NFL Week 10 best bets: One wager to make for every team

We’ve got one bet to make on NFL every team in Week 10, from player props to picks against the spread.

The second half of the 2023 season officially begins this week with 14 games from Thursday to Monday night. It’s another week of what should be relatively close games, with only two contests featuring spreads larger than 6.5 points.

Things begin on Thursday night with the Panthers-Bears matchup and conclude on Monday night when the Broncos visit the Bills in an AFC showdown in Buffalo.

The NFL Wire editors have picked one bet to make on each team in the league this week. It’s a collection of player props, picks against the spread and more, giving bettors a nice variety of options in Week 10.

Note: The Chiefs, Rams, Dolphins and Eagles are on a bye this week.

All odds are courtesy of BetMGM.

The PGA Tour is back in California for the Genesis Invitational at Riviera Country Club, the second of back-to-back full-field designated events.

In all, 23 of the world’s top 25 players are in the field, along with 15-time major champion Tiger Woods. This will be his first non-major appearance since the 2020 Zozo Championship and first competitive event since the 2022 Open.

He has since played in The Match series and PNC Championship.

Newly-crowned world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler grabbed a top 10 here last season while the defending champion, Joaquin Niemann, now plays for LIV Golf.

Champions Classic 2022: Best bets for Kentucky vs. Michigan State, Kansas vs. Duke

Live odds, props and picks for the unofficial kick off to college basketball season.

Men’s college basketball may have officially started last week, but the season kicks off in earnest with the Champions Classic on Tuesday night.

The annual primetime event pits four of the top programs in college basketball against each other in rotating cities across the United States. No. 4 Kentucky vs. Michigan State will kick things off at 7 p.m. ET live from Indianapolis followed by No. 6 Kansas vs. No. 7 Duke after a brief intermission—during which the latest College Football Playoff rankings will be revealed.

The Kansas-Duke game will look a little bit different than casual fans are used to. Jon Scheyer has taken over for the recently retired Mike Krzyzewski on the Blue Devils’ sideline while assistant coach Norm Roberts will be handling duties for KU head coach Bill Self while he finishes up a a school-imposed four-game suspension related to a 2017 infractions case.

Yet the star power on the court won’t be lacking. Multiple five-star recruits, McDonalds All-Americans and NBA draft lottery prospects will take the floor, as per usual.

You’ll want to remember the names Dereck Lively II, Dariq Whitehead, Cason Wallace, Tyrese Proctor, Gradey Dick, Chris Livingston, Kevin McCullar and, of course, Oscar Tshiebwe as they’ll be impossible to avoid this season.

It’s a fantastic night for college basketball bettors. Let’s get into it.

MLB Prop Bets: Bank on these players to record the most hits in 2020

Making the best MLB prop bet picks to lead baseball in hits in the 60-game 2020 MLB season.

The small sample size of the 60-game 2020 MLB season means one hot streak by any player could have them in the running in the end-of-year awards and statistical-leader races. We continue looking at the top contenders at SportsbookWire.com and below, we’ll make our picks and best bets to lead MLB in hits in 2020, based on the MLB player futures odds at BetMGM.

2020 MLB hits leader best bets: Favorite

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated Wednesday, July 15 at 7:45 p.m. ET.

Atlanta Braves 2B Ozzie Albies (+2000)

Albies comes off a 2019 season in which he slashed .295/.352/.500 with 24 home runs and 15 stolen bases. He recorded an NL-best 189 hits across 160 games in just his second full season.

He’s expected to hit second in the powerful Braves lineup with OF Ronald Acuna Jr. controlling the leadoff spot. Albies walked more often and struck out less from 2018 to 2019 and should continue to improve his pitch selectivity.

2020 MLB hits leader best bets: Contender

Toronto Blue Jays SS Bo Bichette (+4000)

Bichette will lead off for what should be a strong Blue Jays batting order. He slashed .311/.358/.571 with 11 homers over 212 plate appearances and 46 games played after being called up to the bigs last season. His 23.6% strikeout rate and 6.6% walk rate will need to improve greatly this season, but he makes hard contact and doesn’t give up easy outs.

He should get plenty of at-bats on a team likely to put up a lot of runs and surprise many this season.

2020 MLB hits leader best bets: Long shot

Houston Astros OF George Springer (+10000)

If you’ve been following along with our MLB prop bet and awards pieces ahead of the 2020 MLB season, you’ll know the play is to target those with the longest odds on the board. Few players can be fully ruled out of contention over just a 60-game season, especially to lead the league in hits.

