Report: Michigan State football freshman QB Sam Leavitt expected to enter NCAA transfer portal

While it doesn’t mean he’s gone, MSU QB Sam Leavitt is reportedly expected to enter the transfer portal:

I have heard a lot of different things regarding Michigan State football freshman quarterback Sam Leavitt today, but at least for now, 247Sports is reporting that they expect him to enter the NCAA transfer portal.

Leavitt was a huge recruiting win for MSU, and the former 4-star recruit showed some skills in limited snaps this season. With a new coach, Leavitt may want to see what is out there for him, but I would expect that MSU will still have a chance to bring him back.

MSU fans can expect a lot of players to enter the portal to at least see what’s out there and review their options. It doesn’t mean they are gone for good, and is just a wise move for them to at least get feedback in the portal.

10 Michigan State football players Jonathan Smith needs to retain

10 current MSU players Jonathan Smith should heavily focus on retaining:

The first thing on the list for Jonathan Smith upon arriving to East Lansing will be meeting with the current roster, and recruiting the current roster to stick around and not hit the transfer portal.

No one is denying that the Spartans have a plethora of young talent on the roster, with the past two recruiting classes being very good, and it will be imperative that Smith can keep that talent in East Lansing for his staff to develop.

Let’s take a look at ten players Michigan State and Coach Smith need to retain on the roster:

BREAKING: Katin Houser to start for MSU football vs Nebraska

Katin Houser will start, Sam Leavitt will play, according to Harlan Barnett in his pregame radio show

On his pregame radio show ahead of Michigan State’s game against Nebraska, Harlan Barnett has announced that Katin Houser was going to be the starting quarterback for Michigan State against Nebraska.

He did mention, true freshman Sam Leavitt was going to get some playing time in this game as well, meaning a 2-QB system could be on the horizon.

MSU commit, 4-star QB Sam Leavitt experiences big bump in updated On3 recruiting ranking

Michigan State football will officially be adding a top 10 quarterback prospect to their roster next fall

Michigan State football will be adding a top 10 quarterback prospect to its roster this fall.

Four-star quarterback Sam Leavitt, a Spartans commit, experienced a nice bump in the updated On3 recruiting rankings that came out on Monday. Leavitt moved up 65 spots to the No. 76 overall and is the No. 7 quarterback in the 2023 class.

Cody Bellaire of On3 had this to say about Leavitt:

“Honestly, Sam Leavitt may have put together the most impressive senior season out of all of the top quarterbacks in the country. He threw for over 3,000 yards, ran for over 1,000 yards, threw 36 passing TDs, ran for 8 rushing TDs with only 5 interceptions and nearly a 70% completion rate. He put on an absolute show as a senior, and he deserved his bump in the ratings.”

Leavitt was a late addition to the Spartans’ 2023 class, and it sounds like he could be the biggest game changer for Michigan State. Click on the tweet below to read more on Leavitt from On3:

4-star quarterback Sam Leavitt signs NLI with Michigan State football

4-star quarterback Sam Leavitt signs NLI with Michigan State football

This is already an impressive class across the board for Michigan State football, but the gem of this 2023 recruiting class might just end up being Sam Leavitt. The 4-star quarterback signed his national letter of intent on Wednesday during the early signing period.

Leavitt was originally viewed as a consolation prize by some after 5-star QB Dante Moore chose UCLA, but after diving into his recent film, there are many that believe that Leavitt could have easily been ranked higher and could be a major game-changer for the Spartans down the road.

Michigan State football lands 4-star QB Sam Leavitt

Michigan State has flipped Washington State 4-star QB Sam Leavitt

The good news keeps rolling in on the recruiting front for Michigan State’s coaching staff. The Spartans have officially completed the flip of 4-star quarterback Sam Leavitt, who was previously committed to Washington State. Leavitt is the tenth 4-star in MSU’s 2023 recruiting class.

Leavitt is from West Linn, Oregon, attending West Linn High School. In his senior year, in which he led West Linn to a state championship,  he threw for 3,065 yards, completing 70 percent of his passes and rifling 36 TDs to only 5 INTs. He also rushed for 720 yards and 8 TDs, showing his dual threat ability.

According to On3, Leavitt is a 4-star prospect that ranks as the No. 141 overall recruit and the No. 10 quarterback in the country. He is also regarded as a 4-star prospect to the 247Sports composite rankings.

Leavitt joins fellow 2023 commits Bai Jobe, Andrew Depaepe, Jordan Hall, Jalen Thompson, Stanton Ramil, Brennan Parachek, Jayvant Brown, Cole Dellinger, Chance Rucker, Aziah Johnson, Eddie Pleasant and Jaelon Barbarin.

MSU target, 4-star QB Sam Leavitt decommits from Washington State

Michigan State could be adding a big-time quarterback to their 2023 class very soon

Michigan State could be adding a big-time quarterback to their 2023 class very soon.

Four-star quarterback Sam Leavitt announced on Wednesday evening that he has decommitted from Washington State. Leavitt — who hails from West Linn, Ore. — took an official visit to Michigan State this past weekend and had been committed to the Cougars since July.

Adding more fuel to the Spartans’ fire of landing Leavitt is a handful of 247Sports crystal balls predicting that to occur. There are now six recruiting analysts who are predicting Leavitt to commit to Michigan State.

Leavitt ranks as the No. 23 quarterback and No. 376 overall prospect in the 247Sports composite rankings for the 2023 class. He’s also listed as the No. 1 player from Oregon.

Washington extended a scholarship offer to Leavitt earlier this week so we will have to see if that potentially sways him towards the Huskies. But on paper, it looks like the Spartans are in great position to land another four star recruit.

MSU football recruiting is fine: Ten recruits who could be added to the 2023 recruiting class

There are a lot of concerns with MSU’s 2023 recruiting class; it’s time for a deep breath. Here are ten recruits that MSU could add to their class before signing day:

There has been a lot of chatter amongst the social media sphere around the state of MSU’s 2023 recruiting class following the departures of Colton Hood and Johnathan Slack. While decommitments are never fun, I am here to do my best Aaron Rodgers impression for the Spartan fan base.

R-E-A-L-A-X.

While being at only 10 commitments is not something the staff wanted to be at, there is still a week until signing day and A LOT is going on behind the scenes.

By the conclusion of the early signing period, I expect Michigan State to get to at least 15 commitments/signees, at a bare minimum.

So the Michigan State fanbase needs to take one collective deep breathe, and strap in for the recruiting ride they are about to go on.

Here are ten prospects Michigan State is firmly in the mix for and could become part of the class:
