Frankie Collins selects transfer destination

Best of luck to him.

The reality of Michigan basketball point guard Frankie Collins no longer being with the program has truly settled in.

The Las Vegas native only played in Ann Arbor for one season and surprised many when he opted to transfer well after the season was concluded — just before the May 1 deadline to enter the portal without suffering the one-year penalty. It didn’t take long for the man who was seen as the future of the position for the maize and blue to find his new school of choice.

According to On3’s Joe Tipton, Collins has committed to Arizona State — a school many are familiar with when it comes to recruiting battles with Michigan.

Of course, many will remember five-star Joshua Christopher — who was considered a strong Michigan lean — opting to play for the Sun Devils when he finally announced.

As for guards, Michigan did just bring in Princeton transfer Jaelin Llewellyn, who could likely be the point guard this coming year.

Former Georgia LB Davin Bellamy has breakout USFL debut, wins inaugural award

Davin Bellamy becomes the first player to receive the award of Defensive Player of the Week for the USFL’s inaugural season.

Last weekend, the United States Football League (USFL) returned for the first time since 1985, and Davin Bellamy, former UGA linebacker and member of the 2017 SEC championship team, had a breakout game.

Bellamy, who signed with the Houston Texans after going undrafted in 2018, was selected by the New Orleans Breakers as the first pick of the second round of the 2022 USFL draft. The 6-foot-5 linebacker spent time with five NFL teams before eventually landing with the Breakers.

On Saturday, Bellamy’s dominant performance came in the Breakers’ 23-17 win over the Philadelphia Stars.

He recorded 3 sacks, one of which came on third-and-twelve play that set up an unsuccessful field goal attempt by the Stars. In addition to the sacks, Bellamy had 6 tackles and 4 solo stops.

Due to his stellar showing, Bellamy became the first player to be awarded the Defensive Player of the Week for the USFL’s inaugural season.

At UGA, Bellamy played in all 15 games of the 2017 season, and he recorded 34 stops, 7.5 tackles for a loss, 5 sacks, and had the third-most quarterback pressures on the team with 14.

Georgia joined by Jackson State, SEC schools in 4-star WR’s top-six

Georgia and Jackson State make the top-six for 4-star WR Ayden Williams

2023 4-star wide receiver Ayden Williams released a list of his top-six schools on Wednesday.

SEC schools occupied five of the six spots on his list, with the sixth school being Deion Sanders’ Jackson State program.

Williams, of Ridgeland, Mississippi (Ridgeland High School), ranks as the nation’s No. 201 overall player for the class of 2023, per 247Sports’ composite rankings. The recruiting service considers Williams to be the nation’s No. 26 ranked wide receiver and the third highest rated player in the state of Mississippi.

247Sports’ crystal ball currently views Ole Miss as the favorite to land Williams.

The 6-foot-3, 195 pound receiver was in Athens last weekend for G-Day, where he left with an offer from the Georgia Bulldogs.

Williams recorded 58 receptions for 765 yards and six touchdowns last season.

Michigan football adds controversial former NFL QB as honorary spring game captain

The controversial NFL QB is in Ann Arbor to be the spring game captain for Michigan football.

There’s perhaps no former NFL figure that has garnered more controversy than Colin Kaepernick.

The former San Francisco 49ers quarterback got his start under current Michigan football coach Jim Harbaugh, drafted by Harbaugh out of Nevada before becoming the franchise’s starter.

And with the Wolverines spring game coming up, he’s visiting his former head coach on campus in Ann Arbor.

But that’s not all. According to the official Michigan football Twitter account, Kaepernick will be serving as the honorary team captain for the April 2 spring game at The Big House. The game will put the maize vs. the blue team in a full scrimmage at noon EDT.

Kaepernick is controversial due to his continual kneeling during the national anthem before NFL games, noting that he was doing so to spread awareness for the police brutality suffered by Black people in America.

