Ohio State loses defensive end to the transfer portal

We wish him the best of luck #GoBucks

It was assumed the reason [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] hadn’t suffered many transfer portal losses was it’s berth in the [autotag]College Football Playoff[/autotag] semifinal. Unfortunately as we all know, the Buckeyes couldn’t hold off Georgia late and their season came to an end.

The first significant portal domino fell Monday. Fifth-year senior defensive end [autotag]Javontae Jean-Baptiste[/autotag] has entered. A rotation player for Larry Johnson’s group, Jean-Baptiste saved his best for his last season with the Buckeyes. He registered 19 tackles, 4 sacks and recovered a fumble, all career highs.

Although Jean-Baptiste has not made a formal announcement about transferring, multiple sources have confirmed his entrance into the portal.

A top-300 prospect from New Jersey, he didn’t make the impact many though he would, but Jean-Baptiste still had a very solid Ohio State career. We wish him the best as he looks to finish his collegiate football eligibility somewhere other than Columbus.

Kirk Herbstreit: Ryan Day could ‘stop calling plays next year’

The conversation has happened #GoBucks

Ohio State’s [autotag]Ryan Day[/autotag] is one of the few head coaches who still calls his team’s offensive plays. That could be coming to an end as the Buckeye boss enters his sixth season at the helm.

According to former [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] quarterback and current ESPN analyst [autotag]Kirk Herbstreit[/autotag], Day told him during one of their production meetings that he was thinking of relinquishing play calling next year in an effort “to be more of a manager as a head coach.” Herbstreit went on to explain the rationale by saying “when you’re prepping a game plan, it’s a lot more that goes into it Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday to be ready to call those plays on Saturday.”

Keep in mind that Herbstreit said Day “is thinking about relinquishing” calling plays. The decision has not been made. With offensive coordinator [autotag]Kevin Wilson[/autotag] now the head coach at [autotag]Tulsa[/autotag], there is an open role in Columbus.

The first name that the former Buckeye quarterback mentioned was [autotag]Brian Hartline[/autotag], which makes plenty of sense. He could still coach the wide receivers while calling plays on Saturdays. Since we have yet to hear what the exact plans are from Day himself, at this moment it’s just conjecture.

5 Stars: The best and worst of Ohio State’s crushing loss to Georgia in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl

A tough pill to swallow #GoBucks

This is going to be a long eight months plus until [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] gets back on the football field to get rid the bitter taste in our mouths.

Georgia mounted the biggest comeback in College Football Playoff history, winning the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl, 42-41, in dramatic fashion.

It was a crushing blow for an Ohio State team that was told for a month that it back-doored its way in and didn’t deserve to be there. The Buckeyes didn’t win the game, but I think they still proved a lot even with a loss.

There were some good things (five stars) and bad (one star) during Saturday’s tough loss for to Buckeyes. We break it down.

Watch: Ohio State takes lead back right before half on another Stroud touchdown pass

The Buckeyes take the lead back before the half #GoBucks

The Buckeyes led for the majority of this contest against Georgia in the [autotag]College Football Playoff[/autotag] semi-finals but found themselves trailing for the first time all game with just 1:44 before the half. [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] head coach [autotag]Ryan Day[/autotag] had been adamant about being aggressive, taking chances and he took one.

With no timeouts, the Buckeyes drove right down the field in four plays, spanning just 55 seconds to retake the lead. Quarterback[autotag]C.J. Stroud[/autotag], who has been on fire during this game, went 4-for-4 finding [autotag]Xavier Johnson[/autotag] to start the drive, with a pass to [autotag]Emeka Egbuka[/autotag] and [autotag]Julian Fleming[/autotag] sandwiched around another pass to Johnson which was the scoring play. Stroud found the walk-on over the middle for a 37-yard touchdown pass to give Ohio State a 28-24 lead just before the half.

The response was much needed as the Bulldogs were on a 17-0 run to take the lead. The Buckeyes would go into the half a slim lead in the [autotag]Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl[/autotag].

Watch: Ohio State takes a 2-touchdown lead after a Georgia interception

The Buckeyes strike quick after a turnover #GoBucks

The Buckeyes are making a statement. Not many people thought they could play with Georgia, the defending [autotag]College Football Playoff[/autotag] champions, but this is exactly why they play the game.

[autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] had recaptured a touchdown lead after a Miyan Williams 2-yard scoring plunge. On the first play from scrimmage, Bulldog quarterback [autotag]Stetson Bennett[/autotag] made his first mistake of the game, throwing an interception to linebacker [autotag]Steele Chambers[/autotag].

It would take the Buckeyes just three plays to find the end zone again, as quarterback [autotag]C.J. Stroud[/autotag] found wide receiver [autotag]Marvin Harrison Jr.[/autotag] for the second time in the contest for a touchdown.

The 16-yard scoring play would give the Buckeyes a 21-7 lead early in the second quarter. This game has been just as entertaining as the first CFP game played earlier in the day.

