Nets full injury report for Wednesday’s tilt against Raptors

Here is the Brooklyn Nets’ full injury report for Wednesday’s matchup against the Toronto Raptors.

The Brooklyn Nets have three games remaining on their 2023-24 season before everyone within the organization heads back home to begin their offseason following a disappointing season. As this season comes to a close for Brooklyn, they will be dealing with a longer-than-normal injury report due to the wear-and-tear of a long season.

In the Nets’ injury report ahead of Wednesday’s matchup against the Toronto Raptors, Brooklyn has one of the lengthier lists that they’ve had this season, starting with who is out. Forward Dorian Finney-Smith (left knee effusion), Two-Way forward Jaylen Martin (left ankle sprain), and backup guard Dennis Smith Jr. (right hip synovitis) will all miss Wednesday’s contest vs. the Raptors.

Finney-Smith missed Sunday’s 107-77 loss to the Sacramento Kings with his knee issue while Smith has missed seven of the past eight games with the inflammation in his right hip. Martin has been relegated to the Nets’ G League affiliate, the Long Island Nets, ever since he signed his Two-Way contract with Brooklyn in February.

Moving on, center Nic Claxton (left ankle sprain), forward Cam Johnson (left big toe sprain), and Two-Way guard Jacob Gilyard (left hip contusion) are listed as probable for Wednesday’s tilt against Toronto. Claxton missed Sunday’s loss to the Kings after twisting his ankle in Saturday’s 113-103 win over the Detroit Pistons.

Johnson has been dealing with his toe ailment for awhile now and as such, he has missed six of the past eight games as the team is being cautious with him given the amount of injuries he has suffered this season.

Gilyard, similar to Martin, has spent most of his time in Long Island since coming to Brooklyn in March, but he has played in two games for Brooklyn when the team had been missing too many ball-handlers due to injuries.

Nets’ Dorian Finney-Smith plays in front of his father for the first time

Brooklyn Nets forward Dorian Finney-Smith played in front of his father for the first time in his life in Saturday’s win over the Pistons.

NEW YORK — The Brooklyn Nets have just four games left this season before all of the players will be going home for the summer. While Brooklyn has been eliminated from any kind of postseason contention, every player on the team has something to play for or someone to play for.

“I try not to make it more than what it is,” Nets forward Dorian Finney-Smith said to the media about playing in front of his father for the first time in his life prior to Saturday’s 113-103 win over the Detroit Pistons. In what initially to be a disappointing beginning to their last back-to-back of the season, the Nets came back from a 19-point deficit to beat a severely short-handed Pistons squad.

“It’s definitely important,” Finney-Smith continued. “I’m human so I can’t say it like I’m not going to think about it, but it’s gonna be fun.”

Finney-Smith’s father, Elbert, spent more than 28 years in Virginia’s Greensboro Correctional Center before being released thanks in large part because of the Dallas Mavericks, the franchise that Finney-Smith played the first 6.5 seasons of his career for. Finney-Smith played 24 minutes and put up two points and seven rebounds in one of Brooklyn’s biggest comebacks of the season.

Nets full injury report for Saturday’s matchup at Knicks

Here is the full injury report for the Brooklyn Nets heading into their matchup on Saturday at the New York Knicks.

The Brooklyn Nets are in the midst of a five-game losing streak and at this point, they are running out of games to make up ground on the Atlanta Hawks. Brooklyn has another tough game coming up against their cross-town rival in the New York Knicks, but they should be getting back one of their starters.

In the Nets’ injury report ahead of Saturday’s afternoon matchup at the Knicks, there is a new addition to the report, but some good news came along with that. Starting power forward Dorian Finney-Smith, who missed Thursday’s 115-108 loss at the Milwaukee Bucks due to left ankle soreness, is off the report and is good to go against New York.

Cam Johnson started in place of Finney-Smith against Milwaukee, but with Finney-Smith returning, Johnson will head back to the bench. Backup guard Dennis Smith Jr. is listed as probable for Saturday’s game due to left hip soreness.

Smith did not show any signs of his hip giving him any issues in Thursday’s matchup with the Bucks so this sounds like something that popped up after the game. If Smith ends up missing Saturday’s game, that should mean more minutes for Lonnie Walker IV and Trendon Watford.

Nets full injury report for Thursday’s matchup at Bucks

Here is the full injury report for the Brooklyn Nets as they enter an important matchup at the Milwaukee Bucks on Thursday.

As mentioned plenty of times in recent memory, the Brooklyn Nets are hanging on to their postseason hopes by a thread as they trail the Atlanta Hawks by 4.5 games for the 10th and final seed in the Eastern Conference play-in tournament. Going into an important matchup on Thursday at the Milwaukee Bucks, Brooklyn will be missing a key rotation player and could be missing another.

