A former Badger makes a game-changing play in the NFL’s Week 5

After coming up with the biggest play of the Eagles’ 21-18 win over the Panthers on Sunday, former Wisconsin LB T.J. Edwards was named NFC Special Teams Player of the Week.

Late in the fourth quarter with his Philadelphia team trailing by one score, Edwards blocked the first punt of his NFL career to give the Eagles excellent field position for what turned into the game-winning drive. The Big Ten actually swept NFC awards in Week 5, as Michigan’s Tom Brady took home NFC Offensive Player of the Week and Ohio State’s Marshon Lattimore was awarded defensive honors.

Edwards had a pair of solo tackles and three assisted tackles to go along with his blocked punt in the win.

Eagles’ linebacker T.J. Edwards was named the NFC Special Teams Player of the Week after his 4th quarter blocked punt help Philadelphia upset Carolina

The NFL announced on Wednesday that third-year linebacker T.J. Edwards was named the NFC Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance in Philadelphia’s victory over the Carolina Panthers.

This is Edwards’ first career Player of the Week honor and he’s the first Eagle to be named NFC Special Teams Player of the Week since Kenjon Barner in 2017.

Edwards block on Joseph Charlton’s punt with four minutes remaining in Sunday’s game put the Eagles in scoring position at the Panthers’ 27-yard line.

With the Eagles down 18-13 at the time, quarterback Jalen Hurts scored on a 6-yard touchdown run on the ensuing drive and hit wide receiver DeVonta Smith for the two-point conversion to give the Eagles a 21-18 lead.

Former Wisconsin LB T.J. Edwards stole the show among Badgers in the NFL on Sunday afternoon. The Illinois native had an NFL first, and it turned out to be the deciding play in a 21-18 Eagles road win over Carolina.

Edwards, who played at Wisconsin from 2014-2018, blocked a Panthers punt with 3:53 remaining in the fourth quarter to set up Philadelphia inside the Carolina 30-yard line for what ended up being a game-winning drive. It was the Wisconsin alum’s first blocked punt in the NFL, and it couldn’t have come at a better time.

The Eagles improved to 2-3 with a massive win to get their season back on track.
