Texas commit Arch Manning draws another elite comparison

The hype surrounding Arch Manning continues.

The hype surrounding Arch Manning continues. One publication is comparing him to a former Indianapolis Colts quarterback, but not the one you might expect.

On3 Sports is finding similarities between Manning and former Houston area standout Andrew Luck.

Both quarterbacks share a few things in common. They each possess a strong arm, high football IQ and underrated athleticism.

Manning hopes to accomplish some of the goals Andrew Luck reached at the college and professional level. Luck elevated Stanford from mediocrity to the Orange Bowl and Fiesta Bowl in his time at Stanford.

Afterward, Luck was selected as the No. 1 overall pick to the Indianapolis Colts in the 2012 NFL Draft. While there, Luck led the Colts as far as the AFC Championship before retiring.

Winning over Arch Manning heals the wounds of past quarterback misses for Texas. Fans watched as quarterbacks their team undervalued excelled elsewhere. Andrew Luck, Jameis Winston, Johnny Manziel and Robert Griffin III were a few of Mack Brown’s biggest quarterback misses.

If Manning can duplicate Luck’s success, Texas could have a strong start as a new member of the SEC.

Five-star quarterback recruit Nicholaus ‘Nico’ Iamaleava has committed to the Tennessee Volunteers over Alabama, Oregon, Miami and Georgia.

Iamaleava recently released a list of his top five schools, but committed to Tennessee as expected. The five-star quarterback recruit is a member of the class of 2023.

Iamaleava is a lengthy quarterback with good mobility. He is the No. 7 recruit in the class of 2023 and the No. 4 quarterback prospect. Iamaleava is the second-ranked recruit in the talent-rich state of California.

The ultra-talented quarterback recently changed high schools. Iamaleava now plays football for Long Beach Poly High School in Long Beach, California. The 2023 recruit played last season at Warren High School before returning to Long Beach Poly. He additionally plays volleyball at a high level.

The five-star prospect has taken recent visits to Tennessee and Oregon, but decided to commit to the Volunteers.

Iamaleava has a strong arm and quick release. He needs to continue adding to his frame to be more durable at the college level. Iamaleava can make all the throws. He can scramble when plays break down and has very high potential. He instantly upgrades the Volunteers’ program if he sticks with his commitment.

The 6-foot-5, 195-pound quarterback announced his commitment via his Instagram account:

Tennessee Football Schedule 2022: 3 Things To Know

Tennessee football schedule. The 2022 schedule with 3 things to know

Tennessee football schedule 2022: Who do the Volunteers miss on the SEC schedule and what are 3 things to know?

2022 Tennessee Football Schedule

Sept 17 Akron

Sept 24 Florida

Oct 1 OPEN DATE

Oct 8 at LSU

Oct 15 Alabama

Oct 22 UT Martin

Oct 29 Kentucky

Nov 5 at Georgia

Nov 19 at South Carolina

Nov 26 at Vanderbilt

Tennessee Football Schedule What To Know: Who do the Volunteers miss from the SEC West slate?

Tennessee always gets the bad break of having to play Alabama every year, but at least it’s at home this time around. There are no easy answers from the SEC West – going to LSU isn’t going to be a breeze. On the plus side, the Volunteers get a week off before going to Death Valley.

Making matters worse is having to go to Georgia, but playing Florida and Kentucky at home is a big deal. However …

Tennessee Football Schedule What To Know:

Tennessee gets to stay in the state for five of the last seven games, but three of the last four date are on the road.

Obviously going to Georgia is a rough way to start November, but the trips to South Carolina and Vanderbilt to close things out are winnable.

It all starts with dealing with Florida at home. Lose that, and the SEC schedule is too tough to have any real dreams of taking the East. Win, and it might have a shot.

Tennessee Football Schedule What To Know: What does it all really mean?

Just how improved will Tennessee be?

If this is a team worthy of thinking about winning the SEC East, it needs to take out Pitt on the road and take out the Gators for a 4-0 September.

A bowl game is a lock with this slate – at least it had better be – but the Vols will almost certainly be the underdog at least twice and more likely close to four times.

