PFF names two Georgia Bulldogs to its All-Returning offense

Pro Football Focus names two top Georgia Bulldogs to its All-Returning Team’s offense

Pro Football Focus has named Georgia quarterback Carson Beck and offensive guard Tate Ratledge to its All-Returning offense. Beck is college football’s leading returning passer and will have numerous weapons at his disposal including several new transfers.

Beck and the Georgia offense got a boost this winter when offensive linemen Tate Ratledge and Xavier Truss announced their return for another season. Georgia’s offensive line should be stout again even though the Bulldogs are replacing right tackle Amarius Mims and center Sedrick Van Pran.

As a returning starter, Carson Beck enters the spring with an increased level of confidence. “Coming back, having been the starter, I can kind of hone in and focus more on what I need to improve on compared to just trying to compete against other guys. I can really focus on competing against myself,” said Beck.

Below is a look at PFF’s full All-Returning Team on offense.

Carson Beck and Tate Ratledge are big reasons why Georgia is preseason national championship favorites (+350).

The Bulldogs have a tough schedule ahead in 2024, but have a few premier offensive pieces that should have the Dawgs score with college football’s elite this fall.

Starting Georgia football OL announces 2024 return

All-SEC offensive guard announces a 2024 return to Georgia football

Georgia Bulldogs starting offensive guard Tate Ratledge announced that he plans to return to Athens for the 2024 season. Ratledge started 27 games during the last two seasons for Georgia. His return brings continuity to the Georgia offensive front.

Ratledge was named as a coaches All-SEC first-team selection and as an AP All-American for his efforts in 2023. Ratledge will return for a fifth season in Athens. He is projected to be Georgia’s top offensive lineman in 2024. The 6-foot-6, 310-pound offensive lineman was likely to be an NFL draft selection, but instead he is opting to try to win another national championship at Georgia.

Georgia Bulldog was PFF’s highest-graded guard in Week 6

UGA football offensive guard Tate Ratledge was PFF’s highest-graded offensive guard in Week 6

Georgia Bulldogs offensive guard Tate Ratledge was Pro Football Focus’ highest-graded offensive guard in Week 6. Ratledge helped Georgia rack up over 600 yards of total offense in the Bulldogs’ dominant 51-13 win over Kentucky.

Ratledge and the Georgia offensive line have played very well to start the 2023 season. Georgia is 6-0. The offensive line had no presnap penalties on the road in a loud environment at Auburn a few weeks ago. Georgia has allowed starting quarterback Carson Beck to be sacked just three times on 196 passing attempts.

Tate Ratledge received a 81.7 rating from PFF in the Kentucky game. Ratledge was a preseason All-SEC First-Team selection and is living up to the hype. The junior offensive lineman has started 20 of the last 21 Georgia games at right guard. The Bulldogs have won 23 straight games overall.

Georgia, who plays at Vanderbilt in Week 7, has not lost a road game since 2020.

Strong offensive line play is a big reason behind Georgia’s success over the past couple of seasons. Offensively, Georgia is currently averaging 40.7 points per game (No. 3 in the SEC). The Bulldogs average 502.3 total yards per game, which is second in the SEC behind LSU.

Georgia OT Amarius Mims poised for breakout year

Georgia offensive tackle Amarius Mims has stepped up according to teammate…

Questions surround a Georgia offensive front that will have to replace both starting tackles in the 2023 season.

Broderick Jones and Warren McClendon are NFL-bound, so where do the Bulldogs turn?

Third-year tackle Amarius Mims, a former five-star recruit in the 2021 recruiting class, may be the answer at right tackle.

Mims played in 12 games as a reserve in 2022 and played well respectively.

Offensive guard Tate Ratledge spoke highly of Mims and his mindset so far in spring practice.

“He’s gotten very mature with how he goes about things, just coming into practice, not really taking plays off and things like that. [He’s] just going out there and grinding every day and just really stepping into the shoes that he’s got to fill.”

