Report: Spurs don’t see Trae Young as fit next to Victor Wembanyama

The San Antonio Spurs reportedly don’t see Trae Young as a fit next to Victor Wembanyama.

As the San Antonio Spurs look to improve their roster around Victor Wembanyama this summer, adding a top-tier playmaker should be one of their top priorities. Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young has been rumored as a potential target, but according to Kurt Helin of NBC Sports, San Antonio may not be in on that idea anymore.

“One other note. Spurs fans have been buzzing about the team getting in the mix for a Trae Young trade this summer, as he is the most acclaimed point guard likely to be available,” Helin wrote. “League sources have told NBC Sports not to bet on that happening, as San Antonio doesn’t see Young as a fit with Wembanyama going forward. The Spurs might be more interested in the Hawks’ Dejounte Murray if he is available.”

Young’s massive contract and lack of presence on the defensive end could be potential factors why the Spurs would rather go after Dejounte Murray or completely pivot away from a deal with the Hawks.

Doubt cast on potential Spurs-Trae Young trade this offseason

Is a Trae Young trade actually realistic for the San Antonio Spurs?

As the San Antonio Spurs look to build around Victor Wembanyama adding talent around him that fits will be crucial. They were linked to Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young in potential trade talks throughout the season, and those rumors will almost certainly bleed into the summer. However, Jeff McDonald of the San Antonio Express-News thinks San Antonio will hold off on taking a big swing.

“The 25-year-old Young, who has averaged at least 25 points for five consecutive seasons, would certainly give the Spurs an elite scorer to pair with Wembanyama,” McDonald wrote. “The cost of acquiring Young might prove too steep, especially considering the Spurs would need to re-sign him to a maximum contract in 2026 to make the deal worth anyone’s while.

“The Spurs would then be locked into the Wembanyama-Young pairing for years, without the wherewithal to add to it. The Spurs haven’t ruled out engaging in discussions about Young or another star this summer, but it is more likely their biggest swing comes later.”

Young is great, and he would be a solid pairing next to Wembanyama, but is it worth the price?

Leonard Miller listed as potential Bulls offseason trade target

The Chicago Bulls should look to target Leonard Miller on the trade market this summer.

The Chicago Bulls are facing a weird offseason ahead of them. Following their second straight sub-.500 season, they need to take a look in the mirror and figure out the direction of their franchise. Should they decide to endure another youth movement, Dan Favale of Bleacher Report believes Minnesota Timberwolves forward Leonard Miller could be a target.

“Status quo is the best bet. Because, well, these are the Bulls,” Favale wrote. “Regardless, their need to vary up the frontcourt will persist no matter how they carry themselves over the summer. Andre Drummond could leave in free agency, and even if he doesn’t, neither he nor NIkola Vučević is a long-term answer. Leonard Miller could be.

“Drafted 33rd overall last June, the 20-year-old has spent hardly any time on the court for the Minnesota Timberwolves. But he has done filthy things during his time with the G League’s Iowa Wolves. At 6’10”, he is stronger than he looks. He screens and seals and goes up for boards like a burlier big. His floor game is a work in progress, but when it’s humming in conjunction with his outside shot, he plays like a hybrid 3-4-5.”

If Leonard is gettable, the Bulls should hit the phones.

Darius Garland listed as San Antonio Spurs offseason trade target

Darius Garland was suggested as a San Antonio Spurs trade target for this offseason.

Building out their roster around Victor Wembanyama is the top priority for the San Antonio Spurs this summer. Wembanyama showed capable of leading a successful team in his rookie season, but if the Spurs want to make the playoffs with him at the helm, they need to get guys who can complement him on the court. Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report suggested Darius Garland as a potential trade target.

“Darius Garland is my own preference as Option No. 1,” Buckley wrote. “He’s the more ambitious target, since the Cleveland Cavaliers, unlike the Atlanta Hawks, have not reached Defcon Break Up The Backcourt. But they could get there. This isn’t purely about the Cavs’ postseason fate. If Donovan Mitchell plans to re-sign, they may decide they’re better off not shelling out $80-plus million annually to a pair of smaller guards.

“The Spurs don’t quite have the personnel to ship them a wing of the future unless Devin Vassell is involved (which he shouldn’t be). But they have Keldon Johnson, Jeremy Sochan, all their own picks, extra firsts from Atlanta, Chicago and Toronto, a fake-ish first from Charlotte and second-rounders galore. If some combination of these assets doesn’t pique Cleveland’s interest, they collectively have the curb appeal required to rope in a third-party facilitator with #ThePlayer who does. So, yeah, the Spurs should target the talented 24-year-old with four years left on what ESPN’s Brian Windhorst aptly calls the “Fun Max” first and then adjust their expectations later—if even necessary.”

Adding Garland to the roster would be huge for Wembanyama and the Spurs.

Spurs ‘dream offseason trade’ is playmaking for Victor Wembanyama

The San Antonio Spurs’ “dream offseason trade” should be to put an elite playmaker next to Victor Wembanyama.

As the San Antonio Spurs have adapted to playing with Victor Wembanyama at the helm, they’ve made some significant improvements throughout the season. The 20-year-old rookie has been incredible on the defensive side of the ball, and his offense has taken some serious strides, too, especially as the team’s chemistry has improved.

Following their weird Jeremy Sochan-at-point-guard experiment at the beginning of the year, they’ve gone to a more traditional look, moving Tre Jones into the starting lineup. In addition, they’ve put Wembanyama at the center position full-time rather than having a second big next to him and having him run forward.

