Five-star wide receiver Evan Stewart to attend Texas-Oklahoma

A huge visitor for Texas this weekend.

Texas’ 2022 recruiting class may be ranked inside the top five but there are still a few pieces missing. Especially on the offensive side of the ball.

You would think Steve Sarkisian would be able to attract the best skill position players in the country to Austin. Running back has been successful thus far, landing four-stars Jaydon Blue and Jamarion Miller.

Wide receiver has been a different story.

Four-star Armani Winfield is the only pass-catcher committed, with a few prospects still high up on the board. Five-star Evan Stewart has and will continue to be the No. 1 priority.

The former Texas commit has yet to visit Austin this fall. Sarkisian getting to show off the offense in person was always going to be a huge selling point to secure another commitment.

Now, the head coach will have the opportunity to impress Stewart live in Dallas.

According to Mike Roach of Horns247, Stewart will be attending the Red River Shootout for Texas. The five-star receiver has “dreamed” of attending the game and will be making those dreams a reality on Saturday.

Stewart was recently in the news for forgoing the remaining parts of his senior season. He will be “mentally and physically preparing” himself for the college football level. Wrapping up the recruiting process will occur as well.

Texas desperately needs an elite receiver in the 2022 class and not many are better than Stewart. His combination of speeds, hands, and vertical ability make him the perfect player for Sarkisian’s offense. Impressing at the Cotton Bowl is a must.

On the 247Sports composite, Stewart is the No. 1 player in the state and the top wide receiver in the country. Overall, he is the No. 3 prospect in the 2022 class.

Oklahoma opens as favorites over Texas in Red River Shootout

Texas-Oklahoma always seems to be a close one!

Name a big-time rivalry in college football. Alabama-Auburn, Michigan-Ohio State, Florida-Georgia. The week leading into the game, most people say “throw out the record books, this game is close no matter what.” Most of the time, those people are lying. Plenty of blowouts happen on a yearly basis.

The Red River Shootout is different. The Red River Shootout actually does throw out the record books. The Red River Shootout is close no matter what.

Seven consecutive games at the Cotton Bowl have been decided by a touchdown or less. Texas’ last double-digit win came in 2008 during the famous 45-35 game. Oklahoma’s was in 2012 in a 63-21 drubbing.

We may not know who is going to win on Saturday, but there is an excellent chance it’s a nail-biter in the fourth quarter. Tipico Sportsbook agrees as well, only favoring the Sooners by 3.5. The overall record may not be the best, but Texas has covered in seven of the last 10 Red River Shootouts.

So who is the real winner?

Steve Sarkisian and Lincoln Riley will be facing off the first time in the Cotton Bowl for what should be an offensive showdown. 63.5 points may intrigue some people with two top 15 scoring offenses set to take the field.

ESPN College Gameday heading to Dallas for Texas-Oklahoma

College Gameday is heading to the Cotton Bowl!

Yeah, they’re coming, to your city. Well, kind of.

ESPN announced College Gameday will be heading to Dallas for this season’s Red River Shootout. Texas (4-1, 2-0 Big 12) will be facing off against Oklahoma (5-0, 2-0 Big 12). According to the USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches poll, it will once again be a ranked matchup — the fourth in four years.

Also under consideration could have been the top-five matchup between Iowa and Penn State. However, with Fox’s Big Noon Kickoff heading to Iowa City and broadcasting the game, ESPN decided to promote a game on their own network.

College Gameday last showed up to Red River in 2018 where Cameron Dicker famously hit a game-winning field goal. 2001, 2002, 2008, 2009, and 2011 matchups also saw the crew roll into the State Fair.

Steve Sarkisian vs Lincoln Riley will face off against each other for the first time and it should be a sight to see. Both have top 15 scoring offenses five games into the season.

Taking control of the Big 12 is at stake as well. Whoever is able to win on Saturday will have a leg up toward making the conference’s championship game in December. Even if a win is achieved in Dallas, both know the other could end up in Arlington.

As it should be, Texas-Oklahoma will kick off at 11 a.m. this Saturday on ABC.

Texas expected to play both Oklahoma and Texas A&M every season in the SEC

According to Dennis Dodd of CBS Sports, Texas will play both Oklahoma and Texas A&M every year. The Sooners and Aggies should go back to facing off annually as well.

If you’ve been taking a 10-year nap, congrats, nothing has changed. To the rest of us, welcome back to the way things are meant to be.

When Texas A&M left for the SEC in 2012, a major void was left on the back end of Texas’ schedule. There was no Thanksgiving Day game, rivalry, or excitement. College football in the state felt different.

With the news of the Longhorns heading to the SEC, it seems as if the annual Lone Star Showdown is going to be back on.

According to Dennis Dodd of CBS Sports, Texas will play both Oklahoma and Texas A&M every year. The Sooners and Aggies should go back to facing off annually as well.

