1 pending free agent the Eagles could target from each NFC team

We’re looking at one pending free agent from each NFC team that the Philadelphia Eagles could target

Free agency is about two weeks away, and the Philadelphia Eagles have several players set to hit the open market. General manager Howie Roseman has to make critical decisions to fill roster holes.

While Roseman will likely look to the free agent market for answers, several in-house free agents are candidates to sign an extension ahead of free agency.

The Birds are set to have 20 pending free agents, and with another likely retool schedule on defense, the organization could conjure up a scheme for more flexibility.

According to Over the Cap’s potential transaction chart, the Eagles can easily create $35.4 million in cap space by making these five moves.

With the new league year fast approaching, we’re looking at one pending free agent from each NFC team that could interest Philadelphia.

A.J. Brown cracks painful but funny joke about being ‘traumatized’ for draft

A.J. Brown isn’t alone when he says he’s “traumatized” going into this year’s draft following the 2022 trade between the Titans and Eagles.

When the 2023 NFL draft begins on Thursday, April 27, Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown and the Tennessee Titans will be approaching an anniversary that serves as a painful reminder for the latter’s fans.

Friday will mark the one-year anniversary of former general manager Jon Robinson pulling off one of the worst trades in franchise history when he dealt Brown to the Eagles during the first round of the 2022 NFL draft.

Calling it one of the worst trades in franchise history isn’t a knock on Treylon Burks — the player they took to replace Brown — but rather the trade simply being a terrible idea in and of itself.

To add more salt to the wound, Brown went on to have a sensational season in his first year in Philly, while the Titans sported one of the worst offenses — and receiving corps., in particular — in the NFL.

On the morning of this year’s draft, Brown unfortunately reminded us of the 2022 trade by hilariously stating he’s “traumatized” on draft day after what happened last year.

If there was ever a time to laugh and cry at the same time…

As painful as the trade is to this day, even the most pissed off Titans fan has to get a kick out of this tweet from Brown, not only because it’s funny, but because everyone who hated that trade is feeling the same way.

That’s right, you are not alone.

Washington remains in the top 10 of the 2022 NFL draft order

Washington remains in the top 10, but dropped three spots from a week ago.

If the 2021 NFL season ended today, the NFC East would hold five of the top 10 picks in the 2022 NFL draft. With almost half of the current season remaining, that’s not exactly where you want to be, but it should make for an exciting offseason.

The Washington Football Team picked up a big win in Week 10, upsetting the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 29-19, to snap a four-game losing streak and improve to 3-6 on the season.

The win didn’t prove too costly for Washington’s draft hopes either, as the WFT now holds the No. 9 spot according to Tankathon, falling three positions from last week.

Washington desperately needs to find a long-term answer at quarterback; something fans have been pleading for over the last 30 years. Washington thought it had its man in Robert Griffin III and Kirk Cousins, but neither worked out for different reasons.

There are plenty of quarterbacks in the discussion for the first round in 2022: Sam Howell of North Carolina, Carson Strong of Nevada, Malik Willis of Liberty, Matt Corral of Ole Miss, and Kenny Pickett of Pitt are just some of the names.

So, Washington will have a chance to find its guy in 2022, whether through the draft or the trade market.

Here is a complete look at the current top 10 for the 2022 NFL draft, if the season ended today:

  • Detroit
  • Houston
  • New York Jets
  • Jacksonville
  • Philadelphia (via Miami)
  • New York Giants
  • New York Jets (via Seattle)
  • New York Giants (via Chicago)
  • Washington
  • Philadelphia

Broncos QB Teddy Bridgewater explains decision to not tackle Darius Slay

Teddy Bridgewater said he thought, ‘maybe I can force the ball back inside and one of our guys can make the tackle’ on Darius Slay’s return.

Trailing by seven points late in the third quarter of Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles, the Denver Broncos faced a 4th-and-1. Denver opted to go for it, handing the ball off to veteran running back Melvin Gordon.

