Kansas State came out of the gates struggling. The Wildcats were 9-30 in the first half, finishing at 30% from the field. By the time the teams were heading to the locker room, Kansas State had only scored 24 points and were trailing by 20.

Forward Selton Miguel went 1-7 from the field and 0-2 from behind the arc. He also had three attempts at the free-throw line, missing all of them. Rudi Williams was the leading scorer at the break, having eight points on two made three-pointers and two made free throws.

On the flip side, Texas shot 57% from the field. The Longhorns led wire to wire, never squandering their lead. In fact, Texas had the lead for 18:25 of the game, only being tied for 1:25.