Even so, it’s a good, interesting schedule with plenty of chances to come up with big wins that can define the season and the program. Everything else – like Kentucky and at South Carolina – will be about focus.

4-Star DE flips commitment from Georgia football

Class of 2022 defensive end Tyre West has flipped his commitment to Tennessee after being committed to Georgia football for over a year

Class of 2022 defensive end Tyre West has flipped his commitment after being committed to Georgia football for over a year. West has committed to the Tennessee Volunteers.

West is an elite four-star recruit who plays high school football for Tift County in Tifton, Georgia. He’s considered one of the top in-state recruits in his class.

West is rated as a four-star recruit and the No. 111 player in the class of 2022. The Tift County star is the No. 20 defensive lineman in the country and the No. 12 overall player in the state of Georgia.

Tyre West committed to Tennessee over FSU and Georgia. The 6-foot-3, 280-pound defensive lineman is a huge addition for Tennessee.

The four-star defensive end has received scholarship offers from Georgia, LSU, Alabama, Texas, Oregon, Tennessee, Auburn, Florida, and many more.

On tape, Tyre West exhibits impressive strength. He’s got a strong bull rush that can overwhelm unfortunate high school offensive linemen. West also has enduring pursuit and never gives up on a play. The 280 pound defender has the speed to chase down plays from the backside and the football IQ to diagnose option plays that are a staple in modern college football.

College GameDay signs roast Tennessee football

An Ole Miss fan took advantage of College GameDay coming to Oxford, Mississippi, and made a sign roasting Tennessee football.

A few Ole Miss fans took advantage of College GameDay coming to Oxford, Mississippi, and made signs roasting Tennessee football. Ole Miss defeated Tennessee in Knoxville, Tennessee, 31-26 back on Oct. 16.

Tennessee fans were upset when Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin and the Rebels stopped Tennessee on a controversial fourth down. After a lengthy video review, replay correctly ruled that their was not enough video evidence to overturn the call.

Madness ensued. Tennessee fans threw whatever they had including: beer cans, water bottles, and more. It took a while to clean the field and calm down Tennessee fans, which caused a lengthy delay.

You would think that Tennessee fans would be used to losing tough games after going 25-31 in their last five seasons, but evidently that is not the case.

Here’s a look at the signs:

Two of the more interesting things Tennessee fans threw on the field were: a mustard bottle and a golf ball, which was aimed at Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin.

Tennessee has banned a few dozen fans for throwing trash on the field during their defeat to Ole Miss. The Volunteers will hope to have a better environment for the Nov. 13 game against Georgia.

Tennessee to wear all-black uniforms against Georgia

The Tennessee Volunteers plan to wear their all-black uniforms against Georgia on Nov. 13.

The Tennessee Volunteers plan to wear their all-black uniforms, known as “Dark Mode,” against No. 1-ranked Georgia on Nov. 13.

Tennessee’s jersey combination may give Georgia a pinch more motivation for the SEC East rivalry game. The Bulldogs have worn black jerseys in big games in the past and know the results can be hit or miss.

Tennessee has one of the top offenses that Georgia has faced all season. The Volunteers’ up-tempo attack will provide a challenge for Georgia. The game will be one of the most hostile environments UGA has played in all season.

Georgia has only played in a few true road games this season: at Vanderbilt, where the stands were mostly red, and at Auburn, which is always one of the top environments in the SEC.

Tennessee and quarterback Hendon Hooker last wore their black jerseys on Oct. 9 this season against the South Carolina Gamecocks. Calvin Mattheis-USA TODAY Sports

If I were Tennessee, then I am not sure this would be the game to choose to wear the all-black jersey combination. The jerseys look clean and are exciting, but will not help the Vols when they face the best defense in the country. The Georgia-Tennessee game should be fun and may be one of UGA’s more entertaining games all season.

Tennessee football announced their uniform combination via their Twitter account:

Wisconsin plays a new SEC opponent in latest USA TODAY bowl projections

Wisconsin football plays a new SEC opponent in the latest USA TODAY Sports bowl projections:

Although Wisconsin football remains in the Music City Bowl in the latest USA TODAY Sports bowl projections, the Badgers are now predicted to play the Tennesee Volunteers.