After being cut by the 49ers, Kaepernick has yet to be picked up by another NFL franchise.

Jake Fromm now an unrestricted free agent

Jake Fromm is on the hunt for a new team…

After less than a year with the organization, former Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Jake Fromm has been cut from the New York Giants’ quarterback room.

In November of 2021, Fromm was signed by the Giants from their practice squad after an injury to starting quarterback Daniel Jones. He went in against the Dallas Cowboys on December 19, and he then got his first career start against the Philadelphia Eagles during Week 16. Fromm ended up throwing for 25 yards and one interception in the game.

Now, as the Giants begin to rebuild their quarterback room, Fromm seems to have not made the final cut.

Per Ryan Dunleavy of the New York Post:

Fromm was a 3-year starter at the University of Georgia from 2017 until 2019. In his time with the Bulldogs, he threw for 7,236 yards, 78 touchdowns, and 18 interceptions.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Michigan football is back in the swing of things with spring ball fully underway, after having started and then having a week off for spring break.

The football program welcomed reporters back into Schembechler Hall for the first time since the end of the 2021 season, as Jim Harbaugh met with the media for the first time since the loss to Georgia in the Capital One Orange Bowl on Dec. 31.

Speaking for 28-plus minutes, perhaps the longest media availability that he’s had, he discussed J.J. McCarthy’s injury, position battles, the early-enrollees, the summer trip in-state, and much, much more.

Here is everything that Harbaugh had to say.

Matthew Stafford discusses reaction to photographer’s fall at Rams parade

Matthew Stafford personally texted the photographer and apologized for his reaction

It was a strange moment at last week’s Los Angeles Rams’ Super Bowl parade.

Former Georgia quarterback Matthew Stafford, who was accompanied by his wife and former UGA cheerleader Kelly Stafford, went viral for his reaction to photographer Kelly Smiley falling off the stage right in front of the two. The Rams superstar reacted by quickly turning away, while his wife, however, instantly went to check to see if Smiley was all right.

Stafford, who threw for 283 yards and three touchdowns in the Super Bowl win over the Bengals, expressed regret over his reaction while making an appearance Tuesday on wife Kelly’s podcast, “The Morning After.”

“We can’t not talk about what happened,” Kelly started. “There was a photographer, who stepped off the back of the stage, had asked if we wanted a picture and I was like, ‘Yes,’ because looking back at my camera roll I have literally zero of Matthew and I.

When she offered, she stepped back and fell. And it was an awful, awful moment. Matthew looked at me and said, ‘Check her please,’ and turned around.”

Kelly added that after the fall she went “straight to” Smiley, which can be seen in the above video, and “could see that she was OK.”

“We followed up with her, the moment we got in the car, Matthew actually looked at me and said, ‘Hey, will you contact the Rams, ask how she’s doing?’ Did that, they’re like, ‘We think she’s going to be OK.’ We sent her flowers. Next day we wake up, not OK,” Kelly explained.

Smiley would later reveal on social media that she had fractured her spine as a result of the fall. Following the incident, Kelly said that her husband “actually texted her himself.”

Kelly and Matthew shifted gears to talk about the quarterback’s instant reaction to seeing Smiley’s fall. Matthew noted that he wishes he “had a better reaction in the moment.”

“I do know that the reaction that the world saw in that split second, I do know that’s not what you wish would have been your reaction,” Kelly said.

Stafford then replied, “Yeah, I mean, that obviously happened really quickly and suddenly and unexpectedly, and wish I had a better reaction in the moment.”

The former No. 1 overall NFL draft pick added that he apologized to Smiley over text about the way he reacted.

“One of those things you try to train your reactions to be a little bit better next time,” he said.

The Staffords and the Rams organization will be covering Smiley’s medical expenses, telling People in a statement: “As we told Kelly, we will be covering all her hospital bills and replacing her cameras. We wish her a speedy recovery.”