Gordon ran into a pile and then fumbled the ball. Eagles cornerback Darius Slay recovered the fumble and then returned it 82 yards for a touchdown to give Philly a 14-point lead going into the fourth quarter.

Broncos quarterback Teddy Bridgewater had an opportunity to at least slow Slay down, but he pulled back, a choice that fans and pundits deemed a “business decision” on social media.

Following a 30-13 loss, Bridgewater was asked about the play.

“As I see it, I see a guy trying to block, and I’m just thinking, hey, man, maybe I can force the ball back inside and one of our guys can make the tackle.”

Broncos coach Vic Fangio said in his post-game press conference that he did not have a clear view of the return. After watching the film, Fangio will likely be asked about Bridgewater’s effort again on Monday.

As the team enters its bye, that play — and Bridgewater’s decision — will be the hot topic in Denver this week.

Ex-NFL player, assistant coach Eugene Chung: Interviewer said I wasn’t a minority

Former NFL player and assistant coach Eugene Chung says he was told he was not ‘the right minority’ during an interview

A distressing story from former New England Patriot Eugene Chung on Saturday.

The offensive tackle from 1992-94 with New England told the Boston Globe he was interviewing for an assistant coaching position when he heard the following:

Per the Boston Globe:

“It was said to me, ‘Well, you’re really not a minority,’ ” Chung recalled.

Chung, who is Korean, froze.

“I was like, ‘Wait a minute. The last time I checked, when I looked in the mirror and brushed my teeth, I was a minority,’ ” he said. “So I was like, ‘What do you mean I’m not a minority?’ ”

The interviewer responded, “You are not the right minority we’re looking for.”

Chung was the assistant offensive line coach for the Kansas City Chiefs from 2013-15 under head coach Andy Reid, after serving three seasons with him in Philadelphia Eagles in the same capacity.

Chung was rehired by the Eagles on Jan. 20, 2016, by head coach Doug Pederson, who was Chung’s offensive coordinator with the Chiefs.

Chung was with the Eagles for Super Bowl LII when they defeated the New England Patriots 41-33.

Chung is of Korean descent and became only the third person of Asian descent to play professional American football when he was drafted in 1992. He was also the first Korean-American to be drafted in the first round.

“I asked about it, and as soon as the backtracking started, I was like, ‘Oh no, no, no, no, no, you said it. Now that it’s out there, let’s talk about it,’ ” Chung said. “It was absolutely mind-blowing to me that in 2021, something like that is actually a narrative.”

Alex Singleton under contract for 2021 season after signing exclusive rights tender

After signing his exclusive free agent tender, Alex Smith is now under contract.

The Philadelphia Eagles have quietly gone about keeping three key players in the fold after tending exclusive rights free agent Alex Singleton per Over The Cap.

A key member of the Eagles defense in 2020, Singleton has signed his deal and will make $850,000.

Singleton recorded 120 tackles (75 solo), two sacks, one interception, two fumble recoveries, and one touchdown in 2020 and should be a key member of Jonathan Gannon’s defense in Philadelphia.

Jets’ free agent QB Joe Flacco to visit Eagles

It looks as though the Jets won’t bring Joe Flacco back in 2021 after his second offseason visit.

Joe Flacco might stay on the East Coast.

A few days after the Jets free agent quarterback visited the 49ers, Flacco is heading to Philadelphia to visit with the Eagles, according to Pro Football Talk.

Flacco would play backup to presumed Eagles starter Jalen Hurts after Philly traded Carson Wentz to the Colts earlier this offseason. Flacco, a New Jersey native, threw for 864 yards, six touchdowns and three interceptions in five games last year. He filled in for the injured Sam Darnold on two separate occasions and started four games, though he didn’t win any of them.

After two offseason visits, it looks like Joe Douglas won’t be keeping the quarterback he scouted during his and Flacco’s time with the Ravens.
