A Texas vs. Texas Tech battle shaping up for five-star WR Micah Hudson

Texas and Texas Tech still appear to be the front runners for five-star Micah Hudson.

The top wide receiver prospect in the state of Texas has locked in a couple of summer official visits. Inside Texas reports five-star Micah Hudson is set to see both Texas and Texas Tech in June.

Hudson is a dynamic playmaker with offers from all over the nation. His plus athleticism and crisp route running ability give him an opportunity to make an early impact at the college level.

Steve Sarkisian and the Texas staff have prioritized Hudson in the 2024 cycle. Texas can sell a chance at early playing time, a wide receiver-friendly system and a talented quarterback room.

Texas Tech deserves credit for fighting with the big dogs of college football in this recruitment. Hudson’s interest in Tech is genuine and the Red Raider coaching staff is in a good position for the five-star.

The Longhorns and Red Raiders are two schools that have been front runners for Hudson from the get-go. Ohio State is firmly in the mix, along with Georgia and Texas A&M, but Texas and Texas Tech seem to be in the lead.

The 247Sports’ composite lists Wingo as the No. 22 overall player in the nation and the No. 5 wide receiver in the class. He has more than 40 offers from programs all over the country.

Wingo is a two-sport star who excels on both the football field and the track. He possesses the elite top-end speed to stretch the field as a downfield threat and strong hands as a pass catcher. Wingo has the skills to be an immediate contributor at the college level.

The recruiting battle for Wingo is set to be a tight one. Georgia is the current favorite to land the elite pass catcher, but the competition can gain ground with the upcoming visits. He has no timetable for a commitment.

One of the state’s best wide receivers is set to visit Texas over the weekend.

Five-star wideout Johntay Cook announced via Twitter he is making the trip to Austin. He is coming off recent visits to both Oregon and Michigan.

247Sports rates Cook as the No. 6 wide receiver in the nation and the No. 6 overall prospect in Texas.

Cook is one of Texas’ top targets in the 2023 cycle. He snagged 38 passes for 806 yards and 19 touchdowns as a junior at Desoto High School. His game changing speed and route running makes Cook an ideal fit for Steve Sarkisian’s offense.

Cook will be joined by an impressive group of visitors on campus for the last weekend of June.

Texas adds five-star WR Evan Stewart to star-studded visitor list for Oklahoma State game

You can add five-star WR Evan Stewart to the already star-studded list of recruits in Austin this weekend.

Texas’ list of prospects visiting for the Oklahoma State game is continuing to grow less than 24 hours before kickoff. Some of the top prospects in the country plus current Longhorn commits will be in attendance.

Arch Manning, Malik Agbo, Jacoby Matthews, and recent Alabama tight end commit Jaleel Skinner are some of the names planning on being in town this weekend.

You can add five-star wide receiver Evan Stewart to the group as well. He confirmed on Friday morning a trip to Austin would be in store, just a week after watching the Red River Shootout in Dallas.

Stewart instantly becomes the top priority from the 2022 class on a visit. The need at wide receiver is too good for Texas to miss out on. Alabama and Florida have been chasing after him as well but getting a visit two weekends in a row is monumental.

An impressive offensive performance (mainly from Xavier Worthy) and a win in front of Stewart would give Steve Sarkisian the ability to make a strong close-out push. Texas once had the five-star locked down but needs to make sure they can end the recruitment for good.

Landing a commitment from Brenen Thompson was the first step in Sarkisian’s rebuild of the wide receiver room. Adding Stewart would fast-track the project into an almost complete stage. It’s all about speed.

Don’t forget about four-star Armani Winfield either. He may not be as quick as Stewart and Thompson, but is one of the best pass-catchers in the state.

Those three would make up for one of the best pass-catching hauls in the country.

On the 247Sports composite, Stewart is the No. 1 player in the state of Texas and the top receiver in the class. On the national scale, he ranks as the No. 3 overall prospect.

LOOK: Texas recruits attempt to get five-star WR Evan Stewart to Austin

Everything began with a few eyeball emojis — as things seem to do in this day and age.

Wednesday was a major turning point in Texas’ 2022 recruiting class. Four-star Brenen Thompson announced his commitment, instantly changing the dynamic of the Longhorns’ wide receiver room. He is one of the fastest prospects in the country, let alone the state.

A few hours later, Twitter was set on fire with the possibility of another elite wide receiver committing.

Everything began with a few eyeball emojis — as things seem to do in this day and age. Director of Recruiting Brandon Harris sent a few out, as did Courtney Helom. The player of interest? Five-star Evan Stewart.

Stewart decided to quote tweet with his own eyeball emojis and sent Texas recruiting Twitter into a madhouse. Soon thereafter, some of the top commits in the 2022 cycle began tweeting out #EvanStewarttoAustin, trying to get him back in the class.

He plans on being in Dallas for the Red River Shootout this weekend. A win against Oklahoma could be the final straw, forcing Stewart to shut down his recruitment and join Thompson and Armani Winfield as wide receiver commits.

Either way, we know Texas is trying its hardest and is not scared to keep it a secret.