Regardless of the sign-stealing scandal, the Astros lineup is one of the best and most talented in all of baseball. Houston ranks third with 4,066 runs scored since the start of the 2015 season when Springer became an every-game player. He’ll hit atop that lineup once again after setting career highs with a .292/.383/.591 slash line and 12.1% walk rate and 39 home runs in 2019.

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on Springer to lead MLB in hits would return a profit of $1,000.

2020 Travelers Championship Prop Bet Payday: Matchups, Placing and FRL Picks

Analyzing prop bets for the 2020 Travelers Championship, with odds, picks and best bets for the best match betting and placing options.

The best way to ensure a consistent return on your investment when betting golf is to pair your outright picks with a broader series of safer prop bets. Below, we look at the best matchup, placing and first-round leader bets to make for the 2020 Travelers Championship this week at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Conn.

2020 Travelers Championship: Matchup bets

Odds provided by BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated Tuesday, June 23 at 11 p.m. ET.

Justin Rose vs. Paul Casey (-118)

Casey will appear in his first event since the PGA Tour resumed play, while Rose has finished T-3 and T-14 in two events back. Course history is on Casey’s side in the battle of Englishmen, as he has gained an average of 2.46 strokes per round on the field across 20 rounds played here, according to Data Golf. Rose has averaged 1.37 SG per round, but hasn’t played here since 2013.

Matthew Fitzpatrick vs. Marc Leishman (-105)

Fitzpatrick is coming off a T-14 finish last week, while Leishman took the week off following a missed cut at the Charles Schwab Challenge. The Aussie won this event in 2012 and already has a PGA Tour win in 2020 at the Farmers Insurance Open.

Xander Schauffele vs. Patrick Reed (+105)

Reed is coming off a missed cut on the heels of a T-7 finish at the Charles Schwab Challenge. Schauffele is favored in the head-to-head matchup following a disappointing T-64 finish of his own last week. Reed has had much better success here, highlighted by a T-5 showing in 2017, and is catching plus-money.

2020 Travelers Championship: Placing bets

Top American Player: Brooks Koepka (+1400)

Koepka is listed at +2000 to win this tournament and is taking only a very small hit when narrowing his top competition to Bryson DeChambeauJustin ThomasWebb Simpson and Patrick Cantlay. Koepka’s seventh-place finish last week was better than all but Simpson.

Top 5: Bubba Watson (+750)

Watson seeks to tie a tournament record with a fourth career victory at TPC River Highlands. Two of his three wins came in the last five years, and he has scored in the 60s in seven of eight rounds since play resumed.

Top 10: Doc Redman (+1600)

The 22-year-old excels on par 4s from 400-450 yards and on approach shots from 150-175 shots to represent a strong course fit as he seeks his first top-10 finish since a runner-up at last year’s Rocket Mortgage Classic. He gained 1.95 strokes per round on approach last week and can slice his way through this 6,841-yard venue.

Top 20: Hudson Swafford (+1200)

Ranked 134th in the Golfweek/Sagarin world rankings, Swafford jumped quite a bit with a T-9 finish in a strong field at the Waste Management Phoenix Open in February. He’s a strong putter on Bentgrass greens and he hits a lot of greens at these short courses.

2020 Travelers Championship: First-round leader bets

Corey Conners (+6600)

One of the best ball-strikers on Tour and a short-course wiz who can make sure he leaves himself with only short putts to limit his greatest weakness. Fired a second-round 63 last week and has scored in the 60s in six of eight rounds since the return.

Ryan Moore (+9000)

Few are more experienced here than Moore, who has played 44 rounds with an average of 1.75 strokes gained per round. He opened with a 64 at the Charles Schwab Challenge before shooting a Friday 74 to miss the cut.

Dylan Frittelli (+9000)

Frittelli opened the RBC Heritage with a 65, but it was quickly overshadowed by a Sunday 62 that earned him the early Round 4 lead. These are high odds for someone who shot the round of the day his last time out.

2020 Travelers Championship: Tournament specials

Winner NOT in final pairing final round: +175

There’s no easier bet to make than this one. These incredibly strong fields in the first two weeks since the PGA Tour returned have led to some high-profile and crowded weekend leaderboards and the last two winners came from outside of the final group. The tournament winner can even enter Sunday tied for the lead and/or playing from the second- or third-to-last pairing for this bet to cash.

The Match II: Betting odds, picks and prop bets for Woods-Manning vs. Mickelson-Brady

Highlighting the best prop bets for The Match II between Tiger Woods-Peyton Manning and Phil Mickelson-Tom Brady, with PGA Tour betting odds, picks and best bets.