As the Spurs look to improve the team around Wembanyama this summer, Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report believes their “dream offseason trade” would be adding playmaking next to the star big man.

“When Wembanyama has shared the floor with Jones, the Spurs have posted a plus-4.0 net rating,” Buckley wrote. “Only six teams have that mark surpassed this season. If that degree of competitiveness is doable with Jones, just imagine what Wembanyama could do with a high-end option at point.

“That’s what the Spurs have already done by poking around Atlanta for a Trae Young trade. With a draft pick collection as strong as San Antonio’s, this franchise should be able to afford a floor general of Young’s ilk—if not Young himself.”

Pairing Wembanyama with an elite playmaker should be the Spurs’ goal.

Bulls ‘dream offseason trade’ involves finding Zach LaVine deal

The “dream offseason trade” for the Chicago Bulls this summer will be to find a suitor for Zach LaVine.

The Chicago Bulls will have a ton of big decisions to make this summer. From the direction of their coaching staff to the direction of their roster, anything could change for the Bulls, and it would make some sense. They’ve been stuck in a pit of mediocrity for three years now with no clear path forward.

However, the trade market may be the most important thing for the Bulls to focus on this offseason. Rumblings have already indicated that they plan to try to trade Zach LaVine, which makes sense, as they supposedly already tried to do so during the season.

According to Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report, the Bulls’ “dream offseason trade” would be to simply find a suitor for Zach LaVine.

“LaVine is a tricky player to trade with his bloated contract and injury issues, but this relationship has run its course,” Buckley wrote. “He was a rumor-mill regular throughout trade season, and the Bulls “will try” trading him again this offseason, per K.C. Johnson of NBC Sports Chicago.

“The Bulls have seen significant addition-by-subtraction results without LaVine this season, as they’re 4.7 points better per 100 possessions with him off the court. His ball-dominance and score-first tendencies are bad fits with this bunch, so if there’s a way to unload him without giving up major assets, Chicago would almost certainly have to pounce on it.”

Moving on from LaVine as gracefully as possible should be the goal for Chicago.

Would a Trae Young trade be perfect or disastrous for Spurs?

Should the San Antonio Spurs trade for Trae Young?

When the San Antonio Spurs selected Victor Wembanyama, they embarked on a quest to build the perfect team around him. He was one of the most hyped-up prospects in recent memory, and yet somehow, he’s managed to outperform many of the expectations placed upon him. But what’s next? How can the Spurs improve the team around him?

One idea that was reportedly explored was a potential trade for Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young. Pairing Young’s elite offensive game with Wembanyama could be a great combination, but there are an equal number of concerns that should be acknowledged with a potential Young trade. Most notably, his subpar play on the defensive end.

The NBA Swish YouTube channel recently discussed whether a Spurs trade for Young would be great or a disaster.

San Antonio will likely explore potential moves this summer, but is a trade for Young the right direction to go in?

Reacting to wild trade proposal would see Bulls land Ben Simmons

This potential trade would see Ben Simmons join the Chicago Bulls.

As the Chicago Bulls inevitably look to trade Zach LaVine this summer, they will have to consider a bunch of different options. Reports indicated that the Bulls were looking to move LaVine during the season, but as soon as he underwent season-ending foot surgery, those talks were put to bed. Now, the focus will be on this summer.

Though his massive contract and lack of quality defensive abilities will hurt his value, there are a bunch of teams around the league who could use LaVine’s shot creation and scoring. One potential destination could be the Brooklyn Nets, who could use some more offense in their lineup.

Greg Swartz of Bleacher Report suggested a deal that would see Ben Simmons head to Chicago, and the Bulls Digest YouTube channel broke it down.

Simmons has been completely unable to stay on the court, but perhaps the Bulls could get back some draft capital in a deal involving him and LaVine.

San Antonio Spurs trade tier list: Which players should be traded?

Which players should the San Antonio Spurs hang onto, and who should they trade immediately?

The San Antonio Spurs knew they were going into a rebuild, but even they probably hoped they would be a bit better than what they’ve been this season. They’ve been the worst team in the West for almost the entire year, and based on everything we’ve seen, it seemed highly likely that’s where they remain for the rest of the season.

In turn, they should be looking to make significant improvements heading into next year. Wasting any of Victor Wembanyama’s career should be viewed as a huge mistake, even though he’ll only be heading into his sophomore season next year. They should still look to get better.

With that, what players should the Spurs be looking to trade, and who should they hold onto? The CLAN the SPURS fan YouTube channel recently compiled a Spurs trade tier list, ranking all the players based on who he thinks the team should get rid of.

Which Spurs players should be the next to go?

What should fans make of the Spurs-Trae Young trade rumors?

Are the San Antonio Spurs-Trae Young trade rumors real?

The San Antonio Spurs have been one of the worst teams in the league this season, and they didn’t make any moves at the trade deadline. However, they were linked to an All-Star: Trae Young. Reports have indicated that the Spurs showed an interest in Young and that interest isn’t expected to go away anytime soon.

San Antonio could revisit a potential Young deal this summer, as the Atlanta Hawks look destined to shake things up following another underwhelming season. The Spurs supposedly top the potential list of Young trade suitors heading into the summer, and the star point guard has shown an interest in playing with Victor Wembanyama.

But should fans take these rumblings seriously? The Locked On Spurs podcast recently discussed that very topic.

Young’s offensive talent would help Wembanyama immensely, and the Spurs big man could help mitigate some of the undersized guard’s defensive weaknesses with his length and talent on that end.

But are the rumors real? Or is it all smoke?
