Texas commit Tre Johnson shines in McDonalds All-American game

Tre Johnson showcases three-point range in McDonald’s All-American game.

Texas guard commit Tre Johnson is a threat from the three-point line. That much is evident from his performance at the McDonald’s All-American game.

In the game, Johnson stepped into a fast break three-pointer off the dribble to sink the long range basket for his team. The shot prompted the broadcast crew to comment on his long range shooting ability. The broadcaster gave the following analysis.

“He has an NBA scoring package. He knows how to get to his spots, he’s got great footwork, he’s got range, he’s got the pull-up.”

The above description of the Houston prospect bodes well for a Texas team that needs all of the above qualities from its wing players next season. The Longhorns lacked those qualities on the court in 2024. Johnson will likely need help from veteran portal additions to improve Texas from its last campaign, but has the skill set to make an impact for the team right away.

Texas will determine the right role for the Houston native as he works with the team this offseason.

He committed to the Longhorns during an appearance on the Pat McAfee Show and credited former Texas Longhorns star Kevin Durant.

Johnson, standing at 6-foot-6, 190-pounds, is widely considered one of the top scorers in the country due to his elite ability to put the ball in the basket. He shoots 80% from the free throw line, and though he is a scorer, he averages nearly four assists per game.

Rodney Terry has done an exceptional job recruiting since becoming head coach, securing a bright future for the Longhorns.

Early signing period: Tre Johnson, a 5-star guard from Texas, announces his top two schools

Tre Johnson has narrowed his recruitment down to two schools.

Tre Johnson remains one of the top uncommitted high school basketball players in the nation, but it appears that the five-star guard has honed in on a final two.

And while a number of top players have already signed in this class, what with the early signing period having started on Wednesday, Johnson has yet to give a verbal. It makes for an intriguing recruitment, as it appears that two schools in Texas have distanced themselves from the pack in Johnson’s recruitment.

A 6-foot-6 guard from Link Academy (Dallas, Texas), Johnson is one of the top players in the nation and is ranked the fifth-best recruit in the 2024 class by 247Sports.

“I’m down to Baylor and Texas right now,” Johnson said according to Sports Illustrated. “I’m just trying to get a feel of it, trying to see different games, see their style of play and see different guys on their teams that could be me in that position.”

He is the second-highest ranked recruit who is uncommitted. The highest-ranked recruit withot giving a verbal is five-star guard Dylan Harper from Don Bosco Prep (Ramsey, New Jersey).

According to Adam Zagoria (of Zags Blog and NJ Advanced Media) there is no indication of if the-five star will be signing with a team over the next week.

The early signing period will conclude on Nov. 15.

Five-star shooting guard Tre Johnson cancels visits, is down to two schools

Tre Johnson is down to two schools as the a decision is fast approaching.

Tre Johnson seems to be winding down his recruitment with the five-star guard canceling the remainder of his visits.

The class of 2025 recruit is down to Baylor and Texas, with Johnson cutting programs Alabama, Arkansas, Kansas and Kentucky from his final list. A 6-foot-5 shooting guard from Link Academy (Dallas), Johnson is a consensus five-star recruit and is ranked a top-five player nationally by all four recruiting services.

He is the No. 4 recruit in the nation according to ESPN and for good reason. Johnson is a confident and creative scorer who has the ability to create off the dribble. He has a nice touch on his jump shot.

There is good range to his game and he is effective when posting up.

According to the On3 Prediction Machine, Baylor is the favorite to land Johnson at 38.2 percent. Predictably, it is Texas at second with 33.4 percent.

His father, Richard Johnson, played his college basketball at Baylor and Midwestern State. He is in the Hall of Honor at Midwestern.

Alabama basketball listed as a top-six finalist for the No. 1 player in the 2024 class

Alabama basketball in the hunt for the top player in the 2024 recruiting class

Tre Johnson, the No. 1 player in the 2024 recruiting cycle, has narrowed his list down to six schools, including the Crimson Tide. It will be an all-out war to land his commitment as Alabama is up against some very reputable programs such as Kentucky, Texas, Arkansas, Kansas and Baylor.

Johnson is a 6-foot-5, 180 pound shooting guard out of Dallas, Texas who is already a very polished shooter. He’s great in a spot-up shooting type of role but also has the ability to create his own shot with such a lengthy frame. He has the ability to get hot and take a game over at any minute. Johnson has already scored 2,000 career points in high school and has been lighting it up on the spring AAU tour.

The only other time Alabama landed the No. 1 player coming out of high school was Brandon Miller; needless to say, he was sensational for the Tide. Oats’ has been incredible on the recruiting trail during his tenure in Tuscaloosa, and the addition of Johnson would really keep that momentum going.

All schools make sense for Johnson, but if he wants to be the guy, Alabama makes the most sense. He will essentially have a green light anytime he crosses over half court and will have a chance to grow and improve on the defensive end.

Are Tar Heels amping up pursuit for five-star guard?

Hubert Davis and the UNC basketball program are among the teams that this five-star recruit says is reaching out the most.

The pursuit for five-star shooting guard [autotag]Tre Johnson[/autotag] continues on for Hubert Davis and the UNC basketball staff. North Carolina has yet to land a commitment in the 2024 recruiting class but there’s no reason to worry as there’s a long ways to go.

And it appears as if the Tar Heels have their eyes on Johnson as one of the key recruits they are targeting.

The Dallas, Texas native is ranked No. 3 overall in the 247Sports recruiting rankings and with 18 offers in his recruitment, things are certainly heating up. Johnson recently caught up with Alex Karamanos of Circuit Scouting to dish on his recruitment and which teams are pursuing him the most:

Tre Johnson: “The most, I know Kentucky, Duke, North Carolina, Gonzaga, Arkansas, Kansas, LSU, Florida State, Texas, Baylor, and Stanford. Those are the main schools that have been hitting me up.”

Johnson is being pursued by blue bloods UNC, Kentucky, Kansas, and Duke as well as in-state programs Texas and Baylor. Gonzaga is also in the mix to land him as well.

The 6-foot-5, 180-pound guard is a player that does fit what Davis wants to do with his roster for the future so it’s not shocking to see the Tar Heels consistently reaching out. The next goal should be getting him on campus for a visit.

Report: 2024 five-star SG Tre Johnson sets Texas official visit

One of the nation’s best prospects is set to take an official visit to Texas.

One of the nation’s best high school prospects, Tre Johnson, has set an official visit date to Texas on Sept. 17.

The Dallas native is listed as the No. 1 player in the state of Texas and the No. 3 player overall in the 2024 recruiting class according to the 247Sports composite. Johnson is a can’t miss talent with offers from all over the country.

247Sports recruiting analyst Brandon Jenkins has glowing remarks about Johnson in his scouting report.

A long and lean perimeter prospect who shows a sweet stroke, Johnson is as true of a shooting guard as there is the 2024 class. He is trememdously skilled with an advanced game for his age. Johnson is a very good jumpshooter of the catch or utilizing the rhythm dribble and he loves the mid range game. He knows how to play and has a good feel for the game. I would like to see him improve as a ball handler and decision maker versus pressure in the backcourt to one day gain ultimate confidence in that area. Adding to that area of his game will only increase his versatility as a scorer but nevertheless Johnson is a polished high major talent with a tremendous upside.

Keeping a talent like Johnson in-state would be a monumental victory for Chris Beard and the Longhorns program. Texas will get to make the first impression for the five-star shooting guard.
