football’s 2025 recruiting class rankings

Texas only holds four commits for the 2025 cycle at this time.

It’s still fairly early for the 2025 recruiting cycle, but it appears Texas is taking the quality over quantity approach for the time being. Continue reading “Updated look at college football’s 2025 recruiting class rankings”

Texas lands commitment from Westlake K Spencer Barnett

Texas might have found its kicker of the future.

The Texas Longhorns earned a commitment from Austin Westlake kicker Spencer Barnett on Friday. It might be more significant than you would expect.

Barnett showed above average ability at the high school level. The Austin native has already booted a 59-yard field goal in his time at Westlake high school. What would be impressive for an NFL kicker is the case for the high school player.

There’s more to being a kicker than making long range kicks. Consistency in shorter field goals would prove more valuable over the course of a season. Nevertheless, Barnett’s power will be a useful tool on the football field.

As Texas heads to a more competitive conference, its margin for error will decrease. Having a top kicker becomes an even higher priority for the team. The Longhorns hope they have found their kicker of the future.

Texas will look for continued success on the recruiting trail over the summer.

Texas commit Tre Johnson shines in McDonalds All-American game

Tre Johnson showcases three-point range in McDonald’s All-American game.

Texas guard commit Tre Johnson is a threat from the three-point line. That much is evident from his performance at the McDonald’s All-American game.

In the game, Johnson stepped into a fast break three-pointer off the dribble to sink the long range basket for his team. The shot prompted the broadcast crew to comment on his long range shooting ability. The broadcaster gave the following analysis.

“He has an NBA scoring package. He knows how to get to his spots, he’s got great footwork, he’s got range, he’s got the pull-up.”

The above description of the Houston prospect bodes well for a Texas team that needs all of the above qualities from its wing players next season. The Longhorns lacked those qualities on the court in 2024. Johnson will likely need help from veteran portal additions to improve Texas from its last campaign, but has the skill set to make an impact for the team right away.

Texas will determine the right role for the Houston native as he works with the team this offseason.

Texas makes five-star OT Michael Fasusi’s top seven schools

Five-star tackle Michael Fasusi has Texas as one of his top seven choices.

Five-star offensive tackle Michael Fasusi has narrowed his top schools list to seven teams. The Texas Longhorns are among the teams in the hunt.

The elite 2025 recruit has been one of the highest priorities for the Longhorns this offseason. Offensive line play resurrected Texas from a decade of average to a College Football Playoff berth.

No doubt offensive line coach Kyle Flood and head coach Steve Sarkisian verbalize the importance of the unit. The track record of five-star offensive linemen to Texas since Sarkisian began in Austin indicates recruits know their value to the team.

Fasusi would join elite 2024 tackle Brandon Baker and Texas starters Kelvin Banks Jr. and DJ Campbell as top offensive line prospects to pledge to Texas should he choose the Longhorns.

With Banks developing into a potential high first-round pick and all-American candidate, development is a positive talking point for Texas.

We’ll continue to follow Fasusi’s recruitment closely.