[jwplayer cgj4eh7o]

Tiger Woods teams up with Peyton Manning Sunday to battle Phil Mickelson and Tom Brady in The Match: Champions for Charity. The sequel to the Woods vs. Mickelson showdown from Nov. 2018 is being held at Medalist Golf Club in Hobe Sound, Fla. and will begin at 2 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the best prop bets for The Match II and make our picks.

The Match II: Outright odds and best bet to win

Odds provided by BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated Wednesday, May 20 at 3 p.m. ET.

Woods/Manning: -223 | Mickelson/Brady: +160 (Price Boost: +180)

Woods and Manning, the rightful favorites, carried -208 odds Monday. With a $10 bet at the current price point returning a profit of just $4.81 with an outright win, the play is to HOLD until Sunday in wait of a higher number.

Rory McIlroy and Dustin Johnson were sizable favorites over Rickie Fowler and Matthew Wolff ahead of the TaylorMade Driving Relief event last week, but the line came much closer on the day of the match. Expect similar movement this week – especially with the inclusion of the famous NFL quarterbacks and a broader, sports-starved audience – to get the best odds on the favorites closer to tee time.

The Match II: Best prop bets

Longest drive on hole 3: Mickelson (+130)

Even amid a poor start to the 2020 PGA Tour season, Mickelson, ranked 222nd in the Golfweek/Sagarin world rankings, was outdriving Woods (16th) 301.1 yards to 291.1. The two PGA Tour pros share the +130 odds, but Mickelson is the pick.

Both Manning and Brady are +700 but don’t overthink this one. They’re still amateur golfers. Note: Per BetMGM rules, the ball has to be in the fairway to count.

Nearest the pin on hole 4: Brady (+600)

Though we’re trusting the pros above, the playing field becomes a little more level on the short par-3 fourth. It’s the shortest of the four par 3s at Medalist at just 191 yards in length.

Manning is typically the better golfer of the two future Hall of Fame QBs with a handicap of 6.4 to Brady’s 8.1, but on such a short hole chase the value with Brady holding the longest odds.

Who will lead after 9 holes? Woods/Manning (-112)

The teams will play the Four-Ball (Best Ball) format on the front nine with the better score of each twosome counting as the team score on each hole. As such, the first nine holes will primarily be Woods vs. Mickelson.

Trust in Woods’ superior world ranking and better play earlier in the 2020 season. The halftime odds are much more appealing for the favorites than their outright odds, and things will become much less predictable with a modified alternate shot format being played on the back.

Who will win hole 18? Woods/Manning (+220)

The expectation is that The Match II will go right down to the wire and the final hole, if not a playoff. It’s a charity event and it’s being televised; organizers will do all they can with various side bets and challenges to draw this out to an exciting finale.

Once there, stick by the opening favorites to pull off a dramatic victory. Woods will have his revenge over Mickelson, and Manning has plenty of reasons for wanting to get back at Brady.

Driving Relief: PGA Tour best bets for McIlroy/Johnson vs. Fowler/Wolff

Assessing PGA Tour props bets for the Driving Relief skins match between McIlroy-Johnson and Fowler-Wolff.

The PGA Tour is nearing its June 11 return with the Charles Schwab Challenge, but first, Rory McIlroy teams up with Dustin Johnson Sunday, May 17 to take on Rickie Fowler and Matthew Wolff in TaylorMade: Driving Relief. Below, we look at the PGA Tour betting odds for the outright winner and the top prop bets available at BetMGM Sportsbook.

Also see: How to Watch Driving Relief

The high-profile skins match being held at Seminole Golf Club in Juno Beach, Fla. will help raise money for COVID-19 relief efforts. Driving Relief offers golf bettors an appetizer to the May 24 match between Tiger Woods-Peyton Manning and Phil Mickelson-Tom Brady at Medalist Golf Club in Hobe Sound, Fla.

Driving Relief: Outright odds and best bet

Odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated Thursday, May 14 at 3 p.m. ET.

McIlroy/Johnson: -223 | Fowler/Wolff: +165

The outright odds to win the two-on-two match haven’t moved since opening a week ago. McIlroy and Johnson, the two higher-ranked golfers in the Golfweek/Sagarin world rankings, remain heavy favorites.

There isn’t a whole lot of value with the favorites as a $10 bet on McIlroy and Johnson to win the match will return a profit of just $4.48. The same bet on the underdogs would fetch a profit of $16.50, but it’s not enticing enough to warrant a wager.

