Sooners make final five for elite 4-star running back

The Oklahoma Sooners are in the top five for four-star running back Stacey Gage ahead of commitment date.

We are days away from the start of one of the biggest recruiting weekends of the year.

This weekend could also bring a commitment from Stacy Gage, a four-star running back from Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Gage released his top five on Wednesday, and it consisted of the Sooners, UCF, Penn State, Florida and Colorado.

He also announced he’ll be committing this Saturday, June 10.

It seems like an uphill battle for running back coach DeMarco Murray and Co.; 247Sports and On3 have UCF as the prohibitive favorite. Rivals has the Sooners as a slight favorite.

247Sports director of scouting Andrew Ivins broke down Gage’s game by saying:

A thicker, tempo-based runner with adequate burst and plenty of power. Quickly processes what’s in front of him and has a knack for finding yardage even when the blocking isn’t there. Short-stepping run style allows him to shake would-be tacklers while a well-timed spin move makes a threat to score anytime he reaches the second level. Tends to always fall forward, which seems to be a byproduct of his natural forward lean and impressive leg drive. – Ivins, 247Sports director of scouting

No doubt the Sooners would love to add Gage to their running back room. With previous recruiting news involving Bryant Wesco and Sammy Brown, Sooner fans would love nothing more than to get some kind of positive recruiting news.

Ohio State loses instate running back to Michigan

This one really hurts #GoBucks

It has been a rough go for [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] on the recruiting trail the last few days. First, it was former Notre Dame signee Brandyn Hillman, who picked Michigan after a visit, not giving the Buckeyes a chance.

Now in-state running back [autotag]Jordan Marshall[/autotag] will join Hillman playing for Ohio State’s rivals. This one hurts a bit more, as Marshall’s father is a Buckeye fan and the ball carrier was viewed as a priority prospect for [autotag]Ryan Day[/autotag].

The good news is that Ohio State has a lot of depth at running back but after not signing one during the 2023 cycle, it is a big need to sign at least two in the 2024 class.

The Buckeyes will now turn their focus to other running back targets like [autotag]James Peoples[/autotag], [autotag]Stacy Gage[/autotag] and [autotag]Sam Williams-Dixon[/autotag]. It remains to be seen if Ohio State will continue to recruit Marshall despite his verbal commitment.

Friday Night Notes: Georgia’s new 4-star Athlete, Colorado’s spring recruiting blitz and more

A look at the latest high school football recruiting news around the U.S.

USA TODAY High School Sports‘ Friday Night Notes is a weekly high school recruiting recap that looks at the latest news from around the country—from the Class of 2024 to ’25 and beyond.

The king stays the king. And right now, the kings of college football are the Georgia Bulldogs, who are dominating the competition both on the field and in the recruiting game. Georgia is coming off their second consecutive national championship as well as putting together the No. 2 ranked recruiting class of 2023. Neither is an accident, especially since they spent about 50% more on recruiting than any other Power 5 program in 2022.

While it’s no guarantee of success, outspending your opponents by a wide margin is a strategy that tends to work more often than it fails. This morning Georgia added another significant asset to their future plans – a piece that can fit in various ways.

Here’s how Swainsboro (Ga.) four-star athlete Demello Jones announced his commitment to the Bulldogs.

Jones (6-foot-1, 176 pounds) was a popular recruit, getting offers from 27 different programs. According to On3, his top 10 schools were Georgia, Alabama, Kentucky, Miami, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Ohio State, South Carolina, Tennessee and Vanderbilt.

Kirby Smart is getting an extremely versatile two-way playmaker in Jones. Last season he ran for 1,279 yards and scored 20 touchdowns on the ground. As a receiver, he totaled 384 yards and seven more scores. He also threw one touchdown pass. Meanwhile, on defense, he posted a sack, two tackles for a loss, a fumble recovery and six pass breakups.

Going by the composite rankings, Jones is the 18th-best athlete in his class and is No. 28 overall in the state. He makes for 10 hard commits in Georgia’s class of 2024, which ranks No. 1 in the nation.

Colorado hosting highly-recruited 4-star RB Stacy Gage for spring game

Several important recruits will be visiting Boulder for the game, including St. Thomas Aquinas (Fla.) four-star running back Stacy Gage.

We will get our first glimpse of Deion Sanders’ new-look Colorado team at their spring game on April 22, which will be broadcast live on ESPN.

Naturally, several important potential recruits will be visiting Boulder for the event. That list includes St. Thomas Aquinas (Fla.) four-star running back Stacy Gage, who announced he was coming last week on his Twitter page.

Colorado’s class of 2024 has five commits so far, but none of them are running backs, so picking up Gage would fill a need. He’s also one of the best at his position in the recruiting cycle. According to the composite rankings, he is No. 10 among running backs and No. 23 overall in Florida.