In the Nets’ initial injury report for Thursday’s game at the Bucks, Brooklyn has a couple of listings that are concerning to say the least in terms of the team’s firepower. For starters, Dorian Finney-Smith, the Nets’ starting power forward for the majority of this season, is out for the contest due to left ankle soreness.

Based on the past few injury reports, Finney-Smith had been dealing with that left ankle soreness for the past couple of games, but was able to play through it in Sunday’s 122-115 overtime loss at the San Antonio Spurs and Tuesday’s 104-91 loss to the New Orleans Pelicans. With Finney-Smith not playing, forward Cam Johnson will most likely start in his place.

The other notable addition to the report is that center Nic Claxton is questionable for the matchup due to an illness. This is the first time that Claxton has been listed on the report due to an illness so the hope is that he can play through it.

If Claxton is unable to go, backup center Day’Ron Sharpe would probably take his place in the starting lineup. Finney-Smith and Claxton have been two of the more available players for the Nets as they have played 60 and 59 of Brooklyn’s 69 games played, respectively.

Nets full injury report for Tuesday matchup against Pelicans

Here is the full injury report for the Brooklyn Nets heading into their matchup against the New Orleans Pelicans on Tuesday.

The Brooklyn Nets are hanging out to their hopes of making the Eastern Conference play-in tournament by a thread as they have not taken advantage of what opportunity was ahead of them following the All-Star break. The one thing that can be said about Brooklyn is that they have been healthy and that looks to continue on Tuesday.

In the Nets’ initial injury report released on Monday ahead of Tuesday’s tough matchup against the New Orleans Pelicans, Brooklyn is going to be mostly healthy for the game. However, forward Dorian Finney-Smith is listed as questionable for the contest due to left ankle soreness.

This listing is more concerning than when he was listed on the injury report ahead of Sunday’s game at the San Antonio Spurs for the same injury. On that report, Finney-Smith was listed as probable and his status was never downgraded so it always looked like he was going to play unless something unforeseen happened during warmups.

This time around, Finney-Smith is starting off as questionable so there is a possibility that he could be downgraded prior to Tuesday’s tip-off, even though the Nets need him on the floor. Finney-Smith, 30, is averaging 8.9 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game while shooting 42.7% from the field and 36.6% from three-point land.

Nets full injury report for Sunday’s matchup at Spurs

Here is the Brooklyn Nets’ full injury report for Sunday’s game at the San Antonio Spurs.

The Brooklyn Nets are hanging on to their play-in tournament aspirations by a thread as they are seemingly unpredictable at this point in terms of when they will step up against their competition. Going into the second night of a back-to-back, Brooklyn will have the luxury of a mostly-clean injury report.

On the Nets’ initial injury report going into Sunday’s game at the San Antonio Spurs, the only player to appear on the report was forward Dorian Finney-Smith. Finney-Smith is listed as probable due to left ankle soreness that could have come from Saturday’s 121-100 loss at the Indiana Pacers, but there wasn’t a particular play to point to as the reason for the soreness.

Either way, with Finney-Smith listed as probable, he is likely to be available on Sunday, but things can change. If Finney-Smith ends up being ruled out for Sunday’s contest at the Spurs, Cam Johnson will most likely be the player to start in his place.

Finney-Smith, 30, has appeared in 58 games (47 starts) this season and is averaging 8.9 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game while shooting 42.6% from the field and 37.0% from three-point land. Aside from what he does on the offensive end, Finney-Smith is also Brooklyn’s best defender amongst the team’s various group of wings.

Nets’ Dorian Finney-Smith reacts to hard-fought win over 76ers

After Tuesday’s 112-107 win over the Philadelphia 76ers, Brooklyn Nets forward Dorian Finney-Smith to the hard-fought win and his play.

NEW YORK — The Brooklyn Nets are trying to turn their season around so that they can play their way into the Eastern Conference playoff race before it’s too late. Brooklyn forward Dorian Finney-Smith is a big reason why the Nets have won four of their past six games.

“Yeah, coach been asking us to move the ball side to side,” Finney-Smith said after Tuesday’s 112-107 win over the Philadelphia 76ers about what interim head coach Kevin Ollie has been wanting from his players. While Brooklyn did not exactly light the game on fire with their shooting, they did pick up 25 assists on 41 made field-goals. Finney-Smith himself scored 20 points in one of his best games this season.

“I was able to get some easy looks, guys were finding me cutting and stuff like that,” Finney-Smith said. “Coach been asking me to cut a lot more with the new sets that he’s been putting in. It was a great overall game, though. I feel like we responded on the backboard.”

