Notre Dame guard Alex Wade to enter transfer portal

It just didn’t work out for him athletically with the Irish.

Alex Wade was one of the few returning players for Notre Dame this past season. Despite this and receiving a scholarship, he still wasn’t able to crack the rotation. Having already received his degree from the university, he has decided to enter the transfer portal, which opened up earlier this week. Here’s his official announcement that he posted to social media:

IT’S BRACKET MADNESS: Enter USA TODAY’s NCAA tournament bracket contest for a chance at $1 million prize.

Wade’s Irish career consisted of 13 games over two seasons. He missed all five field-goal attempts and only cracked the scoring column with one free throw against Southern Indiana last season and two more in a loss to Marquette this past season. His last appearance came in the Irish’s blowout defeat March 5 at North Carolina.

It’s unfortunate that Wade’s basketball aspirations didn’t work out for the Irish, and he can’t be blamed for taking his talents elsewhere with all of that eligibility remaining. Hopefully, his next stop turns out a lot better athletically.

Tom Izzo gives final thoughts on James Madison loss, previews Southern Indiana

The Michigan State basketball season rolls on following Monday’s disappointing loss to James Madison. Next up? Former Division II powerhouse Southern Indiana, now of the Division I Ohio Valley Conference.

Before the game on Thursday, Tom Izzo addressed the media to give his final thoughts on the loss to James Madison, along with his thoughts on Southern Indiana.

You can see the key quotes from that session below, as annotated on Twitter by Chris Solari of the Detroit Free Press.

Michigan State basketball to play Southern Indiana on Nov. 9

Michigan State basketball to play Southern Indiana on Nov. 9

In some interesting news that was just announced, Michigan State basketball will host Southern Indiana on Nov. 9 in the Breslin Center as part of their early season ramp-up.

The Screaming Eagles joined Division I last year after historically being a Division II program, and head coach Stan Gouard has been determined to match them up against strong Division I talent as they continue to improve their program. Last year, Southern Indiana faced Missouri and Notre Dame. This year they will face MSU and Duke.

The match-up will take place three days after the Spartans host James Madison at home and five days before they play Duke in the Champion’s Classic.

Southern Indiana went 16-17 last year in their first season in the top division.

Notre Dame announces nonconference schedule for 2022-23 season

Notre Dame is eager to build on the success it had during the 2021-22 season.

Notre Dame is eager to build on the success it had during the 2021-22 season. It won two NCAA Tournament games, and [autotag]Blake Wesley[/autotag] became the program’s first one-and-done player after being drafted by the San Antonio Spurs. For the 2022-23 season, the Irish are returning most of their players and have another freshman with high expectations in [autotag]JJ Starling[/autotag]. We now know how their season will start in that they have released their nonconference schedule.

After everything the Irish accomplished last year, opponents will know not to take them lightly. [autotag]Mike Brey[/autotag] has recaptured his old magic, and that means a team that should continue to get better. All of this means some quality basketball will be played, and that means a product worth the money paid by the fans who come out to see them. After a Nov. 2 exhibition against New Orleans-based NAIA opponent Xavier, here’s who the Irish will face before playing an ACC schedule that promises even more excitement:

Notre Dame’s first three nonconference dates revealed

Mark your calendars for November.

Notre Dame’s 2022-23 schedule is starting to take shape. The dates and opponents for the Irish’s first three games, all of which are part of the Gotham Classic, have been announced. The season begins Nov. 16 at Purcell Pavilion against Southern Indiana, which is making its Division I debut as part of the Ohio Valley. That will be followed with a home game Nov. 22 against Bowling Green, an opponent the Irish have not faced since a 92-65 Valentine’s Day victory in 1972.

The third game, which is being promoted as the showcase game in the Gotham Classic, is Nov. 25, when the Irish will take on St. Bonaventure at UBS Arena, where the New York Islanders play. This matchup has been known since March, but we finally know when it will take place. This will be the Irish’s first game against the Bonnies since a 57-54 win three days before Christmas in 1994.

Here’s to a strong start to what should be another great season.

Former Michigan State basketball walk-on Peter Nwoke transferring to Southern Indiana

A former MSU walk-on is heading to Southern Indiana

Peter Nwoke spent one season with Michigan State basketball as a preferred walk-on, but he will now be heading just a few hours away to Southern Indiana. Nwoke announced the news on Twitter on Sunday.

Like many preferred walk-on additions to college basketball rosters, Nwoke came in to see if he could earn himself a scholarship with the Spartans. That bet might not have panned out, but now Nwoke will be able to prove himself with Southern Indiana.

It’s come full circle for Auburn basketball coach Bruce Pearl.

Pearl & Co. will be throwing down on the hardwood on November 5th against Southern Indiana, Pearl’s first stop as a head coach. The Screaming Eagles will be playing the Auburn for the first time in the history of its program, SIU announced on Wednesday morning.

Auburn enters the season with quite a lot of fanfare after a rather disappointing 2020-21 season. New additions through the transfer portal have bolstered an already talented Auburn squad. Walker Kessler, KD Johnson, Wendell Green, and Zep Jasper should all play pivotal roles for the Tigers this upcoming season.

Expect the exhibition game against the Screaming Eagles to be watched with great interest by fans as Auburn’s chemistry as a team may take time to develop.
