MSU RB declares for 2025 NFL Draft, forgoing his final year of eligibility

In the midst of the roster turmoil that is surrounding college football with the NCAA transfer portal, there is still a ton of decisions for players to make in regards to the NFL draft. One Spartan has made the decision to declare for the 2025 NFL Draft.

Nathan Carter has made the decision to declare for the NFL draft after just two seasons in East Lansing, following his transfer from UConn. He had one year of eligibility remaining.

In his two seasons in East Lansing, Carter carried the ball 301 times for 1,297 yards and 9 touchdowns, while catching 40 passes for 206 yards and 2 touchdowns. He was a captain for the Spartans in 2024.

The Spartans will look to the transfer portal to replace Carter.

Ben VanSumeren ruled out for Eagles on Sunday

Ben VanSumeren suffered a potential serious knee injury in practice, sidelining him for the Eagles

Former Michigan State football linebacker Ben VanSumeren has found himself a nice role in the National Football League with the Philadelphia Eagles. VanSumeren has taken on a role as a fullback in the NFL, and is someone that many have raved about in taking on his new role.

For the Eagles big time clash with the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday, VanSumeren is going to be sidelined with an injury.

It sounds like the injury suffered by the former Spartan is a serious knee injury suffered in practice and it could be looking like a long term injury.

Former Spartan gets start on Monday Night Football

The Dallas Cowboys are giving a former Spartan a start on MNF against the Texans

Michigan State football defensive back alumnus Josh Butler is making his first career start on Monday Night Football for the Dallas Cowboys. 

Butler played for Michigan State from 2015-2019, before going undrafted in the NFL Draft. While taking an unconventional route to the NFL, Butler excelled when he played for the Michigan Panthers in the USFL this past season, earning him a shot with the Dallas Cowboys.

The shot for Butler just intensified, and the Cowboys will now give the former Spartan the chance to start on Monday Night Football against the Houston Texans.

A former Spartan spotted in Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams’ touchdown celebration on Sunday

The Detroit Lions absolutely drubbed the Jacksonville Jaguars inside of Ford Field on Sunday afternoon. A good day for those Lions fans in the Spartans fan base. It was also a good day for a noted Michigan State alumnus.

During a celebratory leap into the stands by Lions wide receivers Amon Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams, they were seen jumping into the seats of a former Spartan and Detroit Red Wing, Justin Abdelkader.

Abdelkader is known as a Stanley Cup winner with the Red Wings, while winning a National Championship at MSU.

Watch Kenneth Walker score big time TD against 49ers

K9 logs a huge touchdown for Seattle against the 49ers:

The Seattle Seahawks and San Francisco 49ers are locked up in a big time NFC West matchup, jockeying for position in their divisional standings.

In a low scoring affair between the Hawks and Niners, every score matters, and Kenneth Walker adding a big time score for Seattle.

Late in the third quarter, a Walker touchdown run gave the Seahawks the narrow 13-10 lead, setting his team up to take care of business in the final quarter of play.

Joe Bachie ruled out of Sunday Night Football matchup

Joe Bachie will not play on SNF due to a hip injury

In the NFL, the Cincinnati Bengals and Los Angeles Chargers are linking up for a matchup on Sunday Night Football. In the primetime matchup, the Bengals are going to be without a former Spartan.

Joe Bachie has been ruled out for the game due to a hip injury. Bachie has appeared in all ten games for the Bengals this season.

The timetable for his return is unclear.

Jalen Nailor snags fourth touchdown of the season

Jalen Nailor made a huge play on Sunday Night Football

Former Michigan State football WR Jalen Nailor has carved himself a very nice role within the Minnesota Vikings offense. The wide out has played a complementary role to star wide receivers Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison.

On Sunday Night Football, with the Vikings playing a closely contested game against the Indianapolis Colts, Nailor hauled in his fourth touchdown of the year in a pivotal spot.

Watch former MSU football WR Cody White make crazy play

Cody White made his impact felt for the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday

Former Michigan State football wide receiver Cody White went from setting records in East Lansing to trying to make his mark in the NFL. Undrafted in the 2020 NFL Draft, White was picked up by the Pittsburgh Steelers. In two years with the Steelers, White caught 6 passes for 35 yards.

Since departing Pittsburgh, White spent last season on the Seattle Seahawks practice squad, not getting into game action. In 2024, after a remarkable preseason, White is getting his chance to make a mark.

While it wasn’t as a wide receiver, in the Seahawks game against the Los Angeles Rams, White blocked a punt, making a huge impact on the game.

Former Spartan gets NFL start

A former Spartan has gotten his first start after making a positional change

Michigan State football fans know Ben VanSumeren as a linebacker during his time in East Lansing. Now, forging an NFL career for himself, VanSumeren has found himself a role in the leeague.

Going undrafted in the 2023 NFL Draft, VanSumeren landed a role with the Philadelphia Eagles. Starting his career mainly on special teams, VanSumeren recorded 16 tackles in nine games for the Eagles in 2023.

Now, the former Spartan has made the switch to the offensive side of the ball, where he will now play as a fullback. In the Eagles game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, VanSumeren got the start.

Two former Spartans in the NFL try to exchange jerseys in hilarious video

Keon Coleman and Kenneth Walker at least attempted to do a jersey swap after their game Sunday

Before Keon Coleman and Kenneth Walker III were exciting young players in the NFL, they shared the field at Michigan State. The two Spartans played each other on Sunday, with Coleman’s Buffalo Bills beating Walker’s Seattle Seahawks 31 to 10.

After the game, Walker and Coleman tried to show love to each other with the classic post game jersey swap, but, hilariously, Kenneth Walker couldn’t figure out how to get his jersey off.