The Nets have been one of the teams in the NBA that seems to look different on a nightly basis in terms of his offensive efficiency because of how much the offense is dependent on three-point shooting. Against Philadelphia, Brooklyn had a good balance of production from the three-point line combined with attacking the rim as they also put up 58 points in the paint.

Nets’ Dorian Finney-Smith (left ankle sprain) available Saturday vs. Spurs

The Brooklyn Nets announced on Friday that forward Dorian Finney-Smith is available for Saturday’s matchup against the San Antonio Spurs.

The Brooklyn Nets have now made it past the 2023-24 NBA trade deadline and as such, they are looking to turn their season around with their current roster. While the past week has been a lot of the Nets to deal with, they will be getting healthier moving forward.

The Nets announced their initial injury report on Friday for Saturday’s game against the San Antonio Spurs and the report gave some positive news. For one, forward Dorian Finney-Smith, who has missed the past six games with a left ankle sprain, is available to face the Spurs.

Guard Lonnie Walker IV, who has missed the past two games due to left hamstring tightness, is listed as probable. In addition to those two, the Nets should also have the services of guard Dennis Schroder and forward Keita Bates-Diop, the two players that Brooklyn acquired in the trade deadline deals made on Thursday.

As far as the inactive players are concerned, forward Cam Johnson (left adductor strain) and center Day’Ron Sharpe (left knee hyperextension) remain out for the Nets.

In an possible update to Johnson’s injury, his adductor tightness is now being listed as a strain. From first glance, it seems like the terms are meant to be interchangeable in this instance.

Nets’ Ben Simmons ruled out for Monday’s game against Warriors

The Brooklyn Nets announced on Sunday that Ben Simmons is out for Monday’s game against the Golden State Warriors due to injury maintenance.

The Brooklyn Nets are looking to build on an impressive road victory over the Philadelphia 76ers as they try to climb back in the Eastern Conference playoff race. As Brooklyn attempts to extend their winning streak in their matchup against the Golden State Warriors on Monday, they will be doing so while shorthanded again.

The Nets announced on Sunday that Ben Simmons would miss Monday’s contest against the Warriors due to injury maintenance on his lower left back. While this cautious approach with Simmons makes sense given that he missed 38 straight games from Nov. 8 to Jan. 27 with the nerve impingement in his back, it still leaves some doubt as to whether Simmons is fully healthy at this point.

Brooklyn head coach Jacque Vaughn said prior to Saturday’s 136-121 win at the 76ers that Simmons has fully recovered from the nerve impingement in his lower left back that caused him to miss so much time, but that he would also be available for games moving forward.

It seems that regardless of that statement, the Nets appear to still be cautious with Simmons and that makes sense because of how important he is to the team, even in limited minutes. In some good news for Brooklyn, guard Dennis Smith Jr. is probable for Monday after missing Saturday’s win due to right foot soreness.

In addition to Simmons, forward Dorian Finney-Smith (left ankle sprain) and center Day’Ron Sharpe (left knee hyperextension) are out for Monday’s contest. Finney-Smith started running on his ankle at Friday’s practice so he could be returning soon while Sharpe is still slowly working his way back to doing workouts around other people.

Nets’ Jacque Vaughn says Ben Simmons is available moving forward

Brooklyn Nets head coach Jacque Vaughn said prior to Saturday’s game at the Philadelphia 76ers that Ben Simmons is available moving forward.

PHILADELPHIA — The Brooklyn Nets have been arguably one of the most talked about teams in the NBA with the trade deadline on Feb. 8. Brooklyn is trying to hang on to their hopes of being in the Eastern Conference playoff picture come April and they should have one of the best players on the court moving forward.

“Yeah, he would have played the other day (Wednesday night against the Phoenix Suns) except for the acute injury that happened in the game (Monday against the Utah Jazz),” Nets head coach Jacque Vaughn said of Ben Simmons prior to Saturday’s road matchup against the Philadelphia 76ers. Simmons was listed as probable prior to Saturday when he was upgraded to available.

“So, he (Simmons) was fully back from the time away (with the nerve impingement in his lower left back) so all inclination going forward as he’s available for games,” Vaughn said. That has to be good news for everyone in the Nets organization and fanbase given how much time Simmons has missed over his past few seasons with the team due to a variety of injuries.

Addressing the rest of Brooklyn’s injuries, Vaughn said that center Day’Ron Sharpe, out due to a left knee hyperextension, has been doing more court work and has progressed to contact with coaches. Vaughn said that Dorian Finney-Smith, out with a left ankle sprain, is still “day-to-day” and that the team will see if he can go next week.

Dennis Smith Jr., questionable for Saturday due to right foot soreness, will go through his pregame routine to see if he can play. The 76ers will be missing three rotation players, including superstar center Joel Embiid, and could be missing two more rotation pieces with Tobias Harris and Nic Batum listed as questionable.