Play it safe and back MCILROY/JOHNSON (-223) to win outright. Fill out your betting card with some of the best prop bets for a more profitable Sunday afternoon.

Driving Relief: Best prop bets and picks

Who will lead after 9 holes? Tie (+400)

Under the skins format, multiple holes can be won on a single stroke or putt should any number of preceding holes be halved (tied). Holes 1-6 will each be worth $50,000 with holes 7-15 worth $100,000, hole 17 worth $200,000 and hole 18 worth $500,000.

Chase the value of a 4-to-1 payout and look for the winnings to be split after the opening 9 holes. There’s a total of $600,000 up for grabs on the outbound nine with $1.3 million available on the back. The match won’t truly start until the turn.

Who will win the first hole? McIlroy/Johnson (+240)

The first hole at Seminole Golf Club is a 370-yard par 4. McIlroy and Johnson are the two longest hitters of the four involved in the match. Look for them to leave themselves short pitches into the green and for at least one to make an opening birdie.

McIlroy/Johnson to make an eagle: Yes (+280)

Driving Relief will be played under a Four-Ball (Best-Ball) format whereby the team’s score on the hole will be the lower of the two participants. As such, expect all four golfers to take their fair share of risks.

As noted above, McIlroy and Johnson are two of the longest hitters on the PGA Tour and can reach nearly all par 5s in two strokes. At nearly a 3-to-1 return for both golfers, place a bet on each of them. You’ll need to hit on only one to negate losses.

Each eagle is worth an additional $50,000 for charity, so the golfers will be well motivated.

Betting 101: How to bet on NASCAR for beginners

Looking at the various sports betting options centered around NASCAR, with betting advice, tips and definitions of key terms.

Wagering on NASCAR can be a daunting task for first-time bettors. In fact, you might lose a good chunk of money right off the bat if you simply try to pick a winner for each race out of a sea of drivers competing for the checkered flag. Luckily, there are more than a few ways to win money without having to choose the driver who will be doing celebratory burnouts before pulling into Victory Lane.

NASCAR betting: Ways to bet

Access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list of today’s sports betting odds and lines.

  • Choose the winner: Easily the most difficult. Similar to a moneyline bet in other sports, you will pick the driver who will win the race outright. There are tools you can use, such as Average-Finish Position (AFP) across previous races at a track, NASCAR Loop Data from previous stops, and knowing a driver’s production on certain types of tracks – flat tracks, intermediate, short tracks, superspeedways for example. If you hit on the winning driver, it can pay off handsomely, but it’s far more difficult than it sounds.
  • Selecting a driver to finish in the Top 3: If you like a driver, but aren’t confident of his finishing and winning the race, you can bet on him to finish inside the Top 3. This will not pay off nearly as well as an outright win, but it can still be rather lucrative. Sometimes the driver with the best car doesn’t always win, but he is right there at the end.
  • Driver vs. driver: For some of the major races, you can bet on Driver vs. Driver – or matchup betting. For example, wagering on a prop of Denny Hamlin vs. Kyle Busch is betting on which driver will finish higher. These are particularly popular for the Daytona 500 and other major races on the season. You can also participate in Group Betting where you select a driver among a group of four or five. If your pick finishes higher than the rest, you win.
  • Props: Again, this is mostly for the major races. Sportsbooks offer such props as “will a an odd- or even-numbered car win the race?” You can bet on the Over/Under of the car number of the winning driver. You can bet on whether the car manufacturer of the winning driver was Chevrolet, Ford or Toyota. Like the Super Bowl, or any major sporting event, these special props are available for the biggest races on the schedule. You can even bet the Over/Under on how many caution flags will come out during a race.

NASCAR betting: Key betting terms to know

  • Favorite: Similar to any other sport, the favorite – or chalk – is the driver with the greatest chance of winning the checkered flag.
  • Chalk: This refers to a heavy favorite. For example, +350 and higher is considered heavy chalk. Long shots for a particular race will be in the neighborhood of +2000 or greater.
  • Future betting: If you would like a long-term bet, you can choose a driver at the beginning of the season to win the NASCAR Cup Series championship. You can still make this bet during the season, as the odds are adjusted as the year goes on.

NASCAR betting: How do odds work?

NASCAR racing odds can vary greatly. There is rarely, if ever, a time where the favorite is minus-money. For example, if you were to bet an overwhelming favorite at +350, a $10 winning bet profits $350. An underdog wager at +2500 would profit $2500 on a $10 bet.
