Steve Sarkisian says Texas S Jalen Catalon likely won’t play on Saturday

The Longhorns will likely be without their hard-hitting safety on Saturday against Kansas State.

During Thursday’s media press conference, Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian mentioned that safety Jalen Catalon likely won’t be available for Saturday’s game against No. 23 Kansas State.

Catalon is playing his first year with the Longhorns after transferring from Arkansas in December. The hard-hitting safety has unfortunately had nagging injuries all season, forcing him not to play as much as he would like.

The senior safety has one forced fumble and 15 total tackles on the year and makes an immediate impact when he is on the field.

If Catalon can stay healthy down the stretch, the Longhorns’ defense will benefit significantly from his hard-hitting and playmaking abilities.

Texas Longhorns Basketball: BetMGM odds, how to watch the Kansas State game

UT is in desperate need of a victory after dropping three straight games. Here are the BetMGM odds plus how to watch the Kansas State game.

Texas is in desperate need of a victory Tuesday night after dropping three consecutive games. Oklahoma, Baylor and Oklahoma State have all taken advantage of a Longhorn squad coming off a COVID-19 pause while recovering from the virus themselves.

Luckily, Texas is traveling to Manhattan, Kansas, to face the 5-15 (1-10 in Big 12 play) Kansas State Wildcats. Losers of 10 straight, the Wildcats have not won since Dec. 29 against Omaha. Texas beat the Wildcats in Austin on Jan. 16, 82-67.

In the double-overtime loss to Oklahoma State, Texas shot 34.1% from the floor and 14.3% from behind the 3-point line. Courtney Ramey was an abysmal 1-of-9 from deep. If the Longhorns want to get back to their winning ways in the Big 12, their shooting must improve against the Wildcats.

Texas Longhorns Basketball: Three reasons for the win over Kansas State

Texas responded from their first Big 12 loss of the season with a resounding victory over Kansas State. Here are three reasons for the win.

Texas responded from their first Big 12 loss of the season with a resounding victory over Kansas State. Coming off of the Longhorns’ two losses on the 2020-2021 season, they have bounced back by winning the next two games by an average of 18.0 points.

Without the likes of Greg Brown, Kai Jones, and Brock Cunninghman available due to COVID-19 protocols, Kamaka Hepa had to step up in their absence. He finished with 15 points and was the team’s second-leading scorer.

Three other Longhorns were in double figures. They are now back on the right track in Big 12 play, currently in second place with a 5-1 record. Here are three reasons for Texas’ win over Kansas State on Saturday night.

Texas Basketball: How to watch the Kansas State game

Kansas State will come to Austin with a 1-4 record in the Big 12. Here is how to watch, listen and stream the game on Saturday night.

Texas is coming off of their first conference loss to Texas Tech. Matt McClung hit a game-winning shot after the Longhorns let a halftime lead slip away from them. Both of their losses this season have come at home.

Now, Kansas State will come to Austin. The Wildcats have struggled this season, having a 5-8 overall and a 1-4 Big 12 record. It has been a week since they have taken the court, coming off a 16 point loss to Oklahoma State.

For Texas, this is the type of game you cannot lose. Kansas State is not an NCAA Tournament level team and based on the latest NET Rankings, they would be a Quadrant Four loss for the Longhorns. Courtney Ramey, Matt Coleman and company must respond in a big way.

Texas Longhorns Football: Five reasons for the 69-31 win over Kansas State

Despite dealing with off-field distractions, UT produced a good win over Kansas State. Five reasons the Longhorns pulled it off.

It was a week filled with distractions surrounding the Texas program. Constant updates and rumors about who was going to be the next head coach ruled the day. Despite that, the Longhorns blocked out the noise and got back on track with an impressive win over Kansas State.

Both sides of the ball were brilliant at times. Especially on the offensive end on the ground. Running backs Bijan Robinson and Roschon Johnson carried the offense, combining for 399 rushing yards.

For the defense, it was about forcing turnovers. The defense put Sam Ehlinger in advantageous positions to get extra points on the board. Allowing 31 points may not seem the best, but it was an impressive performance.

Here are five reasons Texas beat Kansas State:

Texas Football: Bijan Robinson provides the stat of the game

Bijan Robinson was an electric back for the Texas Longhorns on Saturday against Kansas State. He even reached a huge feat in this game.

In the Longhorns’ biggest victory on the season in terms of margin of victory, there was no bigger player than Bijan Robinson for Texas. Continue reading “Texas Football: Bijan Robinson provides the stat of the game”

Texas Longhorns vs Kansas State Wildcats: Instant analysis of the 69-31 win

If you like offense, this was the game for you. Texas got the best of KSU in a shootout, winning their sixth game of the season, 69-31.

If you like offense, this was the game for you. Texas got the best of Kansas State in a shootout, winning their sixth game of the season, 69-31.

Tom Herman and Mike Yurcich decided to get back to running the ball and did so in a dominant fashion. Both Roschon Johnson and Bijan Robinson had monster days, combing for six touchdowns. Robinson led the way with 172 yards on nine carries, while Johnson had 14 carries for 139 yards.

Kansas State was effective on the ground as well, utilizing Duece Vaughn. He led the Wildcats in rushing with 125 yards and two touchdowns. Quarterback Will Howard was effective as a runner as well, having 18 carries.

A lot of true freshmen were in the spotlight for the Longhorns on Saturday. Past Robinson, safety Jerrin Thompson and center Jake Majors made substantial impacts. Seeing younger plays perform well after the opt-outs of Samuel Cosmi and Caden Sterns brings a small glimmer of hope for the future.

The offensive explosion felt one week too late. Where was this efficiency against Iowa State? Yes, the Cyclones are a substantially better team than Kansas State. However, Yurcich’s play calling did not click soon enough.

Despite the big win, the elephant in the room is still Herman and his job security. Was it enough to keep him around for the rest of the season? Or will athletic director Chris Del Conte make a move being early the Kansas game on Dec. 12?

It will be a program defining week in Austin.
