Joe Bachie’s NFL career will continue

Joe Bachie’s NFL career continues. On Thursday, it was announced that the Cincinnati Bengals will re-sign the former Michigan State football player.

Bachie was a First-Team All-Big Ten selection with the Spartans back in 2018, and has made a nice career for himself in the pros. Mainly a reserve player (nothing to scoff at), Bachie has 42 career tackles and has spent time with the Saints, Eagles, and now a few years with the Bengals.

Bengals re-sign LB Joe Bachie and CB Jalen Davis

Some roster moves for the Bengals before free agency.

The Cincinnati Bengals got out in front of free agency by re-signing a pair of players on Thursday.

Cincinnati re-signed linebacker Joe Bachie and cornerback Jalen Davis, with NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport confirming.

Bachie, a restricted free agent, received a one-year deal from the team. Davis, an unrestricted free agent, got a two-year deal.

It was long expected the Bengals would bring both guys back, as Bachie is important depth at linebacker with Germaine Pratt a free agent. Davis is an important piece at a position the Bengals lack serious depth and the two-year contract only confirms the team’s understanding of the issue.

These moves won’t stop the Bengals from potentially adding several more players to the positions in free agency and/or the draft. But the coaching staff wants competition and continuity for depth and special teams and gets it going into 2023 via these moves.

Cincinnati Bengals give former Spartan LB Joe Bachie a contract extension

Joe Bachie and Cincinnati Bengals have agreed to a contract extension

Joe Bachie had a slow start to his NFL career, but he is slowly making a name for himself in the league. This past season saw Bachie take a huge step forward in his development as an NFL player. Bachie excelled on both special teams and spelling the starting linebacker group. In a season that saw the Cincinnati Bengals make a Super Bowl, Bachie was a nice piece to the team’s defense and special teams.

In the 2021-22 season, Bachie made two starts and saw action in 9 games while recording 30 tackles. His performance in this past season has earned him a one-year contract extension from the organization.

Joe Bachie has been signed to the Cincinnati Bengal’s active roster

Joe Bachie has spent his time in the NFL in a few different places, including the New Orleans Saints and the Philadelphia Eagles before landing with the Cincinnati Bengals.

Everywhere he has gone, Bachie has shown an ability to make a lot of plays in training camp and on the practice squad, but has yet to get a real chance at the active roster.

Bachie may just get a chance, as the Bengals have announced that they have signed Bachie to the active roster.

Saints tried to bring back LB Joe Bachie, but the Bengals got to him first

The New Orleans Saints lost former Michigan State LB Joe Bachie from their practice squad in 2020, and the Bengals stopped a reunion in 2021

It’s an open secret that the New Orleans Saints could use some help at linebacker, but they won’t be reuniting with Joe Bachie. The former Michigan State standout inked an impressive undrafted rookie deal with the black and gold in 2020 but spent most of the season on their practice squad; his position coach gave him a big vote of confidence for his abilities on defense, but a lack of upside on special teams kept him on the bench.

Then the Philadelphia Eagles poached Bachie from the Saints practice squad. He appeared in four games for the doomed birds to close out their season, logging 56 snaps in the kicking game against 18 reps on defense, but notching their only win over New Orleans, coincidentally (a matchup in which Bachie played six special teams snaps). Philadelphia recently waived the second-year pro, and ESPN’s Field Yates reports that the Saints submitted a waiver claim to bring him home, as did the Denver Broncos. But the Begnals had higher priority than both teams.

Bachie is the latest former Saints player to land in Cincinnati, where he’ll join defensive captain Vonn Bell and cornerback Eli Apple, plus defensive end Trey Hendrickson (who joined the Bengals on a lucrative free agent contract, which is expected to return a compensatory draft pick to New Orleans). The Saints aren’t scheduled to play the Bengals again until 2022, but it’s possible several familiar faces will be lining up against them when LSU icons Joe Burrow and Ja’Marr Chase lead their teammates back to Louisiana.