Georgia’s offensive line finished runner-up for the 2022 Joe Moore Award for the best offensive line unit in the country. The expectations are high in 2023, but the talent is there for the back-to-back national champions.

Georgia OL Tate Ratledge talks Bulldogs offensive line battle

“We have a lot of competition going on. [We’re] just competing every day and with a lot of depth”

One of Georgia football’s biggest questions for the 2023 season is along the offensive line.

The Bulldogs lose starting left tackle Broderick Jones and starting right tackle Warren McClendon to this year’s NFL draft.

Starting center Sedrick Van Pran elected to delay turning pro and will be back as the anchor up front, along with starting left guard Xavian Truss and starting right guard Tate Ratledge.

Ratledge, a rising redshirt junior, spoke on the changes along the Georgia offensive line after a spring practice session last week.

“We have a lot of competition going on. [We’re] just competing every day and with a lot of depth, I think one of Coach Searels’ goals is to find a starting five and then find a backup group where there’s not much drop-off. I think right now we do a lot where everybody gets a lot of reps, so there’s no telling [who will play where]. People are getting a lot of reps every practice.”

Rising junior Amarius Mims is a key contender at right tackle. The former five-star prospect saw action as a reserve in 12 games in 2022.

Ratledge mentioned Mims has a different mindset so far this offseason.

“He’s gotten very mature with how he goes about things, just coming into practice, not really taking plays off and things like that,” Ratledge said. “[He’s] just going out there and grinding every day and just really stepping into the shoes that he’s got to fill.”

Rising redshirt junior Austin Blaske and rising redshirt freshman Earnest Greene are battling for the left tackle spot. Blaske appeared in nine games last season and Greene missed the season due to injury.

There is plenty of time to make decisions of how the offensive front will look for the Bulldogs. The talent is there but finding continuity is the challenge.

Ratledge says the impact of the returning starters is helping the process.

“I think we have a couple guys that have been through it and know what to do, can really help the young guys come along and kind of take people under their wing and kind of show them the way.”

You can catch the Dawgs live from Sanford Stadium in the annual ‘G-Day’ game scheduled for April 15.

Georgia OG Tate Ratledge ranked among best returning interior lineman

PFF ranks top returning IOL…

Georgia offensive guard Tate Ratledge made the most of the opportunity to help anchor the Bulldogs front at right guard in 2022.

After a foot injury in the season opener derailed Ratledge’s 2021 season, the redshirt sophomore battled junior Warren Ericson for the right guard role and ultimately, was named starter for the 2022 season opener versus Oregon.

Ratledge went on to start 12 of 13 regular season games and maintained the role in the postseason.

Chad Maxwick of Pro Football Focus recently tabbed Ratledge as the seventh best returning interior offensive lineman.

The Rome, Ga., native was a part of Georgia’s No. 1 ranked 2020 recruiting class as the No. 3 offensive tackle, the No. 5 player in the state and the No. 38 prospect overall, according to 247Sports.

UGA offensive line deserves credit for dominant season, CFP performance

The Georgia offensive line was superb in pass protection all season

The Georgia offensive line deserves a lot of credit for its role in helping the Bulldogs win back-to-back national championships. Last year, Broderick Jones stepped into the starting line up against Will Anderson and Alabama and helped turn the tide in Georgia’s 33-18 win.

This year, Georgia’s offensive front absolutely dominated TCU in the national championship. For a second straight year, Georgia leaned on a former five-star recruit, who had not been starting, in key moments throughout the College Football Playoff. In 2022, the Dawgs relied on Amarius Mims after the usual starting right tackle, Warren McClendon, suffered a knee injury in the SEC championship.

The 2022 Georgia offensive line was particularly effective as pass blockers. Broderick Jones, Xavier Truss, Sedrick Van Pran, Tate Ratledge, and company allowed just nine sacks in 15 games this season. In 2022, Georgia attempted 492 passes, which means that the Bulldogs allowed sacks on 1.8% of passing plays or approximately every 55 pass attempts.