We know the Buffaloes are at least in the running. At the end of an impressive 2022 season, Gage included Colorado among his top eight schools. He has a ton of other suitors, though, as almost 50 other programs have made offers.

At the moment, On3’s prediction model has Florida (20.7%), Ohio State (18.2%), Oklahoma (15.6%) and Florida State (9.8%) as the top contenders.

Colorado makes top 8 schools for 4-star RB Stacy Gage

He has 44 offers all together but on New Years he listed his eight final schools.

Colorado finished 2022 as the hottest recruiting item in the country. Since Deion Sanders was hired as head coach a month ago, the Buffaloes have added some high-profile names to their recruiting class of 2023, and have also put together one of the best transfer classes in college football.

The latest blue-chip prospect who says he’s considering Colorado is Wharton (Fla.) four-star running back Stacy Gage. He has 43 offers overall, but on New Years, he listed his eight final schools, including Colorado, Florida, Penn State, Oklahoma, Ohio State, USC, Alabama and Miami.

Gage (5-foot-11, 200 pounds) is ranked No. 12 at running back in his class and No. 140 overall. He had been playing at IMG Academy but transferred for his Junior year to Wharton, where he posted 704 rushing yards on 139 carries (5.1 yards per attempt) and 14 touchdowns.

Oklahoma Sooners inside top 8 for 2024 4-star RB Stacy Gage

2024 4-star running back Stacy Gage included the Oklahoma Sooners in his top 8.

The Oklahoma Sooners finished the 2023 recruiting cycle with a lot of momentum, signing a top-five class in the early signing period. Despite the down year, the Sooners have a lot of momentum on the recruiting trail.

That momentum looks to be carrying over into the 2024 recruiting cycle. The Sooners were included in the top eight for 2024 four-star running back Stacy Gage. The Sooners joined Colorado, Alabama, Florida, Penn State, USC, Ohio State, and Miami in the top eight release.

Out of Tampa, Fla., Gage is a top 20 running back in the 2024 cycle. Playing for IMG Academy in Bradenton, the

[autotag]DeMarco Murray[/autotag] has done a really nice job over the last two recruiting cycles to add running back talent to the program. In the 2022 cycle, Murray brought in [autotag]Jovantae Barnes[/autotag] and [autotag]Gavin Sawchuk[/autotag], and in 2023, [autotag]Daylan Smothers[/autotag] and [autotag]Kalib Hicks[/autotag].

If Oklahoma were able to get a commitment and signature from Gage, the Sooners running back room would have really nice depth to it.

Here’s what Gage told Hayes Fawcett of On3 about Oklahoma, “Always home for me, and I feel like I will be a quick impact to the team.”

Alabama lands in top eight for 2024 4-star RB Stacy Gage

On New Years, 2024 running back Stacy Gage released his top eight schools. Alabama was one of the programs that made the cut.

Alabama has a history of landing some of the nation’s most talented running backs. Their odds of landing one of the top 2024 running backs on Sunday increased. Stacy Gage, a Florida native, released his top eight schools on Twitter. Alabama was listed as a finalist.

Gage spent some time at IMG Academy before transferring back to his hometown to play for Wharton High School. He will conclude his high school career there.

As of right now, Oklahoma has one crystal ball prediction in their favor to land Gage. However, that does not mean a whole lot considering his recruitment will continuously heat up in the coming months.

Roll Tide Wire takes a look at Stacy Gage’s recruiting profile.

2024 Four-star running back has Ohio State in final eight

Ohio State makes the top eight for one of the top running backs in the nation. #GoBucks

It was a heartbreaking night for Ohio State, dropping a hard-fought matchup with the Georgia Bulldogs. If anything good can come from a loss, it’s that Ryan Day looked energized and the Buckeyes have a ton of talent coming back next year.

Even though the Peach Bowl loss sting is still there, it’s never too early to begin looking to the future. OSU just signed most of its 2023 class in early December and may add a few more come February, but coaches now are looking to coax 2024 seniors to Columbus.

One such player is four-star running back, Stacy Gage. Gage is ranked as the No. 12 running back in the class according to 247Sports composite rankings. The Tampa native trimmed his list today by including Ohio State, as well as Alabama, Colorado, Florida, Miami, Oklahoma, Penn State, and USC.

As of now, the Sooners are getting most of the love regarding crystal ball predictions, but it’s still early on in the process, and plenty of time for the young man to be swayed to the Buckeyes.

Ohio State Football: Quick recruiting recap from this past weekend

It looks like they had a great time

The Buckeyes weren’t just busy on the field this weekend, they are active on the recruiting trail as well. Even though The Game didn’t go Ohio State’s way, it didn’t mean that the weekend was a complete bust. Ryan Day and his staff were active with plenty of recruits who were in Columbus and some that weren’t. Check out some of the action from over the weekend below.
