David Duke Jr. and Chris Chiozza named to All-G League teams for Long Island Nets

David Duke Jr. and Chris Chiozza were named to All-G League teams earlier in April for how they played during the season.

David Duke Jr. of the Brooklyn Nets and Chris Chiozza of Brooklyn’s G League affiliate, the Long Island Nets, were named to the All-G League teams, according to an official release by the G League earlier in April. Duke Jr. was named to the First Team while Chiozza was named to the Third Team.

Duke Jr. averaged 23 points, 6.1 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 1.9 steals per game while shooting 47.9% from the field and 32.1% from three-point land in 22 games for Long Island this season. Duke Jr. did what he did while leading Long Island to a 15-7 in the games that he played in. LIN had an overall 23-9 record, which was the best record in the East and was tied for the second-best record in the G League.

Chiozza, who played for Brooklyn from 2019 to 2021 (two seasons), averaged 12.2 points, 4.7 rebounds, 8.3 assists, and 1.9 steals per game while shooting 45.4% from the field and 44% from behind the three-point line. Long Island had a 22-8 record when Chiozza played and he was tied for fifth in the league in assists per game with Shaquille Harrison of the South Bay Lakers, the Los Angeles Lakers’ G League affiliate.

Colin Castleton hits 1,000 points in a Gators uniform

Florida’s big man hit the 1,000-point mark and delivered the Gators a crucial conference win on Saturday.

When [autotag]Colin Castleton[/autotag] transferred to the University of Florida, he probably didn’t expect to stick around long enough to amass 1,000 points in a Gators uniform. But UF’s big man crossed that threshold and added his name to the record books on Saturday as he led UF to a 73-64 win over No. 20 Missouri.

Castleton needed just 11 points to hit the mark coming into the Mizzou game and finished Saturday’s contest with 16 points and 13 rebounds. In addition to securing his third double-double of the season, Castleton brought his scoring total in an orange and blue uniform to 1,005.

He is Florida’s 55th 1,000-point scorer and the first to join the club since [autotag]Chris Chiozza[/autotag] did it in 2018. Castleton, of course, didn’t transfer from Michigan until 2020, but he immediately became a threat in the SEC and has been Florida’s unquestioned leader for the past two seasons.

There was talk of Castleton going pro this offseason, but [autotag]Todd Golden[/autotag] and the Gator Collective convinced him to return for one final year. He opened the season up on a scoring tear, averaging over 25 points per game through the first four contests. That average has since dropped to 15.0, but he has helped distribute the ball well and joined the top-10 all-time list for blocks at Florida as well.

It will take a strong finish to the 2022-23 season for him to break into the top 10 (Gene Shy, 1,573). At his current pace, Castleton should finish the regular season with around 1,200 points. He could play another four games if Florida makes a run in the SEC Tournament, and a national championship would require six NCAA Tournament wins. However, Castleton would have to up his scoring average to break the top 10.

Brooklyn Nets sign NBA champion Chris Chiozza to roster

As of Friday morning, the Brooklyn Nets have officially signed free agent guard Chris Chiozza.

The offseason has been quite a busy one for the Brooklyn Nets and as the regular season rapidly approaches the team is making some of its final signings.

On Friday, the Brooklyn Nets announced the signing of guard Chris Chiozza of the Golden State Warriors. Last season Chiozza averaged two points and nearly two assists per game on limited minutes for the NBA Champions. Chiozza only barely played double-digit minutes for the Warriors but proved himself as a good roleplayer.

Over the last four seasons, Chiozza has played in 70 games in the NBA G-League for the Santa Cruz Warriors, Long Island Nets, and Rio Grande Valley. He’s averaged 13 points, four boards, over seven assists, and a couple of steals in his tenure in the G-League.

Chiozza went undrafted after playing at the University of Florida for four years. He looks to earn himself some minutes on the hardwood for the Nets roster.

Former Warriors guard Chris Chiozza signs with Brooklyn Nets

After spending one season with the Warriors, Chris Chiozza is signing with the Brooklyn Nets.

In an offseason that contained a flurry of former Golden State Warriors changing teams in free agency, another member of the 2022 championship team is on the way to a new team.

Before training camp kicks off around the NBA, reserve point guard Chris Chiozza is returning to the Brooklyn Nets. Chiozza spent the 2021-22 campaign with the Warriors on a two-way deal, averaging two points on 29.6% shooting from the floor with 1.9 assists and 1.1 rebounds in 10.9 minutes per contest.

Prior to joining the Warriors, Chiozza spent two seasons with the Nets from 2019 to 2021.

Since going undrafted out of Florida in 2018, the 26-year-old veteran guard has also made appearances for the Houston Rockets and Washington Wizards, along with stops in Brooklyn and Golden State.

During his four-year NBA run, Chiozza is averaging 3.3 points on 35.3% shooting from the floor and 34.3% shooting from deep with 2.4 assists and 1.3 rebounds in 91 games.

Alternate spreads and garbage-time buckets: how a bettor’s odd 3-leg parlay won $13,500

Explaining how one bettor hit on a 3-leg parlay to win $13.5k.

It’s not unheard of for a the-leg parlay to hit. It’s actually a fairly common ticket in the sports betting world. But that doesn’t mean those parlays won’t come with their share of drama. Just ask one bettor who turned $500 into more than $13.5k last night thanks to a truly odd three-legger that brought all the madness.

With no Kevin Durant or Kyrie Irving, Oklahoma City went into Brooklyn and delivered the goods on its alternate spread of -3.5, while the Grizzlies covered their -5.5 spread via a second-half comeback against Minnesota. But never mind those. Neither held a candle to what went down in leg one of this ticket.

