Top running back recruit trying hard to pry five-star from Notre Dame

Stay tuned…

It drew a lot of attention this past weekend when 2023 five-star defensive end [autotag]Keon Keeley[/autotag] took an official visit to Alabama. Keeley was Notre Dame’s first commitment in the class; he gave his word back in June 2021. Keeley was viewed as a prized recruit at the time of his commitment — a status that has only been enhanced. Some outlets have him as a top-10 player nationally.

Keeley remains committed to Notre Dame, but Marcus Freeman and his staff have their work cut out to keep him. Talents like Keeley draw attention until they sign their national letters of intent, and now an Alabama commit is calling his shot in getting Keeley to flip.

Richard Young, one of the nation’s top running backs who committed to the Tide late last week, already tweeted at Keeley about Alabama once. Now he’s at it again, this time making a grand prediction.

I don’t know what Keeley is going to ultimately end up doing and having once been about to enter my senior year of high school, I’m guessing Keeley himself doesn’t even know. With Notre Dame still being where he is verbally committed I would presume they’re still the leader, but Alabama clearly will not be going away.

Alabama takes over top spot in On3’s Consensus Team Rankings

After a dominating month of July on the recruiting trail, Nick Saban and Alabama take over the top spot in On3’s Consensus Team Rankings.

After a week that saw not one but two five-star commitments, [autotag]Nick Saban[/autotag] and Alabama have now taken over the top spot in On3’s Consensus Team Rankings.

Over the last few days, the Crimson Tide has received commitments from both the nation’s top safety in [autotag]Caleb Downs[/autotag] and the nation’s top running back in [autotag]Richard Young[/autotag]. Downs and Young join fellow five-star prospects [autotag]Tony Mitchell[/autotag] and Jahlil Hurley as the top-rated commitments in Alabama’s class.

Alabama has two of the top ten quarterbacks in [autotag]Eli Holstein[/autotag] and Dylan Lonergan as well as two of the top three running backs in the aforementioned Young and [autotag]Justice Haynes[/autotag].

Currently, Alabama has a total of 16 commitments, 10 of which are ranked within the top 200 and there are no signs of the Tide slowing down anytime soon.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to monitor the Alabama Crimson Tide on the recruiting trail and beyond.

A top-ranked running back is trying to help flip Notre Dame commit to Alabama

Does Notre Dame ultimately hold onto Keeley in this cycle?

It has been quite the July for Alabama in terms of recruiting. The Crimson Tide have recently landed commitments from multiple five-star players, including the top-ranked safety, the second- and third-ranked running backs, and the second-ranked cornerback in the 2023 cycle (247Sports).

Alabama also brought longtime Notre Dame commitment [autotag]Keon Keeley[/autotag] to campus for an official visit this weekend.  Keeley is ranked not just among the top edge rushers in the ’23 class but as the eighth overall player nationally according to 247Sports.

With that in mind, it’s no real shock that new Alabama commit [autotag]Richard Young[/autotag] is trying to get Keeley to flip from Notre Dame to join the budding class in Alabama. Young, the second-ranked running back in the nation, posted the following to Twitter on Saturday.

You can bet there will only be more of this going forward in regards to several Notre Dame commitments and understandably so. As I’ve stated before, it’s not what you want to see, especially with it being Alabama, but it’s plain and simple the college football world we now live in.

5-star RB Richard Young announces commitment

5-star RB Richard Young announced his commitment on Friday afternoon.

Some things can change in a matter of hours, can’t they?

Late Friday morning, we published an article reflecting a new prediction that had been logged for five-star running back Richard Young to commit to the Oregon Ducks, choosing them over both Alabama and Georgia.

Not long after, Young announced his commitment to the Crimson Tide.

We can’t say we saw that one coming…

The Ducks were seemingly in a great position to land Young, especially after getting a commitment from five-star quarterback Dante Moore, who developed a nice relationship with Young during the recruiting process. Instead, the Ducks will have to watch Young, the No. 2 RB in the 2023 class, go to Alabama and play out his future there.

It is certainly a bummer after getting hopes up for a potential commitment, but Oregon fans should still be happy they have four-star running back Dante Dowdell in the fold for the 2023 class.

Notre Dame misses on the nation’s best 2023 running back

Who do the Irish turn to next?

At one point, the Irish and Florida running back [autotag]Richard Young[/autotag] looked as though they could be a match. An official visit by Young in June made Notre Dame landing the top-rated running back in the country a legit possibility.

The door didn’t completely close when Young announced his top three and left Notre Dame off it. Young men change their minds all the time. The door slammed closed on Friday, however. Young announced his commitment to Alabama, the same southern school that is trying to flip Irish commit [autotag]Keon Keeley[/autotag].

What is not known is what [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag] and Notre Dame will do next.

Do they continue to recruit Young until signing day? How good of a chance do they have at flipping Dylan Edwards from Kansas State after offering and getting him on campus this week? Do they go after other prospects or are they content with the current commit [autotag]Jayden Limar[/autotag]? Time will tell what Notre Dame’s next steps are.

Alabama lands commitment from 2023 five-star RB Richard Young

Alabama lands 2023 running back Richard Young from Lehigh Acres, FL. He is the second running back commitment of the ’23 class.

Alabama received a welcomed surprise from the recruiting trail on Friday. Five-star running back Richard Young from the 2023 class announced that he is committing to Alabama via his Twitter page. He chose the Crimson Tide over Oregon and Georgia.

Alabama was seen as the favorite to land Young throughout most of his recruitment. However, On3’s Sam Spiegelman put in a prediction in favor of Oregon on Friday. That led many to believe that the Florida native was bound for Eugene. Fortunately for Alabama fans, that wasn’t the case.

