Robert Horry’s son Christian Horry commits to UCLA as walk-on

Harvard-Westlake guard Christian Horry, son of former Laker Robert Horry, announced he will continue playing basketball at UCLA.

A key player on one of the consistently great teams in the nation, Christian Horry of Harvard-Westlake (Studio City, Calif.) has been in the eye of recruiters and analysts all season. He announced on social media platform X last week that he’s made his collegiate decision, and it’s to a region that knows his family very well.

Horry, son of former Los Angeles Lakers player Robert Horry, accepted an offer from UCLA to join the team as a walk-on, according to the Los Angeles Times. The class of 2024 shooting guard posted to X “Thank you to Coach Savino and everyone on the UCLA staff for believing in me and helping me reach my dreams.”

This season, Horry is averaging 10 points and five rebounds per game while shooting 42% from 3 for Harvard-Westlake (Studio City, Calif.), according to 247Sports. The recruiting outlet wrote that Horry is a 3-and-D style player who is “a very good three-point shooter while playing tough, hard-nosed defense,” while LA Times reporter Ben Bolch wrote Horry “might be capable of making an impact given his toughness and defensive determination” as a walk-on.

Robert posted a congratulations to his son on X, saying, “One dream accomplished, many more to go:”

Horry adds to UCLA’s class of 2024, which includes four-star guard Eric Freeny. The Bruins are currently 14-11 and have won six games in a row.

Deion Sanders responds to incident of prospective UCLA recruits accused of stealing from Colorado locker room

A group of potential UCLA recruits were accused of stealing Colorado possessions. Deion Sanders called for leniency in consequence for them.

A group of potential recruits for UCLA were accused of stealing jewelry and cash from the Colorado locker room during the Buffaloes’ game against the Bruins at the Rose Bowl Stadium on Oct. 28, according to a variety of reports.

The names of suspects, from Beaumont High School in Riverside County, were not released. The suspects are minors, Pasadena police said to USA TODAY, and the case was handed to the juvenile division of the district attorney’s office, according to the outlet.

No arrests had been made as of Monday, according to USA TODAY.

UCLA said the students were not there on an official visit. Beaumont Unified School District is cooperating with the investigation.

Colorado head coach Deion Sanders called for the Rose Bowl to reimburse players for the missing items, but he also said on Tuesday that he doesn’t want the students accused of theft to “lose opportunities to change their lives.”

“Let’s not crucify and punish these high school kids,” he said. “They are kids. They made a stupid, dumb, idiotic mistake. When I was 17, 18, so did I. All right? So did you.” See his full statement in Bleacher Report.

Some of the items have been returned to the victims since the theft, Pasadena police said to USA TODAY.

UCLA won the game 28-16.

Four-star RB Roderick Robinson stays in state, commits to UCLA

UCLA got the commitment of four-star running back Roderick Robinson on Thursday.

It didn’t take Roderick Robinson long to figure out that his first official visit was the school he wanted to return to.

On Thursday, the four-star running back out of Lincoln High School (San Diego, Calif.) elected to stay in-state and commit to UCLA. He visited the Bruins on the weekend of May 13, according to CBS Sports.

247Sports reported that Robinson was offered by UCLA in February and had an unofficial visit to the campus in April. He had 25 offers, according to the recruiting outlet, including from 10 Pac-12 schools.

Recruitment rankings differ on Robinson, but 247Sports lists him as the 16th-best running back in the class of 2023. The outlet’s composite lists him as a three-star player. As a junior, he rushed for 1,273 yards and 17 touchdowns.

Robinson told 247Sports that UCLA head coach Chip Kelly compared him to current Bruins running back Zach Charbonnet, who also played high school ball in California.

“He said he had a lot of success everywhere he has been with big backs and UCLA is one of those schools that definitely runs the ball really well. It’s an offense that features a power run game and I know I can fit in really well with what they want to do,” Robinson said.

UCLA now has three commits in the class of 2023. All three are in-state commits, as three-star safety Ty Lee attends St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.) and three-star wide receiver Grant Gray hails from Norco (Calif.)

Then on Wednesday night, just a few hours before Matavao’s announcement, Georgia received its first 2022 commitment from 4-star cornerback Marquis Groves-Killebrew.

Georgia currently has eight commits in the class of 2021 and has the nation’s No. 16 ranked class.