Stephen Curry’s Warriors, +1.5 against the Bucks, received a nice spread altering from the ticketholder, who moved the line from +1.5 points to +21.5. The NBA’s second-best team (record-wise) being treated like this? Talk about bold!

As predicted by the bettor, this contest was lopsided; too lopsided. Giannis’ Bucks lead by 39 at halftime. Golden State did its best to inch its way back into the game but never did. Milwaukee’s lead stood at 24 with just over 30 seconds remaining and Leg One of the ticket in jeopardy.

But a Jonathan Kuminga tip-in brought the Warriors’ deficit to 22, and the ever-so-respectful Bucks dribbled out the shot-clock on the following possession, leaving 5.6 seconds and one final possession for Golden State.

Enough time for this:

And just like that, one bettor is $13.5k richer. Golden State Warriors +21.5 — never a doubt.

Predicting every Warrior player’s rating in NBA 2K22

With “NBA 2K22” set to release in early September, Warriors Wire drops a rating prediction for every member of the Golden State Warriors.

The latest installment of the “NBA 2K” franchise is set to arrive Sept. 10, and Warriors fans can look forward to playing with a squad that looks remarkably similar to the glory years.

We already know that Stephen Curry, coming off a top-3 finish in MVP voting, is tied for the highest player rating in the game at 96. Draymond Green is still around, Klay Thompson will soon be back in action after two years of injury, and Andre Iguodala is a Warrior again.

But 2K’s all-important player ratings are bound to change for “NBA 2K22.” How will they judge Thompson after two years away? How can they quantify the value of a player like Green? Where do younger Dubs like James Wiseman, Jonathan Kuminga, Moses Moody and Jordan Poole stand?

Here are rating predictions for every player on the roster (besides Curry) heading into the season.

Report: Warriors to sign free agent guard Chris Chiozza to two-way contract

The Golden State Warriors are reportedly signing free agent guard Chris Chiozza to a two-way contract.

After agreeing to contracts with Otto Porter Jr., Nemanja Bjelica and Andre Iguodala, the Golden State Warriors are staying busy during the NBA’s free agency period.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the Warriors are signing free-agent guard Chris Chiozza to a one-year contract as part of their efforts to add depth to the roster. Wojnarowski later reported Chiozza’s deal with the Warriors would be a two-way contract.

Via @wojespn on Twitter:

Since going undrafted out of Florida in 2018, the 25-year-old guard has spent time in the G League, along with the Washington Wizards, Houston Rockets and Brooklyn Nets. During the 2020-21 season, Chiozza played 22 games, averaging four points on 35.2% shooting from the floor with three assists and 1.1 rebounds in 10.5 minutes per contest.

With Chiozza added to Golden State’s backcourt, Nico Mannion and Gary Payton II likely face a tight competition for Golden State’s second two-way deal.

The Warriors have had success with players on two-way contracts. Juan Toscano-Anderson and Damion Lee both played on two-way contracts with the Warriors while developing into reliable role players.

After acquiring Chiozza, Iguodala, Bjelica and Porter Jr., the Warriors still have the $5.9 million taxpayer mid-level exception to sign another player to a guaranteed roster spot.

Report: Brooklyn Nets won’t make qualifying offer to Chiozza

The former UF point guard will become an unrestricted free agent after Brooklyn decided not to make a qualifying offer on him.

Former Florida point guard Chris Chiozza has likely seen his time in Brooklyn come to an end. The Nets chose not to make a qualifying offer to Chiozza, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, making him an unrestricted free agent this offseason.

Chiozza went undrafted in 2018, and he played his first two seasons with the Houston Rockets and Washington Wizards, though he only played in a combined 17 games for the two teams and saw most of his action in the G League. Chiozza signed a two-way contract for the Nets and their G League affiliate, the Long Island Nets, in 2020, making his first two NBA starts in the bubble.

With Brooklyn over the last two seasons, Chiozza appeared in 40 games averaging 5.1 points and three assists. Now that his time on the Nets is drawing to a close, Chiozza could likely end up signing another two-way contract, though he will hope to remain out of the G League and in the NBA.

Here is the projected rotation for the Nets after trading for James Harden

The Brooklyn Nets made an earth-shattering move, adding James Harden to a roster that already had superstars Kevin Durant and James Harden.

The Brooklyn Nets made an earth-shattering move, adding James Harden to a roster that already had superstars Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving.

Note that the Nets still have three roster spots available for additional moves, so they might not be done making acquisitions quite yet. ESPN’s Bobby Marks reported that Brooklyn can offer the taxpayer midlevel exception ($5.7M) and the minimum exception.

He also speculated that they could receive a disabled player exception ($5.7M) for the injury suffered by Spencer Dinwiddie, who is out for the remainder of the season with a partially torn ACL.

Here is how the roster looks, as it stands right now, to get a better idea of what holes must be filled.

Reggie Perry converted to two-way contract, Chris Chiozza waived

The Brooklyn Nets just signed Elie Okobo and Paul Eboua and they’re both already gone, having been waived Saturday.

For the second time this offseason, the Brooklyn Nets waived a played the day after he inked a deal with the team. Forward Paul Eboua was waived on Saturday, along with guard Elie Okobo. But, their departures came before Nets fans had a chance to get to know either player — unlike Chris Chiozza’s. The point guard was also waived Saturday after spending the majority of 2019-20 with the Nets, playing quite a bit for the team in the bubble and receiving a qualifying offer from Brooklyn before this season’s training camp.

As the Nets widdled their roster down to 17 players, Brooklyn elected to turn rookie Reggie Perry’s contract into a two-way deal. The 57th overall pick in the 2020 NBA draft has received praise from the like of DeAndre Jordan and Jeff Green, along with head coach Steve Nash after he appeared in the Nets’ preseason wins over the Washington Wizards and Boston Celtics.