PFF pointed out Georgia’s dominance against TCU and claims the Dawgs only allowed three pressures. Quarterback Stetson Bennett was barely touched in Georgia’s championship win.

Georgia’s offensive front gave Stetson Bennett just enough time to pass, despite being in obvious passing situations, in the Dawgs’ CFP semifinals win over Ohio State.

Georgia had its best offensive attack in a longtime (or maybe its best offense ever) thanks in large part to the offensive line. Georgia scored 44 rushing touchdowns and averaged 501.1 total yards per game in 2022.

The Great Wall of Georgia brought physicality, toughness, and a championship in the first year under offensive line coach Stacy Searles. Georgia’s quarterbacks stayed clean and were rarely flustered by the opposing pass rush.

Georgia injury report ahead of UGA vs UAB

Multiple Bulldogs, including star QB JT Daniels are dealing with injuries ahead of Georgia’s home opener vs. UAB….

Georgia football is set to take on UAB in the 2021 home opener in Athens on Saturday afternoon. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. but some Bulldogs won’t be taking the field.

UGA has battled injuries throughout fall camp and into the Clemson matchup last Saturday night. The story is no different in week-two, as star quarterback J.T. Daniels is now nursing an upper body injury that may keep him sidelined versus the Blazers.

Early reports suggest an oblique strain or some kind of core injury, although coach Kirby Smart has not yet confirmed. Redshirt freshman Carson Beck received a large number of first-team reps at practice on Tuesday.

The offensive line took a hit this week as starting right guard Tate Ratledge underwent foot surgery and will miss the remainder of the season due to an injury suffered against Clemson.

At receiver, the Bulldogs are still missing star Dominick Blaylock, who is recovering from an ACL tear suffered last year. Smart said Blaylock is close to 100%. Kearis Jackson, the leading pass catcher a year ago, only returned punts against Clemson and is still not fully recovered from knee surgery this summer.

Fellow wideout George Pickens is still rehabbing from an ACL tear suffered in the spring, and LSU transfer Arik Gilbert is still not with the team due to a personal issue.

Tight end Darnell Washington and defensive back Tykee Smith are working their way back from foot surgeries done just a few weeks ago. Smart did say the two were at least moving around, suggesting they should be back at some point this season.

Here’s an updated look at Georgia’s injury report ahead of the matchup with UAB.

Report: Georgia loses starting OL for rest of season

Tate Ratledge done for the year.

Georgia will be without starting offensive lineman Tate Ratledge for the remainder of the 2021 season, per a Facebook post from the redshirt freshman’s mother.

Ratledge injured his foot very early in Saturday night’s win over Clemson and had to be taken to the locker room via cart after being helped to the sideline.

He will undergo surgery for a lisfranc ligament injury, per Marc Weiszer of OnlineAthens.com.

Ratledge, a 4-star recruit in the class of 2020 out of Darlington School in Rome, Georgia, was making his first career start and playing in his second career game.

“Thank you to everyone for the thoughts and prayers! I’ll be back! #GoDawgs Romans 5:3-5,” the 6-foot-6, 320-pound Ratledge tweeted.

Junior Warren Ericson checked in to fill in for Ratledge.

Ratledge was later seen wearing a boot on the sideline.

Projecting Georgia’s depth chart for interior offensive line

Projecting Georgia’s depth chart for interior offensive line. The Bulldogs return a lot of experience along the offensive line.

The Georgia Bulldogs are returning much more offensive line experience in 2021 than they did in 2020. Georgia has recruited along the offensive front at a high level in recent seasons.

Georgia has stacked talent at the offensive tackle and center positions. The Dawgs don’t have as many highly ranked offensive guard recruits, but that’s okay because veteran offensive guard Justin Shaffer decided to return for a fifth season in Athens.

Here’s who we project to start along the interior of Georgia’s offensive line:
