Bojan Bogdanovic trade grades: Who won the Knicks – Pistons deal?

The Knicks did well for themselves here by adding some veterans.

The New York Knicks and Detroit Pistons were two of the busiest teams at the 2024 NBA trade deadline.

New York moved on from Quentin Grimes and Evan Fournier, two players they were long rumored to have on the market, for immediate scoring help from Alec Burks and Bojan Bogdanovic (who is averaging more than 20.0 points per game for the third time in the NBA).

Even though Grimes showed promise early in his NBA career, Burks and Bogdanovic are two veterans who can step on the court and help the Knicks contend in the Eastern Conference this season.

While more moves could come for both teams before the deadline, let’s get into these trade grades on this specific deal:

NBA trade deadline 2024: The 10 most interesting players available and what it’ll cost to get them

Dejounte Murray, Zach LaVine and DeMar DeRozan are some names to watch.

The 2024 NBA trade deadline is approaching in just a few weeks and we may see a few former All-Stars involved in transactions.

As noted by my colleague Mike Sykes, this deadline may be quieter than normal because some of the bigger names (such as Pascal Siakam, O.G. Anunoby, Immanuel Quickley, RJ Barrett, Bruce Brown and Terry Rozier) have already gotten traded.

But that doesn’t mean we will see no star power or players of value get moved. With that in mind, we took a look at some of the most intriguing trade candidates in the NBA and shared their expected value based on the most trusted reporting around the league.

Here is how it is shaking out so far:

Trade rumor rankings: Dejounte Murray, Bruce Brown and more

HoopsHype ranks the 10 players who have appeared most often in trade rumors over the previous week.

This week saw another huge name come off the board on the NBA trade market as the Toronto Raptors dealt Pascal Siakam to the Indiana Pacers in exchange for Bruce Brown, three-first round picks and more. That means the player who ranked No. 1 in our trade rumor rankings article last week is now off the board.

Don’t worry, though, as we still have plenty of interesting names to talk about on the NBA trade market.

Below, check out the 10 players who have appeared most often in trade rumors over the previous week, based on the number of appearances on our Trade Rumors page.

Report: Rockets have trade interest in New York’s Quentin Grimes

The Rockets are among four NBA teams to have expressed trade interest in New York’s Quentin Grimes, per SNY’s Ian Begley.

For Rockets general manager Rafael Stone, drafting in the middle-to-late portion of first-round has been a clear strength over his three NBA offseasons to date. Houston’s hauls have included Alperen Sengun, Tari Eason and Cam Whitmore in consecutive years.

But one that got away was Quentin Grimes, the No. 25 pick in 2021. Despite playing college basketball at the nearby University of Houston, the Rockets drafted Usman Garuba and Josh Christopher with the two previous selections in the first-round order.

Neither of those draft picks made a major impact with Houston, while Grimes quickly became an positive player for the Knicks. This season, Grimes lost his starting job to veteran Donte DiVincenzo, and it’s unclear if there’s a long-term contractual fit in New York for him.

So, could the stars be aligning for Stone and the Rockets to bring in the one that got away? Perhaps. Per SNY’s Ian Begley, a veteran NBA reporter focused on the Knicks, the Rockets, Memphis Grizzlies, Utah Jazz and Atlanta Hawks have expressed interest in obtaining Grimes.

Begley did not indicate what a potential trade package would look like. Because Grimes is on his initial NBA contract, he’s making less than $3 million this season, which makes it very easy for the Rockets and other teams to match salaries or even absorb him into a trade exception. Thus, it could come down to which team can tempt the Knicks the most from an asset value perspective.

The Rockets have first-round draft capital from Brooklyn, as well as several second-round picks in 2024 and beyond, to consider including in trade proposals. Time will tell whether they deem Grimes worthy of that type of asset investment.

During three NBA seasons, Grimes has averaged 8.6 points (43.8% FG, 38.3% on 3-pointers) and 2.5 rebounds in 23.6 minutes per game with the Knicks. A versatile 6-foot-5 wing player with strength, he provides positive defensive value at multiple positions.

Knicks wing Quentin Grimes listed as potential Bulls trade target

New York Knicks wing Quentin Grimes was floated as a potential Chicago Bulls trade target.

As the Chicago Bulls continue to traverse one of the weirdest seasons in recent memory, the NBA trade deadline will be an important market. The Bulls began the season 5-14 but have somehow managed to turn things around. They’re now fully in the mix for the Play-In Tournament and could look to make some big-time moves at the deadline.

Zach LaVine could be first on the list of players to be traded, but perhaps the more intriguing storyline to follow will be if the Bulls decide to push forward or completely tear things down. Or maybe they could look to be somewhere in the middle.

Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report recently suggested that the Bulls target New York Knicks wing Quentin Grimes in a potential trade.

“If the Knicks have another splash trade in them, Grimes feels like one of the more logical candidates to be involved,” Buckley wrote. “If the Bulls can elbow their way into that swap, they should try to be his landing spot. He’s a hard-nosed defender with a low-maintenance offensive game built around efficient shooting and sound decision-making.

“He could handle a significant role in the rotation right now and still be capable of more down the line. In other words, he could be a supporting piece with this core and perhaps help grow the next nucleus with Coby White, Patrick Williams and Ayo Dosunmu.”

At just 23 years old, Grimes’ shooting has a chance to help the Bulls compete for a Play-In spot right now, but he’s also the type of player who could still grow and improve in Chicago.

All the players who could wear a No. 6 jersey in 2022-23 after the NBA’s plans to retire it to honor Bill Russell

The league recently announced plans to retire Russell’s No. 6 jersey across the league to honor the Celtics great, but some players are excepted.

The NBA and Boston Celtics plan to honor Hall of Fame big man Bill Russell for his unparalleled career in the league and his dedication to fighting for civil rights and social justice by retiring his No. 6 jersey league-wide.

The move — unprecedented in league history — honors the singular life Russell lived on and off the court. Russell was the NBA’s ultimate winner with a record 13 titles to his name as a player or player-coach. He also  achieved or was a part of many milestones, including being a part of the first all-Black starting five and the first Black head coach in league history. Through it all, he used his platform to fight for others in a time when that put his career at great risk.

The players in the league wearing No. 6 jerseys in 2021-22 will be allowed to continue to do so until they either switch to a new number or retire from the game. Let’s take a look at the players who could wear that jersey number next season.

Quentin Grimes logged 17 minutes for Knicks in return from injury

Grimes returned from a nine-game absence on Friday and helped the Knicks defeat the Wizards for their second straight win.

Quentin Grimes returned from a nine-game absence on Friday after suffering a dislocated kneecap last month and helped the New York Knicks defeat the Washington Wizards.

Grimes recorded five points, six rebounds, two steals and one blocked shot in 17 minutes of work off the bench as the Knicks won their second straight game. He showed a bit of rust from the long absence and went 1-of-5 from the field, including 1-of-4 from 3-point range.

The 25th pick went down with the injury on Feb. 25 and made good progress recently to return. He was cleared to practice this week and was eventually given the green light to suit up versus Washington. Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau thought Grimes gave the team a good spark.

Grimes said last week the injury was the first of its kind. He hadn’t missed over a week of action before and was understandably eager to get back onto the court. He has given the team strong production as of late, a welcomed addition with 12 games left in the season.

The 21-year-old is averaging 6.3 points and two rebounds in 41 games on 39.4% shooting from 3-point range. He played sparingly to begin the season but played a larger role recently, averaging 13.3 points, four rebounds and 1.3 assists in four games prior to the injury.
