Auburn basketball to open the 2023-24 season with neutral-site game against Baylor

The Tigers will start next season with a marquee matchup.

The Auburn Tigers will be opening the season with a marquee matchup.

The Tigers announced that they will be facing the Baylor Bears on Nov. 7 to start the 2023-24 college basketball season. The game will be at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

“What a great opportunity to play a perennial Top 10 program with a great coach like Scott Drew,” [autotag]Bruce Pearl[/autotag] said. “Our guys came to Auburn and the SEC, to play against the very best. We will get to see right away where we are as a team. A marquee matchup like this, playing a guaranteed Quad 1 opponent, will help us build our potential tournament resume and get us prepared for league play.”

The two teams last faced off during the 2020-21 season when the Bears won 84-72 as part of the Big 12/SEC Challenge. They lead the all-time series 5-2 with Auburn having not won since 1995.

Baylor is one of several non-conference opponents that Auburn is set to face next season. The Tigers are also reportedly set to face USC in Neville Arena, Indiana in Atlanta and they will also compete in the Legends Classic in Brooklyn, with a field of Oklahoma State, Notre Dame and St. Bonaventure.

Auburn announces nonconference opponent for 2022-23 season

The Tiger’s schedule is starting to be filled out.

Auburn’s schedule is starting to come into focus.

The Tigers will host Texas Southern in Neville Arena on Nov. 18. The game will come after Auburn’s game against Winthrop on Nov. 15 and before the Tiger’s trip to Mexico for the on-site portion of the Cancun Challenge. The game against Winthrop is part of the Cancun Challenge but is not part of the bracket for the tournament.

Auburn will have four-straight home games to start the season, opening with George Mason on Nov. 7, then USF on Nov. 11, and Winthrop on Nov. 15 before the game against Texas Southern on Nov. 18.

After that stretch, they will head to Cancun, Mexico for a Nov. 22 game against Bradley. That will be followed by a matchup against either Northwestern or Liberty on Nov. 23.

They will then play a home game against Saint Louis on Nov. 27 before heading to Atlanta for a game against Memphis on Dec. 10 in the Holiday Hoopsgiving showcase.

Following that, they will go on a West Coast strip, playing at USC on Dec. 18 and at Washington on Dec. 21.

The final scheduled non-conference game is against Werst Virginia on Jan. 28, when the Tigers will head to Morgantown, West Virginia, to take on the Mountaineers in the Big 12/SEC Challenge.

We know who Auburn will play in their 18 conference games, but not when. The Tigers will have home-and-home meetings against Alabama, Georgia, Ole Miss, Tennessee, and Texas A&M next season. They will host Arkansas, Florida, Mississippi State, and Missouri at Neville Arena, and have road matchups against Kentucky, LSU, South Carolina, and Vanderbilt.

Auburn hoops has announced their first opponent for the 2022 season

Auburn announces who they will open the 2022-23 season against in early November.

On Tuesday, CBS basketball insider Jon Rothstein reported that Auburn will be facing George Mason in game one of their ’22-’23 season. This is interesting, to say the least.

The two teams have met just once in history. Their very first meeting came in 2017 when Auburn defeated George Mason by a score of 79-63. Now, they will meet for just the second time and the game will be played in Neville Arena.

The Patriots haul from an impressive Atlantic 10 conference, to say the least. Programs like Davidson, Dayton, Richmond, St. Louis, St. Bonaventure’s, and VCU are among very successful teams in the conference. When the 2021 season came to a close, George Mason finished with a 14-16 and eighth in the A-10. However, they did knock off several notable teams. The Patriots beat Maryland and Georgia on the road. They also knocked off Dayton who beat the eventual national champions, the Kansas Jayhawks.

The program is set to bring in two transfers: Victor Bailey (Tennessee) and Saquan Singleton (New Mexico). Along with those two additions, they are also bringing top 150 four-star prospects Justyn Fernandez. It will be interesting to see how Auburn performs against a team that appears to be heading in the right direction.

The Tigers are also slated to compete in the Cancun Challenge in November. They are also going to travel to both Washington and USC for road games on the west coast. Along with those opponents, [autotag]Bruce Pearl[/autotag] and his squad are also slated to take on Appalachian State, South Florida, and St. Louis as part of the home-and-home series. One storyline to watch is how the Tigers perform in non-conference. It certainly seems to the naked eye that Pearl is doing his best to put together a strong schedule for the upcoming season.

It’s come full circle for Auburn basketball coach Bruce Pearl.

Pearl & Co. will be throwing down on the hardwood on November 5th against Southern Indiana, Pearl’s first stop as a head coach. The Screaming Eagles will be playing the Auburn for the first time in the history of its program, SIU announced on Wednesday morning.

Auburn enters the season with quite a lot of fanfare after a rather disappointing 2020-21 season. New additions through the transfer portal have bolstered an already talented Auburn squad. Walker Kessler, KD Johnson, Wendell Green, and Zep Jasper should all play pivotal roles for the Tigers this upcoming season.

Expect the exhibition game against the Screaming Eagles to be watched with great interest by fans as Auburn’s chemistry as a team may take time to develop.
