Georgia misses out on 4-star tight end Moliki Matavao…

On Monday, 4-star 2021 tight end Moliki Matavao (Henderson, Nevada) released a top-four of Georgia, Oregon, Penn State and UCLA.

On Wednesday night, Matavao put an end to his recruitment and announced that he will be attending Oregon.

As for Georgia and the tight end position, the Bulldogs are still heavily recruiting 4-star Brock Bowers out of Napa, California. At 6-foot-3, he is the nation’s No. 51 overall player according to 247Sports.

It’s not all bad news for Georgia on the recruiting trail, though. On Tuesday, the Dawgs picked up a commitment from 4-star outside linebacker Chaz Chambliss. Then on Wednesday night, just a few hours before Matavao’s announcement, Georgia received its first 2022 commitment from 4-star cornerback Marquis Groves-Killebrew.

Georgia currently has eight commits in the class of 2021 and has the nation’s No. 16 ranked class.

4-star DT and Georgia recruiting target sets new commitment date

4-star DT Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins, a Georgia football recruiting target, set a new commitment date.

Last week, 2021 four-star defensive tackle Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins released a top six of Georgia, North Carolina, Florida State, South Carolina, Penn State and Tennessee.

Prior to revealing his final group, the 6-foot-5-inch, 298-pounder tweeted that he would announce his decision on Sunday, May 17.

Shortly after, he decided he needed some more time to make this life-changing decision.

Ingram-Dawkins now has a new commitment date of June 26, which is his birthday.

“I’m committing June 26th, on my birthday,” Ingram-Dawkins said on Instagram Live.

247Sports has Ingram-Dawkins as the nation’s No. 17 ranked defensive tackle and as the top player in the state of South Carolina.

Per the composite rankings, he is considered the nation’s 408th overall player.

Per 247Sports, South Carolina is viewed as the leader for Ingram-Dawkins, with Georgia close behind.

But Ingram-Dawkins said he does not pay much attention to the crystal ball on his 247Sports player profile.

The crystal ball is their way of  projecting where a recruit will land by having  a few recruiting analysts make predictions for specific players.

Georgia offered him in January and got him on campus in early-March.

Four-star tight end Theo Johnson makes commitment

Theo Johnson is a four-star TE, & is the top rated player in Canada. He played for Holy Names High School and is from Windsor, Ontario.

Theo Johnson has committed to play college football at Penn State University. Johnson is a four-star tight end, and is the top rated player in Canada. Johnson played for Holy Names High School and is from Windsor, Ontario. He’s in the class of 2020.

The four-star announced his commitment today:

Johnson’s top four schools were: Michigan, Iowa, Penn State and Georgia. Penn State was favored to land the Canadian, but Georgia was considered his second most likely destination. Georgia needs to land a talented tight end in the class of 2020.

Georgia can use another tight end with the departures of senior Charlie Woerner and graduate transfer Eli Wolf. Georgia will have John FitzPatrick, a former four-star, next season, but he’s seldom played this season. The Dawgs could still use more depth and play-making at the position.

Johnson has incredible size at 6’6″, 240 pounds and impressive athleticism. He has great vertical leap skills. He’ll be playing in the 2020 Under Armor All-American before he heads to Penn State.

Best of luck to Johnson in school at Penn State. He’ll be much closer to home. Georgia will look to add a five-star tight end out of Nevada, who has been compared to Zion Williamson.