Young is ranked as the No. 37 overall recruit on 247Sports’ recruiting rankings. He is listed at 5-foot-11, 200 pounds. He currently attends Lehigh Senior High School in Lehigh Acres, Florida. Last season, he had 196 carries for 1,755 rushing yards and 19 rushing touchdowns.

He is the second running back commitment for the Tide’s 2023 recruiting class. The other is four-star running back Justice Haynes. The two will likely form a respectable one-two punch in Tuscaloosa for many seasons to come. Regardless of who else joins the class, the coaching staff has done an excellent job up to this point.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow Alabama football recruiting news.

Ducks become new favorite to land elite 5-star RB over Alabama, Georgia

Massive prediction just dropped. 5-star RB Richard Young is being slotted to choose the Oregon Ducks over Alabama, Georgia.

When the Oregon Ducks got a commitment from 5-star quarterback Dante Moore, there was a feeling that the blue-chip recruits would start flocking to Eugene in droves.

Instead, it’s been relatively quiet since then. However, that may be about to change.

A huge bit of news came in on Friday morning, with a new prediction that 5-star running back Richard Young, the No. 2 RB in the 2023 class, is going to commit to the Ducks. Oregon has been in the running to land Young for quite a while now, but it has always been an Alabama lead in his recruitment.

No longer, though.

Young and Moore seemed to grow close during their visits to Eugene, and they might be able to form a nice offensive punch should Young come to the Ducks. There is also 4-star RB Dante Dowdell, the No. 9 RB in the 2023 class, who has already committed to Oregon.

We will see as this develops and get a sense for when Young will make his final commitment, but this is huge news for the Ducks.

Oregon’s 4-star RB commit leaps up the 2023 recruit rankings

Oregon has a long and storied history at the RB position. They’re currently recruiting the position as well as they ever have under Carlos Locklyn.

When you look at the most recent rankings of running back recruits in the 2023 class, you may get a bit excited if you’re a fan of the Oregon Ducks.

Not only did 4-star RB commit Dante Dowdell recently make a big jump up in the rankings, but there is another prospect — 5-star Richard Young — who also ranks high on the list.

Both have been moving up over the past couple of months.

In the most recent list of top players according to On3, Dowdell is now ranked as the No. 6 RB in the nation, and Young is ranked at No. 3 in the nation.

We will hopefully know soon whether or not Young is going to commit to the Ducks, but the recent movement at Alabama definitely points to the Ducks gaining some ground in his recruitment.

When all is said and done, this could be one of the more talented backfields that we’ve seen in recent memory in Eugene, which is absolutely saying something.

Ohio State misses out on RB Justice Haynes: What it means for OSU

After missing out on Justice Haynes, what’s next for the Ohio State running back room?

Ohio State had its aim set high for the running back room in the 2023 recruiting class. Richard Young and Justice Haynes, both top-5 running backs, were tops on the wishlist.

After visiting Columbus in June, Haynes left with high praise for the Buckeyes and running backs coach Tony Alford, and many thought he may be leaning toward Ohio State. Even though Haynes’ father, Vernon, was a star RB at Georgia, things were trending in a positive direction for OSU.

Then, Haynes shocked the world and picked… Alabama. Maybe it shouldn’t be too surprising. Very rarely does Nick Saban not get what Nick Saban wants. And in this case, Haynes, the four-star running back, was the object of Saban’s affection.

So, where does Ohio State go from here? Richard Young is pretty much off the board. Stranger things have happened, but at this point, the Buckeyes are not in Young’s top three. That distinction belongs to Alabama, Georgia, and Oregon, with the Crimson Tide leading crystal ball predictions. Maybe that changes now that Haynes is heading to Tuscaloosa, but the odds seem low that he’d put the Buckeyes back on the list.

The good news here is, that the Bucks have a quality running back committed in Mark Fletcher, who is the No. 11 ranked RB in the country. The question with Fletcher is, can Ohio State keep him in the fold? There are rumors floating around that Mario Cristobal and Miami are pushing hard to flip Fletcher to the ‘Canes.

The Buckeyes are set at running back for at least the next two years with a stockpiled room. But I feel certain that both Ryan Day and Alford will now begin to look for a different option to add to this year’s mix to pair with Fletcher. Maybe a diamond in the rough. Say… a Miyan Williams-type guy who may be underrated but has a lot of grit?

You win some, you lose some. Missing out on Haynes is a punch to the gut, but with the recruiting success Day has had since becoming the head man in Columbus, I trust the Buckeyes will be just fine going forward.

Alabama Morning Drive: Tide lands surprising commitment from Georgia legacy Justice Haynes

Some good news to share on Monday morning!

Good Monday morning, Tide fans! Welcome back to another edition of Alabama Morning Drive. I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend and is ready to get the work week started.

A lot happened over the weekend but perhaps the most surprising news of all was the commitment from four-star running back [autotag]Justice Haynes[/autotag].

Haynes made his commitment on Sunday afternoon, shocking the recruiting world. Haynes’s father, Verron Haynes, was a stellar back for the Georiga Bulldogs in the late 90s and early 2000s which is why the top 50 prospect’s decision is so surprising.

[autotag]Nick Saban[/autotag] and Alabama may not be done with the running back position in the 2023 class either. The Tide is still considered a major player for five-star [autotag]Richard Young[/autotag].

Alabama now sits with the No. 3 ranked class according to On3’s Consensus Team Rankings.

Let’s take a look at a few other stories that Alabama fans should be following this morning.