Wisconsin has only played in one Music City Bowl in 2003, where they fell 28-14 against the Auburn Tigers. The Badgers have also not fared well in their previous matchups against the Volunteers, losing both times the programs have met.

After a lot of movement in the last few weeks, the projected College Football Playoff teams for this week are Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State and Oklahoma.

The Badgers will be up against the Army Black Knights this weekend at Camp Randall, and a win will be vital in helping Wisconsin get back to .500.

Tennessee Volunteers College Football Preview 2021: Offense

Alright, let’s get this thing going already. Tennessee is about to attempt to go from 0-to-60 with an offense that’s finally going to give teams something to worry about.

Last year the Vols were dead last in the SEC in third down conversions, 11th in total offense averaging 346 yards per game, and 12th in scoring averaging just 22 points per outing. There were moments, but the O scored more than 19 points once in the final seven games, and that came against Vanderbilt.

Enter new head coach Josh Heupel and an attack brought over from UCF that’s going to go fast, push the ball down the field, and at the very least be far more interesting. He’s bringing over offensive coordinator Alex Golesh from UCF, and he’s adding a TON of options from the transfer portal, and now …

– Welcome to the most interesting quarterback situation in college football. Jarrett Guarantano led the Vols in passing, and now he’s a Washington State Cougar. JT Shrout got in some throws, and now he’s a Colorado Buffalo. Harrison Bailey stepped in as the star-in-waiting and completed 71% of his throws for 578 yards and four touchdowns, and if the season started right now he might be QB1, but …

Joe Milton was the starting quarterback at Michigan. He struggled and sputtered, but he’s got the size, skills and arm to grow into the job. Hendon Hooker was the star playmaker for Virginia Tech for a few seasons, and he brings the mobility, experience, and resumé no one else in the mix has.

If you came to Tennessee as a tight end, you’re probably in the transfer portal now. It’s not that Heupel and his offense totally ignores the position, but … tight ends are better off elsewhere, and that’s why four took off. However, Austin Pope and Princeton Want are sticking around – they’re the best two, anyway.

Leading receiver Josh Palmer is done, but Velus Jones is a dynamic playmaker who should thrive in the new attack, Jalin Hyatt is a dangerous deep threat, and Cedric Tillman adds 6-3 size and matchup problems.

– For all of the fun the UCF passing game had, the running backs turned out to be stars, too. The Vols lose top backs Ty Chandler (North Carolina) and Eric Gray (Oklahoma), and now it might be up to star JUCO transfer Tiyon Evans if third-leading back Jabari Small isn’t used more.

The offensive front that struggled so much in pass protection loses Trey Smith to the NFL and tackles Wanya Morris (Oklahoma) and Jahmir Johnson (Texas A&M) to the portal. Cade Mays, though, should be one of the nation’s best blockers no matter where he plays, Darnell Wright is a future NFL Draft pick, and there’s enough in place to come up with a solid front five.

Saints hire former Georgia offensive coordinator Jim Chaney

The New Orleans Saints have hired former Georgia Bulldogs offensive coordinator Jim Chaney to be an offensive analyst

The New Orleans Saints have hired Jim Chaney to be an offensive analyst. Chaney previously served as the offensive coordinator for the Georgia Bulldogs from 2016-2018. Chaney then went on to hold the same position with the University of Tennessee from 2019-2020.

The Saints are looking to rebuild following their playoff defeat to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. New Orleans will likely have a quarterback under center for the first time in years with the pending retirement of Drew Brees.

Jim Chaney has a lot of talent to work with in New Orleans including Michael Thomas, Alvin Kamara, and a stout offensive line. Chaney brings previous NFL coaching experience to the Saints.

Chaney, a native of Missouri, has over 30 years of coaching experience including 25 seasons as a offensive coordinator at the college level.

The Tennessee Volunteers still owe Jim Chaney a significant amount of money on his contract. The Vols fired Chaney after Jeremy Pruitt’s recruiting scandal emerged this offseason.