For Texas-Oklahoma, nothing is going to change. The smell of fried food at The State Fair of Texas will surround a Cotton Bowl split 50/50 of burnt orange and crimson. Nothing like it in college football.

As with everything surrounding the in-state rivalry, there should be some argument as to which school gets to host the rebirth. Texas A&M famously hosted the 2011 matchup, sending it into the sunset. Or so we thought.

No matter your opinion of the move to the SEC, Texas and Texas A&M are meant to play each other. Getting them and Oklahoma on the calendar every year is a major scheduling boost for Chris Del Conte.

Texas CB D’Shawn Jamison: ‘I wish the OU game was at night’

Everybody’s favorite offseason topic is the kickoff for the Red River Shootout. Texas CB D’Shawn Jamison believes it should be at night.

Outside of debating the Texas-Texas A&M rivalry, everybody’s favorite offseason topic is the kickoff time for the Red River Shootout.

Texas-Oklahoma has been playing at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas since the 1932 season. Traditionally, the game has kicked off during the 11 a.m. or 2:30 window. For years, fans have been asking for a night game between the two bitter rivals.

Even players want in on the action.

For the first time since the 2017 matchup, ESPN will get to broadcast Texas-OU. Fox used the rivalry as their Big Noon Kickoff from 2018-2020, but the worldwide leader has yet to announce a start time for the 2021 edition.

Texas cornerback D’Shawn Jamison has begun to campaign for the later kickoff time to finally happen. “I wish the OU game was at night,” Jamison said via Twitter on Wednesday.

Now, there are multiple reasons as to why a night game could be seen as a hazard. First off, no matter when kickoff is, both Texas and Oklahoma fans are going to begin their festivities before sunrise. By 11 a.m., some can already be feeling good. Now imagine a full 12 hours.

Others will argue Fair Park would not be the safest area when the sun goes down. However, the State Fair Classic between Grambling State and Prarie View A&M kicked off at 4 p.m. in 2019. By the end of the game, it would have been dark. It can be done.

Premier games going up against Texas-Oklahoma on Oct. 9 include Auburn-Georgia, Alabama-Texas A&M (one of these will be a 2:30 CBS kickoff), and Notre Dame-Virginia Tech.

The Red River Shootout will undoubtedly the biggest and closest game of the day. Hopefully, ESPN/ABC considers scheduling a later kickoff.

Texas Football Recruiting: Longhorns jump Oklahoma to claim Big 12’s No. 1 2022 class

With four-star wide receiver Evan Stewart’s commitment, Texas has surpassed Oklahoma as the No. 1 class in the Big 12. .

Texas landed its biggest commitment of the 2022 class late Thursday night in four-star wide receiver Evan Stewart. Head coach Steve Sarkisian quickly recognized the lack of elite speed in the wide receiver room and fixed it by making one of the top in-state prospects a priority.

With the commitment, Texas has surpassed Oklahoma as the No. 1 class in the Big 12 according to 247Sports. On a national scale, the Longhorns are at No. 5 overall and the Sooners are just behind them at No. 6.

Sarkisian and his staff currently have six commitments with five-star quarterback Maalik Murphy leading the way. The No. 1 in-state running back (Jaydon Blue) and two of the top three in-state wide receivers (Stewart and Armani Winfield) follow him. Four-star cornerback Jaylon Guilbeau and three-star inside linebacker Trevell Johnson round out Texas’ current class.

Oklahoma currently has five verbal pledges. Five-star running back/wide receiver Raleek Brown is their top prospect, while Texas natives Kobie McKinzie and Jordan Hudson round out the Sooners’ class.

Despite Texas taking the lead over Oklahoma in mid-February, there is still a long way to go. The two rivals are going to be battling for top players until National Signing Day in December.

The Texas-Oklahoma rivalry is going to be just as intense in the recruiting world as the annual meeting at the Cotton Bowl. All facets of Sarkisian against Lincoln Riley will bring entertainment for years to come.

Just when you thought COVID-19 was the only thing that could delay sporting events, mother nature reappeared.

According to Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports, the Texas-Oklahoma basketball game has been postponed by a night. This marks the second consecutive day the matchup has been delayed.

Originally scheduled for Tuesday, the inclement weather sweeping the nation has moved it to Thursday. A date and time have yet to be announced.

It will be a quick turnaround after the Oklahoma matchup, as No. 13 West Virginia will be in town on Saturday afternoon. In the current climate college basketball is in, teams must be able to adapt and be willing to play games whenever they can.

Texas is 13-5 overall and 7-4 in the Big 12. Thursday’s hopeful matchup with Oklahoma is an important one, with the Sooners looking to sweep the Longhorns for the first time since the 2014-2015 season.