ESPN’s College GameDay selects winner of Ohio State vs Georgia and the other College Football Playoff game

Who do you think wins today? #GoBucks

The Buckeyes and Bulldogs will have to wait until prime time for them to find out who will play for a National Championship in about two weeks. ESPN’s College GameDay had a choice between the two semi-final games and chose Ohio State taking on Georgia in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl.

It was an expanded crew selecting the games as David Pollack, Jesse Palmer and Joey Galloway joined Desmond Howard, Lee Corso Pat McAfee and Kirk Herbstreit in selecting who will win the College Football Playoff games this afternoon. Find out below who picked who to win the biggest games of this season starting off with the OSU and UGA matchup. (Herbstreit did not pick this game due to calling it.)

Another Ohio State offensive tackle transfer offer goes out

The Bucks are looking for OT help in the portal #GoBucks

It seems like [autotag]Ryan Day[/autotag] is tipping his hand a bit on what his current offensive tackles intentions are after playing in the [autotag]College Football Playoff[/autotag]. Both [autotag]Paris Johnson Jr.[/autotag] and [autotag]Dawand Jones[/autotag] have eligibility remaining after this year, but the recent action on the transfer trail might signal that Day knows both his starting tackles will be making the jump to the NFL.

Having already offered Rhode Island transfer offensive tackle [autotag]Ajani Cornelius[/autotag] earlier this week, the offer to UTEP tackle [autotag]Jeremiah Byers[/autotag] flew a bit under the radar. The Buckeyes followed offers from schools like [autotag]Penn State[/autotag], [autotag]Florida State[/autotag], [autotag]Oregon[/autotag] and others.

Byers has already visited FSU and has yet to announce if he will be taking other visits at the time of this post. With Day already offering two tackles from the portal, expect at least a few more offers to come from the position, especially if neither of them ultimately visit Columbus.

Ohio State offers massive transfer portal offensive tackle

The Buckeyes are looking to the portal to fill potential gaps on their offensive line

Even though I’d like to believe [autotag]Ryan Day[/autotag] reads my content, I know he doesn’t.

What I do know is we both see a need at offensive tackle, especially considering the potential for both tackles, [autotag]Paris Johnson Jr.[/autotag] and [autotag]Dawand Jones[/autotag], to move to the next level after this season.

At minimum, one of the two will leave early. And with not much experience behind them, Day pulled the trigger on former Rhode Island offensive tackle [autotag]Ajani Cornelius[/autotag] and offered him a scholarship. The lineman checks in at 6 feet, 4 inches and 320 pounds. He is getting interest from a good number of Power Five programs, including Oregon, Nebraska, Tennessee, Boston College and Illinois.

The next step for the Buckeyes is getting Cornelius on campus, something Oregon did this past weekend. Hopefully Day can get that visit soon to show Cornelius what Ohio State has to offer.

Ohio State wide receivers coach Brian Hartline receives an honor from On3

No surprise here #GoBucks

A few weeks ago there was chatter that Buckeye wide receiver coach Brian Hartline could be an option for multiple schools to fill their head coaching vacancies. In just four short years, the former [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] star has elevated himself in the coaching ranks and is viewed as one of the best in the country.

Hartline has coached multiple first round picks ([autotag]Garrett Wilson[/autotag], [autotag]Chris Olave[/autotag] and one can argue [autotag]Jameson Williams[/autotag]) and has seen a total of seven of his former players get drafted. It’s not just production on the field, it’s off it as well as the receivers coach has gotten a reputation as being one of the best recruiters in the country.

Today, more recognition for Hartline, as [autotag]On3[/autotag] named him their national positional coach of the year.

This season just 26 players eclipsed the 1,000 yard mark and Hartline coached two of them, [autotag]Marvin Harrison Jr.[/autotag] and [autotag]Emeka Egbuka[/autotag]. The Buckeyes were one of two teams to have two players reach that mark but Harrison Jr. and Egbuka’s total were more than the Arizona’s pair. It’s another impressive feather in Hartline’s cap and the Ohio State administration should give him a well deserved raise to ensure he is kept around.

Ohio State DE Zach Harrison will play in Senior Bowl to cap his collegiate career

The senior will get another chance to be on a big stage

The Senior Bowl is the most prestigious post-collegiate bowl and can really help a prospects [autotag]NFL Draft[/autotag] status. We have seen plenty of [autotag]Senior Bowl[/autotag] participants rise up on teams draft boards, especially due to the fact that NFL teams will have full access to those players for a week of practices, interviews and of course, the game.

Ohio State has sent some of their best seniors to the game (last year [autotag]Jeremy Ruckert[/autotag], [autotag]Haskell Garrett[/autotag] and [autotag]Tyreke Smith[/autotag]) and this year defensive end [autotag]Zach Harrison[/autotag] will represent the Buckeyes in Mobile, Alabama. It should be a very prosperous week for the senior, as Harrison should test very well and has an impressive physique.

Even though Harrison knows where he will play his final snaps in college, he would still like to play in at least two more games before heading off to Alabama.
